Understanding Windows Update and Extras in Windows Vista

Read the tutorial above on how to change the way you receive updates.

Vista offers four different methods for how Windows Update updates your computer. Below, we explain each method and when this is the recommended setting.

Install updates automatically (recommended) - if you select this option, then all the critical updates will be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer. These updates will install at the time, you specify the fields to install new updates. This is the recommended option for the majority of people because it ensures that you have all the critical updates installed automatically on your computer.

Download updates but let me choose whether to install them - if you select this option, Vista will download the updates on your computer, but not install them automatically. If you want to install updates, then you must install them manually. You should only select this option if you have a reason to not install updates automatically. Only advanced users should use this option.

Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them - if you select this option, you'll be alerted when there are new updates available for download and install. You can then choose to download and install the updates that you want. This option should really be reserved for people who know exactly which updates they need, or those who have little access to the Internet.

Never search for updates (not recommended) - if you select this option, Vista never automatically checks updates. This option should never be selected as it puts your computer are likely to be affected, infected or hacked

When my computer tries to finally start up, it comes to a screen that says Windows Update section 3 of 3, 0% complete.  He is sitting here for a minute or two, then restarts.  This loop continues indefinitely.  Will not start in safe mode.  Used a boot disk to get into the Windows repair and got the result, did not find any problem.  How to cross this attempt to update?  I have Vista.

When you used the "Startup disk" was available as an option system restore? If so, then choose a restore point created before this issue started occurring.

If the system restore is not available, then you have 2 options:

    (1) try a "in-place upgrade", aka, repair installation. This can be done by running the system with the "Startup disk" and choose command prompt - How to perform a repair for Vista Installation

However, if Service Packs have been installed then you should uninstall everything first.

You will need to know where the Service Pack .exe file is to be able to uninstall the command prompt, because the system does not start properly, or Mode without failure.

  • Whenever I run Firefox, it starts to download a huge file that I don't want. How to stop this.

I had Firefox starts downloading a file yesterday and then changed my mind leave Firefox in the process. He asked if I wanted to cancel the download and I said yes. Now, whenever I run Firefox, it starts to download the same file 805 MB that I already have a copy from another source. I deleted everything I could find with Firefox or Mozilla in preferences and Caches as well as a few other places, but again, start Firefox and it starts downloading. Looked through the preferences of Firefox and see nothing that looks like it would fix this problem. It's Firefox OS x 35.0.1 10.10.1, in fact, it is the OS X ComboUpdate 10.10.2 it maintains keen to download, but it is already on my drive.

I would like to give your more information, but I'm in Safari, Firefox now because I don't want to waste resources to have this file to download it again. I don't have a line T1 entering my house. Sorry, but this issue should be responsible without any of this info.

    Hello

To find the right solution to your problem, we need a few more non-personal information on your part. Follow these steps:

    1. Use ONE of the following methods to open the Firefox troubleshooting information page:

      • Click the menu button

        click Help

        and select troubleshooting information.

      • Type of topic: support in the address bar of Firefox and press the Enter key.
    2. At the top of the troubleshooting information page that appears, you should see a button that says "copy the text to the Clipboard. Until it clicks.
    3. Now, go to your forum post, right click in the answer box and select Paste from the context menu (or click inside the response box and press Ctrl + V) to paste all of the information that you copied in the post on the forum.

If you would like more information on the troubleshooting information page, please read the article, use the troubleshooting information to help solve the problems of Firefox.

If you have the "see the last time windows" in place for the start of Firefox, it changes temporarily and close the download. Restart Firefox and this cache should disappear. If not, try an update of Firefox:Firefox Refresh - reset the settings and Add-ons and restore old data profile with this information: recovery of data from an old profile

  • I DON'T WANT TO UPDATE FROM 12. HOW CAN I UPDATE MY BROWSER YOU. I'M ABOUT TO REMOVE FIREFOX AND GO TO EXPLORE

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT MORE OBVIOUS. IN FIREFOX, I NOW I HAVE THE SPELLCHECKER. IN THE NEW FIREFOX I DON'T HAVE, I HAVE FAILED TO LOAD AND USE 'DICTIONARIES,"WITHOUT SPELL CHECKER THAT TAKE FORFUCKINGEVER FOR USE. I DON'T WANT THE LATEST VERSION. IF YOU DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY UPDATE MY BROWSER I'M GOING BACK TO EXPLORER.

Yes, this is probably caused by the presence of a checker spell attribute = false as I posted above and it is probably caused by the way that this editor is implemented and only a problem that makes the current Firefox exit remove the "check spelling" in the context menu.

In Firefox previous versions, you can always activate the spelling check in via the context menu, but it's is no longer possible with the deletion so that the point.

You get an item "Add dictionary" is rather a bug that will be fixed in a next version.

The current versions of Firefox hide spelling in the context of a text box menu if the web page disables the spell checking via a spellcheck = "false" attribute of this element.

You can click right in the area of the text editor and use "Inspect element" to see if this text box has a spell checker attribute = "false".

    See the SUMO forum thread:

You can create a bookmark (for example on the bookmarks toolbar) and set its location to the JavaScript code.

It's what we call a bookmarklet.

If you call the bookmark JavaScript code to run this then you should see an active check spelling from the context menu.

    javascript:void(document.activeElement.setAttribute('spellcheck','true'));

You probably need this version of the bookmarklet:

    javascript:void(document.activeElement.contentDocument.querySelector('*[spellcheck]').setAttribute('spellcheck','true'));

  • Wanted: White screen after 10 Windows Update - problem even when back in windows 8.1

    Hello

I've updated to windows 10 and after a few hours, the main screen of my laptop went blank but my second monitor that I use with a HDMI cable still works.

Here is a screenshot - one screen shows white and I'm typing this on screen 2 (continue below)

I've updated my drivers in Device Manager but problem persists, here's my profile for screens and link to full

    (continue below photo)

    Complete specifications

From my understanding the cables of the screen white screens LCD is still, this problem started after the update of Windows 10 so I'm reluctant to think it's that. My laptop is still under warranty but do not want to send in if he didn't need that I need for work.

I found some information online saying that a restore Image will not work, but I have an and you can try it if need be.

Other information found online says that my computer basically "forgot" that I have a main display to get out information in and make the screen and that's why my second screen works perfectly and me might be able to solve this problem with the start of the saving mode and try to fix it from there again I've never done this and don't want to cause more problems doing things like that.

What could be the best way to go forward with this problem is to say. :

    * Is there a way to check the LCD cables without disassembling the computer. (Don't want to do that, and don't think it's the fault)

    * System Restore will help

    * Where / who should I contact for help in this regard

Thanks for any help provided and please tell me if you need any other info to help. I really want to to fix the problem rather than take it to a guy or HP

It's a bad screen. The upgrade of Windows 10 timing is a coincidence. You can continue to use it as a desktop computer with an external monitor forever.

  • I don't want to download this update.

I have a list of the updates that are 'Important' to download, but I don't want to download KB968389 because it is a bad update, killed my laptop and I had to get it restored 2 times because of this. So when I stopped my laptop it will update my computer, but how can it help to install on my laptop?

Sorry for the second question. ^^

    Hello

See the method here 3 (and others as required)

First go to control panel - Windows Updates - change the settings - if the value of Let Me decide to
Download or install - APPLY / OK.

After you're done and save after reboot back to updates - run UPdater - then RIGHT CLIC on
that update and HIDE. Turn then to change the settings for automatic return.

I guess that part of the question could be a driver which is really old or similar should not be loaded.

  • Impossible to install the selected updates. Windows 7... DON'T want Windows 10

I have Windows 7 on my laptop (which is 5 years, cannot afford a new).

I don't want Windows 10... But it does not close on the upgrade and it's affecting my updates. I'm going to "Updates" and it says "upgrade to Windows 10" then the "Get started" button in the right corner. "

But what is frustrating so it won't let me update the selected updates.

Until Windows Update would tell me "an important update" and or "optional" update Then I would choose which clicking on the box. Well now, I go to updates and the stupid thing of 10 window, then "other updates show." I click on it and choose my updates and click on 'OK '.

That's the frustrating part. When I come back there is nothing that says... as it used to... "Install updates". I've tried everything. If the updates, I chose are just sitting there.

Today is May 13, 2016 and yesterday (12) when laptop computer closing it are there upgrades then... But... when I went to see if the updates, I chose were installed were not. On the contrary, he says this (I have updates in bold):

I don't want to see the software update on my phone all the time.  If I don't want to update the software, is there any way to disable these notifications?

    Hi akathyb,

  • I don't want this button to update

    Hello

I have an old iPhone 4S and an old Macbook for mid-2010.

I think that when your hardware is old, it is best to stop the update.

But the Appstore keeps prompting, and it is very very annoying.

Why Apple does not add a button: "I don't want this update?

"This kind of annoying things adds up on others as"iTunes can not connect"when I never asked to connect to iTunes."

I'm a former mac user. I wrote my thesis on a Mac in 1989. Unfortunately, the user experience has been deteriorating since the departure of Steve. There are now Iwatch which tells that your hart beat. But we had lost, what distinguishes Apple from others, the base fine tunings.

    What a pity.

See if you can click to hide the update > hide updates in the app store

  • I totally disable updates, so I stop doing a gazillion of pop-ups on an update, I don't want?

I am very happy with the version of Thunderbird that I use.

How can I totally disable updates, so I get a gazillion of pop-ups on an update, I don't want to stop me?

Tools > Options > advanced > Update tab

This is where the settings are about the updates.
    There are three options:
1 auto check and install updates
2 auto check but ask me if I want to install
    3. do not check

Looks like the second option is selected, it's check and asking with a command prompt. I also use this becaue I want to keep updated with corrections of bugs and security issues, but I want to update when I say and not when I'm in the middle of something important.

Thunderbird update will contain updates of security, bug fixes etc.
You should be aware that selection update may affect your security risk.

    Dear Sirs,

I don't want to update to IOS on my device. But the legacy continue to send me notifications 2 times a day. How to turn the notifications?

    Thank you.

Short answer, you can't. Your iPad will automatically download iOS updated when he is in charge, connected to WiFi, and there is enough free space. You can remove the package entirely downloaded iOS (parameter - storage... If I remember correctly), but it will re - download and start the nagging lets you install when the download is complete.
