Updates of 04/14/10 Windows messed adaptation files to external drives

After getting several updates on 14/04/10 to my Vista Business Edition at work, I can't copy external files to one of my hard drives. Simply, he's sitting there at 0% and does not copy. I tried to restart and insertion of 2 different USB usb keys and it will not copy anything. It is right here on the remaining term, saying that he is calculating... and on speed 0 bytes/sec copied. I'm waiting more than 1/2 and time two times and nothing happens them. Finally, I have compressed all files, I wanted to copy using Winrar and extract to USB and it worked, but I can not copy directly on my hard drive to my thumb drives. I don't have the idea than updates caused this.

Try to start in safe mode and check the status. You can copy without any problems?

Off-topic, try the free TeraCopy software and check the result.

Hello, I installed Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32-bit on a Dell Precision T3400 workstation, and I have also configured the strategies of groups for Non administrators. Basically, I disabled the removable drives, 'C' and had "only for non administrators." After edit in GP, the system has been precisely set and I am able to access the Administrators account and copy stuffs from my local drive on my USB key. But a few days later, I'm not able to use my USB or other external drives in Administrator account, it shows that 'inaccessible '. But I can't access local drives 'C' or '. Then I have to redo the group policies and it will last only for 3 days. Thanks :)

  • Windows Vista will not read external drives

I had an external hard drive connected to my computer earlier today. All of a sudden, my computer froze and started to make noises beeps, then I stopped and released my external drive.  Now, whenever I plug a drive it tells me that I have to reformat. However when I try to reformat the drive, he told me that the format could not be completed. It allows me to format NTFS, but that does nothing for me. I need to format in FAT or FAT32, but it won't let me. I even reformatted my drive to FAT32 from another computer, but when I plug in Vista it still says it needs to be formatted.  I got lost. How can I get Vista to re-read my external drives?

    Hi FAH300,

If you are not able to format the drive, there may be a hardware problem.

I suggest formatting the disk using the instructions linked by wb2001.

  • Windows Vista backup on the external drive stopped working

I have a LaCie 750 GB hard drive external (total size 698 GB) who I've been saving my drive C and D to a Dell XPS 410 using Vista Home Premium software.  He contended until the end with a backup automated on-demand for once a week.  He performed the backup 30 times since 11/09/09, but sometimes did so sometimes (shorter range) other than the weekly on-demand.  When I compare the total size with the free space on the external drive and my drives C and D, the amount of used space is respectively 131 GB, 5,11 GB and GB 665,5.  I am not very computer savvy, but if the backup program backs up only what of new each time, why used on my external drive space is so superior to what is still on my C and D drive?  I assumed that the backup software would just copy the previous backup, each time that a new backup or write on the oldest backup, but apparently is not.  So now all I get are messages saying that the backup was not successful because a file was in use or something to that effect.  I'm doing something wrong or do I have to reformat the hard drive external when it is "full" to start the backup of my computer again?

    Hello

Your assumption is correct. Cross check if a new backup is created and saved in the external hard drive. If a new backup is not too write the old backup, the use of the space will be very high.

Two particularly useful automatic backup features are the ability to do a scheduled backup and the ability to save your files.
We recommend that you cross check if backup settings are intact. To do this, try the following steps.
    1. open backup and restore by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.
    2. click on change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

You get the error message, unplug the external drive and restart the computer. Connect the hard drive and check if you get the error message.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello Gus,

Windows 7, having trouble finding external drives is not uncommon. I use Aomei Partition Wizard to get Windows to recognize the drive; Download here: http://download.cnet.com/AOMEI-Partition-Assistant-Standard-Edition/3000-18512_4-75118871.html?tag=mncol;1 .

Once installed simply click on the external drive, and then select Properties. Who should get the drive recognized by Windows. See if that solves the problem for you.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite A200-1DN - the update of the BIOS for Windows 7

I am running 32-bit Windows 7 on a Satellite A200 1DN. I had battery problems (plugged in, does not support) and I understand that I have to update my BIOS. However I can't find an update of the BIOS for Windows 7, only Vista and XP.

Can anyone help? I should update with the BIOS in Vista? Are there other options to fix this battery? I already tried an ATX reset and uninstall method battery Microsoft ACPI compatible controls.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Ian

Theoretically, you can install Windows Vista to update Bios and return Win 7, then. Before you do, try this:

Unplug the computer from the power adapter and turn it on. Let the computer battery power until the computer turns off
Remove the battery. Using a soft cloth, wipe the battery packs connectors and AC adapters.
Reinsert the battery and plug it into the power adapter

    > I tried an ATX reset and uninstall method battery Microsoft ACPI compatible controls.

also, have you had the same problem before installing Win 7?

  • Windows Update: failed. __Code 643 windows Update encountered an unknown error. _ * AND * __I cannot repair Windows 7 with the disc either. My guess is: these issues are related...? __

I have THREE questions which PEUVENT all be linked togther... What do you think?

[I am slot as Windows 7 Ultimate (free upgrade to Dell PC w/purchase) on a Dell 64 bit PC XPS435]
I've upgraded from Vista about 3 weeks ago.

#1 - Two weeks ago I had a problem with the installation of Nero/LiquidTV-TiVo to my PC... (this is also when the problem started).
To get the "Nero" thing figured out, I took the advice of someone on the Forum/Blog of Nero. The person has provided a lenghty explanation how to uninstall LiquidTV completely by removing the registry files... I don't really know what I'm doing in the registry, but everything that I helped my problem of Nero, but I couldn't tell you WHAT I deleted OR if I have deleted any bad subfolders or whatnot!... the next time I started my PC is when the NEW NUMBER is right.

#2 - On my next BOOT, Windows Update has found an IMPORTANT update:

A security update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x 64 systems (KB954430)

.. .and it fails every time, it tries to install saying this:

    Windows Update - failed

Code 643 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

"Get help with this error" provides little or no help... but it says this:
     "WindowsUpdate_00000643" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

All the research I did, the problem seems to be with Microsoft .NET Framework... .and all the solutions I found talking about it, "UNINSTALL all THE .NET FRAMEWORK & REINSTALL" ... I tried and there is no .NET Frameworks listed in Add/Remove, and when I press on ' VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES'... " on my PC it says, "no updates are installed on this computer"... what the _____?

#3 - Today, I thought I would just pop the WINDOWS 7 installation disc and do a repair/upgrade... It will not be upgraded.
He cycles most of the way through, then he Has STOPPED and says this:

The following problems prevent upgrade Windows. Cancel the upgrade, perform each task, (it lists only a SINGLE task), and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • Windows needs to be restarted if necessary to system files can be changed before you continue.

Does not help restart. He tried 3 times and he ends up doing the same thing.
Is it possible I deleted something out of the register so far here and which is cause of all this?
If so, is it possible to fix WITHOUT doing a new install of Windows 7?
OR... anything can be a problem... Please HELP!

(And please note: I am a first year student college with specialization in computer science... but I just started last semester, so I don't know what I should... yet. - though, I SHOULD have known better than to mess with the registry!) My bad).

Thanks a lot for your time in advance, and I look forward to hear from you!  VikeMike4

  • Tecra A8-185 - the update of the BIOS under Windows 7?

    Hi again,

I have a question how update of the BIOS under Windows 7 ultimate x 64. I downloaded the latest version of the BIOS for my laptop (Toshiba Tecra A8-185 PTA83E). After having unpacked there is only the .exe file.

When I try to run this file, he said, that my OS is not supported. When I run it in compatibility mode (with Vista or XP), it starts the upgrade, but gives me an error: "the BIOS upgrade is failure (8). BIOS is not able on this configuration. "What should I do? I really need a new BIOS.

Can I run it at the start of the USB key, or whatever?

    Hi offi55

Why do you need a new BIOS? You may notice some problems with the laptop or why are you trying to update?

However, I think that the update should only be done on the pre-installed Windows version (XP or Vista). I guess that this update n t tested and designed to update Windows 7 so I think that would be the reason why you can t.

So to install Windows from the Toshiba Recovery disk and try to update again. It should work.
