Updates Windows needed me check that Windows is genuine, but I don't have my product key.
Vista Premium check
A few years ago, I bought a second hand PC... It has been a real installation CD of Vista Home basic. However, the computer is running on a Vista Ultimate. Recently I installed the updates, but I needed to verify the copy of vista installed in the PC. It's sad to say, I don't have the product key for the ultimate, but I still have one for the Basic Home Edition. Please help me what to do. I don't know the difference between the basic and premium. Will I get off just my OS to Vista Home Basic?
In this case, even if the COA sticker is authentic, that's all that you have a license for
The sticker looks like one of those who here?

If Yes, then you can reformat and reinstall (after backup your data on external media) using the disc and key - and will end by (hopefully) with a legal basis Home installation.
You can verify the key before you try - in which case I suggest ringing your local activation center from the list below and ask them about it. They should be able to tell you the story of the activation of the key, and whether or not it is currently ranked as authentic.

(Tip - If you get an automatic response, leave blank unless there is an option to speak to an operator. It should oblige the operator to pick up)

I'm up, but its prompting me to activate again. Help, please! This has been a good laptop and will continue to be if I can get help with activation.
Original title: old Dell laptop broke down.
Hello
You can contact Dell and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks and to reinstall the operating system.
They should do this for a small fee.
If this method has not been destroyed by the last re - install, and if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.
The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)
Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.
With a Dell, you press F8 at startup and follow the instructions
http://www.Dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/KCS/KcsArticles/ArticleView?docid=266618
The methods above resettlement generally do not require allows you to provide a product key during Installation, the recovery process uses the Installation product key factory to activate automatically during the resettlement process.

OK, so I bought a laptop from a garage sale for like a goat. good good deal? No, I need a computer for my needs college and I couldn't get one. well AnyWho I try to put in work and it says hard drive failure. Well, I got this old vista ultimate cd with it but no product key. I can't even connect you to download programs or to make a diagnosis. It gives me the possibility to use the command prompt, which I am not good at or to do a reinstall of system image recovery of the system with a cd (ive got to work best) but I need to get a product key for it. and I really don't want to pay anything else because im really broken. If you can help, tha would be great.
It hardware failure of s then you should consider store tech. If you reinstall vista you will be able to use 3 months without product key

When corsair came out with their case of 350 d Obsidian decided to move my PC parts to fit the Micro ATX case. I kept the same RAM, CPU, PSU, GPU and my hard drives that contain Windows 7 PRO. Everything worked up to what a few minutes in the PC running. in my toolbar next to the Center, volume and network icons, there was a picture of key (such as the physical keys) by saying that I need to activate windows. I use this drive for almost more than a year and all of a sudden with new parts that I need to activate windows? the only thing I changed was the motherboard!
I have Microsoft office installed and when I open Office Word the program asked for activation. but all this time, I had to click on a button and activate it with the internet. Why the operating system does not require a product key to 'turn on' when I was using the same operating system for centuries?I don't have my product key and I want to know if I can "activate" windows without one.I see this when I try to activate. Then it says this"the only thing I changed was the motherboard!
It is the motherboard which gives a computer it's identity. Essentially, the card mother IS the computer.
The original installation was probably pre-installed and turn to the original BIOS to check that he was still the same. Now when he checks, he finds a different BIOS.
Under the terms of the OEM, the operating system cannot be transferred to another computer, which is what you did...
If your COA sticker is still legible, you can download a Windows 7 ISO and install it using the main code of the COA sticker.

Reset windows 8 and but did not get the correct product key.
Hi all.
I bought a used HP Pavilion desktop computer and decided that it would be better to reset factory settings before you start using it. Unfortunately, I made and then found I don't have the product key of Windows 8 for it, and no more than the seller. The reset process is to half-way through, but I'm not sure how to do this when I get to the part where it asks for the key. Nightmare!
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
See you soon
Andy
You should not be asked for a product key because you used the factory reset to reinstall Windows 8.
1. press the Windows key + X , and then clickrun, and then type: slui.exe 4
2. then press the ENTER"" key.
3. Select your "country" in the list.
4. choose the option "activate phone".
5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
6. explain your problem clearly to the support person.

I want to upgrade my computer to 10 Windows (I have windows 7 SP1) but it tells me that I need to activate my windows. I downloaded the legitcheck on the microsoft site and it ran and it says my Windows in real. I've never had a product key because my computer was purchased with Win7 (at Best Buy.) I don't know what to do.
To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the diagnostic report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to the desktop -http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )Once downloaded, run the tool.Click on the button continue, after a short time, continue button will change to a copy button.Click the copy button in the tool (ignore the error at this stage) and then paste (with r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your message. -

I want to re - install windows xp on my laptop but I don't have the resource cd. only I have the key to product label I can do?
also my frist question is that if I install this version (xp sp3) with my product key, it will be legal?
The downloaded file CANNOT BE USED TO INSTALL WINDOWS.
It is not a question of legal or non-legal. The file you download is not complete. The downloaded file will update an existing installation of Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Service Pack 3.
Right click on my computer, then select Properties. The screen say for your version of Windows, including Service Pack?
Re-installation of Windows may or may not be the right solution for your problems. I need a download site for windows 7 Home premium 32-bit, I have a product key
Try to upgrade to Windows 7 Home premium Vista SP2. Bought the upgrade of Office Depot, but do not have a cd to load just the product key.
You have purchased an Express upgrade. Windows 7 Anytime Upgrades are only intended to upgrade an existing edition of Windows 7 to a higher edition, example: Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional or ultimate edition.

When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.
If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:
Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate
Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate
Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition
Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.
