Updating ESX to vsphere 4 standard edition 3.5i

Hello

I have a few question.

(1) is it possible to upgrade ESX 3.5i to vmware vshpere 4 standard edition on a single box assuming the box of 64-bit supported?

(2) ESX 3.5i is a free version.   When we buy to the ESX 3.5i license?

(3) I have a friend who bought 3 x vsphee 4.0.  Currently, there is an 3.5i Deputy of the company. He installed another 2 x vsphere 4.0. This is again 2 x vspher 4.0 enabled successfully.   Can the ESX 3.5i you license too by using the vsphere 4.0? Y at - it an option to key in the serial number?

Pleae advise

You cannot upgrade to a full ESX ESXi.

But you can upgraded a free ESXi 3.5 to a licensed version of ESXi 4.0.

The license key is valid both for the full ESX and ESXi.

Can the ESX 3.5i you license too by using the vsphere 4.0?

Yes. Use the old license server (you can find 2.x download vcenter).

  • MPIO, ALUA and Vsphere Standard Edition

I'm having a hard time to give a sense of the differences in features between Vsphere standard Edition and enterprise Edition when it comes to storage.   In the comparison of the features he says that this standard does not support third-party plugins or MPIO.  But I know that at least, it supports MPIO basis because I have it running on one of my sites with ISCSI.    So I'm I wondered what exactly it does not support and more particularly wonder about MPIO on SAN FC who wants me to activate ALUA.

Take a look at VMware KB: frequently asked Questions for the vStorage API for integration of the table that describes the functions available with VAAI.

ALUA and the MPIO built-in will work regardless of the edition, you can simply use 3rd party software.

  • vSphere Enterprise license with vCenter 5 Standard edition 5

    Guys quick question

can I add a vSphere Enterprise 5 (or more) allowed a couple of new hosts (especially need FT and DRS) in conjunction with vSphere standard licenses already in service (and you want to keep) under a vCenter Standard edition 5?

    Thank you

I don't see a problem with running differently licensed hosts on one instance of vCenter server. Due to different features, you will need to place them in separate well groups. With respect to the vRAM, I understand how it vRAM is pooled by license type, then you will end up with two swimming pools.

    Hello

I couldn't understand how just after to the Foglight for virtualization forum, so I apologize for this post being in the wrong place.

I have the Foglight 7.0 Standard edition and I'm unable to see virtual machines on the hosts of a new vCenter Instance I added to Foglight.

Any ideas as to what could go wrong or what I would have been able to hurt?

Could someone please suggest with the necessary steps to proceed.

creation of user Linux, installation of the rpm, then installing the software...

any suggestion expertise is much appreciated...

    Thanks in advance

    Kind regards

Asking how to "get" oracle-RDBMS-server-12cR1-preinstall is not really logical. If you have a standard installation on the server to the latest version of Oracle Linux 6 update, all you have to do is:

    # yum install oracle-RDBMS-server-12cR1-preinstall

RPM requires the configuration of standard yum string (oracle public yum) and the core Oracle UEK. Yet once again, the package does not contain software, but triggers the installation of the software based on the yum dependency checking.

  • Migration of SQL Server Standard Edition Enterprise

    Dear team

We have a separate database VM VMware infrastructure, we have 3 database one for VC, second database for Update Manager and applies the SSO IE RSA. Database version installed is MSSQL 2012 Enterprise edition. Company now wants the same migrate to the Standard MSSQL2012 or MSSQL2014 standard edition.

I just want to confirm is possible to migrate our current SQL2012 Ent edition to the standard 2012 or 2014 standard edition.

If the standard version is compatible then how to migrate the same, need your urgent help on the same

    concerning

    Mr. VMware

Standard SQL 2012 Enterprise edition migration is not a supported scenario. Even from 2012 to 2014 enterprise SQL standard SQL is not supported.

Please have look at Microsoft link for more details on the supported upgrade paths and its versions below:

    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-in/library/ms143393.aspx

You can raise the rear of the SQL Enterprise 2012 data, uninstall SQL server and do fresh install of the SQL Standard 2012/2014 edition and import the data, it is a just solution.

  • License question: with the help of two "Standard Edition" licenses for > 8 vCPU by host

Hi, I've been reading place on it for a few hours and would like to get confirmation here.  I have

-a physical host: dual processor, 8 cores per processor

-multiple licenses VSphere 5.0 Standard edition

    -VCenter 5.0 Enterprise Edition

I want to distribute the VM with 12 vCPU and I expect to consume two licenses Standard Edition - one for each CPU, for a total of 12 vCPU.  When I try to do using VCenter I get error "virtual machine has 12 virtual processors, but the host only supports 8.»  "The number of virtual processors can be limited by the OS selected for the guest virtual computer or licensing for the host."

I think that it is a license restriction because on the same host, the VSphere evaluation has authorized the deployment of a 12 virtual machine using RHEL 6.3 vCPU.  I checked later vCPU on evaluation copy function and it was 32 channels for it proves that it is not a BONE or a physical problem.  I think I downloaded an evaluation of the 'norm' rather 'Enterprise', but I am not sure.

I read compare VMware vSphere editions and the 'Standard' column has CPU line: "CPU 1" and line vCPU: '8 - way '.  This makes me think that, for each new license, I should have a CPU with up to 8 cores.  that is by consuming two licenses, I use 2 CPU and up to 16 cores.

I also read the EULA VMware multi-core pricing and Licensing Policy , and he said:

Software licenses with six (6) cores per processor

It does not say "with hearts of six (6) software licenses by host '

    The following excerpt from the EULA is the only evidence that I could find to support the conclusion that for Standard Edition, the maximum number of vCPU for each host is 8 (regardless of the number of licenses consumed);
Combines VMware licenses on a single host software. Licensing policy allows combining the even on software licenses uniprocessor.

Someone can confirm the limitation and is there something obvious that I missed to compare VMware vSphere editions.  The difference between host and per processor is huge, I'm surprised that it is ambiguous.

    Thank you

    Diarmuid

Looking at this picture, it is said that you need 1 VMware Standard license per physical processor that your host has.  Down the chart to the vCPU, who said that a VM can have at most 8 vCPUs (for Standard).  Isn't 8 vCPUs per license, which is 8 vCPUs total.

The demo version is licensed Enterprise Plus and develops of vCPU 32 on a virtual machine.

  • Part of e-mail notifications of Standard edition?

I just started to evaluate the operations of vCenter and am happy to see email notifications are now included. 60-day trail is for the Enterprise edition, but if we buy anything it is likely to be the standard edition. What I'm trying to confirm, it's the e-mail feature is part of the Standard edition.

Looking at the comparison of product of VMware , it lists the "Proactive intelligent alerts" as in the standard, but I think that these are just alerts "badge" based in the console, not the e-mail notifications. The same matrix lists 'Alerts and reports' as being only in the Advanced edition, but I think it's done refers only to the ability to alert and report management.

What makes me think that alert standard e-mail is present in all versions, but can anyone confirm?

    Thank you

    Ed.

In fact, you have alert notifications in the standard as well.

    To enable them, you have:

    (1) connection in the administrative user interface and configure the SMTP server (to note that SSL/TLS encryption is not supported, although the options are there)

    2) date back to the vsphere-ui, and then open the "Notifications" menu and configure the actual alerts.

  • vSphere for SRM Edition work

Currently, we vSphere enterprise and are interested in the installation of SRM. We were told that he had to have Enterprise Plus for this to work. Does anyone have a definitive answer on this? There is a white paper out there that talks which versions are compatible?

Just have found the info in SRM compatibility charts:

SRM 4.0 and 4.0.1 are compatible with:

    • VMware vSphere 4 Standard, Advanced, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus editions

    • VMware Infrastructure 3 Enterprise, Foundation and Standard edition

  • Index Bitmap and MV in Standard edition

    Salvation of DBA

I have an enterprise edition 10.2.0.3 database which can be transformed into 11.2.0.3 EE. There many Materialized view with activated query rewrite. If I downgrade to the standard edition, what will be the impact? I know the rewrite of the query is a feature of EA and not SE and SEO. It is also the index Bitmap in the database which I think must be re-created as the normal b-tree index.

I know that bitmap is not a feautre of the SE. One advantage that I see that updates will be faster if there is a normal index as DML are slow, if there is a Bitmap index.

What will be the impact on the performance of the database if there is standard edition which does not rewrite of the query and the characteristics of Bitmap?

    Thank you

DBA is the hero behind the screen, while developers are heroes on the screen.

I went through this table before posting my first post. I don't know there are a lot of tables in my EE database that contains bitmap indexes. In the past, I turned on the control over some of them, and they have been used. Also, I have seen queries that are rewritten to use the MV table instead of the base of fact tables.

Yes. Really, I need to test in decommissioning and annexing the request to it. But I wanted to know if anyone has experienced this. What were their experiences do not use Bitmap indexes, function index and Query rewrite.

    Your response was very useful.

    Thank you.

The Oracle Server Standard edition supports function based indexes (I think since version 8.1.5). Bitmap indexes are not supported and treat B * index of tree as the index of the bitmap to bitmap join operations are also not supported. You can partially determine the impact of not having the second option by editing a hidden at the session level setting (obvious caveat on masked editing settings apply here):

    ALTER SESSION SET "_B_TREE_BITMAP_PLANS" = FALSE;

I'm fairly certain that the Standard Edition supports materialized views - automatic query simply not rewrite for possibly enjoy this feature based on cost.

There may be a few other surprises, here is part 1 of 4 that explores the potentially unexpected differences between Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition (the differences are version and OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLED load):
