Upgrade Mac Pro 2006 to 2008 by replacing the Logicboard

I'm trying to make the best use of a MacPro 2006 my home late and need a better CPU and PCI-E bus.

Someone has updated a MacPro 1.1 (2006) to a MacPro 3,1 (2008)?

From what I understand, the basic material is the same, except logical Board, sinks of heat installation of memory and CPU cards. Everything else, like the PSU cage, chassis and memory and the fans seem to be identical. Can anyone confirm this?

Thank you.

It will be cheaper and much easier to buy a used Mac Pro set and sell your existing one.

  • How to upgrade the graphics card (gtx 770 or 980) on Mac Pro 3.1 (2008)?

    Hey,.

I am looking to update my graphics card on my Mac Pro 3.1 - I currently have a GTX 660ti but I was looking to upgrade to a GTX 770 or, if possible GTX980.

    I have a few questions (GTX 770):

    • Power required: I found a tutorial , but I'm still not sure if the GTX 770 will draw too much power from the PSU?  The TDU is 230w and there are a lot of online chat on do not go above 225w.  I also noticed that my mac pro 3.1 is about 980w - so I'm confused as to why the limit of 225w has been mentioned (something to do with the power being driven by pci slots?)
    • Wiring: The gtx 770 has 1 x 6 pin and 1 x 8-pin connectors.  What/how should I connect to these terminals?  The tutorial mentions buying a Y 2 x 6-pin connector.  Is anyone able to confirm this?
    • Experience: Are confirmed cases of the GTX 770 works on a mac pro 3.1?

Finally - I wonder about a 770GTX since I.  What is the best card (for games) that confirmed cases of work with the 2008 3.1 mac pro?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

The location PCle supplies 75 watts max. Each of the two connectors on the system board each supply 75 watts max.

So, you can get 225 watts which for me is pretty close to 230 watts.

Others have successfully used the 770

  • PCI cards with USB 3.0 or eSATA for a Mac Pro 2006 (1,1)

    Hello, Apple people!

I got my hands on a Mac Pro 2006 earlier from a friend. I used it as a BESTIAL Server (seriously, this thing is not so much as breaking a sweat even when I throw it the more difficult task.) I love this machine) since I got it, and I think I want to do the updates. My plan so far is to get multiple mounting OWC to pick up the second drive Bay currently vacant DVD and install two 120 GB Samsung 850 EVO drives in RAID 0, while using the real HARD disk bays for a RAID 10 array (nested RAID: two RAID 1 arrays brought together in a RAID 0 array) of four 2 TB red WD drives and use two 250 GB hard drives currently in the machine in an external case in a matrix RAID 1 for backup. I'm pretty happy on this issue.

My question concerns what interface to use for external drives of 250 GB. I can use:

    • USB 2.0 currently on the machine
    • FireWire 800 currently on the machine
    • a PCIe USB 3.0 card
    • a PCIe card with eSATA

That we will get the faster speeds? I know that, theoretically, eSATA would get faster speeds (6 Gbps eSATA vs 5 Gbit/s USB 3.0 vs 800 Mbps, Firewire 800 vs 480 Mbps USB 2.0), however I know also (maybe?) that the Mac Pro I have only has grooves in v PCIe 1.1, with a (supposed) 250 MB/s maximum data transfer rate. would this bottleneck a PCIe USB 3.0 or eSATA card not worth?

Note: don't worry all "Mac compatibility" with PCIe cards (or the table RAID scheme I mentioned). I am running Ubuntu Server (64 bit) on the machine, and given that the Linux kernel supports much more conductive than Mac OS X, I probably don't need to look at all the other drivers. This issue is specific to the hardware capabilities of the Mac Pro.

Probably the most simple installation, you can do is to install the eSATA extender cable adapter.

  • Address book has exploded. Now iCloud does not recognize my Mac Pro, when you try to download the database fixed.

For the second time in a year, my 'Contacts' times of 500 entires to 20,000. One card has become 5 to 15 each. How? Why?

24 hours later, I have an address book * *.abbu backup file cleaned up and ready for download. My Mac Pro (Mac OS 10.7.5) uses address book version 6.1.3 (1091), "Enable this account" is checked in the preferences for access iCloud. When the box is unchecked, all contacts disappear.

iCloud does not see my Mac Pro as a device, but the Mac Pro did see the iCloud, and I looked on all my devices I deleted all contacts and groups and finally all address books were empty, and no duplicate is possible. Then, I loaded the back up on top of the mac Pro, iCloud on. The Mac Pro is good looks. But the (OS 9.3.2) iTouch and iPhone 5 (OS 9.3.3) does not download the fixed file 'Contacts' downloaded from the Mac Pro. The 'Contacts' database fixed or not download to the iCloud of Mac Pro, or is not readable on other devices. And the Mac Pro is not recognized as a device when connected to iCloud.com and looking devices, but the iTouch and iPhone.

I spent 24 hours in a row trying to solve this problem. I have run out of time and patience. And I can't find an answer to this anywhere!

    Help, please.

    Please, I beg you.

If the Time Capsule and MacBook Pros are not on the same network, the MacBook is not backup in the time Capsule. You probably see what snapshots leaving MacBook on the local disk, until the two are reconnected. If you don't want that to happen, disable Time Machine on a different network.

  • Ask for help upgrade (Mac Pro early 2009 2x2.6 GHz Quad-Core)

I am a videographer who has need to bring my Mac Pro from the dead. Cheesy with video files, but not parts of. My reading so far led me to look at in what follows. I'm looking for a better understanding of each of the following items and upgrades are beneficial and worth that may be too kill for a round of aging.

    1. Memory. I currently have 4x2gb or total of 8 GB of ram. I know this is ridiculous, I have not increased by at least 16 GB so far. However, I have read that memory can only help so much and that some of the items here are actual speed thrusters. How much memory is recommended for this configuration? Should I buy? http://www.Amazon.com/16GB-DDR3-1066-PC3-8500-1066Mhz-Apple/DP/B0098MLFJG/
    2. Solid State Drives. I currently have 3 disks internal thatrange of 500 GB to 2 TB. If I used that as my boot drive, where is the best place to install (see photo below)? I read of people installing in a Bay SATA HDD or SATA optical drive unused. I read good things about it. http://www.Amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-I...p/B00OBRE5UE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?IE=U TF8
    3. Video/graphics card. First of all, both mean the same thing? Are the belowonly of slots PCI Express 4 for this type of card? Also, can you have two installed? I have the NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB series. What is the best way to upgrade? My research so far has led me to the GeForce GTX680. Looks like I'll have to buy it was good. T7ZS http://www.Amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-DisplayPort-Graphics-02G-P4-3682-KR/DP/B00C81
    4. Processor upgrade. I'm intimidated by it due to intensive installation and prices. What would be the next best bet - upgrade to 12-core? Where to buy?
    5. Firmware? I've seen videos and forums on (4.1 - I) (5.1) or (6.1). I don't really understand what that means. Should I be concerned?

    Thank you!

-The bus SATA on the Mac Pro is only SATA II (3 GB/s) and connected to the bus SAT SSD is therefore limited to speed SATA II, not the speed of current SATA III (6 Gbps) drives.

-You can get cards PCle who accept the standard SATA SSD and who can get speeds of SATA III

-You can install several graphics cards. I have my 2009 MP, I have the original GT120 in slot 2 and a 5770 PC card into slot 1 (slot width double only).

A graphics for PC cards will not display anything while booting, as well as an installed PC card can be used for the Startup Option or special start-up as recovery mode.

  • Mac Pro 2006 - 2007 update

I have improved the original core dual processors in my Mac Pro (1,1) 2006 with quad core Xenon 5355 processors. "About this Mac" shows as unknown processors, but acknowledges there are two, with a total of 8 cores. I have downloaded and run the firmware utility; However, the gray bar of the screen and progress only briefly illuminate. Then, the drafts of the screen and the computer starts. The firmware version is still listed as 1.1 vs 2.1, and processors are unknown. I would appreciate any suggestion that this tool has apparently worked for others. Thank you.

  • Mac Pro 2006 update

    Hello!!

I need to find answers... Have the head to point to operate!

I realized a Mac Pro in 2006, with 32 GB with a 8800 GT for what I want to install some x 5365 processors who bought, have some videos to see where the process to have him upgrade * Yosemite or the * Capitan.

But I have another one who is to come up with a former Nvidia 7300 efi and processors equal two, same RAM...

    The question is:

Can I update the EFI firmware for Mac Pro works with the x 5365, 32 GB of ram and the old Nvidia 7300 with an older operating system how Lion or leopard? Or I have to blink to the graphics card or anything for it to work?

Any explanation would be very good for me! Already, I'm a little confusedt...

    Much thanks!

To upgrade the processor on a model 2006 to double processors with four cores, the firmware for Mac Pro 2.1 must be installed. You can not do this for profit, but if you do it for your own pleasure, no one will come after you. Watch on netkas.org for instructions.

    --------

Do not move mac OS X through each version, except that 10.6.8 includes the Mac App Store, which is the key for all FUTURE versions. There are versions of Mac OS X up to 10.6.3 on DVD. This can be improved using software update to 10.6.8 which adds the Mac App Store. All other upgrades use downloads on the Mac app store in a certain way to get the software, which will be linked to your Apple ID.

    --------

The original Mac Pro 1.1 and 2.1 of 2006 and 2007 were 32-bit firmware, which supports up to Mac OS X 10.7 without modification. Later, Mac OS X may be supported if you want to bad enough by adding a few hacks and firmware for 64-bit installation that runs to the backend using the 32-bit firmware as a base. It works for these old Macs (not for third party material), and each version of Mac OS X you want install requires re - apply some hacks so he can begin.

Still, he is an amateur approach interesting, that you can use for your own pleasure. It is not supported by all, and if you encounter a problem, you can debug. Fans of report that it is fairly stable.

Search for sfott (64 32) for a blog with the discussion of this approach.

  • With the help of a big screen on mac pro 2006

I have a 2006 (original) mac pro with 3 GB of ram and nvidia 7300gt graphics card. I use it for design on photoshop and illustrator. However, its screen 20 '' (aluminum Apple Cinema Display) is not big enough to see everything in one piece. "

I plan to get a larger screen (27 "or 34"), but Im worried if my gpu can handle them.

Should I expect somehow a better gpu? Or can I find and buy cinema display of 34 "this time? Both are very hard to find.

There are recommendations that you could do?

    Thank you.

The size of the screen diagonal is not relevant.

Your current graphics card can support a screen up to 2560 x 1600 pixels on its dual-Link DVI port and an additional display up to 1920 x 1200 pixels on its DVI port to single bond.

  • Upgrade Mac Pro 3.1 2016

    Hello

y at - it a favorable upgrade I can give my Mac Pro 3.1?

so far I've always been running OS X 10.5.8

I had to install 10.7 on a pny cs1111 ssd that I need to fix my old system, which worked.

I had problems with upgrade of equipment due to software that I wasn't ready to upgrade, because it worked very well (which was not supposed to change).

I read through many threads, but could not yet conclude what options to take advantage of, for the upgrade of my Mac Pro.

SSD are safe to use now? Fact sorting am function work.

Another question, I upgrade, I use a yamaha 01 x, which seems to run 32-bit. Found the button hold 3 and 2 the solutions for this, which is very good for me, rather than invest in getting even an equivalent sound device.

Logic Pro seems to be evolving all the way, I'm still working on OS X 10.7, which I am trying to use because of the TRIM function I need to run the DSS, as far as I figured out.

I read also on the most recent raid card technology that might just make my i / o really fast, but then again I live in Germany and I can't seem to find the mini das extension cable here in stores, to actually connect it right.

I read most of the threads upgrade, do not give conclusion, if the upgrade actually working stable for more long, which is my goal.

I want my Mac to become more course (trying to find the best bad solution too) and more fast.

BTW. I have especially aktually work with Adobe cs products and Logic Pro.

I hope that it is still logical. And I'll answer any question that might help my quest, in case I forgot to mention the necessary details.

Maybe there are threads, I missed, so please post a link if you know. Most of them were who says now. I would get a solution from 2016, if the whole thing is.

  • Upgrade Mac Pro 12 5.1 GPU core

    Hello

I do most of my work in AE CS6 and CC, video edit in PP and use C4D. I want to upgrade my GPU and can't seem to find the right info. Should I use a 680 GTX or a Sapphire HD AMD 7950? I do not use Ray-Tracing in AE. I'm looking for a fluid workflow with a better overview and hoping for the best render time. I enjoy the CUDA or invest in an AMD? So much info out there. Thanks a lot for your help.

    SSD for cache

Work on an SSD through my PCI Express eSATA 6 G

Download the Nvidia card as Cuda surpasses open right now CL with Adobe. AE will not use the GPU accept with Ray Tracer and has NVIDIA. Creating will use the GPU and Cuda is what you want to do this right now. I also suggest looking at Octane of C4D index, since it is the GPU for C4D render engine.

This is a serious question, as my competitors have a huge advantage technology on me as the problem persists.

Apple does not level the old computers. You can only buy a newer model if the model you have is no more meet your needs. Depending on the particular model of Mac Pro, you have, it may be possible that others have improved the processors. You can find this article on Google. Then, you can always replace the GPU with a newer version that is compatible. But these are things that you would do, not Apple.

    Hello

I recently bought a Mac Pro and I am trying to transfer files from my hard drive mini 1 TB of G technology itself. The files came from a backup who was recently transferred to my 2011 macbook pro. I tried using cord USB 3.0 for the Mac Pro doesn't have a firewire plugs, but it does not recognize my hard drive. The hard drive is not showing any signs of work because I don't hear the fans turn on the player. The hard drive connects perfectly to my macbook pro via firewire, so should I buy a bolt of lightning for this firewire adapter? I really hope that I don't need to buy a new external, but I'd love to hear a few options for this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.
