  ASM Upgrade method:
  ==================

  We can use DBUA, it is one of the best method to upgrade.

  1. Firstly check the number of instances of database use ASM as storage option.

  2. stop all instances of database

  3. first Oracle CSS needs to upgrade.
  a. connect as root and run
  #bash: $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig reset
  Note: ORACLE_HOME is your new home of ASM.

  Note: Install the new home of Oracle 11 g ASM (in a different directory)

  4 start the ASM Instance-> Connect as a user of the Oracle's BONE

  5. take another graphical session together all environment variables
  a. ORACLE_HOME
  b. PATH of
  C. ORACLE_SID

  -> This will point to New Oracle ASM Home
  6. run DBUA
  #bash: $ORACLE_HOME/bin/DBUA

  7 DBUA will display two options:

  a. upgrade the database
  b. upgrade of the ASM

  8. Select "Upgrade ASM" - > it will update automatically.

  9. start of databases using ASM as a storage option.

  Note: databases will not be affected by the upgrade of the DSO, databases will remain in the original version.

  The configuration is:
  HP Itanium
  Grid/ASM 11.2.0.2
  RDBMS 10.2.0.4
  
  I have a 4 TB database. Application needs three test cases.
  Each test should use the same sets of data. So I asked me to copy the database from 4 TB to a different diskgroup on the same instance of the DSO.
  Start the database using the just copied the controlfiles/datafiles/redologs.
  Then application would run a few tests.
  Then I should delete the copy of the database and repeat the steps to create a new copy of the original database of 4 TB.
  
  I need to find an efficient way to copy the database from 4 TB to the new on the same asm diskgroup.
  
  I can't use the flashback database option.
  The database of 4 TB can be closed during the copy.
  The storage is fast
  
  My idea is to copy data/controlfiles/redolog files using the cp asmcmd command and then rename files from data/redologs.
  
  I don't know if the current copy of running in parallel is better then copy files one by one.
  I could also use backup rman as copy, but I guess that the result would be no different in terms of deadlines.

  The best option is to use RMAN to perform this work.

  Philippe Florent showed how to do this without using the backup image database on the file system... I upgraded to customers who use the ASM.

  What is the process for the improvement of the 11.1.1.7 to the current version of 12 c? We will not do a full inplace upgrade. We have new hardware for the 12 c application layer, but will use the same database. Our database is multiple to and do not miss having to deal with all the data duplication and dealing with the deltas.

  Hi all

  We're performing an upgrade of the application that requires us to perform a lot of scripts on our server Oracle EE 11.2.0.4.

  This specific database has around a website based end and a front end based client, but it is also accessible on the network through TNS SQLPLUS/Toad, ODBC, JDBC etc.

  For obvious reasons, the upgrade, I want to make sure that no one else that the DBA can access the database. Usually change us the listening port of 1521 to let say 1544. This prevents all access.

  But now we run in a physical Data Guard with two Standby configuration so I don't really want to play with the listener ports. The upgrade must propagate changes from primary to Standby. I could interrupt them temporarily, but I would like to avoid that if possible.

  Another way I thought would work was to stop the database and open it in restricted mode. But before that, I would need to grant the privilege of the Session to RESTRICT all users upgrade scripts using (around 5 users).

  This approach using the restricted mode seems reasonable?

  Other opinions would be much appreciated.

  This is exactly what restricted session is for. You can do online and then kill a session is currently connected. No need to stop:

  Please read the documentation of the requirement for Oracle APEX 5. Ensure that your environment meets these requirements. Upgrade your oracle database or other software if necessary components and then you can go right 4.1/4.2 to 5.0 update according to the above-discussed upgrade strategies in the above discussions.

  During the preparation of the documentation for upgrade, we observed that FORCE_LOGGING is disabled for the production databases and observed, there are objects along 350 + with journaling = No. and logging = NULL and patterns are SYS, SYSMAN, APEX_030200, OLAPSYS, XDB, SYSTEM, OIMDBUSER, MDSYS, EXFSYS, WMSYS, ORDDATA, PERFSTAT.

  My query:

  I can still proceed with the upgrade still under the document indicated for "upgrading a database with a physical Standby database in place" without you connect the data dictionary objects will be not be updated pending database.

  Can you please let me know your suggestions on this please?
