Upgrade to ESXi 5.0 to 5.1 without upgrading vCenter?

Hi everyone is my first post here.

I wonder if I can pass my single host of 5.0 to 5.1 without upgrading vCenter? Basically, what I want to do is upgrade to 5.1 so I can install Windows Server 2012 and trial it. Can I just burn the ISO, boot, the upgrade and the contiune. I've updated the customer to 5.1 already.

P.S. I read a ton of info on updates etc etc, but I just need the answer to this question.

Thanks much for any help you can provide.

Karl

To add. I tested the upgrade process by installing ESXi 5 in a virtual machine and upgrade to 5.1, it worked. I'm just afraid to do it in my live set up.

According to the matrix of the interoperability of products VMware, you cannot host with vCenter 5.0 5.1 ESXi, had you first upgrade the vCenter server. Another option is to upgrade your host to ESXi 5.0 Update 1, which also supports Windows 2012 as a guest operating system.

  • ESXi host running 6 VCSA disconnected from the vCenter

    Hi guys,.

I have a weird problem with my vCenter build 6. Single cluster of ESXi hosts. Running VCSA 6.0 and 6.0 ESXI. Making a storage of the vCenter vMotion initially got stuck at 77% and the ESXi host running the disconnected from vCenter vCenter. But I can connect directly to the ESXi host with vsphere client and see the vCenter VM works perfectly well. If I try to manually connect host ESXi and vCenter, I get the error "Failed to contact the host specified") both are in the same subnet and VLAN. I can migrate to other virtual machines without problem. I even restarted the host and yet I am not able to connect to vCenter. The host connects to vCenter if I reboot vCenter, but after a few minutes, disconnects again (even if no task does run on this topic.) I have no HA or DRS enabled at this point that I build this new environment and only presented a single LUN as a store of test data to the cluster.

    Any ideas?

OK, I think I fixed that or have at least a work around. So the underlying question was hiding ID mode/CPU EVC. I'm under the cluster to a level of EVC to reduce until I have migrate workloads from old environment and I think that this created a problem for the unit vCenter. To resolve this problem, I turned off the unit, directly connected to the ESXi host that had the camera running, edited the virtual machine and reset the masking of CPUID. Also, I've hidden the flag NX/XD of the guest. It's temporary (I hope) as once I increase the EVC to the Haswell, I will expose the NX/XD comments and test. For the moment, it is of the workaround I did. It may be of some use to someone.

  • How upgrade Vcenter virtual HW 9 on ESX 5.1 x

    Hello!

As the Web Interface is not available without a vcenter, I created a virtual machine with a material of V8 (the highest available through the VSphere client) where I installed the VCenter server. Now, I wonder how the HW to v9... If I stop the Vcenter, the web interface is no longer available and it took to upgrade to v9.

There is a "Calendar VM Compatibility Upgrade" option in the Web Interface, you can choose to do the upgrade on the next reboot of the system, but it has the Vcenter server to be available? She would work on the vcenter Server?

Any idea on how to solve this problem?

    Concerning

With the update pack 1 (I think), upgrade material is available in the virtual Center

    The upgrade is performed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but you should be able to install vCenter 5.0 Update 2 installation image.

I'm still not sure that understand your problem with Update Manager. Update Manager does not update vCenter Server support, this must be done manually.

  • Problem upgrade vCenter 5.0 to 5.1

I did an update 5.1 on a virtual machine running Vcenter 5.0. The SQL 2008 database resides on another virtual machine. It is a center of test data.

I ran the auditor and it came back fine. VCenter and SSO installed on the same virtual machine.

I installed base SSO. I ran the scripts before you create the database, and users. Installation went well without error.

I've updated the Web Client, but did not check to see if my domain account still works as an administrator.

I have improved the service of inventory without error.

    I upgraded Vcenter without errors.

I have improved my VI Client to 5.1.

I can not access the VI Client with Vcenter. I get an authentication error using my domain account. I tried the admin@System-Domain account. It is said that account is not allowed.

I can connect via the Web client using the admin@System-Domain account. I can't connect in the Web Client with my domain account.

While in the Web Client, she said that the inventory is empty. I don't see any of my hosts or VMs in my test data center.

  • After upgrading vCenter 5.0 to 5.1 found stored procedure 'purge_stat1_proc '.

    Hi all.

After upgrading vCenter 5.0 to 5.1 found this error in MS SQL 2008 R2 during the performance of work ""past day stats rollup ": "

    Message
Executed as user: xx\yyyy. Stored procedure 'purge_stat1_proc' not found. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 2812).  The step failed.
and http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & externalId = 2006097 there is no stored procedure in vCenter 5.1 purge_stat1_proc installation but job day cumulative stats exist...
Also there is not a SQL script for this procedure in the vCenter Server installation folder in C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\sql.
Anyone have a suggestion? Maybe it's a bug?

The answer lies in the same article that you are looking to:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/documentLinkInt.do?micrositeID=&popup=true&LanguageID=&externalID=2033096

The script of vCenter 5.1 to create this task (job_schedule1_mssql.sql) is supposed to create a job with a single step.  It seems that they have decided to remove the purge step and the rest of the procedure for her, but for some reason, that the work is not always updated and the stage of the procedure call (now missing).

You can fix it by running the script job_schedule1_mssql.sql by the instructions in the article.

  • Upgrading vCenter 4.0 32-bit to 64-bit vCenter 4.1

    Everyone...

Upgrading vCenter vCenter 4.1 to 4.0u1. The current server running vCenter 4.0 u1 is just a Windows 2003 based VM.

Databases supporting vCenter and Update Manager is installed on a physical Server SP3 to SQL 2005 64-bit.

I want to plan and to implement the upgrade as follows:

Remove the current vCenter domain and turned off.

Turn on a new virtual machine running Windows 2008 64 bit and rename it as the old server vCenter.

Add the new vCenter server to the domain

Installing vCenter 4.1 on the new vCenter server and use the existing databases that support

    the old server vCenter.

Use the Update Manager to upgrade vSphere 4.1 on each managed host computers.

What possible questions could meet or must be aware, as I implement this

    upgrade process?

During the installation process and it asks to use an existing database, will be installing

just updated the database to process and store the configuration data of the server vCenter 4.0?

Once the upgrade is complete for the new vCenter server.  I see the same configuration

as I saw in the old server vCenter configuration?

Looking forward to all the world the answers... Thanks in advance!

I agree with Redbaron51.  I used the setting level guide and things worked perfectly.  There is a batch file that backs up the database and converts it to the new 64-bit server.  It was very easy and worked as advertised.

  • Update the host ESX 4.1 before upgrading vCenter 4.0 to 4.1

Someone sees a problem updating my 4.1 ESX hosts and leaving in the former vCenter 4 Update 1 cluster?  I have rebuilt a new server vCenter 4.1 but can't stop the virtual machines and ESX hosts in maintenance until tomorrow night mode.  I want to put the ESX host in maintenance mode, both in the old server vCenter and 4.1 update and move remove/add new vCenter tomorrow night.

You can't manage a host ESXi4.1 with nothing less than vCenter4.1.  If your plan will not work.  You must first upgrade vCenter.

  • How to run Windows Upgrade VCenter with little or no problem at all?

    Hello

I have 24 x Servers VMware ESXi 5.1 update 1 on HP Blade servers managed by my VCenter VMware Windows virtual machine that is currently in version vCenter Server 5.1 patch 1 (build 1064983 2013-04-25) as follows:

    Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Standard - 1 x vCPU & 10 GB vRAM

    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard Edition (64-bit) (SP2) - 10.0.4000.0

My question is which of the Sub VCenter upgrade version is less stressful or no problem at all:

VMware vCenter Server 5.1 Update 3 has and modules

VMware vCenter Server 5.5 updated 2nd and modules

Note: Since the VCenter and DB SQL are in one place, I model clonedto the exsiting running VCenter server for roll simple return by deploying model when you connect directly to ESXi where the model is running.

    Thanks in advance.

Given that the process of updating U3 5.1 or 5.5 U2 is as the same, I strictly recommend you upgrade to version 5.5, in this way, you don't need to upgrade your vCenter again if you decide to upgrade your guests the time later.

  • Cannot verify the compliance of the profile on ESX 4.1 after 5 upgrade vCenter.

We recently upgraded to version 5.0.0 623373 vCenter.  Since the upgrade, I am unable to verify compliance on my host profile that applies to my hosts ESX 4.1 U1.  This profile of the host worked fine before the upgrade to vCenter.

When I check the conformity, the result is:

    Chess against host profile

Host is not available for verification of compliance.

I installed ESXi 5 on a new host and managed to create a new profile from it, apply it and check the line very well.  (I did not apply this profile to a host ESX 4.1)

    Any ideas?

Create the profile of some hosts (maybe 4.1 or 5) version.

Attach this profile (profile management) to all guests, where you had compliance check failure.

If you have vCenter upgrade from 4.1 to 5 then profiles are not "compatible".

  • Upgrade vCenter 4.1-5

    Guy

Need your advice.  We are running vCenter 4.1 in Windows 2008 application and database servers ESXi 4.1.  Everyone sings vCenter 4.1 upgrade to 50? How was it? I thought they were to build a new vCenter Server 5.0 from scratch and then move my datacenter to a host at the same time, since I'm pretty host available to move the computer virtual to another host without any downtime, the only challenge I run in because we lack of Nexus 1000v switches...

thoughts on what should be my best approach?

  • What to prepare before upgrading VCenter 4.0 to 4.1?

    Hello world

Do I need to save or prepare before moving my ESXi 4.0 to 4.1?

I have SQL Server 2008 SP1 as the database for the version of VCenter 4.0 now.

    Hello

If you upgrade the instance of vCenter Server on the same server, you must create a DSN, 64-bit as vCenter 4.0 uses a 32 - bit DSN.

Don't forget to make a backup of the vCenter database before the upgrade process.
