USB hard drive not recognized in rescue and recovery

After having successfully copied all my backups on an external hard drive, now that I have restored my T61 to its factory condition, rescue and recovery refuses to overprinting of the reader. I have made sure it is connected before turning on my laptop, and I also tried to connect only once I'm inside R & R, but nothing makes no difference. I'm desperate to seize my old files so I can continue to work, any help would be really appreciated. Thank you! Sarah

Me again: by the way, I forgot to mention that my resettled version of Vista is quite happy to recognize the external hard drive - as R & R before I started the restoration process... Sarah

  • Re: Toshiba Store Art Exteranal 320 HARD drive not recognized

    Hello

I have a problem with my 320 GB Toshiba Store Art HDD Exteranal.
I bought it a week ago and everything worked well on different systems: Win 7 (64), Vista (32), XP Pro.
But today when I tried to use it it displays a message that * unrecognized device * and it cannot install the driver for this device.

Unfortunately there are no drivers to download for this device drivers Toshiba page.
I checked it on Win 7 (64) and Vista (32) - same problem.
I remember, the last time that I used it was on XP Pro.

I checked the internet for a solution, but in the end I had to write a message here.

    Hope for more help.

If the HARD drive worked perfectly in the past without the use of drivers, then I guess that this has nothing to do with a missing driver.

In your case I would recommend to check and test the HARD disk on another computer/laptop running a Win XP or Vista.

If the drive HARD wouldn't connect and would not be functioning with the help of other computers, then a hardware problem is possible

I have a hitachi lifestudio external hard drive and it works great 50% of the time... the other 50%, I fight because it not being recognized on my computer or laptop (both vista).  I plugged it to my computer now and it will only recognize the player but is not the one with my files that I need.  I have two USB cords connected and it was working fine yesterday!  Now all of a sudden it won't work at all.  I got and rehooked many times now and still nothing.  Other USB ports are filled with our wireless mouse and others.  Is there a way to force vista to recognize something?

    Hello

    ·          Were there any changes made to your computer before this problem?

Step 1: Try running Microsoft fix it in the following article:

    Reference: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems

    See also: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Tips-for-solving-problems-with-USB-devices

Step 2: Check if the external drive is getting detected in disk management.

If the hard drive is recognized in disk management and if there is no letter assigned drive, I suggest you make a right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check to see if it helps:

    Hi trinitario,.

Because the hard drive is not detected in the BIOS also, it may be due to a hard drive configuration that should be changed or a rider. If you need to get in touch with a Local tech-store for assistance.

Note: change in the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • External Toshiba HARD drive not recognized on USB 2.0 ports, but only on USB 3.0

    Hello

I have a Toshiba drive external HARD 750 GB USB2.0/USB3.0
Now, this HARD drive is not recognized on USB 2.0 ports from my laptop (same thing on my desktop computer) but only on the USB 3.0 port.

I have try on port USB2.0 computers different (desktop, laptop) but it doesn't work. The LED is the lightning, but the drive does not appear in the file Explorer.

    You have any ideas?

    Thank you

    > Now this HARD drive is not recognized on USB 2.0 ports from my laptop (same thing on my desktop computer) but only on the USB 3.0 port

USB 3.0 port 900mA feeds. The USB 2.0 port common provides 500mA.
I think that the HARD drive needs more 500mA power in order to work properly.

So if you want to use the HARD drive on USB 2.0 ports, I recommend you to use a USB Y cable which allows to connect the HARD drive to two USB 2.0 ports

Have you loaded the proper drivers, firmware or software for the external drive and your version of Vista?  He can't just plug-and-play, especially if this isn't original USB key but a convert.

Once it is recognized by the system (if it is compatible and once the drivers are installed), go to start / Control Panel / administrative tools / computer management / management of records and right click on the external drive that shows there or format to change the drive letter or a similar task.

  • WD external hard drive not recognized

I have a Western Digital MyBook external hard drives.  I bring it with me to different places and one day when I got home I plugged it in my PC and nothing happened.  The HD is no longer recognized.

I checked the Device Manager and it does not appear there or it appears in the list of devices for the assignment of drive letters so is not the problem.  While he was just USB I could see that the computer has been grateful something was plugged to the USB port, but that's all.  I removed the HD from its holster and hung in to my computer and always directly nothing if it is not a cable problem or power.

I went to the site of WD and tried their repair program, but wasn't able to only detect the drive either so no luck there.

I also tried to remove the UpperLimit registry or whatever it's called but there no LowerLimit registry to remove.  I've restarted and nothing changed.

I'm really of ideas here, and at this point, I want to at least be able to use it again even if it means a complete reformat even if I got a lot of things about what I lose enough.

You say that is not recognized by your computer.

And their repair program cannot be found.

Have you tried to plug it into another computer and see if it is approved by it?

If it isn't, it is probably the player that has the problem.

    See you soon.

  • External hard drives not recognized / work in Windows 7

I see that many people have problems with Windows 7 does not recognise external drives. Have you tried the troubleshooting steps?

Step 1: Try to run Automated Troubleshooting Services and check out what he has to say.

    c. check if the external drive is listed.

  • IDE hard drive not recognized in bios Vostro 200

My friend gave me his Vostro 200 when she bought a new computer. I took the 130 GB drive HARD from my old computer and installed with a mini vertical bridge Sabrent SBT-SCIDE and a Molex to SATA power adapter. When I booted the computer and check the Bios, it does not appear. I checked the connections, and they agree, then I hung up in the old computer to ensure that it still worked. No problems in the old computer and no errors when I ran the disk check. Re-installed in the Vostro, but still not recognized.

Did I miss something as controllers or orders at the entrance?

For any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated... ed

Most of the time these IDE SATA bridges do not work - you may need to try several of them until you find one that does - assuming one will indeed work.  The only reliable method to fix an old IDE drive to a new SATA system is to mount the drive in an external USB box.

  • My seagate backup more external hard drive not recognized after system restore

I have a small sony vaio netbook running windows 7 starter edition. I did a system restore recently - saved on an external hard drive usb, nine 1 to seagate backup more - now after fighting with 124 updates hard disk is not recognized. Seagate has say the drivers are pre installed in windows. convenience stores never work - I find the trouble shooters are almost always useless - is this just me?

It works on my laptop of friends - so im guessing it is the operating system reinstalled - what I do?

    Hello Neil,.

First of all, we apologize for the late response.

    1. What happens, do not install the updates?
    2. What is the complete error message you get, when the update installs?
    3. What is the update kb article number?

for problems with windows updates, run the tool in troubleshooting Windows Update:
Open the Windows Update troubleshooting tool

For the problem with the external hard drive
Code 28 shows, the drivers for this device are not installed.

Error codes in the Device Manager in Windows

Log in as administrator and then try to install the drivers

  • Tecra M9-185 - 750 GB HARD drive not recognized

    I have Tecra M9-185 (PTM91E-0G4045G3) with BIOS Version 1.90 dated the 29.02.2008.
It came with HARD drive of 160 GB, which is quite old and needs replacement. I want to upgrade the HARD drive. I tried to use the 750 GB HARD drive, but it was not recognized by the BIOS.

Is it possible to upgrade the HARD disk? Is there a limit to the ability of the new HARD disk that can be installed?

    Hello

Of course, the HARD drive can be upgraded.
The laptop supports the SATA controller. The SATA controller is not limited to a special HARD drive size of my knowledge. 750Go should be supported too. But it might be possible that the BIOS is not able to manage these dimensions.
Try a different SATA HDD with the smaller size.

But question: why you n t choose an SSD (250 GB)?
I have improved my Tecra A10 with a 250 GB SSD and the performance gain is amazing. The machine is running much faster and quieter
