Use GREP to style a legend

I have several legends in style and I realized how the style of some parts of the cation automatically, but others are proving too difficult. It is a typical legend. "

Right:-he yard at Dresden Friedrichstadt was completed in May 1894 and operated on a slope of decline continuously with a particularly steep fall of the impasse of the reception for the ways of ranking. Initially the brakemen worked wind brakes down on the cars as they were tossed on the slope in sidings tris, but in 1928, the yard has been modernised and converted into string operated bump (similar to that which has survived in the 1990s at Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf). As World War II drew to a close, the yard was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing and it took several years to rebuild it in the former German Democratic Republic. Retarder equipment was provided by the Soviet Union and main rail brakes were supplemented by some flame retardants of entry to each track, shaped like screw located next to the bearing bar. It was one of the busiest yards on the Reichsbahn handling 5000 cars daily across its 34 sorting sidings. At this point of view taken of the bump in 1992 control tower, the flow had fallen to 1600 wagons per day as a result of a sharp drop in the individual wagon traffic after German reunification in 1989. The hump ceased operation in 2009 and by 2015 sorting sidings were used to store the excess cars, with goods trains mobilized in the 20 reception sidings to the East of the old hump yard. (Mr. Rhodes)

You see the (M.Rhodes) in the end, I want this style automatically to a bold italic and I thought that I had sorted with \ (. *?------) but it also takes the (similar to one that has survived in the 1990s at Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf) further to the top of the legend and I don't want to do that. Can someone help and point me in the right direction?

  • Use GREP text style - help!

    I'm trying to learn the GREP style text... and hitting my head on a brick wall!

    The text is:

    Topic | Institution | Date

    Lorem ipsum dolor...

    I want to format the text before the line of the first vertical (|) as "BOLD", the text between the first and second vertical lines in italics and a third style to the text between the second vertical line and carriage return. The rest of the text (Lorem...) will be the normal paragraph style. Seems simple enough...

    I'm uncomfortable with the creation of character styles relevant for formatting I need, I can't just not work how to select the corresponding text. I can't figure out yet how to express 'select the text before' character as ' |'.

    Can someone help me write the GREP expression, or point me in the direction of some examples that contain similar phrases? I found that a few cheatsheets online (below), but none contain the phrase "select text before".

    No, I wrote them... but yes, it's a collection of styles. A bit like this:

    really not a big piece of art, but it works and can be used as a start point.its to everyone to decide what to use. What and when. Frankly, I almost forgot the nested styles even exist...

  • Use GREP to apply paragraph styles, character styles not only

    I have a body of text, and in it, I would like to apply a specific style to the paragraphs corresponding to a model. I did a GREP style that applied some changes formatting of paragraphs, I tried that it affects, but in doing so, I found that I couldn't Center these lines using a character style. (The corresponding lines should be centered, and the rest should be left aligned.)

    I was thrilled to learn that the GREP function, then completely disappointed with this limitation. InDesign offers the possibility to automate this, so I must not cross and Center each paragraph corresponding to the hand?

    Thank you!

    InDesign provides a way to automate this so?

    Yes and no. There is no dynamically linked paragraph styles to a paragraph about his boss, but he has at least two alternatives:

    (1) use Grep-F/C

    (2) use the script FindChangeByList or MultiFindChange which is basically automate operations F/C

    If I create a paragraph style, is it possible to use GREP to automatically change the space in the area of district? and if so, what this text GREP would look like?

    Jump_Over, that did the trick! I'm just starting to learn more about the power of GREP in indesign and have still a long way to go.

  • Can I use GREP to transform every fourth tab back?

    I have a huge file with tabs plus 5,000, and only every fourth tab must be changed for a return. Is this possible using GREP or ANY OTHER METHOD and pressing back another me having to manually select each fourth tab?

    This screen is pulled before running GREP? You don't mention he had already returns after the names in some places.

    You need the * after all the [^ \t] elements, but avoids the. +. [^ \t] is a negative class, that means anything that is not a tab, and the * means 0 or more times.

    And you said every fourth tab, so it's actually the tab after the postal code, and which seems to do what you ask. If you want to change the tab after the name on the first line, I this would address differently.

    Find ^(.*?\t.*?) (\t) (?!\(\d{3}\)) which means find any character at the beginning of a paragraph (if there is) followed by a tab and more characters (if there are any), then a followed by three digits in parentheses DO NOT tab, and change $ 1 which should only change the tabs after the names. It is, however to change the tab after the postal code if the following line does not begin with three digits in brackets.

    Looking at the ads, are you sure you want to change this tab for a paragraph, rather than just a forced line break return (you can do by changing to $1\n)? It depends on how your styles are implemented...

  • Adding hyperlinks and text ankles using Grep

    Hi all

    I tried to add both a hyperlink text source and destination within my document using Grep, but I can't seem to do things. I'm looking to find the source text that has the style of paragraph "1HD" and begins with the word 'History', and then turn that into the source text for the hyperlink. Secondly, that the text "References" later to become the anchor of the text to the destination of the link. As a reference, here is what is defined:

    var myHeader = app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "1HD";
    var myHeader = app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "Historical \w*";

    as well as

    var myAnchor = app.findGrepPreferences.appliedParagraphStyle = "";
    var myAnchor = app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "References";

    I did experiment with information I could get my hands on in line, but I always feel to get an error or another. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards and thanks in advance.

  • GREP paragraph style (all the text and paragraphs up to $ first)

    I'm trying to use GREP style automatically style a price level and I'm struggling with something that shouldn't be so hard, but it's starting to do my head in.

    I want all of the text and the line breaks that preceded the first $ sign to use a different character Style.

    Now, I tried . + (? = \ $) but it only works on the first paragraph, the sign $ appears on, not all paragraphs leading to it.

    Any help will be greatly appreciated and if someone has a big link to GREP styling in InDesign CS4 or 5 would be too great, I had one a while ago, but I lost my bookmark and don't find it anymore.

  • GREP/nested styles: need help

    Hello

    I loved GREP and styles nested from the moment that I realized what it was. But unfortunately, I'm not very good at building structures, and I can't find a manual GREP for my needs (I would need in German). So, my skills are very, very basic, but usually, I hear. Now I have a task that goes well beyond and after a year and a half very frustrating days of testing and tweaking that I say I'm stuck. I hope someone can help.

    So, this is the task: I have an Excel, 11 columns and hundreds of lines. Those who will have to go in a "list of publications" of a scientific book.

    The columns are separate tabstop:

    Author1 Author2 author3 Author4 Author5 text title Journal Volume Page year

    The result should look like this:

    Author1, Author2 author3 Author4 and Author5, text,

    Title

    Journal < empty > Volume < White > page (year)

    So, I have to insert commas, the word "and", (probably sweet) line, blanks and media breaks. "Title" should be in italics, while "Volume" should be "BOLD". The problem is that I get text corrections all the time and the excel file becomes longer and more every day. In addition, some columns, such as 'Author4' and 'Author5' and especially 'text' are often, but not always, empty.

    Is there a way to change the tabstop property separated Excel lines in what it must look like more or less automatically (or at least in a few simple steps)?

    Thanks for your help!

    Best of a sunny Hannover, Germany.

    Yes, Excel. I used beaches named, but names must be mapped to the cell references, so in the formula, author1 would be A1 cells, Author2 would be A2, etc.. I used the named ranges because it is easier to follow the formula! You do not want to replace the beaches named with the cell references, if you copy the formula down from the full range of cells.

    There is Formula with normal cell references

    "= A1 & IF (B1 =""," ", IF (C1 =" ","and"B1,", "& B1)) & IF (C1 =""," ", IF (D1 =" ","and"C1,", "& C1)) & IF (D1 =""," ", IF (E1 =" ","and"D1,", "& D1)) & IF (E1<>" "," and "& E1," "") & "," & F1 & "~ 1" & G1 & "~ 2" & H1 & "~ 3" & I1 & ", 4 ~ '" & J1 & ' ~ 5("&K1&") ' "

    You can replace by ~ with tabs, although only because the number of authors is changing that may make it difficult to know through GREP where you are in the text.

    Just to clarify, A1 would be author1, B1 would Author2, C1 would be author3... K1 would year

  • Problem with GREP search styles

    Hello

    Here's a script that finds all one to three digits and then selects only those numbers that are in exponent or use the style police by exposing open type.

    This works if I'm looking for just any of these styles, but not both at the same time. When I use the script as written below to find the Exhibitor open Type or by exposing that he finds all the numbers. Why is this happening?

    In addition, I built the script that filters all the figures for these styles, because I couldn't see how I could create a script that uses GREP itself searching for character styles.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Tom

    myDoc var = app.activeDocument;
    table below is all the figure of one to three words.
    Notes end var = theGrepFinder (myDoc, "\\d {1,3}");
    Here is a filter to get only those who are exposing (1936749411) or use SuperScripted (1884247155) of open Type.
    var arrFiltered = [];
    for (var a = 0; endNotes.length > a; a ++) {}
    If (end notes [a] .position == 1936749411 |) {1884247155)
    arrFiltered.push (endNotes [a]).
    } / / end if
    } //end for
    Endnotes = arrFiltered;

    functions *.
    function theGrepFinder (docRef, grepFindIt) {}
    app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
    app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.NOTHING;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = grepFindIt;
    var arrGrepFindIt = myDoc.findGrep ();
    Return arrGrepFindIt;
    } //end theGrepFinder

    I think that your test should be formulated as follows:

    If ((notes de fin [une].position == 1936749411) |) (notes de fin [une].position == 1884247155))

    As JavaScript OR is inclusive, this test passes if both parties are met.

  • How to use GREP expression to group the last two words of a paragraph?

    Hi guys, I'm dealing with a document that is riddled with the orphan and want to use GREP to get rid of them all.

    I found this thread talking about how to group all the last 10 characters. But in my language, you can have up to 4 words together (almost a third of the sentence!) and still not break the limit of 10 characters. So if I use this expression, a sentence cut in half way, which make the whole paragraph looks horrible. I also tried the (\s\w+)? $ expression, but he left a few intact orphans (No. very random, model at all).

    So is there any other expression that can make the last 2 words of any paragraph together like glue stick?

    (\H+?\h ?) {2} $

  • using an object style before the placement of the image

    I want to place 20 images using an object style in which I have a black 3point outline for all images. How can I do? I have to manually apply an object style to the images after that that they have been placed.

    As far as I know, it always works to place WITHOUT pre-existing framework: http://indesignsecrets.com/applying-an-object-style-when-placing-an-image.php

    If you want to do some sort of pre-existing images, you use the rectangle tool instead of the frame tool.
