  • Use two monitors on Mac Mini end of 2012

    Hello

I am currently using only a single monitor (A Dell S2340M 23 "") with my Mac Mini end of 2012 (with these ports: Mac mini (end of 2012): external ports and connectors - Apple Support), and I am interested in adding a second monitor, something around the same size as my current. How to connect two monitors on my Mac? Thanks in advance.

The support for the Mac Mini shows article (end of 2012) and details which ports can do.

So you would probably need to get an adapter Thunderbolt using a second screen, seems.

See the items listed to connect to the Thunderbolt port in the link you posted. I have the same

link to my favorites for more than a year...

I have an i7 Mac Mini end of 2012, using only a screen Apple Cinema (aluminium).

Another option would also buy a bolt of lightning multiple port dock. Some allow others

products and ports in double. (Upward to 12 points, USB3.0, Thundebolt, etc) not cheap. A

A few screens can allow a Garland; Note looks like a bolt of lightning MiniDisplay port but can

not act like one. Adapters can allow minidisplay run Thunderbolt. See supported

Article and then see the page of the Apple store in graphics cards.

    Question:

    Video signal is de-energized.

    Hi all

I use this machine to run Logic Pro X. I tried a few monitors and different cables, but the result is the same.

the video signal sporadically goes out. The only way I can get it is back to turn off the Mini for a hour or stick it in the fridge for 5 minutes. It doesn't seem to be dependent on the temperature, since it happens a lot less in the months more cold however showed the journal to monitor temperature as low as 73 C time and he fell again the thermal signal can therefore not the question.

The fan seems to work and I tried to change the memory to return with noticed no difference. I recently replaced the OCW SSD due to premature failure and spin a new installation of El Capitan on a new drive. I eliminated the monitor and cable as a culprit, so I think that I am dealing with an internal failure. The machine is not under warranty.

I read a lot of posts on mini Mac in thermal shutdown models particularly image, mine has not overheated or goes out, he simply loses its video signal. Fans and ports are clean and free of dust.

    Everyone knows about this problem?

Install a fan speed and temperature app to help you determine if it is really related monitoring temp.

I suspect a hardware problem. The graphics unit in the Mac Mini 2012 is integrated into the CPU chip

  • You can use an external hard drive with the Mac Mini?

I've seen videos that say that we cannot increase the ram on a min of Mac, but I'm curious if this works like an ordinary computer, if we can attach an external hard drive to store some of the memory to free up space. Sorry if this is something stupid just need to know what I can do with it.

You can use an external hard drive to boot and run with any Mac. Its not going to improve or replace your ram. If you use a mechanical hard drive in any Mac then help and boot from an external drive, especially if it's a SSD will be significantly faster.

  • My Mac mini end of 2012 does not start: stuck at the total black screen

    Thus,.

I tried to install Windows 8 with bootcamp using a USB key. It did not work ("" can not do a new partition on this disk or some * like that "") but this, I'm sure that has not affected my install OS X, I've never been format the Bootcamp partition.

So, I leave the Windows installation program, reboot and remove the USB key. Now, I get the black screen that OSX shows when it has no OS, giving me the impression that he wiped / corrupted installation.

    Very well...

But there is a twist. I can not hold option to join the boot device selector, nor can I press CMD + R or retrieve internet. Metal target does not work. I have reset the NVRAM successfully a few times, but it start always black.

I am using a wired keyboard and mouse. I tried to use external SuperDrive with a CD player. As well as USB. I'm lost and I'm an experienced technician, and I admit that I am an iSheep. Then Yes.

    Thank you.

(And I didn't get any update of third party other than an SSD, which worked well for centuries)

EDIT: and I reset the SMC EDIT 2: I know also that this probably isn't a hardware problem, I am positive my OS X install and the OS X recovery partition are corrupt. I don't understand why I can't hold option, and I don't understand why the recovery of the internet does not work when you have no recovery partition. I would be grateful if I could start anything, without having to open my Mac.

Do you get a startup chime?

Unplug everything except KB/monitor / power and try to start with the command + R and press the Option key.

If still problem dismantle the Mac and disconnect the internal disks and try again

    Try reinstalling the memory

  • Upgrade hard drive Mac Mini end of 2012.

I7 clocked at 2.6 ghz 16 GB ram...

Fusion car again, noted that, once 128 GB ssd was that full, there was no real advantage to the merger. I decided (possible foolishly) to do an upgrade.

Installed 500 GB Samsung evo 850 ssd, wd 1 TB of storage. (no merge)

Set up own of El Capitan with bootable USB drive. Everything is good so far except noticed mini heater, exhaust fan works not!

take off cover, plug verified, it was well set, leading fan and he continued running.

Everything seemed so finished installation and got replacement as precautionary measure fan and equipped.

More than three weeks a couple of other strange events, two or three times at the start, progress bar would get to halfway, empty display outside and nothing more occur. Force shutdown, reboot and everything ok again.

The fan has stopped when the mini went to sleep once or twice, reboot has solved sometimes. Reset the PRAM again.

Over the past three days several times, fan stopped at startup, reset the SMC seems to fix the problem. All connectors are good. I have followed with Imenus and more recently THPro, when the fan stops it is reported to be clocked at 650 RPM!

I searched this problem, a person finds that remove the original drive on mac mini stopped fan altogether, substituting the original 'apple drive"and and the fan works fine! that makes no sense to me, but the Samsung in car that belonged the 128 GB ssd my original merger was coded firmware to it was "Apple."

The Evo 850 does not report temperature through the chip, I don't see that this would lead to good questions?

Don't know where I'm going with this, I could replace the original 'Apple readers' and see what is going on, at least I could forget a possible crude oil on a fire. Should I reinstall and do a fusion drive (can't see that it would make a difference)

I took everything public static precautions, taken my time replace the disks and it went smoothly without a hitch...

If anyone can suggest anything, I would be very grateful.

  • My Mac Mini (end of 2012) will support a MHL HDMI 4 k monitor?

    Hi all..

I'm a little confused about two things.  I'm in the market for a new monitor and thought getting a screen of 4K, but I came across 2 questions...

1 - is my Mac Mini w / 1.5 GB HD4000 support a MHL HDMI monitor? (I know that my current monitor is connected via HDMI and it works fine but "MHL" in the face of the HDMI throws me for some confusion.  My HD4000 graphics card is able to use the display 4K?

    2. If this type of connector would I need to do 4 K monitor work?  A standard HDMI cable would make the case, or do I me some sort of DVI (or something) connection cable?

All information of someone a little more familiar with it, so I'm would be great because it's what makes my decision to purchase between a nice 144 mhz Full HD 27 "monitor of game and an Ultra 4K 28" monitor.  I'm more concerned about the view regarding the use of photoshop and dreamweaver even more than games, but a combination of the two would be a nice touch.  I know that the first works, but something is lure me in get the screen 4K of supreme graphics in applications like Photoshop.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. the 2012 Mac Mini is not capable of producing at 4 K resolution, unfortunately. It is limited to a maximum of 2560 x 1600 on the Thunderbolt Port / Mini Display Port.

This means however not she can use the 4 k display, it can, just that it will be at the lower resolution, the mini can produce.  The 4K display can always make things a bit pretty but.

    2. you must use a Mini Display Port to DVI (assuming that the 4 k display has a DVI port) to get the highest possible resolution of her. 2560 x 1600

Note that HDMI port is limited to 1920 x 1200 pixels

  • Can I also use RAM from a mac mini in 2012 in an iMac 2010?

    Hello

I recently updated the RAM in a mac mini 'end 2012' a member of the family of 2 x 4 GB 2 x 8 GB, which means that I now have two spare 4 GB modules.  I also got an iMac 27 "older, (mid-2010), which has 4 x 2 GB RAM modules.

Can I replace two 2 GB modules in the iMac with two 4 GB of the mac mini modules to increase his performance a bit?  (it is no longer my main machine, but I still use it, and it's not like I'm going to do a lot for the minis ex modules on eBay!)

Looking at the specifications, the 2010 need PC3-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SDRAM mac 204-pin SO-DIMM, while ex-mac mini modules are PC3-12800 (1600 MHz), 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM.  It seems to me like the mac mini modules can roll at a faster rate as the needs of the iMac, but on the assumption that surpassing the requirements can be a problem, they won't work?   Would be risking damage (to the iMac or modules) if I gave them a try? In other words, what is the worst that can happen?

    Any experience/advice welcome!

    Richard.

Hard to say, but using RAM that differs from the form is always a gamble. RAM rated faster than necessary can work. You can judge them. If there is a problem, that you will be alerted by the operating system no doubt when you try to start.

To avoid any problems with the RAM does not. He will not or should not damage the computer.

    Thanks for your replies!

Download GeekBench and look over the results of tests to find out. Not enough information provided and without tests side by side of each configuration, it's almost an impossible question to answer definitively.

The SSD used by Apple in a Mini 2012 is not necessarily the same brand and model from the one used in an iMac of 2015. Then there is a dual-core or quad-core i7 in the Mini. iMacs usually had the quad-core processors, I think.

  • Mac Mini end of 2014 vs SSD Ram

Hey guys, I just bought the Mac Mini end of 2014. Maybe I should blame myself for not doing some research that I have a model end of 2012 before that. I used to increase the ram myself whenever I need it, it was easy-peasy. So I bought the 2014 version, thinking that it will be the same. But no, the ram is welded on and there is no way that I can upgrade. The mac was bought to an APR, his return is not possible according to the policy of the store.

I understand that if the RAM is not enough, the operating system will use hard disk space instead. So what I intend is to upgrade the HDD to the SSD, I have made the my previous Mac Mini. Just so that it allows to speed up the process and minimize the crash.

Question, this will help solve the problem of ram? Nor can do anything and that's it?

Yes a SSD will improve performance, and partially make up for not enough RAM. However, how well that depends on what applications run you. Some applications are memory intensive and may not show as much improvement

Several months ago, I bought the Mac Mini desktop computer and use Foxfire as my server. I wonder constantly update my Foxfire, but am not allowed to connect to the Foxfire server even if I'm already connected. What is my solution?

If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop disk image (dmg)

    • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
    • Install the new version you downloaded
