Use the 9i on a database 8i database links?

Just a really quick question... I can't easily find an answer...

If I connect to a database to 8i a link of a 9i database database, can I then use syntax on the 8i database 9i, or am I still hold to the 8i syntax?

NO.
The database link passes the SQL to the remote database, which will deal with SQL.
The remote 8i database will not be able to interpret the syntax 9i.
Also, you can not use regular expressions in your 9i database by sending them through a database link. The SQL sent to the remote database will not scan in the remote database.

But, by all means, try it. If in doubt, try it.

  • Cannot use the native sequence of database to insert data through the DbAdapter

    Hello

    I use Oracle Fusion Middleware 12.1.3 (selection of pre-designed developer programs for Oracle VM VirtualBox VMs |) Oracle Technology Network). I'm trying to insert data into the Oracle database coming with the device via a DbAdapter. I want to use the native Oracle sequences for primary keys and have configured appropriatelly the DbAdapter. But in execution, I get the following exception:

    Caused by: java.sql.SQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException: ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ('SCOTT'. "ORDERS '." (' ' ID ')

    If I configure the such DbAdapter that do not use sequences, I get the same exception. I'm missing here?

    Kind regards

    Nicolas

    Reading more carefully the exception, in the log file of the server, not just the display of messages in the console of the em, I could note that the ConnectionFactory configured on the outgoing Dbadapter connection used to access the database was incorrect. He was using JavaDb instead of Oracle that I made a mistake of copying and pasting. Correction of this error has resolved the problem.

    I use dreamweaver cs4 and spry menu to create a dynamically created menu system. My concept is to fill the menu items on the fly using MS sql server as database technology.

    Basically

    1. create a dynamic XML files containing data from the database
    2. create a SpryXMLDataSet
    3. create a SpryRegion when the menu is displayed
    4. using SpryRepeat fill the menu

    select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('VIEW','V_EMP') from dual;
    Please help me

    Thank you

    Using below, I can retrieve my local point of view, here my question is how can I recover the 'abc' DB link?

    select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('VIEW','V_EMP') from dual;

    You can't get the ddl of the remote object. But you can use data dictionary views remote, for example dba_views@link.

    Another way is to write a procedure remote DB that gets the ddl of the local object, so you can call it via dblink.

  • the variable name of database query to SQL Server using the Oracle database link

    Hi all

    I have an ApEx 4.1 application running on x 64 (11.2.0.1) 11g on Windows Server 2008 x 64, and I have a few points of data integration with SQL (2005 and 2008) server that I need to create. I have configured the database with dg4odbc link and it works perfectly... I can run queries on the SQL Server database without any problem using the database link.

    However, there is a scenario where the SQL Server database name is dynamic, and I need to generate on the fly in a PL/SQL block and then use it in a query dynamic SQL (all this in the ApEx). It of wherever I meet problems... when I asked the default database that is based on the ODBC connection and I don't have to specify the name of the database, no problem. But when I need access to one of the several other databases by default, I received the error "invalid table.

    It works well:* (note that 'fv' is the name of my database link)

    v_query1: = "select 'Release Date' from dbo." Schedules@FV where dbo. Annexes. "" SchedID "=: calendar";
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query1 in rel_date using the grid.

    I then take this rel_date variable, convert a varchar2 (rel_date_char), then use it as the name of the database in the following query...

    _ It returns an error(error ORA-00903: invalid table name)

    v_query2: = "select"PARTNO": rel_date_char.dbo.ProdDetails@fv where 'SchedID' =: calendar and"UnitID"=: unit"
    and 'MasterKey' =: master and "ParentKey" =: parent';

    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE v_query2 in part_number using planning, master, parent unit;

    I also tried using all of the following conditions without result:

    "select"PARTNO"of" | : rel_date_char | '.dbo. ProdDetails@fv where 'SchedID '...
    "select"PARTNO"of" | rel_date_char | '.dbo. ProdDetails@fv where 'SchedID '...
    "select"PARTNO"of" | @rel_date_char | '.dbo. ProdDetails@fv where 'SchedID '...

  • ONLY INSERT OR DELETE THE PRIVILEGE TO THE DATABASE LINK

    Hi all

    create database link test_link

    (SERVICE_NAME = prod)

    )

    )'

    The link is created successfully and I am able to perform all the DML operations on it.

    The Question is there a way by which we can give only insert or delete or privilege is not to remove from the table at this link.

    For operations select only, I know that by creating a view I can restrict the remote user, but is there a way by which I can give only insert or remove remove link of database.

    You can not grant any privilege to a link. Can you and your team identify a location in the documentation, if required?

    By default, a remote session will get the same privilege as the user to which it connects.

    BTW:

    • do not use a database link tnsnames.ora makes your hard to maintain link
    • using addresses IP hard in a database link makes your link even more difficult to maintain
    • by specifying a hardcoded password in a database link is a breach of security.
