  Recently, I met a problem with my PC and was forced to use the system recovery. Now I'm back to factory settings and try to install Windows XP Service Pack 3 on my computer. Windows Update won't work for me, that whenever I try to update I get [error number: 0x8024400A]. I think it's because I use Service Pack 2, or that's what I concluded after researching the problem, anyway.

"  I went into safe mode and went to a just system restore point before SP3 was installed, but now I don't know how to install it correctly without encountering this problem after reboot.   If the cause of your problem is to have a HP PC with an AMD processor and an original image on your hard drive (and of course it sounds like this is the case), the solution should be to rename the file intelppm.sys and launch the sp37394.exe patch. The first erases the disk and leave you with a pristine image and NOTHING ELSE (which means that all of your programs and data get deleted). The other (which does not always correctly) is supposed to leave programs and data intact.

After finishing SP2, windows update has provided a new Windows Update Agent, which made it impossible to update. This is my 4th new installation disc from Dell, that started because of this same update to Windows Update Agent. I'm about to give up. If you try to install, I would set a restore point before doing so.
