using prelude as simple dam

Hello

I wanted to check if it is possible to use prelude as a Digital Asset Management System.

We keep all our old raw images on the hard drives offline (for most of the red carpet interviews). I am looking for a simple solution where I can import files database info into a database, add metadata to it (what place of the event, the names of the people in the video, that hard disk,...).

I understand from the previous post what prelude research only in the currently open project, but it does mean that all assets must be online as well? Or can I simply add all the sequences for the same project (which I would use only for finding files) and then search for, lets say, a name and Prelude lists all sequences where the meta-data includes the name and I know what hard disks draw and find the file on?

I have studied several specialized dam solutions, but most is optimized for images and does not yet support video. That those who are out there for video assume you need your content accessible 24/7 and are optimized for it. So maybe the prelude would provide a work around?

Thank you!

Hi everyone-

This is a good thread. Please share your ideas on how you want to have access to ALL of your metadata, whatever the clips are currently in your project Panel. It's something we've been thinking and taking into account both product team. I would like to respond to some of the questions open this thread first and then ask a few questions to you if you would answer all.

First of all, you can create a "Master" project and store all your possessions in there. Like the post above moshj, your media should be available (online) in order to perform the search. When you open a Prelude project will search for and load metadata associated with all the clips in the project and keeps in memory. That's how we perform research capacity in the project Panel if quickly (we do not need to read the metadata of each item whenever you perform a search). But it also means that your clips must be available at the time of the open project. Clearly, this cannot be a viable solution for many of you.

Secondly, Gallixsee makes a good point, and question about what good adds all of these metadata for if you can't use it in first (since Premiere Pro CS6 does not provide a mechanism to search for marker data). Yes, there is a hole in the workflow of global metadata between apps, and we are addressing it.  There is a value in the workflow (although I admit having ability to Search Marker is a missing key point), that your markers added in prelude appear in Premiere Pro. So we kind of had half the workflow in CS6 and working on the other half.

And finally, using a "Master project" is possible, but keep in mind that the number of assets in your project increases, the loading time of project will also increase. If you start to add tens of thousands of clips in your project, you can start to notice the longer loading time of project. This may or may not be a problem for you, but is something that I wanted to scream. Our project loading code is optimized for fast loading times. We use caching and other cool stuff to be as fast as possible, but there are certainly limits where you will start to notice the bottlenecks in loading times due to the number of access to the file and we do under the hood of disk access.

Now for some questions for you all. When you think of a dam as part of the prelude, I am curious to understand key features you want to see. For example, if prelude had simply to remember all the assets and all the metadata for each asset in a database and make sure is available, is it enough? Would you need to share this data with others? What do you expect your media is archived or moved offline - must prelude to know on which somehow? You want to have features of archiving / backup as part of the prelude that update the properties of DAM as well (perhaps with labels for any road or LTO you put your media on)? What other features would you consider critical to your workflow? Features feel like 'must haves' workflows of cloud-related?

Thanks in advance for any input here.

Kind regards

Michael

    Hello

You will be able to use the watch in Europe.

There is no regional differences in the hardware and the software can be configured to your chosen region. The supplied USB power adapter will have to pine trees located in the United States. A travel adapter will allow you to connect it to the European outlets.

Alternatively, you can buy an Apple USB power adapter that is located in your country of destination / country.

  • Pixelation in the video after it has been imported using prelude

    Hi all

I've had this problem for about a year now, and he creeps upward often enough. Never the project, but a lot more than I like.

I am importing video with prelude. I don't have transcode with Prelude, I simply use it to transfer and rename and edit the files natively. I then send the files of prelude in first.

I get weird pixelation like this:

    Dropbox - FROMPRELUDETOPREMIERE.png

These little glitches pop up in about 3 or 4 pieces-frame every 15-20 seconds. It gets really annoying.

At first, I thought it was the memory cards. With the help of different cards did nothing. I use good, fast, brand cards and he continues to be on all of them.

Then I thought it was the camera. Nope. This glitch happened on five different cameras. Happened on a C100, a 70 d, T3i, a GH4 and a D810.

To determine out exactly this question, I have a right-click the file transferred first and choose reveal in Finder. I pulled it right in first and he had the glitch.

Then I thought that I would drag the file on the card immediately, to see if the problem is still there until the file is prelude. I did drag the files directly off the card and first. No seed. I went in Media Browser and imported the files directly on the map in this way also, no seed. That tells me that something is happening in the prelude to ruin my files.

So my question is this: because it appears as if the problem is with Prelude... am I out of luck when it comes to use prelude? Someone had a similar problem with Prelude and able to fix it? I really like the way works Prelude and don't want to use a different program, but I do not need to rename files in batches, and since I do not know if it is possible from first, I don't know if I'll need to spend money on other software to perform this task?

Any thoughts from people you would be very appreciated.

    Thank you

PS: using CC 2015 and an iMac 2013 end with El Capitan

Update. Appears that something may not be prelude, but rather a hardware/software thing. I bought EditReady to try it. Re-wrapped clips and imported in the first and the pixelation was back. If anyone has an idea on where to go with my troubleshooting then, it would be greatly appreciated, but it seems that this is not necessarily something specific prelude/first.

  • How can I transcode footage to Prores using prelude?

I want to transcode to Prores with prelude pictures.  My media card contains images shot at different rates.  I want to be able to match the source rate image when transcoding to ProRes format.  I could swallow lots of clips that all have the same cadence, choosing this frame rate to transcode, but it doesn't seem to be a way to see the frame rate of the clips.  I tried swallowing without transferring (or transcoding).  Once you ingest, you are able to see the rate of frame in list mode, but it doesn't seem to be an option to transcode after ingestion.  That one surprises me.  Looks like a number of reasons why you can transcode after ingestion.  In any case, any intervention autour for a film of transcoding with different rates and preserve the initial rate?

Reason: your title is too long

    Hi GBreece,

I want to transcode to Prores with prelude pictures.

Large. You can preset in Adobe Media Encoder to transcode to ProRes different rates gently.

My media card contains images shot at different rates.  I want to be able to match the source rate image when transcoding to ProRes format.

You must keep a log of different frame rates, you pull so you can keep track of them in post. Prelude will transcode images according to the preset you select, it is not automatically detect the pace you want. It's a feature request: http://adobe.ly/feature_request

In any case, any intervention autour for a film of transcoding with different rates and preserve the initial rate?

Yet once again, I let you transcode with frequency of native images using a preset that you create in Media Encoder. If you do not know the pace, reveal the item in the Finder, then open the file in QuickTime or similar. Properties of the clip are available here.

    Thank you

  • Using prelude to collaborate

I have a client who has a full documentary on bluray that it wants to take down for other uses without going back to the original edition.  I ripped M2ts files from the bluray and made the subelements of the entire program with decent notes on each scene.  What I want to do is to be able to show my client the information you see in the window 'List of markers' in a worksheet.  It would be fantastic.  It shows a thumbnail, entry points and shooting title and a description.

Someone at - it a good workflow to make this same sort of thing?  If Yes... I'd love to hear how and what you were doing.  I ended up making buckets of the marker list window screen and their culture in photoshop and then save it in the format PDF and those of my client sent... but is NOT effective. Ideas?

    HI -.

I wanted to share the keyboard driven workflow as a prelude, we have for logging. It does not require to use marker inspector at all in fact. (It is always an option, but as you have discovered, you must make a number of mouse clicks to move).  In the keyboard-driven workflow that you don't need to touch the mouse at all.

Whenever you add a marker to a clip, you will get what is called "Head Up Display" text entry area just below the tab for panel mounting area and the marker list Panel. This HUD will ask you for the text fields of the markers (NAME and DESCRIPTION). Pressing the TAB key you switch between each field marker and can therefore enter the necessary text.  The HUD is essentially an edit of text like any other control in the application, but it comes with a few secrets powers regarding control of reading are concerned.  Before we get to that we will examine some common keyboard shortcuts to control the playback in the prelude:

J-online rewind (each press increases the speed)

    K => stop playback

L-Online Play/fast forward (each press increases speed)

    And some marker commands:

I have-online Set points for selected marker marker

O => Set the selected marker marker

These command work very well. But when you have the HUD displays and are entering text, pressing the "K" key to stop the playback so you can catch up with our description of typing will only add the character 'K' in the text field. Probably NOT what you want. But, if you hold down the button ALT/OPT AND hit 'K' at the same time, you will notice the reading stops, no 'K' is added to your editing of text HUD control and in fact the objective remains in the HUD text edit control. Hold down the edit key and using playback control ALT/OPT and marker keyboard shortcuts always perform you these commands without losing focus in the text. This is how you connect effectively through just the keyboard.

It takes a little getting used to, but after a little practice, it becomes a tool of invaluable workflow for quick registration.

    I hope this helps!

  • Best Format to Transcode for partial ingest using prelude

I'm trying to see if the prelude is logical for my workflow in Premiere Pro CS6. So far, it seems too good to be true, especially the ability to partially injest records as a prelude with IN/OUT points. If I understand correctly, this feature I must transcode during same injestion if my native format (HDV/1080 p. M2T) works very well in the body.

So my question, among the many options of format SOUL offering for prelude injestion transcoding, is that I should consider to maximize the performance of Premiere Pro editing?

I prefer lossless transcoding of intermediate files.  The lossless option only included with the PP is uncompressed.  Who can make the files quite big and heavy, so I use the free codec of UT.  It is compressed, so it is smaller (especially in the YUV420, which is suitable for your media mode).  It is a lossless compression, so there is no damage at all.

And it works very well with the Adobe programs.

  • Flex can be used to create simple games?

Hello. I think to create simple games for children 6-10 years. Games can be things such as drag-and - drop and multiple choice questions. I would like to save the results to a database. Can I use Flex Builder to do this, or do you advise me to Flash? Can you point me to a resource on this?

The reason why I ask is that I have built web applications using Flex and have some experience with Flash Basic. Building games will be very difficult if I have to use the Flash? The project will begin in January and should be completed by the end of March 2010. Thank you.

According to your description for games Flex should be fine. It also depends on the skills and experience you have in the technology.

  • With the changes made in the Adobe Acrobat DC he has made things more difficult for me. All I want to do is to rename a file. Used to be simple. Please tell me how to rename a file without using the cloud. I'm not paying for storage when I have an SD card

Hate the new update.  I need to rename files and cannot do without using the cloud.  Could not sign in the cloud free services.  Someone knows how to rename the files with Adobe Acrobat DC? I use a HD with Android corner.

Do you have any file manager installed on your device? This feature is no longer available in the latest version of Acrobat DC but we actively seek to provide the same in one of our future releases. To work around the problem, you will need to duplicate/rename the files using a third-party file manager application.

  • Change keyboard shortcuts, use simple characters that are normally reserved for tool Control Panel

I have a script that I use now that I want to replace the bar cropping tool,

Can I deselect C for the use of the current culture in keyboard shortcuts. When I then go to menus keyboard shortcuts of applications, I am looking to replace the scripts files > "croptool.jsx" and select "C" and it won't let me not use it as it takes a combination of keys.

Then I exported the keys and then open in Text edit.

It seems straight forward, so I added the line up above the vanishing point.

    < command type='Dynamics' name='Script_CROPTOOL'>

    < Shortcut >C< / shortcut >

    < / order >

    < command type='Dynamics' name=' Vanishing Point '>

    < Shortcut >Cmd + Opt + V< / shortcut >

    < / order >

Then when I load it. He worked in part. In this C now appears in the menu. So anyone know if I can get this working correctly? A little more code can be used to allow simple letters in the wok in "application menus.

Under file > Scripts > Script event handler you can bind an Action or Script to an event.

Select the tool crop could benefit, although I have not yet tested.

  • Prelude crashes and is basically unusable.

I have a pretty big project, I'm trying to view using prelude CS6 (1.0.3).  My bin ingest is 188 .mov files that are approximately 1 GB each.  Here are the movie files digitized films House of 8mm which have been converted.  I need to review all these and mark each one with the people that are in each film.  Prelude would be perfect to do that but I can't keep stable for more than about 5-7 reviews, then it locks, falls, crashes and burns.  It's more than a little frustrating.  My machine should be more than capable of handling this.  I have an i7 X 980 3.3 Ghz CPU with 24 GB RAM running on a mb with a 512 GB SSD ASUS.  I put the memory available for prelude to 18 GB.  Project cache must be enabled and the cache file is on the system of SSD drive.  The data files which are references are on an internal drive of the RAID 10 6 to (hardware RAID, not software windows RAID controller).  My graphics card is a Quadro FX3800 with 1 GB of video memory.

With this many images to the review and the tag I really want to continue to use the prelude but the crash brought me practically interrupted.

So, it's more simply boring.  No one has any idea?  Something to try?  I moved the cache on my RAID data disc and turn off the system OS disk.  That has not changed anything.

    HI -.

It is a known issue with how installers do not correctly put a key issue. The solution is simple, and this problem is fixed in the next version.

Depending on your operating system, please follow the steps below.

    On Mac:

    1. go in the/Users/Shared folder.

    2. create the "Adobe/Prelude/2.0" manually in the "Shared" folder

    On Windows:

    1. go to your Documents to disk: \Users\Public\Public, clear (or rename the existing folder of "Adobe" for "Adobe1" If you want to save files existed ") records under"Public Documents ".

2 restart the prelude to prelude recreated files

    3. try the new "ingest".

If the above does not solve the problem (even if we think that this will be enough) more information can be found here:
