Using Windows 7 for XP wireless network

Hello

I'm running a Windows 7 laptop (HP G72 - B01) and a PC Windows XP Desktop PC (HP-M1260-uk) has a wired connection to the router Netgear and W7 laptop is connected wireless to the router for Internet.  What I'm trying to do now is to create a network between the two for file sharing.  The desktop PC has 802. 11B wireless LAN and it's turned on but neither computer can see each other.  I searched a lot from other internet sources for the answer (changed the two working groups of the same name, enabled the Group of 'work' on the W7 laptop and activated the sharing of files on two computers) but nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thank you

Graeme

Hello:

I don't know that much on the network or the other. I was just lucky to have everything work after a couple fits and starts.

Everything you do is via the router. You have your network configured as a Network Infrastructure, correct?

I think you have 2 choices, Infrastructure or Ad Hoc and what you do are not ad hoc.

  • Issues with Dell desktop computer wireless and D-Link wireless network card. Only able to get wireless access by checking "Use Windows to configure my wireless network". This kind of file sharing impossible.

original title: can't see the computer on wireless internet!

I hope that's not too much detail, but I would like that the sequence of events to be clear...

I have a Dell desktop computer that's probably six or seven years now.  It did not come with a wireless card, so I bought a DLink router and combo card wireless, install both with the DLink software.  It works beautifully.

Later, we through my rep AT & T DSL, I got a Motorola modem/router with wireless capabilities.  I had plugged directly on my computer Dell desktop and moved to a Dell laptop DLink wireless receiver.  No problems.

The Dell laptop is dead and the DLink receiver has not been used for a long time.  Family of my daughter moved to our place, and I have connected his desktop computers and laptop to wireless internet, using the Windows Connection Wizard.  Still no problem.

I got a new ASUS laptop, I also linked using the Windows Wizard.  STILL no problem.

Now, here's the problem comes.  I moved the Dell desktop computer, connected the DLink wireless receiver to it and I am able to get wireless access ONLY when I go into the properties of PC, click the wireless networks tab and check the "use Windows to configure my wireless network" box.  Then I can connect correctly, but I don't see this computer on my wireless network.  Bad luck... because I want to be able to access share files.  When I try to connect using different assistants of Windows, I get a message to the effect that, if I used another software to connect to the program, I can't use the Windows Wizard.

So, what can I do to remove the original configuration of DLink completely and to connect to my wireless network using the wizards in Windows?  I uninstalled the software of DLink, but it seems to have no effect at all.

BTW, Dell desktop computer is running XP, office computer of my daughter is running VISTA, and two laptops are equipped with Windows 7.  I can see all the computers on the network with the exception of the original Dell desktop computer wireless.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello

I had this problem with configuring Wlan Windows but only because I used the Intel ProSet utility and clean windows option.
If the Intel ProSet utility began then the windows option has been disabled because the Intel ProSet utility undertook the Wlan configuration

I think you should check if some WLan 3rd party tools are not loaded in the background

Anyone has any ideas how I can make the tick in the box to default setting?

    Hello

I never heard this issue before.
Have you used an especial as Utility Intel ProSet utility to configure the WiFi connection?
As far as I know on some computers the Intel ProSet utility portable Satellite A100 was preinstalled. You should find it in the assistance of Toshiba.
I guess that this utility share rights of WLan connection. It is perhaps a reason for that matter.

What services do need me for a wireless network running? Or is completely managed by the modem provided from my ISP?

Assuming that you have manually stopped no Windows services, your PC is in good condition, and is equipped with a wireless transmitter/receiver, other than to locate your modem in the list of available wireless signals and by entering the password, you have nothing to do... :-)

    Gaara_2k6,
Welcome to the responses of the Forums.  The short answer to your questions are Yes and no and no.

Depends on how you format the drive, it will delete everything on the drive.  Now, it may still be recoverable with a software specialist or moving to a data recovery company.

If you formatted your hard drive you would not be able to start to do anything, because there would be nothing on the startup disk.  With the Windows XP CD or with the recovery media provided by the manufacturer of the PC is the only way to reinstall Windows. I try to use windows excel for windows vista and asks me to enter a product key. I am the sole owner of the computer but have no installation CD for recharge Excel. How can I find out what order to use the product? From now the product doesn't let me do anything. Help, please!

    Hello

Did you pay for Office (including Excel) in a packaging separated when you bought your computer?

Office is not included with your purchase of computer for free.

Most new computers come with a trial version of Office that lets 'x' number of days usuage.

After this test times out, you will have to buy Office.

And the product key on the computer case or laptop for the operating system, not for the desktop Suite.

  • problem witththe driver for the wireless network connection card

Quite suddenly my laptop (Toshiba) could not connect to my Modem and printer. I can only connect to the internet with a cable connection to the modem. The printer reports no problem with the connection. Troubleshooting report 'Problem with the driver for the wireless network connection card.' Problems also with ISATAP MS Driver adapter and Teredo Tunneling adapter. Software could not solve the problem.  A technician online know-how also faled to solve the problem after an hour trying everything - uninstalling and reinstalling, etc. He thought it would be a virus even though I have several active antivirus programs. Any ideas? Should I chuck the laptop away and buy a new one?

If, as you say, you have several active antivirus running programs, they will conflict with each other and you will have no protection
