  NTFS is incompatible, or there is a hardware failure, or it's a SoftRAID(4)/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows, and then restart Windows twice. Using the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID(4)/FakeRAID then frst activate and mount a different device under the/dev/map/directory, (for example/dev/map/nvidia_eahaabcc1). See the documentation for 'dmraid' for more details.

  It is not mount on windows either: "i/o device error".

  This is a disk with a single partition hard ntfs

  I'm sorry to read about problems with your drive.
  Unfortunately, I think that the question is misplaced a bit as your case appears to be the health of your rather external HARD drive that a specific problem related to Linux.

  To add clips, if the tools you use have failed to fix your drive, then I do not think that a user 'normal' forum will no longer.
  I know it's a fine recommendation and probably just add salt in your wounds: If you really care for files, do a sector backup before doing any file system / partition own modifications.
  The reason is very simple - if the tool you use has made a mistake when judging what actions are the right ones, and submit these changes, you move your goal - and fast!
  Instead of repairing, the tool can simply corrupt data even further.
  Any subsequent change aggravates the disorder exponentially.

  Judging by the details in your message, I'm sorry to say that I think your drive is defective, or at least the data is lost.
  Of course some companies will probably be able to restore it, but that normally costs a fortune.

  Unless you are willing to spend astronomical amounts of money on data rescue, so I suggest to accept data loss and look at what you can do with the HARD drive.
  Try to format. No problem, this indicates the drive is defective and must be replaced.

• mount the partition root to esx 4.1 in rescue livecd mode

  Hi guys! I have problem with recovery of esx 4.1 upd 3 Server. To my shame, I deleted /lib64/libc-2.5.so--> link lib64/libc.so.6, then restarted a server. So now, esx makes a core dump and does not start (Kernel panic not syncing kill init). I thought it was a piece of cake to boot from livecd linux, mount the partition root of esx and recreate the link but it was not as simple as that. In rescue of the livecd mode (redhat 5), I can only mount/boot partition for esx. Command fdisk-l shows a single device (/ dev/sda1) with linux fs and other devices sdaX with extended and uknown fs types and mount error on these devices. Mount/dev/sda1 gives me a partition/boot of esx. On another host esx 4.1 with a similar configuration command df shows partition/Boot resides on the device/dev/sdd1 while other partitions as root/var/log are located on/dev/sdeX devices. After having investigated further, I found that/dev/sdd is a local protected by car while/dev/sde does not match any network SAN or raid connected locally to the readers. Tomorrow I will try to boot from the esx installation media and see if there is something simillar to rescue mode and try and do something here. I have no idea what to do if it won't help. In the hope to hear a good advise to you guys!

  Do a new installation on a disk SAN and after booting from it, I was able to solve the problem with the link. Old server is running. But after all I agree with you markdjones82 - it would be faster and easier to reinstall from scratch.

• VCB backup snapshot or virtual machine?

  Workflow of VCB, I read these procedures frequently and I'm confused by what backup software is stored:

  So I wonder what backup software is saved: any virtual machine or virtual machine snapshot? and why?

  And for linux, it will export (copy) the snapshot of the machine the VCB proxy virtual of the SAN. If a single snapshot is stored to the proxy of VCB mount point, why VCB proxy must have enough space to contain the largest virtual machine?

  To clearify:

  In the world of VMware ESX, a snapshot is the same as the 'entire virtual machine' as you say. It's just the disks 'frozen' in a State of know. VCB can then move up and back up this disk (or copy it to the VCB proxy) while the virtual machine is placing the changed data in the temporary file. Some people refer to this temporary file that the file 'snapshot', while the other, see you in the frozen file as the 'snapshot' file, and creates confusion for users/students. A 'snapshot' is simply the functionality described above.

  When the backup action is finalized, VCB tells vCenter to "remove the snapshot" which actually means that the data in the temporary file are merged with the 'frozen' disk that is then back 'defrosted' and put into live operation.

• VCB snapshot creation failed: Pre custom gel script failed - how to fix?

  On a VM I started getting this error of VCB:

  Error: Another error occurred: failed to create snapshot: gel prior custom script failed.

  I found several other discussions about this, with resolutions of filesystem suspend disabling and reinstalling the VMware Tools.

  The guest is a CentOS 5 VM. He has lots of free space. The LUN has enough free space. I tried to reinstall the VMware tools. I tried to create the script pre-anti-freeze, chmodding to 755, even tried to add a simple script ' exit 0' in so that he actually returned correct status of output. "

  Snapshots fine VM in Virtual Center. I can't turn off the setting to suspend as it is set automatically by Backup Exec and I don't see an option to turn it off. Adding to the config.js appears to have ignored.

  The full command that I use for testing that is generating the error is:

• Is it normal that luns appears in win2k3 VCB proxy device manager?

  Running Vsphere and VCB mounted windows 2003 with EMC cx500. Have zoned so that the vcb proxy can see all the san LUNS. I ran the DISKPART automount disable commands, but I see all my san LUNS appear in the Device Manager, and when I go to disk management, they have all posted, don't wait for someone to put in form by accident.

  Just curious to know if it is as expected and others see the same behavior.

  Definition of filesystemio_options parameter SETALL allows Direct IO and Async IO (support of e/s asynchronous on OCFS/OCFS2 and related parameters: filesystemio_options disk_asynch_io [432854.1 ID]).

  It seems that your file system doesn't support correctly or the other of these advanced options on IO.

• TV Toshiba 32L4363D - Home button / Search does not

  Hi all

  Since last year, we have a wonderful Toshiba TV "32L4363D". And in addition to it freezes from time to time we are very happy with it - until a few days ago.

  I've searched these forums so used the internet, but none of the descriptions mounted error my case or solutions did not help. Maybe I don't know what things are called, and if the "home button" is the right description.

  Our problem is that we can no longer access our records.   The TV is connected by WiFi or LAN (I tried both) to the internet, and in both cases, the network test succeeded. All entries are good too. I also did a re-installation of the TV without any change, not to mention I had to re-program all channels and it was a pain.
  Firmware is the most recent. I can't really tell when the problem occurred for the first time, or what was the trigger, because we do not use this option so often. Maybe since the last update of the firmware, but I can really tell.
  I also unplugged it for a few minutes and started it television in different configurations as well (with or without attached USB, with or without cable, with or without internet...). Nothing helps.

  The problem is still persistent? If so, the Cloud connection cannot be established for reasons unknown. Can post you a picture of the screen that is displayed when you press the 'Cloud' (one in the middle with a home in)? Is there a message to come?

  I have a new HD but cannot set up encryption with system preferences. After ten minutes, I get the following error message:

  Apparently, I need to set up the HD in this way:

  • If you are using an external drive connected to your Mac, use disk utility to make sure that your backup disk is formatted in HFS + extended (journaled) and is the partition type GUID Partition Table (GPT)

  It is not an option for the HFS + and so I used; OS x EXTENDED (journaled). GUID is ok.

  Can someone let me know what I need to do.

  For TimeMachine at best to a partition only.

  Do it again if necessary, then disconnect, reconnect, Start Time Machine preferences and "select disk".
