VCenter 4.1: cluster it?

Hello

Is it possible to Vcenter 4.1 cluster (2 nodes for example)?

It was ok with VirtualCenter 2.5, under MSCS, but I don't see anything to do this for Vcenter 4.1...

Thank you

Concerning

In our environment, our mandate is HA or not go.  Clustering is always a must... but for some odd reason, this does not applies to vcenter because it is a virtual machine that is running in a Cluster HA.  As for heart rate its good only to have a standby vcenter server and accessible. It is not mirrored DB, which can still be a single point of failure depending on your configuration.

A few good insigts thereon:

http://virtualfuture.info/2009/01/VMware-vCenter-SQL-Server-best-practices/

Official KB in this issue:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1024051

VMware, said "Yes you can do it... but.

«You can choose to protect VMware vCenter Server with third parties including, but not limited to, MSCS (Microsoft Cluster Services) and VCS (Veritas Cluster Services) clustering solutions.» VMware does not certify these third party solutions. VMware will support all of the problems with an environment that uses third-party solutions from VMware vCenter Server downtime protection. However if your problem is considered to be related to the third party, clustering solution, VMware will send to our policy of third-party software. »

And of course yellow bricks Duncan has something to say about it as well:

http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/07/16/MSCS-clustered-vCenter-Server-4-x-not-supported/

Now Vmware HA - heartbeat is the method of SUPPORT ONLY...

See you soon,.

Now that the 1950's the mix so I created a new EVC cluster limited to Penryn, r.620 1950 and one are in the cluster. I want the other r.620 in the cluster, BUT my vCenter is running on it. Cannot migrate the vCenter for memebers cluster because it is exposed to the extensions of the processor beyond the limit of Penryn from the pole...

A little lost on what I can do here? Is there a 'stop invited, migrate to host X, boot prompt' type function I can use?

Assuming you are using a shared storage accessible from all hosts, vCenter Server VM power off, remove it inventory of the current host by connecting it directly to the host (using the vSphere client), and then connect to the host of the 'target', add the server vCenter back to inventory and turn it on.

VMware ESXi 5.0 and Vcenter is 5.5

    Hello

VCA mode is not required when the generations of CPU on the server is the same.

Adding your host in the cluster will work then.

He advised not to add servers to a cluster with mixed material config. A possible problem might be the Admission HA control for example settings. If you configure a number of hosts reserved for failover, you may encounter problems with your hosts do not match each other. Here, you define the ability to failover in percentage.

  • vCenter 5.5 cluster using Fibre Channel & MSCS (Win 2003)

    Hi all

I need to create a Cluster of 2003 of Windows (MSCS) as well as storage Fibre Channel shared on vCenter Server 5.5.  I need to work so that if a server crashes, the second server goes into action and support.

I have a two-node Windows 2003 R2 64 bit running on the same host.  Virtual machines are created with an operating system installed.  I use for Fibre Channel storage and I have created and attached 6 discs in thick eager set to zero.  I also created and configured two NICs (Public and private) on each node.  The shared SCSI Bus is set to "Virtual" on both nodes.  I managed to get the two nodes to market and both can see the 6 disks.  The disk configuration is identical between nodes.  All drive letters to even the SCSI virtual peripheral nodes (1:X).

I have not yet created the Windows cluster.  The problem is that, in node 1 when I create a folder in one of the attached disks, I don't see this folder in the same drive in node 2.  Is it a problem, a bad configuration or is this a normal behavior?

Are there any other setup that I should consider to make this work?

It's the doc that I follow:

    https://pubs.VMware.com/vSphere-55/topic/com.VMware.ICbase/PDF/vSphere-ESXi-vCenter-Server-55-Setup-MSCS.PDF

    Thanks much for any help!

Since you not yet configured the cluster, this is normal behavior. Go ahead and configure the cluster, then the software cluster will manage the discs... do what you try can cause data corruption.

And after the configuration of the cluster, take in mind that the drive will be online to a single node by time, as the Microsoft cluster is an active/passive cluster, in this way you will be able to see the disc and online with the letter assigned only on the active node.

  • Migration of one vCenter to another cluster

    Hello

We have a cluster under A vCenter which runs on the Cisco Nexus 1000v switch distributed. This cluster (all hosts of ESXi and VMs) must be migrated to VMs vCenter B keeping alive if possible.

I know that this host can be removed form the VirtualCenter with VM direct and added a new vCenter but not sure a distributed switch

    Looking for options / advice

    Our vCenter is 5.1

    Thank you in advance,

    Arkady

The switch really makes this difficult process.  You prefer to bet on it to make the following process:

1 take a source host network adapter and connect to a standard virtual switch

    2. move all the VMS to the switch stanard

    3. remove the second 1000v virtual switch interface (DISPLACEMENT market out virtual switch management)

    4. move the hosts with vm to new vCenter

5 Migtate of virtual machines to new switch

I know that this process sucks but the virtual switches are a construction of vCenter and will not go through vCenter.    The other option is to wait for vSphere 6.0 and new vMotion allows to solve this problem.  With vMotion new this should be a right click and wait for the process, assuming that the source and target ESXi host have the same VLAN.

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you

  • Move the vCenter to another cluster... How?

We rotate the camera 5.5.0 vcenter and need to move from a cluster with ESX 4.1.0 hosts in a cluster hosts ESXi 5.5.0.  Two clusters are in the same data center, but no space for common storage.

We have migrated all the old cluster to the new VM using vMotion.  It is now time for the vCenter himself.

How should I go about this?  Some downtime for vCenter is probably inevitable.

    Thank you... Lyle

With the help of Support, here's what I did:

-a clone of the vCenter VM for the cluster target & storage, but do not start the new virtual machine

-change the properties for the new virtual machine so its MAC address is the same as the old VM

-stop vCenter with its interface web admin

-with vSphere client connected to the source host, stop the guest OS (suse) of the former VM

-with customer vSpere connected to the destination host, turning on the new virtual machine

Thanks to all for the comments... Lyle

  • 5.1 VSA running vCenter and VSA cluster service

I read that you can run in 5.1 VSA vCenter who is also true on the VSA cluster service?

It seems that you can accomplish # 2 more easily.  You can simply

    1. Stop server old VCS
    2. Install the VCS on the new host application (without first adding the old address of VCS)
    3. Run "Reconfigure the network" in the VSA Manager, change address VCS to the host of the new address.
  • vCenter HA or Cluster with 2008?

Could someone put me in the right direction please. I would like to create a HA for vCenter, IE: die vCenterA, the vCenterB may use and access the same, is - it possible?

If so, what license need me and the SQL must be incluster mode or not?

    Thank you

    Hello.

Discover either VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat or the Reference Implementation: Clustering vCenter Server 4.0 using Microsoft Cluster Services document, which also has a link to the configuration document for Microsoft Cluster Service and Failover Clustering.

    Good luck!

  • Maintenance mode vcenter 6 active cluster Ha

    Hello

I have a cluster 6 version which consist of version 6 of 5 host, but when I put my hosts in Maintenance mode, it blocks just task to 2%, not had the license for DTH.

My config HA is turn off: power of VM allow operations that violate constraints of availability.

My vmotion works because if I move-vm by powercli, it works correctly.

Why HA mode do not move vm other hosts

    Thank you

To do this, you need DRS. HA will just restart VMs in case a physical host fails, but it won't live vMotion migrate virtual machines when you put a host into maintenance mode.

You must manually migrate all the virtual machines in this host if you put it in maintenance mode.

  • How to find vCenter virtual cluster large when the services are not running?

Does anyone have advice for locating vCenter in a cluster, when his services are not running?

For example, I have to restart vCenter and its network is having issues.  I need to go to the host ESX (i) is on and open the console to get to the virtual machine.  But to find that host is on can sometimes take a long time, because I have to log in to each HOST and see if it is the host where vCenter.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions to make this process easier?  It is not so important, but just curious to know what others might suggest.

    Thank you.

    I used PowerCLI and

    to connect-viserver esx1, esx2, esx3

connect to all the ESX(I) hosts and then run

Get - vm vCenterServerName | Select the name, the host

  • Disassembly of cluster 5.1 ESXi

    Hi all

I have a problem. I have cluster HA (without DRS) of two nodes, now I want to spend these two nodes to different vCenter (new) and to build a new three-node HA cluster there.

Can I disassemble my current HA cluster, remove nodes old vCenter, connect hosts to the new vCenter and build without disturbing HA cluster virtual servers hosted on these nodes vm?

    concerning

I guess that you have a HA cluster with 2 ESXi host & guests have some virtual machines running on them. Now you have a different vCenter & don't want to create a new cluster with 2 ESXi host to vCenter old + you want to add a new ESXi host.

Here is the recommended method to do the same thing:

    1. walk old vCenter HA cluster > right click > change settings > disable HA

    2. Once you disable HA on the old vCenter, HA agent will be out installed as well.

3 tell - the old cluster host or connect immediately to remove the cluster.

    4. create the new cluster > add all 3 hosts (2 removed from the old cluster + 1 new host) in the new cluster.

    5. activate HA on the new cluster > This will install HA agent on all hosts 3.

6 configure the cluster HA the way that suits you (admission control strategies, datastore pulses etc.)

Note: Your virtual machines always work on hosts that have been removed/disconnected from the old cluster. Please note that until you add to the new Vcenter cluster, there is chance that host disconnected can go down for some reason any & your virtual machines can cope in time to stop. That is why, first follow the new vCenter, create the cluster in advance > configure HA & then remove old cluster.

  • use a template on several clusters or vcenter instances

I have a model of vmware I want to use different and two different instances of vcenter on two groups. The two groups have access to the data store that the vm model is on. The model of the virtual machine is not on the second instance of vmware and cluster. I can just browse the data store and save the template by using the .vmtx file in the cluster and a new instance of vcenter? are there problems with the have registered in multiple vcenter instances at the same time? or do I need to copy it?

Yes, I tried this time on 2 vCenter 5.5 instances and it works very well.

Same model can be saved on 2 vCenter instances & VMs can be deployed from this template on the two vCenter (inside the cluster or standalone host computer).

  • Reinstall the vCenter without

    Hello.

I do not have much experience on VMware.

I have vmware vcenter, which was installed in the device. My current version of vCenter is 5.1, it runs on a virtual machine. It has a few errors and I decided to install the new version 5.5 of the device and remove current. It seems easy to upgrade.

I have also 3 servers in a cluster HA. It is very important for my business that do not stop the virtual machines in the cluster.

If I delete the virtual machine vcenter current, to install again, with the same IP address as old and other parameters, it will create the cluster again? HOE it will have an impact on the VMS?

    Please help me.

The virtual machine will not go down. they will function as they do now. After you add them to new vcenter and new cluster, you will be able to manage them centrally. so far, they work on their respective hosts.

    Hola,

Claro are realmente las back options son buenas las back first, lo suyo are the first that are only guaranteed going to you a poder hacer lo dedicate sin problema y What're realmente're Pena TR utilizamos los rocking distributed. A falta del vCenter segunda if Heartbeats are una opcion not solo as el tema no esta in tener mas tarjetas para add a los estándar sino en migrar hacía todo, Máquinas Office ago switches y tarjetas physical.

Cuando migra is a distributed switches lo suyo're keep the structure of standard por switches if any the we need of nuevo in algun momento. Been hay than planificarlo adecuadamente para realize the Migración of forma over-tightened, con minimum lost of servicio y no perder el the Red of management in any momento y tener siempre cierta unit, para ello lo mas seria por dar unit start spending has the Red of management con los rocking estándar antes touch nada in los distributed TR absolutamente todo lo tienes Los distributed. Think it una buena practica keep siempre con unit management red con switches estándar para siempre available tenerla in aunque is caiga el vCenter.

Respecto del procedure ten in a hotel than en cierto tipo Medio Ambiente, sober large las todo y con mas passes distributed el vCenter very crítico y hay than garantizar una 24 x 7 availability is often operaciones no should be necessary, only plots the propia should doing una Máquina fallos o parada del vCenter. In any case alguna vez no estara in available there para esos casos tenemos las comentadas options back.

  • Upgrade to vCenter U1 5.0 to 5.5 and vCenter Single Sign-On

    Hello

We have two vCenter 5.01 U1 linked by patterns related to our environment. We want to move to vCenter 5.5 now by using the single sign on Type Mulitsite. One vCenter Server's Active Directory domain Europe the other is NALA. These two domain belong to a single root domain. Can we use the sign on unique Type of Mulitsite in this scenario?

    Kind regards

    Savir

Yes that's why I mentioned the site... so, during installation of 5.5, you will create 2 sites.

"Each site is represented by a vCenter Single Sign-On cases, with a single Single Sign-On Server vCenter, or a cluster of high availability.
