Add Server ESXi in Vcenter 5.5 cluster with a different number of socket
I have 5 nodes compute node IBM Flex System X 240 8737T7M with 2 CPU Socket in a VMS Cluster with identical hardware and now I need to add 1 more IBM System Flex X 240 node calculate 8737T7M with 1 CPU Socket in the same cluster.
Here are other points: -.
VCA Mode is disabled in this cluster.
5 existing and new are the same model of CPU and memory is of the same capacity.
Only the difference is 5 knots with 2 sockets and another node is 1. Please notice is recommended and he face any technical problem.
VMware ESXi 5.0 and Vcenter is 5.5
Hello
VCA mode is not required when the generations of CPU on the server is the same.
Adding your host in the cluster will work then.
He advised not to add servers to a cluster with mixed material config. A possible problem might be the Admission HA control for example settings. If you configure a number of hosts reserved for failover, you may encounter problems with your hosts do not match each other. Here, you define the ability to failover in percentage.

Hosts in cluster with a different number of physical processors
Hello
Don't think it would be a problem but just validate...
Can I have a cluster where the hosts have a different number of physical processors. All processors will be the same make\model\speed. Also, it will be only a temporary configuration.
Thank you
Hello.
This configuration is very good.
Good luck!

ESXi with a different number of CPUs
Hello
I was wondering if we can have more in a vmware cluster managed by vcenter 4.1:
2 or more servers esxi 4.1 with a different number of cpu
for example an esxi has 2 cpu and there are 4 cpu
Or it is advisable to have the same number of CPUs on all esxi hosts in a cluster.
Note: All are same active VCA processor family
Thank you
Without doubt, it is recommended, but I don't see a reason to not do so, especially because it's too easy to add 4, 6 or 8 processors... addition of mix n match cpu / cores can become a standard with all this different configuration of the CPU.
You should not have problems.

Hello
I hope someone can help, I'll through in circles!
I am using ESXi for years, but always as unique hosts. Recently, I obtained a license for vCenter 6 essential elements and put on the creation of a laboratory.
I have two ESXi hosts, a Mac Mini (192.168.1.0/24) and a Dell PowerEdge (192.168.10.0/24), the two v6 ESXi running. vCenter v6 is running on a virtual computer on the Dell Poweredge server and works. Can be connect/license/administer etc. Also, I added successfully to the Mac Mini to the new data center.
However, I can't add the Dell Poweredge server. Whenever I pass by the host process add I get the following:
"Unable to contact the specified host (hostname.domain.local). "The host may not be available on the network, may have a network configuration problem, or that the management on this host services may not respond"
Also, when I have RDP on the vCenter virtual hosting machine I ping the server Poweredge ESXi by IP, host name and the FULL domain name, but I can not connect to it via vSphere Client. However, if I use my laptop (192.168.1.0/24 range GOLD 192.168.10.0/24) I can correctly connect the Poweredge ESXi server.
Can I add a host ESXi, vCenter vCenter is running on this host?
Any help would be appreciated!
Adam
Can I add a host ESXi, vCenter vCenter is running on this host?
Yes, you can, but you must ensure that the appropriate network ports are open between ESXi and vCenter. VCenter Server both the ESXi (to PowerEdge) are running on the same subnet?

Pass a vCenter Server ESXi to another with dvSwitch
Hello
I am actually preparing a migration of vCenter and have a few questions.
I'm migrating a cluster esxi 5.5 to one vCenter to another. The esxi server are configured with a distributed VM networking switch...
now, I would like to know if I can export the dvswitch configuration and import it on the new vcenter disconnect and reconnect esxi for the new vcenter Server?
in it's kb article is also to bring all virtual machines to a standard switch: KB VMware: ESX/ESXi host with vDS passing a vCenter Server to another
what I really need to move virtual machines first to a switch standard or is - this just for safety reasons? because I bring the configuration real the new vCenter dvswitch so it would stay the same dvswitch configuration?
Perhaps it is - can anyone help me...
Hello
I just wanted to say that you MUST first migrate all the dvswitch to the standard switch exchanges!
If you add the esxi with the distributed switch, the dvswitch disappeared and the virtual machines have no connection to network more

Hello
2 years ago I had the training for 5.5 ESXi and vCenter Server 5.5 - I wonder if that would satisfy the requirement and allows me to pass the exam VCP6-VTC? Or should I stick with the VTC VCDP5 only?
Have you taken after school.
5.5 vSphere install, configure and manage.
If so, please attend vSphere: what's new [5.5 to 6.0]
It is a 2 day course that will allow you to take the exam VCP6-VTC.
Otherwise, take VCP550 review and upgrade to VCP6-VTC in taking 2V0 - 621D.

Add a new table to the server ESXi 4.1
Hello
I try to add a new table on a server ESXi 4.1.0. Is it possible to build the table and add it without restarting the host? The server is an HP ML350 G5. I installed ESXi 4.1 on a hard drive, but I did not install HP driver packages. Is there something I could install from ESXi that would give me the features of configuration of the berries, etc. ?
Thanks for any help,
Stem
Although it is possible (but unsupported) to install tools RIAD on ESXi (see VMware experience before: how to run the CLI of the ACU online HP for Linux in ESXi 4.x) you might have to restart the host still. Reading messages earlier, it would be also better to add the new table by using the ACU (Array Configuration Utility) rather than the ORCA (Option ROM Configuration for arrays). Of these posts, it looks like ORCA could possibly reorganize RAID sets, resulting in a non bootable host.

Add ESXi to vCenter automatically?
Hello
Is it possible to add an ESXi host to an implementation of vCenter automatically and change memory allocation reservation of VMs, etc.?
What I try to achieve is to have an implemenatation base supports X users and adding hosts to expand the user base.
You can do this with PowerCLI
C:\PS>Add-VMHost 10.23.113.24 -Location Datacenter -User root -Password pass
To define the limits and reservations of CPU/memory, you can change this script. Currently I use to turn off the limits
get-vm | %{Get-View $_.ID} | %{ if(($_.Config.CpuAllocation.Limit -ne -1) -or ($_.Config.MemoryAllocation.Limit -ne -1)){ Write "VM name: " $_.Name write " CPU limit: " $_.Config.CpuAllocation.Limit write " Memory limit: " $_.Config.MemoryAllocation.Limit $spec = new-object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec; $spec.memoryAllocation = New-Object VMware.Vim.ResourceAllocationInfo; $spec.memoryAllocation.Shares = New-Object VMware.Vim.SharesInfo; $spec.memoryAllocation.Shares.Level = "normal"; $spec.memoryAllocation.Limit = -1; $spec.CPUAllocation = New-Object VMware.Vim.ResourceAllocationInfo; $spec.CpuAllocation.Shares = New-Object VMware.Vim.SharesInfo; $spec.CpuAllocation.Shares.Level = "normal"; $spec.CpuAllocation.Limit = -1; Get-View($_.ReconfigVM_Task($spec)) } }

vCenter Converter Windows 2003 Server ESXi VM keeps failing
I'm trying to convert a Windows 2003 server to a virtual machine on a server ESXi. I use the option of VMware Infrastructure. My Server works well, and the authentication is successful. However, 1% it still fails with the error:
FAILED: A general error occurred: server closed connection after 0 bytes of response read. < io_obj p:0x03f32124, h:
804, < tube "\\.\pipe\vmware-converter-worker-soap" >, < pipe '\\.\pipe\vmware-converter-worker-soap' > >
Also, here is the log file
Help out me?
I had done. It seems that if you have any software running on a computer backup, it is best to remove or disable. I also cleaned the registry with ccleaner. After all this, the converter has exported the disc in a VM ESXi without problem.

Add ESXi4 host to vCenter 5.5 has failed, host do not support VSANS
Hi all. I have to build a laboratory to test running with vCenter 5.5 and a server Dell PE 1950 ESXi 4. I try to add the ESXi 4 host to vCenter 5.5 (towards a test cluster), however, the process of adding a host failed with the error message "host"x.x.x.x"does not support VSANS". If anyone of you experience this problem, and is there a way around this problem? I understand VSAN is a new feature on ESXi 5.1 and later, but I don't expect you to stop me adding ESXi 4 on the cluster... Thank you.
My bad. I thought about it. I activated the VSANS on the cluster; Once I disabled the option to VSAN on the cluster, I am able to add the host ESXi 4...

Need help to change a creation of VM PowerCLI script to support host ESXi and vCenter
I have the below script that I created with much help from LucD - thank you! This has served me well for my lab procedures rip - replace so far. This script works when I run it against my single ESXi host when it is not connected to my server vCenter, but it throws errors when I run this script when the host is connected to vCenter and it fails to implement the controller SCSI Paravirtual. I think when the host is under the control of vCenter that changed some of the settings.
If I point to the vCenter instead of ESXi host, I still get the same problem. In addition, I would also add the ability to create virtual machines in pools of different resources of a cluster of vSphere. My name in data center's LAB and my Cluster is called Local with pools of resources like TestLab, etc. see Horizon.
Ideas please!

The Destination parameter in the cmdlet Copy-DatastoreItem takes an object that specifies a folder or file on the data store.
Take a look at KB2001041, he explains the cmdlet and parameter more in detail.

Hi all, I'm new to vmware.
I can see most of my esxi hosts are version 5.5 and few are with version 5.1.
How update 5.1 to 5.5.
I need to put in the mode of maintenance, and after that please guide me. If I put in maintenance mode the esxi host is removed from the cluster.
Screenshots would be appreciated.
2. I am using HP Proliant Servers. one of my server esxi does not support version 5.5 until I update its firmware. With the help of HP ILO I put firmware update, but I have to put in maintenance mode when I update the firmware on the server
Hello
1. download the required ESXi image.
2. Select the host required in the vCenter > Update Manager
3. click on view images Admin and click on ESXi
4 import image ESXi and navigate to the directory where is this image > download
5. the wizard asks you to provide a database name, to give a base name (for example, host_upgrade)
6. go back to the view of compliance and enter the host in maintenance mode. If the host is in maintenance mode, no VM must reside on it. The host be removed from the cluster when it is in maintenance mode.
7. click on join, and then select only this base line created containing 5.5 ESXi ISO
8. click on Scan, compliance status must come as non-compliant. If she starts as incompatible then restart this ESXi host and perform the analysis again
9. click on take and give a name to the task and keep the default values and complete the upgrade.
Two things here:
You must ensure that your ESXi 5.5 is supported on the hardware. You can use Vmware Hardware Compatibility List to verify that
VMware.com/go/HCl
Once the hardware is compatible for ESXi 5.5, then you can proceed to the update above.
In addition, you must put the host in maintenance during the firmware update mode.
