vCenter and SQL server Virtual Hardware Upgrade stuck

vSphere 5.5

I updated all my hardware vm to version 10. Everything went a lot except for vCenter and the VM of MSSQL. They both say the upgrade (successful), but I am unable to vmotion the vms anywhere because of the following error:

A general error occurred:

The destination host is not compatible with the version of the material to which the virtual machine is scheduled to be upgraded. In order to proceed with the operation, regular virtual computer compatibility update must be disabled.

I did the following:

-stop the two virtual machines

-restart of the host

-removed from the inventory of the host and added to another

The following screenshot shows the message of success on both virtual machines, and it will not go a way. It is not present on any of my other virtual machinesScreen Shot 2014-05-09 at 12.38.39 PM.png

Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Thanks for sharing the update.

Could he please check if below lines exist in the respective vmx files of virtual machine.

virtualHW.scheduledUpgrade.state = 'done '.

virtualHW.scheduledUpgrade.when = "safe".

If so, power off of the respective virtual machine, make a backup of the vmx file and remove these lines from the active file, after which I am convinced that this issue should not be considered.

Or would it be best to try to get half of the hosts and all the computers upgraded this time and the other half next time?  We have not all hosts the value automatically vmotion machines so that they remain in place unless you have an accident.  In addition, in this scenario is any problem to launch half esx4 and the other half to esxi5?

There is no problem.  Your guests will not be able to take advantage of some of the new features added with vHardware 8, but as they are upgraded they will be.

y at - it no problem running esx4 half and half to esxi5

No worries there, too.  The only thing that you must do is upgrade to VMFS5.  The bed and breakfast vSphere5 no cannot be able to see a LUN VMFS5, but everyone can see and use a LUN VMFS3

  • vCenter and SQL 2005 Express on the same physical machine

I'm new on the VMware environment and am a little concerned about my VMware infrastructure and design.  I have 3 boxes physical accommodation 15 virtual servers.  I have a 4th server that hosts the database SQL and vcenter.  I am wondering what are my chances of having vCenter and SQL 2005 express installed on the same box?  That suggest VMware as best practices concerning this configuration?  If this configuration is ok, what are my options to protect myself in case the box with vCenter and the SQL database dies?  Thank you

VMware sets a limitation to 5 guests and 50 wen invited you use SQL Express. I run it with 6 guests and 48 guests (incl. models) on the same machine as the server vcenter. That's not what I want to keep and we will change to a standard SQL 2005 on a separate server from SQL (which we had with SQL 2000 and before VI3).

But I didn't have one problem with this configuration, again.

With both on the same server may lead to a conflict: SQL 2005 requires IIS but vCenter uses ports. So I installed it but disabled.

I think also that separating the two tracks faster that have it all on the same box.

  • Number of databases such as Oracle and SQL Server in the same application ADF

    Hello

In my application, I need to use two different databases such as Oracle and SQL Server. There are screens that I need to develop in the ADF where I need to involve fields of the tables in these two different databases. I just want to know - is it possible to do so in application of the ADF?

Or to create a sort of link between these databases in the backend? Then create a view object involving some distributed SQL queries. What can I do with this type of request than anything? I mean, can I use the two insert or update operation using this VO?

Or y at - it another way to do this?

Please help, help here would be really appreciated. I've been stuck with this problem for a while now. I did search our forums for the same problem, but was not able to find a reliable solution.

    Thank you
    Vijay

It's still not clear to me if you need two db tables in a query, or a transaction.
If this is the case, your best option (to my knowledge) is to use a db link. in this way, you only need to access (for example the oracle db) and can access the objects from the other data from the oracle database.
    I don't understand
    >
    (3) a model project with a meeting of the two datasource. I selected a data source and created OT and VO. When I have selected a different data source and select tables to create VO and EO and finished but these EO and VO is displayed in project. >

    (2) If you need to link data from these two dbs you can not use this approach (see the note at the top of the post)

  • For TMS Win2008 Server and SQL Server client access licenses?

Where, I read that the TMSXE interface requires a CAL on the Exchange Server.  What I can't seem to locate is all information about client access licenses how are required to Win2008 R2 Server Standard Edition and SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard.  Is there a reference document that I'm missing with this information.  It seems that according to Microsofts definitions, you might need a CAL by user device and/or managed web that connects to the web interface.

    Can someone clarify the situation?

    Hello world

So should put the closure of this thread, I have now clarified what follows when it comes to TMS and MS licenses:

Users and administrators to connect to TMS authenticate AD, the server that hosts the TMS must be allowed to support authenticated connections. Don't authenticate TMS Managed/configure with AD devices via the web server. As a result, and as managed devices does not authenticate against IIS with AD login, these types of connections don't require licenses. Only users who connect to the Web site would be.

The issue of Exchange and SQL are similar, that is, authenticated connections how are made?

Of MSDS, all connections to SQL server use the same authenticated account, by default uses a SQL login.  Web site users are not authenticated to SQL Server. Therefore, and in the case of an external SQL Server, this would be equal to one.

When communicating with Exchange, all connections are through a unique service account. Created for managed systems the mailboxes are not connected by users or MSDS for normal operation. As a result, and as with an external SQL Server, this would be also equal to one.

    Hope that clarifies completely now

  • PDF IFilter support for 8.1 Windows and SQL Server 2014

    Hello

We use Adobe PDF iFilter Version 64 11.0.01 (here: https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5542) full-text support for PDF files on SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 2012. This works also on Windows Server R2 from 2012 to 2014 of SQL-Server even if both is not listed in the list of the applications/OS supported. But it does not work for the combination of 8.1 to Windows and SQL-Server, 2014.

Can anyone provide a solution to make it work for this combination, or know when it will be officially supported?

    Kind regards

  • Unlike char in ORACLE and SQL SERVER

    Hello gurus,

I tried to querying data from Oracle to sql server through linked server, but get me an error! set length corresponds to the error! I know there are CHAR data type in sql server and thus as in oracle.

But when I use the CAST FUNCTION with CHAR it works fine
    -- error code

      select * from openquery( linkoracle11
               select  col1, col2, col3 from test_table )

    -- say col3 char(1)   -- data type
    ---

    -- working code

      select * from openquery ( linkoracle 11
               select  col1, col2, cast (col3 as char(1)) as col_3 from test_table )
I was wondering, what is the difference between oracle and sql server for the CHAR data type?

    The gurus of the idea?

    Thank you

What is the error you get?

What is the characters in database and NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS game on your Oracle system?

    SELECT *
      FROM v$nls_parameters
     WHERE name LIKE '%CHARACTERSET';

    SQL> SHOW PARAMETER nls_length_semantics;

What is the character set of data in SQL Server?

If your local database is a variable length character set (like UTF8) and NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS is set to (default) BYTES, a char (1) allocate 1 byte of storage which may not be sufficient for a single character. The receiving application may need to allocate a buffer with 3 times more many bytes as there are characters in order to ensure that it will be able to process the result. I don't know why add an implicit CAST that would change, but since we are several levels removed from the code to figure out how large a buffer to allocate, it is not very surprising.

  • Sort of the differences between Oracle and SQL Server

    Hi all

This question is linked by both Oracle and SQL Server

I have a requirement where I want to compare 2 tables line by line. A table is in Oracle and other table in SQL Server

And suppose that both tables do not have a primary key. Now when I sort records by using the order by clause for a column, then-

Rows with null values in that column of Oracle are placed in the background.
When that rows with null values in the same column in SQL Server are placed right at the top.

How can I make one of them to behave like any other.

My only goal is to have same order of lines in Oracle and SQL Server tables so that I can compare line by line.

    YADQ: Yet another Doc Question

    Can you please avoid them?

Take your SQL reference manual, search for the ORDER BY clause and notice that it has
NULL FIRST or LAST values NULL values.

  • vCenter Server and SQL server affinity

Is there a best practice for the rules of the affinity between a vCenter server and a SQL server VM in the same cluster?

    Thank you

I think that separation would be mainly for safety.  Maybe to keep the SQL Server in a broadcast domain separate servers so that they do not receive all the Windows usual chatter.

Most of the environments I've worked have been small enough to either do not have more than a few tens of machines virtual hosts/250, or overworked staff that cannot be dedicated to security, s/n, etc., and the decision was taken to run the DB in SQL Server on the same server as the application of vCenter to reduce the complexity and rely on the host/network/SQL Server security and properly locking to the bottom of vCenter.

As I said before, there is a good chance you won't notice a difference, performance wise, anyway.

  • Creation of the DSN that is needed to connect the 5.1 vCenter to SQL Server

I'm looking for a simple process, step by step create the DSN that is needed to connect the vCenter Server 5.1 to an already configured SQL database.

It must be simple, still usable by a person who is not a database administrator.  He should assume no knowledge of database.

It should be usable on 64 - bit Windows 2008 Server R2 OS when connecting to a SQL Server 2008 R2 database.

It must include ALL the options I have to configure when configuring the DSN, so that later I can run vCenter Server 5.1 installation and Breeze the by.

Screenshots would be too great, but if you have a step by step, that would be great.  Some thing that you can go totally illiterate crew of database and they can cross step by step.  Docs from VMware do not give enough details and do not point to a good reference.

    Hello

Click on Control Panel > administrative tools > Data Sources (ODBC).

Open ODBC connection, select the system DSN tab, and then click Add

Select SQL native client, click on finish

He will ask DSN name, enter the name you want for VC DSN.

Then enter the address database of VC.

Then it will ask for authentication, select which option of your choice, as based on windows or SQL based authentication.

Then click Next and select the correct database that has been created for VC in drop-down option

    Finishing and test the connection.
