vCenter converter 5.1 - just P2V to esxi 5.1 but stop virtual machine by iteself
I P2V a machine using vCenter converter 5.1 and migrated to 5.1 ESXi host. If conversion/migration is finished without error. Now when I turn on the computer, virtual it stops up to the login screen and it goes on and on. Not able to understand what is happening. I veried resources assigned these looks good.
Some successful how to enter safe mode. UPS service was guilty. Disabled it and also default actions has changed for this service of "Non-action" for all three incidents.
No problems now and new virtual machine works very well without any problem

ESXi 5.0 as a virtual machine
For pure and for training automatic tests, I installed VMware ESXi 5.0 as a virtual machine inside a VMware ESXi 5.0 host (physical).
How can I configure the network interface to allow the VM ESXi?
Is there a best practices document to configure VMware ESXi as a virtual machine?
Concerning
Marius
Basically, all you have to do is to allow mode promiscuity on vSwitch physical hosts, which you connect virtual ESXi hosts. Make sure that virtual ESXi hosts are configured with the virtual "E1000" NETWORK card adapters

I have read and found some documents on ESXi.
According to the documents, I know that ESXi free version does not support some advanced virtual machine configurations and does not support write to ESXi host permission. But when I download ESXi from vmware.com, I can't find the free version. He will always be a trial of the licensed version edition because I can always do the configuration of start and stop virtual machines via vSphere Client installation. I can also run scripts (lamw) pl in vMA to stop the ESXi host (authorization to write ok?)
Then I confused. How can I get the really free version of ESXi? Or will the free version after 60 days of evaluation?
Start/stop above configuration is in vSphere Client via 'Configuration'-> "start/stop VM"-> "Properties"... «-> "Allow the virtual computers start and stop automatically with the system" actions setting and stop virtual machines can be configured to "comments"turn off computer"or"Suspend".» Can any body tell me if it's supported by ESXi free edition?
Is the free version of vSphere Client too? Because when I use the vSphere Client, he told me that I have 60 days of evaluation. This confused me again. I think that vSphere Client is always free, am I right?
Any suggestion or advice is much appreciated. _
Micky
Configuration of start and stop virtual machines is available with the free version and licensed, with the free version you would be configured everything via vSphere Client, where as with a licensed version, you can optionally use scripts to configure it and also issue restarts/stops using scripts.
Second, shutdownHostViaSOAPAPICall.pl for the version licensed and free of ESX (i), this script will work in both free and licensed because it uses direct SOAP calls emulating the vSphere Client communication. Take a look at the documentation for details, but this of course is not supported by VMware.

ESXi host have not of virtual machines when connected through vCenter
Hi all
I am facing a problem with 1 ESXi hosts. All other hosts are working properly.
All hosts are managed by vCenter 5.1 VM. When I select this problematic host in vCenter and click on the virtual computers tab, it does not display anything other than a blank page. Then, it throws an error saying that the object has been deleted or has not completely created. The screenshot of the error popup is attached.
However, if I connect directly to the host through the VI client, it does not throw the error and I can see the virtual machines it. If I have vmotion the vms during this host, I do not see these virtual machines via vcenter but I connect directly to the host and I can see the virtual machines. They work very well.
What could be the cause of this problem.
Thank you
AG
I would try restart the management agent on the host troubled or removing of vCenter and time.

My Datacenter configured as follows:1. physical switch connected to 3 physical server.
vCenter Server IP: 192.168.10.10
two physical hosts ESXi: IP: 192.168.10.11/12.
2. my laptop connected to the physical network, IP: 192.168,10.100.
3. my two physical hosts configured with a Standard vSwitcher0, VMNIC0, portgroup MYLAN uplink vLan ID = 162, vmk0 vLan ID = 162.
4. I created two nested ESXi vHost on the two physical host, assigned 192.168.10,101/102 IP, gateway 192.168.10.1
5 standard vSwitch0 on two vHost, only NETWORK VM portgroup with ID vLan by default = 0.
6. I have create computer virtual the virtual server nested and assigned to the VM using VM NETWORK, also assigned the IP address: 192.168.10.201, gateway 192.168.10.1
But my VM, I cannot ping 192.168.10.1, also I can not ping the virtual machine (x.x.x.201) from my laptop.
I can ping my vHost nested two of my laptop, can also connect to the console of the virtual computer through my vHost nest.
my virtual world, my network is configured as it IS (external swith marking).
my world physical host, my network is configured as a VST (virtual switch tagging).
My Setup must in principle be correct, but it does not work.
I am a newcomer to the world of VMWare nested. I'm appreciated for any suggestions and help.
The vSwitch on the physical host must be configured to allow the promiscuous mode and forged passes.

vSwitch ESXi 5.1 workaround to virtual machines (direct access to the network)
Hello world!
I have a server running properly the 5.1 ESXi hypervisor and got inside the physical grid active router with DHCP. How can I configure the vSwitch on ESXi 5.1 work not managed on the network, without VLAN and have direct access to the network?
Just to clarify, I would like to first of all virtual machines VMware Workstation works - if it is possible to run several virtual machines and define all NICS (Network Interface Card) as connected by a bridge, that is to say. Each VM gets the specific configurations of IP to the external router.
Since now, thank you very much for the help!
Best regards
Eduardo
With ESXi the vSwitches work comparable to Bridged networking, so there is really nothing special to do.

ESXi 3.5 Update 4 virtual machines cannot boot from ISO image stored on the server
Ok
If I have one of my virtual machines of ESXi configured to use an ISO image sitting on my server ESXi, they cannot boot from this image. This is after you click "ESC" during startup in order to change the startup CD-ROM. I have this a known issue, or I'm just doing something wrong? If I have the vms use an ISO sitting on my desktop (using Infrastructure Client) it works fine.
Or the answer is even simpler, make sure I connect at power on.
OK, Yes! But some of the things we take for granted... haha...

ESXi 4.1 upgrade to ESXi 5.5 while all virtual machines and data warehouses
We have two servers ESXi 4.1.0 348481 (Essentials) and we need to upgrade to ESXi 5.5 for support of Windows Server R2 2012. We intend to use the interactive upgrade. We want to ensure that the virtual machine is preserved. More precisely VMFarm001 where ESXi is installed in the same data store as VMServer1. VMServer1 is our largest server and cannot be migrated to another data store easily because we are not allowed for vMotion.
The following layout
VMFarm001
Dell PowerEdge R710
Data store:
Storage1 - 1.36 TB
VMServer1 - MS Server 2003
Install ESXi
Storage2 - 1.82 TB
VMServer2 - MS Server 2008 R2
VMServer3 - MS Server 2008 R2
VMFarm002
HP ProLiant ML350 G5
Data store:
Storage1 - 95GB
Install ESXi
ISOs
Storage2 - 1.82 TB
VMServer4 - MS Server 2008 R2
VMServer5 - MS Server 2008 R2
I have a feeling I'm worried for nothing given that option during the ESXi upgrade and keep the VMFS datastore.
Thank you
Yes, that's correct.
I recently finished the upgrade of lots of stand-alone hosts ESXi 4.1 (with local storage only) to 5.1 and all were successful. The same process applies to 5.5, so you shouldn't have a problem with preservation of VMFS data warehouses (and all virtual machines).

Configuration of IPSec in VMWare ESXi can be applied to virtual machines running?
Hello
I have an operating system running inside VMWare ESXi 5.1. Let's call is "MyLinux". It is a modified version of Linux which does not support IPSec. So I try to get VMWare to manipulate IPSec for MyLinux.
I used esxcli orders to successfully create configurations for IPSec between VMWare itself and other systems.
However, I wonder if I can use the same esxcli commands to configure IPSec between MyLinux and other systems? In my tests, VMWare does not perform tunneling IPSec data between the running machines and other virtual systems.
It is an illustration of the configuration I created for MyLinux in VMWare. I also have a security policy that is not visible.
Name Source address Destination address State SPI Mode Encryption Algorithm, integrity algorithm to life
-------- ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- ------ ----- --------- -------------------- ------------------- --------
MyLinuxToExternalSA MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS EXTERNAL. Mature IPv6.ADDRESS infinity 0 x 300 transport 3des-cbc hmac-sha2-256
ExternalToMyLinuxSA EXTERNAL. IPv6.ADDRESS infinite mature MyLINUX.IPv6.ADDRESS of hmac-sha2-256 0 x 256 transport 3des-cbc
When I captured a trace TCP ping between MyLinux and the external system, MyLinux never sent the IPSec packets. Everything was sent in the clear. This suggests that VMWare does not apply the rule for MyLinux, but I would like to confirm. Thank you.
Kwabena
When you configure IPSec on ESXi, you sécuriserez the VMkernel traffic, not the virtual machine... If you want to protect the traffic of the virtual machine, you will need to enable IPSec on guest operating system.
Here is more information on IPSec on ESXi: VMware KB: IPv6 and IPsec configuration on vSphere ESX and ESXi 4.1, 5.x ESXi

config of memory in esxi with a hyper-v virtual machine on.
First of all, Thanks for the help.
I set up a Home Lab with ESXi 5.1.
J’ai several Linux machines. J’ai a virtual machine Windows Server 2012 Hyper -v.
I would like to know what the optimal parameters in order to maximize the 32 GB of RAM to the virtual machine Windows. ()when I use this machine do not use any other ESXi virtual machine)
J’ai not clear that if administered dynamically memory for this VM in ESXi when you manage Hyper v, dynamic Management of memory will be use all the RAM.
Thank you for everything, I hope that I have explained. How much memory is your ESXi has? If you have not set up a special configuration for the virtual Windows machine, the ESXi Server uses the common techniques of overcommitment with the virtual machine. If you have more than 32 GB of RAM on your box of ESXi, you'll never overcommited (assuming that your other virtual machines are turned off). So the ESXi will give access to the physical to your Windows virtual machine memory as long as she asks for.
You can also ensure the physical to the virtual machine by using reservations memory, if you want to.

An external NIC on ESXi 5.1 and a virtual machine
Hello!
I have a dedicated server that has a single network adapter with an IP address from the data center. Installed on the server ESXi 5.1.
And also the VM deployed, I need to publish on the Internet through the IP address. But because the ESXI host uses this IP address, I don't understand how to do it?
Best regards, DmitryIt does not help if the host is connected directly to the Internet. You cannot have the same IP address on two different systems. The only way to do it with a unique IP address is having something of a NAT device in front of the host that forwards traffic - based ports, for example - to the host's IP address or the IP address of the virtual machine.

Hey all,.
Evaluating 60A expired on my ESXi (5.0.0.623860) host which runs a couple of virtual machines. Virtual machines have been setup to autostart when the host said, but now the assessment is complete, the virtual machine no longer autostart.
In addition, I ran a simple scipt using PowerCLI. This was shot issue a stop host command, which in turn stop the gracfully VMs, then stop the host: the script command were:
Connect-VIServer -server mysESXiHost -User root -Password xxxxxxx Stop-VMHost mysESXiHost -Confirm:$false -force
If I run these commands from the PowerCLI confirmation, I see the following error message:
Stop-VMHost : 08/12/2012 17:01:52 Stop-VMHost fault.RestrictedVersion .summary At line:1 char:12 + Stop-VMHost <<<< mysESXiHost -Confirm:$false -force + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (:) [Stop-VMHost], RestrictedVersi on + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Client20_VmHostServiceImpl_ShutdownVmHost_ViErro r,VMware.VimAutomation.ViCore.Cmdlets.Commands.StopVMHost
What I read, I thought that current same ESXi of execution in the free license must always let these things happen, or am I wrong?
Chris

U4 Will ESXi 3.5 see a virtual machine created with u3
I have added a second hard drive for my newly built u4 ESXi 3.5 installation. The player has virtual machines created in u3. U4 sees the datastore2 drive and the files inside. Still don't recognize them as virtual computer. How to see the virtual machine on the second HD u4?

the page you posted contains all relevant information of the Virtual Machine. In addition, all files are 0.00 KB in size.
I don't know what to tell you on this one... You may be out of luck.

ESXi on SD card and virtual machines on a NAS raid-6, performance?
Hello!
I'm planning an ESXi with HP Proliant DL380 G6 environment, which I already have.
The server has an internal port SD card and according to this article , it is supported to run ESXi from an internal SD card.
1ST QUARTER
Someone hwo as tried this, what of the downside to this, except the redundancy on the SD card. I had a hard time finding comments on this
Q2
I intend to run virtual machines on a NAS via iSCSI, (thecus N8800, have another thread on the subject to know if it would work or not here)
With this config I don't need any HD in the DL380.
However, I do not know if a good high-performance NAS is good enough for my VMs and if maybe I need to run the OS on internal disks with higher performance.
First of all, my plan was to run the OS partitions on a raid with internal 10 k SAS drives. And have all the data on the NAS partitions.
But since I'm the new implementation of ESXi on SD or USB I think about the ability to run the DL380 without HD
But, as noted above, is it possible that there is performance enough for that.
Having in mind that my environment is and will be VERY LOW, we speak up seven windows server 2008 and totally 150 users.
But I still haven't any idea if theres a chance that my 7 virtual machines running windows server 2008 will be capped at a lot by running NAS. The Nas will take place with eight 7.2 k RPM Sata disks, they are high of preforming sata drives, but not yet a SCSI raid. I have the ability to run a raid 10 on it instead of 6 and I will consider and try how much better performance, he gives me. 1 TB sata drives are 70% less expensive than the 300 GB 2.5 '' SAS 10 k disks.
Yes, there is a good reason THAT SATA is less expensive than SAS. SATA drives do not have the same command line than to use SAS drives, more the bottom of basket on SATA relies on the CPU, SAS can unload it on DEMAND. The discs themselves seem to be competitive, but they are a far cry from the performance of SAS/SCSI, you get good performance until you start to make the e/s simultaneous sessions and hit heavily then you'll start to see performance degrades
If do you some tests and that you are happy with it, still great. I really hope it works well. RAID 10 can be a good idea with SATA, which can help to compensate for this loss of performance.
The PIN number is the best way to get the best performance, the physical drives of player throw you into a RAID of any kind the better you will be.
Seagate Barracuda ES. 2-1 TB - 3.5 "- SATA-300 - 7200 tours min - lunch: 32 MB"
vs SAS 15 K (that's 2 x the IOPS/sec)

Is it possible to use the box that esxi is installed as a virtual machine?
I have correctly installed ESXi and established virtual machines using the VI Client. The virtual machines are installed with the operating system and on balance, everything works as advertised.
PC, access the box of ESXi are far enough away from the real server. Is it possible to have a vm residing with the box of ESXi machine on ESXi box?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. This is new territory for me.
Ken
Hey Ken. Good job getting everything setup and operation. Unfortunately you cannot 'see' a guest of the ESXi server. I suggest you bring a laptop with you on the server.
If you have found the following information useful please consider giving points and or the marker said.
See you soon
