vCenter database disk space

Hello

We have vcenter database (SQL 2005) on a computer separate virtual as the vcenter server. Vcenter database drive currently has 1.5 GB of available space.

What is the best way to ensure that we are not running out of disk space on the unit containing the vcenter database?

Thank you

assuming that your DB is not on the system (c) partition, but rather on a separate data partition, you can use Windows diskpart to extend the volume without interruption to the BONE.

Can we assume that the VM SQL has different HARD drives that are presented to each volume in the operating system?  If so, you can increase the size of the HARD drive in the vSphere Client, then run diskpart in the volume in the operating system.

Also, see the bottom of discussion for some good advice on preserving the health of your VCDB

  • How to allocate disk space for vCenter server logs

    Hello

I plan to level 4.1 to 5.5 U2d vCenter on the customer site. One of the conditions set out in the vSphere upgrade guide is:

"In vCenter Server 5.x, the default size for vCenter Server connects is larger than in vCenter Server 4.x. make sure that the disk space allocated for the log folder is sufficient for this increase 450MB."

My question is how to allocate disk space for the log file and where can I find the disk space allotted to file papers to vCenter 4.1 existing?

Just see the free space on the partition where the vCenter server logs are stored. If it is insufficient, increase the size of the virtual disk and then increase the file system to the guest OS.

  • How to free up disk space for the database file

    Hi experts BDB.

I use bdb4.6.21 transaction Btree access method, found that after vacuum db db-> truncate, the size of the db file has changed. How to free up disk file db space? It can be configured?

    Thank you

    Min

    Hi Min,

What Mike says is that you do not expect that the empty space after an operation of truncation (for example a delete or update that empties a page) in the database (empty pages) to return to the file system and therefore to see the physical file size decreases.

The next section of the documentation explaining this: required disk space

Space released by removing the key/data pairs in a Btree database or Hash is never returned in the file system, even if it is reused when possible. This means that the databases Btree and hash are to develop alone. If enough key is deleted from a database which shrinks the underlying file is desirable, use the DB-> compact() method to recover disk space. Alternatively, you can create a new database and copy the folders of the former into it.

So, as Mike suggested, you can dump and reload the data into a new database, or copy data from the existing/old database to a new (to remove the old database and rename a new one the old name), or you can try to compact the database using the method compact().

If you use compact(), then in order to force the return of empty for the file system pages when possible, use the DB_FREE_SPACE flag and try to avoid using an explicit transaction (use a NULL tnxid pointer, so this BDB will use internally of several transactions that will be engaged periodically to avoid locking large sections of the tree).

When you use the compaction in order to free up space and return pages from database empty in the file system that it is generally recommended to repeat Compact with a value low 'compact_fillpercent '.  In addition, the following output statistics fields in the structure DB_COMPACT, compact_pages_truncated and compact_pages_free should be examined to determine if there is a point, continuing to run the compaction with the same compact_fillpercent.  If the values are strict positive it is then compact() calling again with the same compact_fillpercent (and specify the DB_FREE_SPACE flag).  The compact algorithm allows a single pass on the pages of the database;  pages so not empty at the end of the file will prevent the free pages (which are placed on the free list) to be returned to the file system.

    Kind regards

  • calculate disk space total used by databases oracle across the company

    Hello

If we want to know the number of instances, the number of RAC databases and disk space around total used by oracle (not the size of file system),

    1. any script can be run to grid control OEM against all instances/databases?

    or

    2. we have a unix server that has the entire databases tnsnames, any script that we can run from there?

    Thank you very much!!

This is not a difficult task.

    What OEM version you have?

    (i) connection in OEM

    (2) create a Group and add all of the databases in this group

    3) go to the "Reports" section in OEM and GO to 'Oracle database space use (group)'

    4) click on this link

    (5) select the group that you created in the previous step and see the report.

    (6) it will show you the TOTAL space, space allocated and free space of all databases in the group together.

  • Inaccessible machine always appears as the use of disk space on vCenter

    Hello

I use an ESX 4 server as a host of a vCenter.  One of our machines has probably been removed via the ESX itself some time ago and it does not exist on the store data, but when you browse the host when it is connected to the vCenter, I see the machine appears under the name "inaccessible".  Now, when I look at the virtual host computers tab, I see that the machine uses up to 25 GB of disk space, but this machine does not really exist on the data store.  I tried refreshing and so forth, but the machine still appears as existing and too much space.  Can someone explain why this is the case?

Also, I can remove the machine from the inventory and no block will be reserved for this machine?

    Thank you

    Ofer

If you are sure, that concerned VM is not necessary, do a right-click the VM and remove from the inventory. It won't support a swap file lock in the data store as the heartbeat for this virtual machine is already lost.

Usually, a VC service is restarted and the removal of the virtual machine directly from host should solve the problem.

  • Find the largest tables (disk space) in a database

Our problem: customers who have problems that we cannot recreate are asked to export their data as a dmp and then we download the dmp to investigate to import locally and to implement were the problem is.
Some customer data sets are too large to download (3-4 GB - I know that this shouldn't be a problem but some customers have very slow connection speeds and it would take a lifetime).
To work around this, they put on a DVD and send (which takes a few days).
The thing is, that these data sets are probably around 400 MB with a table showing the rest with blobs (and this table is probably not the cause of the problem). So indeed, we can it exclude from the export.

    What we want to achieve:
There are potentially some of these tables that could be large so we would like to produce a script to determine which tables are the largest disk space. We then (if the problem that the customer experiences is nothing to do with these tables) will not include these export on the DMP. Which means we can get their faster data and subsequently solve their problem in a shorter time.

Where to start any help will be much appreciated. We use db 10g

You can query s/n | WHERE user_segments, ordered by decreasing bytes.
    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/statviews_4097.htm#REFRN23243
    Something like:

    select segment_name
    , segment_type
    , bytes
    from ( select segment_name
           , segment_type
           , bytes
           from dba_segments
           where owner = user
           order by bytes desc
         )
    where rownum <= 10

    For the 10 largest segments.

  • Running out of disk space HARD - Question on the Windows folder size

Hello! I am troubleshooting my HARD drive space. I have a 'C' HDD 16 GB with nearly 0 MB space left (fluctuates probably due to created restore points).

In any case, I discovered that my Windows folder contains about 7.7 GB of files. (I have Win XP Home Ed, 2002, SP3 installed - with MANY updates that have been installed over the years) 7.7 GB seems a lot.  Random check on the web (not sure how reliable replica is) I see less than 2 GB is what should be there.

I don't think that there are many 'other' stuff in there, certainly nothing that I placed there. is there a way to check / clean this folder?

Please do not suggest to re - install Windows as the solution, since at that time, I will buy another computer first.  then put in shape this one. It is clocked at 2.66 GHz Intel Pentium, so not ready to junk food she still.

Thanks for your suggestions. Best regards, Frank V

    Frank

Your list of the most fragmented files that partially reveals the magnitude of your problem. Note that the list does not display very large files that have less than 797 fragments. There are also many small and medium-sizes of the files fragmented with less than 797 fragments. A notable omission in your list, this is the System Volume Information folder. I can't believe that it is not fragmented, she must be on this part of the list is not displayed.

To defragment by using with Windows XP Disk Defragmenter, you need a bit less 15%. Defraggler is my favorite Defragmenter, but I doubt that it will succeed on your C partition. With Defraggler you can defragment single files, except some files, including those related to safety programs. You must try to reach 20% of free disk space.

Your swap file is severely fragmented and illustrated perfectly why the possibility of using the "let Windows manage" is not the best solution if you want the better system performance. Minimum setting fixed maximum = pagefile avoids what you see on your system. Unfortunately with a populated partition, it is very difficult if not impossible to resolve completely without having to reinstall the operating system. However, trying to mitigate the impact of what you see, it's something to watch much later in the restoration, the functioning of your computer.

My previous to Outlook Express references were specifically directed against this program. Outlook is a totally different program and solutions for Outlook Express do not apply to Outlook.

You cannot compact Outlook pst files and archives, except those who created versions of Outlook prior to Outlook 2003. You can empty deleted item folder and you must first check that it is empty. I would then back up your Outlook Archives on an external drive or flash before attempting to move the locations of archive. Once you have moved the archive folders successfully I would then move messages from your current folders to the archive folders. If you archive the current materials first of all you have more to lose if the process of change the default location of the folder goes awry. Then, you can archive your current messages and change the default location of the current file. You can move messages current return from archives as a last step if you feel the need to do so.

I copied a few instructions from an external source on how to change the default locations. I hope you find these useful.

To change the location of database of Microsoft Outlook, the OUTLOOK file. PST is to be moved. In Windows XP, you can find this file in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\loginname\Local Settings\Application application\Microsoft\Outlook\ and in Windows Vista, you can find it in the C:\Users\loginname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\ folder. After Outlook is closed, the OUTLOOK folder. PST can be moved easily using Windows Explorer by cutting (CTRL-X) and paste (CTRL-V) in the personal folder on the partition data (for example D:\loginname\Outlook). Now, the file is deleted from the original location, Outlook will present an error message because the database can not found. Accept the error message, navigate to the new location of the OUTLOOK. PST file and restart Outlook.

ATTENTION: If automatic archiving is enabled, the ARCHIVE file. PST must be moved as well! This file can be moved to the same location as OUTLOOK. PST, following the same procedure.

  • Free disk space on the C partition

    Separated from this thread.

I am also having the same problem.  I am running Vista Home Premium SP2.  I was getting close to complete on my drive C (13% free space). I was shocked to see how quickly it filled up, almost as if he did it by himself.  I was downloading a lot so I had no idea how it happened.  I ran each program cleaning and each antivirus that I had to try to make room.  I cleaned up program files deleted a bunch of audio and video files, and it does not seem to do much more of a difference.  I shut down the computer for the night and is returned to him the next morning.  I ran and bought a few flash drives to transfer files more and when I booted up I checked the hard drive and it was back to 48% free space (as it was before).  I have no idea what happened, but so far, it seems to be fixed...?   one of the cleansers I ran also ccleaner.

    Compress files

There are two ways to compress files in windows. Zip files and built-in file compression. It's built-in file compression. For more information on compression type zip in Start - Help and Support .

Photos, music and video are already compressed. They can get larger if Windows tries to compress it any further. Also usually a bad idea to compress system files.

If you have files of worksheet they can very well be compressed. If you have files, installation files, they can also be good candidates. Web pages are also good candidates.

In Windows Explorer, blue file names means Tablet (it is the file system compression not aka zip files compressed files). Green filename means Encrypted.

To disable file names colored, in Explorer - Tools menu (Alt + T)- display tab and then clear the check box for Show encrypted or compressed NTFS in color .

Windows compression, encryption and security to work for the most part by applying attributes to a folder and the files in the folder inherit the folder.

If you have all the files appropriate for compression, find them in solution, made Explorer right click - Properties - general -Advanced button tab - Compress contents to save disk space. Choose to apply to all files and folders when asked.

  • Upgrade to 10.5 fails - not enough disk space in common Partition - db_hist using more space

    Hi all

Tried upgrading our 9.0 (2) UCCX SU1 HA deployment 10.5 (1) last night and it failed with the following message.

There is not enough disk space in the common partition to perform the upgrade. Please use the platform command line Interface or the tracking tool in time real (RTMT) of free space on the common partition.

RTMT reported common disk space used as 94%. RTMT using we put the LogPartitionHighWaterMarkExceeded at 55% and waited for the disk space free. No luck.

A bit more investigation and it turns out there is a database called db_hist_dbs in the common partition which is 33 GB in size. This is the command and returned the output that we used to find this point.

    See the common diskusage

    8.0 K/common/Ministry of health

    33G/common/var-uccx/CBD/db_hist_dbs

    1.6 G/common/var-uccx/CBD/temp_uccx_dbs

    37G/common/var-uccx

    /Common/ontape_backup.gz 16 M

    8.0 K/common/cancel_upgrade

Using this command - show uccx dbserver disc - we can see that the db_hist database file is actually 80% free! Output of the command here-

SNO. TOTAL SIZE (MB) OF NAME OF DATABASE SIZE (MB) USED THE FREE SIZE (MB) TO ONE HUNDRED FREE

    ---- ------------------ --------------- -------------- -------------- ------------

    4 db_hist 34508,6 6836.9 27671,7 80%

Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce the file size of the database in question? Is it still possible? Or what are our options to work around this problem and perform the upgrade.

    Thanks in advance

    Jeff

You run in this bug: CSCul18667

    Symptom:
Log purge CUIC is not clean file JMX. Upgrade may fail for lack of space.
"show status" command s show that logging consumes 99% of space

    Workaround solution:
Can remove by going to RTMT-> central tracking log & -> remote browse-> nodes-> 'specific node'-> UCCX-> Cisco Unified Intelligence Center Servicability Service-> jmx-> select all-> Delete

  • duplicate in WMP 12 files, are they binding or they take disk space?

duplicate in WMP files, are they binding or they take disk space?

I have duplicate files and triple in WMP
I tried the options for this clean, they do not and some are not copied into itunes, they double before copying them to itunes
all these multiple copies take disk space or that they are links to my music library?

    Hello

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

If I understand correctly, you have for the songs duplicate entries in Windows Media Player.

    Please answer these questions:

What are the options have you tried to remove duplicate entries from Windows Media Player?

When you move digital media files on your computer, the file name and file path information remain unchanged in your library. Then when you select a file to play to its new location, a new entry is created in your library, if you select the option automatically added to your library when played. As a result, your library can quickly contain a large number of entries, duplicate or invalid.

Let us try the following methods:

Method 1: Try the following article, if you have not yet tried:

Remove items from the Windows Media Player library:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/remove-items-from-the-Windows-Media-Player-library

Method 2: See the following article:

Open the troubleshooter in the Windows Media Player library:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-Windows-Media-Player-library-Troubleshooter

Method 3: See the following steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. Click Start, run, type Player, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media , andclicknext OK.

    c. Select all files in the folder, and then click delete on the file menu.

Note: You don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Method 4: Clear the cache of database Windows Media Player files. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. Click Start, run, % LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft, and then click OK.

    c. Select the folder Media Playerand then click delete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Hope the helps of information. Don't answer if you need assistance, we will be happy to help you.

  • The TMS low disk space warning level

Anyone know what the threshold is TMS warn of low disk space?  I can't find it in the documentation.

Mine me gives this warning now and I wonder how much space I must give before being happy, probably by increasing the size of the virtual disk, so it would be good to know my target, since this kind of thing requires certain formalities and I would prefer not to do twice.

    Thank you.

Depending on the size of the deployment, it is recommended for the hard drive to be around 60-80 GB by the installation Guide for TMS.  You can move your SQL database on the server, if it is hosted on the same server as MSDS, as well as the removal of old server logs.  Here are a few suggestions on how you can free disk space on the server TMS.

  • JOINT-2 Show Version / disk space

With the help of 758M off bytes 17 G of disk space available (5% of use)

My questions are, what is using 758 M disk space? and how do I clear it?

    Thank you

    -Jeff

The use of the disc you see is for storage of EventStore of the probe (sort of a database of alerts) and the IpLogs and may also include a prior upgrade backup files storage (so you can downgrade later).

The EventStore uses up to 4 gigs (4 concerts are previously assigned and then filled the need). When the 4 gigs is full sensor will automatically overwrite the oldest alerts with the latest alerts so it is not necessary to manually delete anything.

The large difference in the use of the disc between 2 sensors is probably the number of alarms stored in the EventStore. If a sensor was freshly image, and another sensor worked for several weeks, then the freshly image sensor using not all 4Gigs for now. The other sensor has probably already filled it is 4 Gigs and is already overwhelming alarms older with the most recent alarms.

If you want to delete old alert data, you can run "erase events" in the CLI. This may not, however, erase the disk space of these past events. It marks usually just these past events as deleted.

The IpLogs uses 512 Megs is also pre-allocated system. New IpLogs will automatically overwrite older IpLogs more so it is not necessary to manually delete anything on the system (in fact there no supplied command for the removal of the IpLogs in the system).

Storage of backup data is automatic, and the installation program always checks that enough disk space exists for the backup to occur. The CLI provides no way to delete the backup files.

So you see that all this space is managed by the system internally. There is no reason for the user to delete all data, or trying to manage disk space. On some of the latest platforms and more with less disk storage usage percentage could be quite high, even under normal conditions.

So same uses very high disk are not cause for concern, and there is nothing that the user should be under normal circumstances (something could actually cause a problem on the sensor).

It's only when another problem is seen on the sensor using the drive to become a matter of concern. The user would have communicated with the TAC, and the development team will focus on the use of the disc and other factors of possible clues as to what might happen. While led by TAC engineers and developers the user may be sent to the enter the service account and do some manual diagnosis and possibly maintenance.

The only way to really clear the use of the disc is to recreate the image on the sensor. The new image will reformat the hard drive and install a new OS and new application IDS files. The EventStore will start back to size 0 and start building up to 4 Gig over time. This new image, however, is never really necessary unless a major problem or file corruption is seen on the sensor.

  • How to return disk space that Premiere Pro uses when editing?

I use Premiere Pro on a Mac to edit video. Whenever I have a project, I noticed that a lot of hard disk space is missing. I deleted all of my video files and almost all my project files. I have released as much as 100 GB of space and after the editing of a large project, more than half of the TI had disappeared. I went in Finder on Mac to see if I could find were the room isn't, but I'm not able to see all the really big files that could be made of the space. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at 7.6 GB on a 500 GB hard drive. Can not know where will all the space.

First of all, most of the people working in these programs use more than a sub-Go of disk.

Second... I don't think you have check your files from the cache, the database & such? Look in the drive of the project files tab / Scratch...

Describes circles are the "bits" on your computer, parts of arrows are the location. You have to put in a place you can easily find & em empty from time to time.
