  If your vCenter server is virtual, so you can use one of the commands to change the virtual machine state below:

  VMware-cmd

  or

  Vim - cmd

  Confirming. You can manage vCenter ESX (i) 4 5. A host can be managed to a vCenter.

• vCenter ESX closing on power-UPS

  All,

  I have vCenter (2.5) on XP and close to the ESX (3.5) machines. These three hosts are in a small locker. I have connected to the box XP vCenter aUPS. How can I have the box vCenter ESX machines to say stop when vCenter box detects a power failure? So if the failure and the UPS signals that a threshold has been passed, which will trigger the XP box at the stop. Before that happens, I want to stop, the other two ESX machines. I can this script in a certain way, or there at - it a plugin of vCenter that I can use.

  All guess, thought or insight is appreciated.

  There was a thread on this just now... can't find it right now, but in my opinion, an individual CPA says their product would soon be compatible with controlled stop.

  However, you specify which provider supplies your UPS.  If they have no support in their product management, I suggest using a script from the VI Toolkit to discover fully optimized on VMs and issue a stop command.

• Adding to vCenter ESX 3 5

  Hi people,

  I pass three ESX (3.5) of their old VMware Infrastucture 2.5 host to vCenter 5, this vCenter is located in a different subnet. when I added the ESX to vCenter that I used to get the error "license server does not", I fixed that by allowing ports 27000 and 27010 between two subnets. then I have been able to add the ESX host the vCenter successfully, but after about 20 seconds the show ESX as disconnected in the inventory, when I right click and you reconnect, he get connected but after 20 seconds, it Disconnect again.

  here is the ports I have authorized between the two subents (the subnet esx 3.5 and vCenter subnet)

  For version 3.x, there other ports mentioned those that you mentioned in your first post. So, now that we know that it was a problem of communication, might be a good thing to try to admit only the ports mentioned in this document to see how it goes and get the safest possible scenario

• DELL PE R710 missing sensors on the tab 'Hardware status' vCenter ESX after latest patch update!

  Last month, I update all my ESX host with the latest patches for ESX from 28/04/2011 (ESX410-201104001) via the vCenter Update Manager, earlier this month, accidentally, I have some verification to be done in the server room and noticed a hard drive failure on one of my DELL R710 Rack servers, I you connected the VirtualCenter client and when I click on the tab 'Hardware status' (where the alarms about the) Configuration hardware server usually appear), I noticed that my storage sensors are missing, the network sensors as well! ?? I recall that on March I did have another server hard disk failure, but I saw an alarm (for predictive failure) on my vCenter and I call Dell to replace the drive back!

  I also noticed that now the number of my server sensors are between 73 and 88, before I remember although there were a couple hudred of them! ??

  After some research on the net, I did I frimware/BIOS upgrade of all hardware on the servers, as I install OMSA 6.5 and Dell management plug-in to vCenter and all seems to work just fine, but storage sensors and count sensor under the tab 'Hardware status' issue was not resolved. I think there is a problem with vcenter, because when I connect directly to the host through the vsphere client, in the "State of health" tab all the material appears correctly. I found subjects with similar problems, but they have been with HP servers and not answered or solved!

  Is there anyone with similar problem or no answer to my question?

  Confirmed.  Without patch ESX410-201104401-SG, my other R710 has a full complement of sensors.

• The best way to solve this problem (internal vCenter, ESX host external)

  The issue is that we have our virtual Center and our production ESX hosts on our internal network. We have another site of emergency in a remote network, but welcomed a public address with a firewall in front of her.  When I add the host of my vCenter she adds in fact very well and works for 1 minute, then disconnects. This is because the heartbeat may not respond to the virtual Center.  The emergency server will be 3 VMS host, 1 e-mail box, 1 website and 1 backup domain controller.  I only know the basics of networking, so I don't know what would be the best idea of tests.

  Is it possible to Site 2 Site VPN? If Yes, then it would be much less complicated. Put ESX in DMZ with public IPs is not a good idea in terms of security.

• migration of old an own vcenter vcenter ESX Server new database

  I built a new facility for vCenter update 2.5 4 using all the practices of better news. I want to migrate my workloads to a former prod vCenter 2.5 update 3. I don't want to use the database information... I'm at nine.

  I have install all the cluseters and permissions in vCenter update 4. What is the best way to move workloads is the question.

  can I remove the 2.5 ESX Server 3 cluster and add to the new 2.5 update 4?

  I have to ESX server 2.5 vcenter update maintenance mode 3, remove cluseter, vmotion manually some of the workload, then remove the old vcenter and add in new vcenter?

  Right-click on one or several hosts, choose Disconnect and then delete.  Once removed from the earlier proceeding, click Add hosts to the new instance.

• Unable Ping Host ESX - very weird question...

  I have a question not yet no willingness so far. Please please help me if you have this issue before or a similar question.

  The question like this... 1 vm problem not pings from the ESX host. After reboot the VM, ESX able to ping back.

  Measures taken

  1 migrate this Virtual Machine to another host - done problem but always present

  2 check the connection as ping then found before restarting the virtual machine: -.

  On my side

  2.2 - PIng ESX for VM - inaccessible Getting - not sure it's not main problem (previously ask our customer to reboot the virtual machine)

  We using vSphere 4.1 and the best part, this issue does not happen every day or week. Sometimes occur each week one - (which I think that maybe our fixed calendar client) and sometimes occur each week 2. Sometimes the best part happens 2 times a week.

  During the new installation of Vcenter Server on Windows 2008 R2 SP1, I get "Error 29102"

  I think that you are referring to the warning message when connecting to a host directly with the vSphere client.

  

  This message is just saying that this host is managed by the vcenter Server. You can completely manage the ESXi.

  You can remove the host from the vcenter server, then this warning message will disappear.

• VCenter datastore model card question

  It is perhaps more a matter of functionality of feature. I've deployed a device vCenter and 3 physical hosts connected. vMotion has not been activated yet so that the servers are autonomous.

  I created a template on server 2 to deploy virtual machines. There was a file name and network boot / iso associated with the model. The model has been used to deploy the VM to the Server 3. There are a few complaints from the wizard on the iso and the different not available due to the physical host network. The model deploys very well and the virtual machine is then updated with the correct DVD and network information. The warehouses of data on both servers are local to that time.

  My question is, although he seems to have absolutely no connection with the data store, the plan stresses the relationship between the data store on server 2 with the VM on the Server 3. Is it correct to say that this is due to the original still on server 2? All disks, DVD, network, etc. on the deployed vm are local to the Server 3.

  The problem came from snapshots, which contained references to the old host. Once those that have been deleted, the map display correctly.

• VMware vCenter 5.1 install Question

  I installed vCenter on ESXI 5.1 5.1 but when I try to save the vCenter Server using the Web Client Administration tool, I get an error saying "VMware ESX and VMware ESXi hosts are not supported with vSphere 5.1.0 Web Client".

• 4.1 and vCenter ESX only allows to use 1 Fibre Channel LUNS

  I have 8 blades ESX 4.1 (build 348481) in a Cisco UCS 5108 chassis. Each blade has 2 x HBAs available. I also have a fiber channel storage array that is configured to provide 2 1.8 to LUN (for now and in the future).

  When I go in vCenter and select one of the ESX servers under "Configuration"-> "Storage adapters"-> "Rescan all...» "each server detects the table (and several paths towards it) but only shows a single available LUNS (LUN 0) when 2 LUNS should be available (LUNS 0 and 1 logical unit number). See the image below.

  

  Now, the thing that confuses me is that when I get on the command-line of the ESX via SSH server and run "esxcfg-mpath - b", I see a list of all the paths including the paths to the LUNS 0 and 1 logical unit number (see output below). Any ideas on why ESX and vCenter authorizes me to LUN 1?

  Its because the table shows two LUNS have the same value of ID of Page 83, ESX both think you have 2 paths to the same LUN.  Paths multiple ESX driver uses the value of the ID of Page 83 to determine if 2 LUNS are the same device.

  It was a problem with that code, that it resembles yours-based Solaris beginning according to the tables and other tables that used code based on Solaris pre-COMSTAR, as well as tables that use SCWIST.

  There is really nothing you can do about it, because it is a bug in the software of the array (it shouldn't be exporting 2 LUNS different with the same ID value of Page 83 - it is a violation of the standard).
