VCenter eval Operations Management Suite License change

I'm trying the product eval, which is great BTW, but I want to know if it is away from changing the license for the eval for anything other than "the company."  I'm assuming that the eval is the full licensed version, but realistically we will buy something less.  Is there a way to change the eval to reflect the 'Foundation', 'Standard' or 'Advanced '?  I would like to see the product with the limited functionality because it is difficult to determine what are the options in which version.  Thank you.

Hello dla123,

Just to make sure we're all on the same page, be aware that product edition names change in version 5.6... When 5.6 released, I'll try and remember to update this message/thread with the mapping between these product editions.

I write this, because you're talking about the Foundation, which is NOT available for 5.0.  The Foundation provides access to the Victoria Cross analytical performance Ops only, no capacity planning.  As far as I know, no license is required, but you will need to run vSphere 5.1.  Just install the VAPP, register with vCenter and you'll be good to go.

Standard/advanced/enterprise suites include all the features of the vC to vSphere UI Ops - there is no difference.  The main difference for vC Ops Advanced/Enterprise is that you will have access to the custom user interface that offers the possibility to build dashboards that incorporate third-party adapters as well as some cards of products VMware (like Hyperic and vCD).  Standard does not provide this functionality.

So, the short answer... to see the differences in the features of the product that you need to wait up to 5.6 is GA so you can watch Foundation (no permit required).  Otherwise, all versions of 5.6 have the same functionality in the user interface of vSphere.

  • Architecture with two versions of vCOPs management Suite

    Hello

I appreciate any help on this issue. I have a client who wants vSphere Enterprise to Enterprise vSOM (with vCenter Operations Manager Standard... by default).  This customer has some virtual machines that need monitoring of application., and as you know, it's possible witht vFabric Hyperic available later in the Operations Manager vCenter Enterprise. If the customer is going to buy this two products:

-vSOM Enterprise: vSphere Enterprise + vCenter Standard Operations Management Suite (licensed per processor)... for the upgrade.   And

-Operations Management Suite Enterprise (package of 25 OS Instance) vCenter... for VMS that need monitoring.

In architecture, the question is whether they can 'mix' present two types of license in the same hosts, or if they put those VMs who need follow-up to separate host applications?

    Thanks for your help!

It is possible to have two different instances of vC registered to a unique vCenter Ops.  My recommendation would be to manage these two versions at the cluster level (Group A would vSOM, Cluster B would be vC OPS, for example).

  • Updated VMware vCenter Operations Manager tools

Hello everyone, I just use Citrix Xenserver to VMware vCenter with Operations Manager 5.8.4.  I've looked everywhere and cannot find an answer to this.  Is it possible to update VMware tools in the vCOPS TIME?  I just started my new environment with v8 of Veeam backup and he lets know me that VMware tools are outdated.  The only reason why I ask because, coming from Citrix Xenserver v6.2, whenever a device from the virtual computer is provided by Citrix, you're stuck with the tools provided in this unit until they update the device.

If it's good to update the VMware tools, it's as simple as opening the console to each virtual machine in the vApp and he tell the ' Install/Upgrade Vmware Tools?  Or is there a more complicated step?

    Thank you

    Brett

As far as I KNOW, the VMware tools upgrade is not recommended on vCops.

This breaks the device and you can ignore the message of the VMware tools obsolete.

  • How to remove vCenter Operations Manager to the extent of consumption?

    Hello

I imported data from metering 3.3.2 to 3.4. Collection fails:

'No info extension Operations Manager for xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx vCenter we didn't took a vCenter Server.

There was a vCops a long time ago, but it has been uninstalled for a long time according to the removal instructions (VMware KB2036389) including the defection of the extension.

Manage / products a buttons only rebuild and change to vCops, but how can I remove vCops to operate the data collection?

Note: You mentioned that you had already registered vCOPs/vROPs with vCenter. If this is the case, then you can skip step 1.

Here are the steps that I followed which allowed me to delete a previously docommissioned vCOPs/vROPs vCLUM server.

    1. make sure that the server vCOPs/vROPs is more entered with vCenter

    2. in the portal web vCLUM, click Manage in the top right

    3. make sure that the products tab is selected

    4. click on the checkbox Show inactive

    5. click on the button delete next to the vCenter your old server vCOPs/vROPs was previously attached (you will get a prompt saying that it will not remove the vCenter if he he already asked for data)

    6. Finally, click Activate next to the vCenter.

    I hope this helps!

  • Allocation of vSphere with a host operations management licenses

    Hi all

How in the world I assign VMware vSphere with standard 5.5 license management operations to a host? The implementation has been green field, so we bought the acceleration for vCenter server kit that comes with 6 licenses vSphere with the direction of the operation. I've got Ops Manager works well and himself is allowed and can see all hosts. We also bought 12 additional licenses for 18 in total, and I can see the other 12 and assign them to hosts, but can not see the original 6. I never could.

    License Issue2.pngLicense Issue1.png

    Any help appreciated.

    André

Finally, I called support license and solved it. I had to downgrade 6 Operations Manager vCenter licenses in order to see them. My hosts are all on ESX 5.1. The downgrade is made of my.vmware.com--> license keys--> I want to: Downgrade from licenses. He worked as expected after that.

I also see that when in the 'Summary' of VMS tab:

However, the VC operations manager correctly see all resources.

    What's new:

    More flexibility with capacity planning

    • Capacity Assess risk and plan of distribution and effective demand: define your varied business needs-based strategies to assess the risk of the capacity, efficiency and forecasts. For example, different pads, too commit thresholds of alert, schedules, reports, etc., in production and test-dev environments.
    • New views for Cluster capacity risk: identify quickly via color view of risk of ability to Cluster clusters grouped by commercial criteria, etc., are threatened by ability - right size faces a deficit of capacity now or in the near future, or all simply not.  Down for each cluster in Cluster mode risk detail to analyze what resource is forced on and why.
    • New common environments and workloads policies: new policies of out-of-the-box, such as the Production and Test-Dev strategies, enable a quick installation of the capability settings of Operations Manager to vCenter for types of common environments. Additional new out-of-the-box policies, such as batch workload, interactive workload and political to ignore the virtual machines, help to refine the ability of law with precision settings dimensions and analyze different workloads based on their performance characteristics.

    Improved self-monitoring

This version introduces new diagnostic measures to monitor the health and availability of the components of Operations Manager vCenter, such as analytical, collector, Active MQ, Web server, database, and operating system.

Widgets with flexibility and ease of use

    • Health Tree Widget: facilitate the visualization for a large number of objects.
    • Generic Widget Scoreboard: graphics support Sparkline, metrics channel and filtering by resource settings.
    • Metric Sparkline Widget: configurable color ranges and units, are supported for the type of resource and the label.
    • The resource widget: customizable to add parameters beyond health.
    • Top-N analysis Widget: support to the analysis based on the most recent values.

    New personalized relationship Widget

To create a view hierarchy and the relationship of custom resource, like the current view out-of-the-box vCenter server.

Great custom user interface to import and export of edge changes and indicators

    • Changed export of binary (.bin) format in XML (.xml): synchro .bin file formats are still supported for backward compatibility.
    • DBCLI improvements: programmatically import and export Super Metrics.
    • Pre-population of the dashboard during import objects.

    Balanced profile Metrics

This version introduces a new metric profile that signals a small set of parameters. Increase the scalability of vCenter Operations Manager to support more resources by changing the metric profile in the new "Balanced" profile in vCenter operations Manager Administration.

    VMware vCenter Navigator Infrastructure-filtering capacity

You can configure display it resources discovered by vCenter Infrastructure Navigator in vCenter Operations Manager. This version introduced a feature of configurable Infrastructure Navigator vCenter adapter filtering to control the service and Application reporting of Application resources. For each resource type, you can set up a "black list" or "whiteList" filtering in the filterList.txtconfiguration file.

    • black list: the Infrastructure Navigator vCenter adapter ignores the specified entries. If a name of Service Application or an Application name is included in the "black list", it is not reported by the adapter to Infrastructure Navigator vCenter. It is the default setting. The Infrastructure Navigator vCenter adapter filters unknown names of default Application services.
    • white list: Infrastructure Navigator vCenter adapter reports only the specified entries. If there are no entries added to the white list mode, none of the resources of the resource type matching appear.

    New browser support

This version adds the new support for the following browsers: Apple Safari version 6, 24 and 25, the versions of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox 18 and 19.

  • Where the vCenter Operations Manager Enterprise 5.0 download

    Hello

Not sure if the site confused me or is it just me? I'm looking to download vCenter Operations Manager Enterprise 5.0 as it is called on the Installation and the Configuration Guide.

What I find is VMware vCenter 5.0.2 enterprise operations. Is this the same thing, not enough Manager in there? I think that my 5.0 license will work with 5.0.2 but why is it not the same name? I'm looking for even for good download? So so very well, otherwise where the devil is she lol

Thank you for your help... Jim

Hi Jim, looking to the correct download.

  • Cannot deploy Operations Manager vcenter

    Hello

After we bought vSphere essentials 5 more we received a license for an Operations Manager Standard vCenter.

After the order has been extracted, I downloaded the .ova

Now I'm trying to deploy the .ova in the cluster, but I got two errors:

the first, after I chose my cluster in the wizard, a popup said:

error of the ovf package is not valid and cannot be deployed

the other, after an another try to install said:

Impossible to deploy descriptor of the FVO on cluster cluster because it contains a paralytic and the cluster is not in mode of DRS.

We do not have the license for DTH (since we have essentially more) then why vmware offers us a software license, we can't use because of the other license restrictions?

Is there a way to install this virtual machine? I tried ovftool with no luck

    Thank you

I'm in exactly the same position.  I followed the procedure described in the KB 2013695 article that deals specifically with installing vCOps on Essentials Plus.

I followed this article to deploy the EGGS and then lit the VM 2 (unemployment and analytics).  The web administration page is not accessible.  If I open a console for the virtual machine to the user interface, it displays an error:

vCOps 5.0.0 build 554150 met one or more unrecoverable errors.

Unable to get the identity of the virtual machine.  This indicates the ovf possible deployment directly on ESX.  Deploy the ovf of vCenter.

The other VM (analytical) does not display an error.

I had given a fixed IP address when deploying the OVF, but when virtual machines under tension, they had taken of DHCP addresses.  I reset the IP address, DNS and time zone on each virtual machine.

Have you found a workaround?  The message indicates a response has been recorded, but I do not see.

    Thank you

    -Randy-

  • vCenter Operations Manager doesn't show any new virtual machines added

    Hi all

I have a 5.5U2 of vSphere environment coupled with Operations Manager 5.8.4 vCenter in this environment, I have a strange behavior as new created virtual machines are not directly shown in the tree view of the infrastructure. Sometimes they raise within the hour, sometimes, others may need several days to appear.

If I want an immediate reflection of VMS in vCenter, I have the best "Workaround", I tried to restart the services Operations Manager vCenter virtual machine of the user interface.

All components are registered in DNS names, I checked that all entries are correct, that is the case. And they can be solved.

Operations Manager vCenter is secured by a member of MS internal CA of an Active Directory domain.

After "googleing"I've seen a similar question on hosts that are not visible, but not the VMs."

Some of you have already experienced this kind of questions?

    Thanks for your comments,

    Michael

As reported by the VMware support, it's normal behavior with this version of vCOPS. Switch to the 6.x version to solve the problem.

  • Operations Manager vCenter don't watch do not work load Matrix on 1 of the 3 ESXi servers

    Hello

I need help troubleshooting.  This last weekend, we have improved our main router of L3, which caused a tizzy with networks (duhh!)   After the task was completed, operations Manager (5.7.1) stopped making account CPU on one of the three hosts ESXi (5.1.0, 799733).  vSphere sees all data (CPU, Mem, network) of the ESX host and DRS works.  I have logs of the hosts on the migration server.  So, how do Ops Manager report correctly for this server?

    Thank you

    Brian...

See #1 in my recommendation... vSphere could bring their stats, but you should check vCenter to see if vCenter is bringing.
