VCenter Server licenses

Hello

I need assistance with licensing Vmware. We have about 50 guests in our infrastructure. I would like to manage them all under a Vcenter Server. These are individual hosts so we do not use some advanced features such as HA and FT, vMotion, DRS etc. At present we have license of vSphere Essentials 5 for vSphere and vCenter Server 5 license for Vcenter Essentials.

Can someone tell me which can satisfy the above requirement?

Hi and welcome to communities,

you need 1 vCenter Server Standard license, which allows you to manage up to 1000 guests.

For your ESXi hosts, you will need Standard license or superior (Enterprise, Enterprise PLUS)

You can compare the editions of license here: http://www.vmware.com/de/products/vsphere/compare

But since you do not use the cool features (you should) Standard license for the guests will be the cheapest.

  • How can I change the licenseManager focus to be a host when it is connected to a vCenter Server

    I used the software VMware Perl SDK.

    I wrote a script to host license request.

    When I connect directly to a host, I'm able to query that host ESX (i) of the licence, if it is in evaluation mode or not. I am happy with this feature.

    When I connect to a vCenter server, I want to be able to change the direction of licenseManager to a specific host. How can I do this?

    for example:

    My $service_content = Vim::get_service_content();

    My $license_manager = Vim::get_view (mo_ref = > $service_content-> licenseManager);

    With the code above, when I me lorsque je me connecte connect to vCenter, the focus is on the vCenter Server licenses and there all licenses.

    I would like to be able to focus on a particular host. How do I do that?

    I played a little more and I found that I can use the QueryAssignedLicenses sub and directly to the host target.

    Continuing my code from my original post

    My $target_host_view = Vim::find_entity_view (view_type-online 'HostSystem', filter-online {name-online 'ESXiHOST'});

    licenseAssignmentManager);

    My = $license_assignment_manager $assigned_licenses-> QueryAssignedLicenses (entityId-online $target_host_view-> summary-> host-> value);

    $assigned_licenses will now be an object array with your assigned license.

    Because there is an a table object, you can also do:

    my $license = @{$assigned_licenses} [0]-> assignedLicense;

    And you can display items such as:

    Print $license--> name. "\n";

    Print $license--> licenseKey. "\n";

    Our company recently bought a license for VMware vCenter Server 6 Essentials for vSphere (VCS6-ESSL-C) with license keys for VMware vSphere Essentials 6 for 1 processor (ha6-ESSL-C).

    I accumulated vCenter Server 6 on a physical device and assigned the new relevant license key, as well as installed Update Manager Server on this machine. This instance seems to be functional and functional.

    I havn't done it myself yet, but I think you should be able to achieve your goal, follow these steps:

    -downgrade license keys CPU Essentials to v5 im Portal MyVMware

    -the value of the new vCenter Server Evaluation Mode (actually maybe not necessary)

    -Add the licenses of Essentials v5 license vCenter inventory 6

    -Add hosts to the new vCenter Server ESXi 5.5 and assign licenses Essentials guests

    -re - assign the license previously removed to vCenter Server

  • Do need me a separate license for VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat for a remote SQL Server database?

    Do need me a separate license for VMware vCenter Server Heartbeat for a remote SQL Server database?

    Only a single vCenter Server Heartbeat license is necessary to protect the components of the vCenter Server installed remotely, including SQL Server. A single license is also used for several UNIQUE for vCenter Server services protected authentication servers. A license is required per instance of vCenter Server.

  • The host is licensed with VMware vSphere 5 Standard. The license of vCenter Server edition doesn't support VMware vSphere 5 Standard.

    So I disconnected a host to vcenter server and now I get this error message when I try to reconnect to this host.  The host has been previously connected without any problem.  Vcenter servers as esxi are 5.5.0.  Anyone had any experience with this?

    Thank you.

    Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure why it worked previously. Maybe it worked with an earlier version, or hosts have been added while vCenter Server was still running in trial mode. Anyway, if you have a license of Essentials for vCenter Server, you must also license processors Essentials the Essentials version is sold as a kit.

  • License with vCenter server 6.0 problem

    I installed vCenter server 6.0 by using VMware-VCSA-all - 6.0.0 - 2414224.iso. I am able customer web connection vCenter and also able to see registered vCenter server. However, when you try to add the new host of the vCenter, it throws the error "license not available to perform the operation. By default, vmware offers trial license 60 days but I can not see the mode of trial license in the license tab.

    VCenter server 6.0 does a trial license 60 days? Please kindly let me know where I can get more information on vCenter server 6.0.

    Hello

    vCenter 6 not yet GA, I assume that you have installed the beta binaries.

    They can behave differently that the normal version of GA in what respect the trial period.

    I suggest to wait until date of GA and download the binaries then real.

  • Can of POS used with Vmware vCenter Server 5 Standard license

    Hello team,

    Accroding to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2016565

    WTP is supplied with vSphere Essentials more and more.

    I searched but did not meet solid information where he explains when licensed some don't need us to buy additional licenses for new features / applications, etc.
    I'm new to Vmware licenses hierarchy. We have Vmware vCenter Server Standard 5 license.
    Please point me to a URL that contains the hierarchy of Vmware licenses .

    Thank you much in advance.
    Niraj

    You can use vCenter Server Standard 5 licenses for POS. Everything we have features such as (profile of HA, DRS, FT, VDP, host, DVS etc.) you don't need to worry about the virtual server license Center. You must use the correct license vsphere host. But don't forget to think about some virtual server edition Center can handle some vsphere hosts.

    vCenter server 5 Essentials can manage only vSphere Essentials Plus or vSphere Essentials.

    vCenter Server Standard 5 licensecan eat only vSphere vSphere Enterprise and vSphere companies plus standards.

    You can activate the functionality of POS with vSphere Essentials Plus then you will need to use vCenter server 5 Essentials.If you use vCenter server standard for vSphere Essentials Plus so it give error or warning for violation of editing.

  • Do I really need a server license 5.0 vcenter for my vsphere Enterprise 5.0

    Hi all, im new to the Forum vmware and encryption currently in terms of licensing for our small internal data center facility.

    My physical features are for licensing

    Guests: 2
    Number of CPUS: 4
    by CPU core: 6
    For each host RAM: 32 GB will later expand to 64 GB
    and a device to IBM SAN
    If I purchase 4 licenses of the company and need to use the FT features and HA I really need the server vcenter license for that?
    What will miss if I do not buy the license of vcenter server?
    Buy licenses without any SnS that it's expensive, and we want to keep to a bare licensing.
    I thank in advance

    It will be possible to lower the cost even more far by going to an ENT AK but with vsphere Foundation? instead of the standard... or is it a fixed regime that cannot be changed.

    The Kits are sold as announced. These are especially price of starter kits that can be purchased once per site.

    What other discounts can I ask my distributor to provide other than VPP.

    Can't help you on this. I'm not even sure if you can get the volume for only 4 licenses processor licensing more vCenter Server.
    If above our list price no idea what sort of profit my distribution partner for vmware will do about that?
    How are they able to cite much less than these rates mentioned above!
    I don't think you will get an answer to these questions. Not sure what your company product, but I'm sure that you don't tell your clients how much profit you make on your products.

  • vCenter Server Evaluation license questions

    Hello

    I just downloaded and installed vCenter Server assessment. When I log on to the server vCenter via vSphere client and you try to add the host and the vm I get the message that my evaluation license has expired, but according to vMware he does not expire until December 2011.

    I checked the host for the configuration of the date and time, and that's okay.

    If it helps, I host esxi5 installed on a server and have created two esxi5 vm as well as three windows vm operating system.

    I appreciate any help on this.

    See you soon

    Chris

    Hi Chris

    The host usually has a Date in the past after installation. If you had a wrong date on the host to the (first) initial priming the vCenter device start-up of the device with the wrong date "BIOS" of the host. after correction of the Date do not help the license number of the trial of fixation.

    Conclusion: delete the vCenter device, check the Date and time of the ESXi host setting and deploy the vCenter device again. If now the device starts the first time the 60-day trial works as expected.

    Good luck!

  • vSphere license without vCenter Server Standard

    Hello

    I have ESXi (free licenses) servers. I want to make snapshots regualar usin the CLI to a virtual machine. This is not possible with the free version. Is it possible to buy a vSphere Standard edition license to activate these features, without vCenter Server?

    Thank you.

    The best way to "unlock" the CLI is to get Essentials edition. No need to setup the vCenter server.

  • Limitations and VCenter 4 Server licenses

    Hi all

    I've got license of VMware vsphere essentials, but I can't do the VCenter somehow two talk to each other for the migration and deployment of the model through two different VCenter.

    and so I opened the booklet PDF of VMware for the upgrade of a VCenter notch where I can use more than three ESXi hosts

    URL: http://www.VMware.com/files/PDF/vsphere_pricing.PDF

    my questions are:

    1. If I purchase vcenter standard edition, that I know, it is that licensing is calculated by CPU sockets and it's already included VCenter. Mgmt for the ESXi Server join?

    2. If I purchase the stand alone VCenter Server 4 USD $4995 done means I can join as ESXi possible host for the price is just an off?

    my current 2 x license VSphere Essentials will become useless after that I took one of these options.

    can someone help me please about this license, please?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    AWT

    To manage the ESX host, need you Standard vCenter and Agenet vCenter license to cover 8 - CPUI

  • installation of licenses for unit 3 expiration vSphere ESX 4 & 1 vCenter server

    Hello

    I have a problem with the installation of vSphere for unit 3 licenses expired ESX 4 & 1 Server vCenter.

    I have server unit 3 ESX 4 & 1 vCenter server is installed on the evaluation version that all were connected and works well.

    Today, I saw evaluation is expired and I have installed a license purchased for vCenter, now works well... & out of server ESX 3 1 automatically

    Get connected & I have including the license key for this ESX box... but I was not able to enter a license key for other areas of ESX4 2.

    So what I did is I connected ESX4 directly from vSphere client & entered a license key, its activated, but when I disconnected and tried to connect

    Yet once vcenter, it does not say "your ESX Server license has expired.

    So my question is why I can't bring back boxes ESX4 to vCenter?, what could be the possible solution?

    Help, please.

    Thank you

    Rashid

    You can enter all vCenter licenses (all series numbers) and then just assign a particular series (or licenses of serial number) via vCenter.

  • vCenter Server will power not on. There is insuffient licenses to complete this operation.

    VCenter Server 2.5 has been installed as a virtual server which also contains our license server.  He was accidentally turned off when the esx has been restarted.  Can I use the VI client to connect to the ESX host that contains the virtual server with Vcenter Server.  When I try to turn on the virtual server I get the error ' we identify licenses for this operation. "  "Select the host that contains the virtual machine, you try to turn it on, clikc the Configuration tab and change the licenses.

    Is it possible for temporary use, a part of the license file for this ESX host under license until I turn on the virtual machine that has the Vcenter server and the license server?

    The best way to do this is to connect to your vmware account, go to the licensing section, remove the existing centralized license file and then create a new stand alone/host license file, download it and then change the source of license of the ESX Server to use the file and then license ESX server.

  • vCenter Server (version 4) pricing and license

    Hello

    I am preparing a quote for two vSphere ESX v4 and a vCenter server.

    We need to VMotion and Drs So I think we need at least Enterprise edition (or higher) on the ESX section.

    As for vCenter, I was wondering if I can use vCenter Server for Essentials ($995) bundle, or do I have to get vCenter Server Foundation ($1495)?

    If I go with Essentials, I get the standard edition of ESX and vCenter Server at a lower cost than vCenter Server Foundation.  Allows to manage vCenter in Essentials Enterprise edition ESX?

    Opportunities for savings are welcome.  Thank you.

    Kong

    Kong Hi!

    1 vCenter Essentials server cannot do VMotion or DRS.

    Yes.

    2 vCenter Foundation can do VMotion and DRS (the difference between the Foundation and regular is the limitation of 3 ESX host).

    Yes.

    3. If the 3rd ESX is necessary on the road, is "accélération Kit" might be cheaper.

    There is no Enterprise Acceleration Kit, only Enterprise Plus, compare quotes for EntPlus Kit vs 3 Ent + vCenter

    Has anyone in the community runs vcenter server 6 HA with PSC inspectors sitting behind the f5 load balancer? Please share your thoughts if you have seen a similar problem.

    Thank you.

    Hi all

    We are able to go beyond the question of the installation. We did the capture of packets on both ends and discover that the reset was issued the installer by the licensing vCenter service running on the PSC.

    We have also created firewall rules more 18 altogether since the server vcenter for our f5 load balancing program, then 6 VIP of the F5 on the two controllers on duty Platform.

    I hope this helps other people who sought to install PSC in HA mode.
