vCloud 5.1 without vSheild

Guys,

I just want to check if it is possible to implement vCloud Director 5.1 without vCloud Networking & Security Components (IE vShield Manager?

Thank you

When you attach a vCenter Server in your environment for vCloud Director you will also need to provide details of the associated vShield Manager, so it is a requirement, even if you are not using routed oVDC/VAPP networks.

  • VAPP cloning without vCloud

    Hello

    We currently use the cloning of vApps on vCenter to wring an environment for our users when necessary.  Our current process is to use Powershell scripts called from a web service to clone a paralytic, but due to various problems with implementation, we are looking to move to Orchestrator.  I have looked around various resources on how to clone a VAPP using Orchestrator but just short.  There are a few items I found how to clone a paralytic, but everything is for all those who use vCloud Director.  I tried a Scriptable task to cloning by creating a new object VirtualApp defining any additional information to send in the clonevapp_task of coding, but I ran into issues trying to create the object VirtualApp.  Then, I tried to send in the VAPP object in the script task to ensure at least it works, but the clonevapp_task command is to launch a mistake because my VAppCloneSpec is not correctly identified.

    Can someone point me in the right direction in order to clone the VAPP?  Ideally, I would like to send a name of a paralytic to clone and the name of the new TIME and have the code/workflow do the rest.

    Thank you
    Dan

    Hello scrappy - I do not have the time nor resources that look entirely at the moment, but your task scriptable should resemble the following:

    // Initialize the VcVappCloneSpec and assign properties
    var vAppCloneSpec = new VcVAppCloneSpec();
    // vAppCloneSpec.host = targetHost; // online docs say this is not needed and resource pool will determine behavior: http://www.vmware.com/support/orchestrator/doc/vco_vsphere55_api/html/VcVAppCloneSpec.html
    vAppCloneSpec.location = targetDatastore; // Input: VC:Datastore
    vAppCloneSpec.vmFolder = targetVmFolder; //Input: VC:vmFolder
    vAppCloneSpec.provisioning = provisioningType; // one of the following strings: thin, thick, sameAsSource

    // Need to get source vApp networks so they may be mapped to destination vApp networks:
    var sourceNetworks = vApp.network;
    var networkMapping = new Array();

    // The following code needs to be rewritten to account for more/less networks:
    // Assumes the array "targetNetworks" has matching destination networks for each of the source networks
    for each (net in sourceNetworks){
        var networkMappingPair = new VcVAppCloneSpecNetworkMappingPair();
        networkMappingPair.source = net;
        networkMappingPair.destination = targetNetworks[0]; // Input: Array of VC:Network that matches up to the source networks by index - as noted above, this should be written to be more dynamic
        networkMapping.push(networkMappingPair);
    }
    // Now that the network mappings are ready, add property to clonespec:
    vAppCloneSpec.networkMapping = networkMapping;

    var task = vApp.cloneVApp_Task(newVAppName , targetPool , vAppCloneSpec);
    // Pass this task out to another workflow element that waits for the task to complete...

    Yet, I have not validated the code above, but looking at the objects in the API Explorer, this seems to be common sense. Pay attention to my comment lines in the above code, because it requires some adjustments.

  • Nested VApps in vcloud Director

    Is it possible to create the vapps nested within vcloud Director?

    Nesting vapps won't happen in vCD.  They will be parallel vApps.  Is not stop you from writing a tool/site Web automation, which would show you have there.

    vRA will address finally that, but they do not use vApps.  all virtual machines just became machines to manage without the concept of being part of a paralytic.  It will be that you have a plan of several computers that uses two other plans several computers (a DB level on the application layer).

    It's the same file I used: VMware PowerCLI - 6.0.0 - 2548067.exe

    During installation, there is an option to install the components of Air/vCD vCloud.  Looks like you have clicked then... next... then in the Setup without reading.

    I don't think it's important, but I upgraded from 5.8 (previous version).

  • Some vCenter resources do not appear in vCloud

    Dear community,

    I installed a basic test system in my computer and I have the following problem.

    I'm able to join vCenter vCloud and see networks and vCenter itself but no data store, the list of resources, politics host and storage is visible.

    version 5.5.0 vCenter 1300321

    vCloud version 5.5.2.2000523

    I have disabled/replugged/updated vCenter connection but in vain.

    I also tried Chrome incognito mode and explore, without success.

    No idea what was wrong and how to fix it?

    It sounds like something really basic is Miss.

    1 attach a vCenter isn't enough, that just create a link between vCD to vCenter.

    2. create a provider vDC associates Compute resources (must be an active DRS Cluster)... for example creating a PvDC is like saying I want to import a cluster to vCloud Director.

    3. Once you have, you can create an external network (import a port group that is available for all hosts on a given provider vdc... aka cluster (s)).

    4 import of storage policies, can be done within VDC provider itself or when you initially create the provider vDC.  Establishment of a storage strategy is a process in itself.  I do not know google can it help (I don't yet have a reference directly across from me).

  • Go to vCloud 5.5 since vSphere4

    We are migrating a large number of virtual machines to vSphere 4 in vCD 5.5. Many systems migrate without problem, but a substantial number migrate OK and start the first time but after the VMware tools update when the system restarts I can connect but there is no office or start menu. This happens for all users. I watched Microsoft KBs on this issue, and most of the articles say it's a matter of malware. All these virtual machines are either ir McAfee latest trend AV and are analysed regularly both with the installed AV and go outside so I do not think is the question. It seems to happen after running the customization of comments. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? I have migrated a lot of systems and have not run into this before starting to move development systems, building systems, etc. Some of them are quite old, but I had their owners install all patches from Microsoft and patches before you migrate them without result. Pointers would be most appreciated.

    Hello

    1. were you able to pinpoint exact OS flavor? As Windows 2000/2003? If so, you've set up folders sysprep? VMware KB: creating packages Microsoft Sysprep on VMware vCloud Director cell

    2. take a look in the vSphere infrastructure, at the events tab of the virtual machine. See if there are newspapers indicating that customization of guest operating system has failed.

    3. try to migrate again one of the virtual machines that you know for sure he had problems (I don't know how do you migrate their). "Make sure that" customization of the OS invited Enable "is DISABLED in properties-> Guest OS customization of the virtual computer.  If it starts like this, then maybe there is something wrong, after execution of the customization.

    If you find / already found the problem, let everyone know here.

    Good luck.

  • vCloud Suite Enterprise vs vRealize Suite Enterprise

    Solar Eclipse Super Moon happy first day of spring.

    I have a client who is transforming their VMware environment.  One of the issues that has developed is vCloud Suite vRealize Suite vs.  I get confused answers from our partner of VMware. So I turn to the community.  VCloud Suite Enterprise "contain" vRealize Suite Enterprise?  Missing something vCloud Suite if you do not get vRealize Suite?

    It seems to me that vRealize Enterprise Suite is an option for customers who want to map the product on their existing vSphere license without getting vCloud.  I've worked with clients in the past who did something similar with MRS.

    Thank you

    Boston TechGuy

    VCloud Suite Enterprise "contain" vRealize Suite Enterprise?

    No, there are more completely separate, but it contains some features or products that are present in the two sequels.

    Missing something vCloud Suite if you do not get vRealize Suite?

    Yes, don't you remember that all differences at the moment, but for example the vRealize of automation of vCloud Suite cannot physical settings manager.

    It seems to me that vRealize Enterprise Suite is an option for customers who want to map the product on their existing vSphere license without getting vCloud.

    vRealize Suite is a platform of cloud management with the purpose of managing the hybrid cloud, which can even been non-vSphere cloud, but does include is not licensed by the hypervisor. The vCloud Suite is more related to the vSphere cloud and will include licensing for vSPhere, ESXi hypervisor and Enterprise edition licenses RS too.

  • vCloud Director or vRealize Automation?

    Hello

    I was hoping I could get some advice regarding the choice between vCloud Director and vRealize Automation. We have set up a test environment for vCloud Director however read some articles, it seems that it is a product that reaches the end of life for businesses, but not for service providers.

    So my question is a service provider should us be implementation vCloud Director or vRealize Automation? We do not want to be in a position to migrate off vCloud in a year.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Chris

    I can't make any kind of recommendation between the two, because I don't know what you want to do with the products.

    Addressing the availability of the product and the support of it:

    vCloud Director just won't be available to independently purchase and withdrew the license of the Suite from 6.x.  You must purchase the license 5.x to get it (assuming that it is available)... This aspect, if not suite your needs right now until mid-2017 (when vCloud will end support for users of the company).  From 2017, you have to make a decision as to what will replace vCloud or continue to use vCloud Director, even if we will not offer support for it.

    VRealize Automation will meet your needs?  I do not know without knowing your use case and requirements... that is for discussion of a VMware sales representative.

    Apart from all this: VSPP is the VMware service provider program.  A version of vCloud Director will exist for them, but it is precisely for them (members of the VSPP program).  Unless you work for a member of the VSPP program, the statements above concerning vCloud Director are what you think.

    If you are Member VSPP, vCloud Director for the providers of services (5.6.x) is available as the direct vcloud Director 5.5.x successor.  Then by all means we will continue to support these versions, and it can be used to manage resources like a Cloud provider.

    I had a number of people say they are service providers, which is very beautiful.  Be a VSPP means being in a specific program of VMware, which gives access to certain things (which AFAIK is vCloud for Service providers).

    I'm not trying to be harsh or terse here, but I want to just make sure we do differentiation key on what is available to whom and how.

  • Cannot find lab HOL-SDC-1314 - vCloud Suite Use Cases - application implementation service (PaaS) - use of vFabric

    Hello

    I see in some references of documents to this laboratory HOL-SDC-1314 - vCloud Suite Use Cases - updated application in service (PaaS) - use of vFabric

    However I find it.

    I also tried to change the link to: http://labs.hol.VMware.com/hol/console/lab/hol-SDC-1414-hol

    and 1514. Always without success.

    What, please, can you

    How can I find these old Labs?

    Best regards Daniel

    Hi Daniel,.

    We do not keep the old versions in the HOL given the constraints of storage cloud. The current catalog HOL approximately 30 TB of storage and we have recently taken out of service about 20 TB of old pods in order to manage the development and preparation of new laboratories for the exchange of partner and VMworld 2015. You may be able to find the old pod, or something similar in one of the other clouds internal. I suggest you look in the catalogs of sandbox to see if something might meet your needs if HOL-SDC-1421 does not provide what you need.

    All the manuals we have available can be downloaded in PDF format from the website of HOL Docs: docs.hol.vmware.com/catalog

    There is a product search option. Unfortunately, we have more manuals before 2014 available here.

  • Management Pack for vCloud Director (vROps) connection problem / authentication adapter?

    Hello

    I'm trying to configure the Management Pack for vCloud Director (Cloud Management Marketplace |) Solution Exchange) and I seem to be having trouble with the simplest thing. I have the Solution installed and configured for most, but for some reason usually reach out and join the vCD server, or have a kind of authentication problems. When I test the map with appropriate powers (local and LDAP in vCD), I get the error:

    Cannot establish a connection on the target system. Logon failed! using Host = < FQDN > User = < adminuser > @System

    The adapter puts the @System after him, or is this something so simple, that I'm more thinking than he. I'd be happy to post any kind of newspapers if needed, let me know what you need.

    Thanks a ton!

    You HAVE to put @system, as it should work with or without. the base public REST API URL is assigned within vCloud Director? See the manual page, installation 28...

    Hi guys,.

    I installed VCD 5.5, vsheild Manager and vcenter on a single ESXi 5.5 . I am facing problems with VCloud Director.Although I have attached the Vcenter Sucessfully in VCD, vcenter data not poping upward into Vcd. So the list of hosts is empty. No resouce pool are coming in Vcd.

    Here are my questions coming in my mind... I think I might get hurt

    1 then I installed VCD 5.5, vsheild Manager and vcenter on a single ESXi 5.5 host?

    2. is it a problem with the license... Although all of them are allowed until 2015. ?

    3. do I need to manually install the agent Vcd on ESXi... Although I think that this should be done automatically? If yes how to do this.

    Please tell me where I can be wrong.

    I have attached snapshots of Vcenter and VCD. Please review those and help out me

    All responses will be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Tarun Gupta

    You must create a provider vDC for nothing appear.  This requires some DRS to be on (if you don't have it already done) and requires usually two hosts in a cluster.  This is because you need to spend in maintenance mode to install the agent correctly and can vmotion powerd on the VMS of a host while the other prepares.  It's all part of the installation and Administrator's guide.

  • VCloud NAT between the networks

    Is it possible to use a deployment ended the NAT IP addresses between networks vCloud?

    Let's say I have two networks defined - a network inherited from Direct Connect using 192.168.63.0/24 and a new internal network using 192.168.10.0/24 vCloud.  I want to take VMs that existed before my vCloud Director deployment that ont.63 addresses and rely on eachother for the functionality of the application and place it under vCloud Director control.  Then I want to capture them in a paralytic, publish it on my catalog, then have the users to be able to deploy a copy closed vapp, but with adresses.10 as their NATted addresses, but retain their old adresses.63 inside the fence.

    I see no way to set a different network for NAT closing than anything he can scrounge off the vDC Org chosen network in the first place for virtual machines.  Anyone has any ideas or know of a way I can get things settled without having to re - IP all my legacy servers?

    You may not use closure for this. Either give each TIME a routed net VAPP or the NAT make ' ing to the gateway

  • vCloud 5.1 Plugin with vCO 5.5 + vCloud Director 5.5: Probable incompatibility?

    Hello

    I found that when you use the following combination vCenter Orchestrator is impossible to enumerate objects vCloud Director below the level of vDC of organization:

    • vCloud 5.5
    • vCO 5.5
    • vCloud Director Plugin for vCO 5.1
    • Logging on to the Organization of the system.

    The following error is reported in the newspapers - I pointed out the relevant sections. What seems to happen is that the following method: com.vmware.vmo.plugin.vcloud.VCloudEntityResolver.getEntityByReference is called, but fails with this exception: com.thoughtworks.xstream.converters.reflection.ObjectAccessException: javax.xml.bind.JAXBElement.name invalid final field. Is there a workaround currently available or a release of out-of-band of the vCloud Director plugin compatible with 5.5?

    Any help beyond "this is an unsupported configuration", and "a compatible plugin will be released later this year" would be appreciated, because we depend on vCO to supply our daily operations.

    XStream library must be updated to version 1.4.4 + to make it work with Java 7.

    Try the following (no guarantee that this will work, however)

    1. Stop the server vCO
    2. Locate the plugin files in your deployment of vCO directory (/ app-server/plugins/o11nplugin-vcloud.dar) and save it in a location sure.
    3. Open it with a program that can read zip files (like WinZip, WinRAR, etc.) and go to "lib" folder
    4. There should be a file named 'xstream - 1.x.y.jar'. Most likely, you will see "xstream - 1.3.1.jar' (version 1.3.1)"
    5. You need to replace by ' xstream - 1.4.4.jar' and maybe add a library more - ' xmlpull - 1.1.3.1.jar'. If you can't find these libraries on the Web, I can send them to you by e-mail.
    6. Remove directories temporary tomcat in the vCO directory (/ app-server/work /, / app-server/temp /)
    7. Start the server vCO

    I don't have a working vCloud environment to test, so it cannot work without having to recompile the plugin, but it won't hurt to try.
