Go to vCloud 5.5 since vSphere4

We are migrating a large number of virtual machines to vSphere 4 in vCD 5.5. Many systems migrate without problem, but a substantial number migrate OK and start the first time but after the VMware tools update when the system restarts I can connect but there is no office or start menu. This happens for all users. I watched Microsoft KBs on this issue, and most of the articles say it's a matter of malware. All these virtual machines are either ir McAfee latest trend AV and are analysed regularly both with the installed AV and go outside so I do not think is the question. It seems to happen after running the customization of comments. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? I have migrated a lot of systems and have not run into this before starting to move development systems, building systems, etc. Some of them are quite old, but I had their owners install all patches from Microsoft and patches before you migrate them without result. Pointers would be most appreciated.

Hello

1. were you able to pinpoint exact OS flavor? As Windows 2000/2003? If so, you've set up folders sysprep? VMware KB: creating packages Microsoft Sysprep on VMware vCloud Director cell

2. take a look in the vSphere infrastructure, at the events tab of the virtual machine. See if there are newspapers indicating that customization of guest operating system has failed.

3. try to migrate again one of the virtual machines that you know for sure he had problems (I don't know how do you migrate their). "Make sure that" customization of the OS invited Enable "is DISABLED in properties-> Guest OS customization of the virtual computer.  If it starts like this, then maybe there is something wrong, after execution of the customization.

If you find / already found the problem, let everyone know here.

Good luck.

  • MCAK for vCloud Director 5.1

    Hello

We use the most recent MultiCloud since vCloud Director but now look at upgrading to vCenter vCloud Director 5.1.

I had seen a mention of help soon with version 5.1 of vCD, but did not see if it is available, or in what version it will be.

Would you be able to give an indication of support for this version, please?

    Kind regards

    Paul

You should have no problem with the latest version of MCAK vCloud Director 5.1. All the features of the IAC has been verified. What is not yet supported is 5.1 VCD API, so you would not be able to take advantage of the new features of the product/API with the adapter IN VCD (although you can always write your own custom using HTTP requests process to call the new REST API directly).

Is it still possible to download an ova on vCloud Air with a browser?

You must use Ovftool. Here's how I downloaded a paralytic, I haven't downloaded anything yet since I had to spend to the Ovf, but reversing a little my order should work:

    OVFTool ' vcloud://myloginaccount: @ us-virginia-1-4 - vchs.vmware.com:? org = [my guid org] & Vcc = [myvdcname] & vapp = [myvapp] & catalog = "Catalog of Jeff" "c:\jeff.ovf

  • Director of miniature console unavailable question vcloud

Since we have updated the vCloud, I am experiencing an intermittent problem of "VM console miniature unavailable question vCloud Director."

    Screenshot can be controlled with

We have had this problem several times. In our case the support VMware clearly had us on inventory data that vCD maintains in its database as it gets vcenter. It seems that this may become corrupted or out of sync but by turning off the tables in the database force a re-synchronization complete. vCD uses these inventory information to create a REST API query to get the sticker in vCenter.

  • vCloud Director 5.5 device - limits

    Hi all

Is there any vmware document that specifies the boundaries of the vCloud Director 5.5 device? I know it is trial / PoC and should not be used in a Production Env, but I am interested in a CEP more complex and has been reading here: the vCloud Director unit. VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs limitations:

Now the vCloud Director device it has some limitations.  As it is only intended for vCloud Director assessments, the scale of the deployment is limited to:

    • A cell of vCloud Director
    • Two vCenter servers
    • 10 VDC organization
    • 100 virtual machines
    • Up to 11 GB of information stored in the database shipped

Being a former link, I'm sure that is more up-to-date and these limitations have increased, but would like to find something about it.

I know it supports CentOS, but unfortunately in this PoC I do not have a Windows Server (will also use the vCenter device) and any database.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

We produce is no longer the device.  One of the limitations would be so you don't have updates for it.  The limits are generally the same as what you posted.

CentOS support any really, since the device is produced as a black box.  SuSE or CentOS according to what version it is.  The embedded DB have size limits.

If you do a CEP more complex, I suggest to use the BIN on CentOS Installer and have at least 2 vCloud Director of cells in a load balanced configuration.  Several cells is something you just can't do with the device.

  • Unable to change the threshold of space - vCloud Director 5.5 data store

    Hello everyone,

Just finished installing my vCloud instance and now I want to change the 'disk space thresholds' for a cluster data store.

The thing is: I can't. The buttons and boxes are blocked, as it is impossible to do.

    Path was:

    Manage and monitor > provider VDC > open_my_provider_vdc > warehouses of data tab > right-click_the_datastore_cluster > properties

Question is whether a standalone data store or cluster of the data store.

I've attached a picture with the question.

I don't know if this is a permission problem since I am connected with the system administrator.

Has anyone ever seen this problem?

    Thank you very much.

you do not change the it.  thresholds are not set in the provider.

    Manage & monitor > warehouses > right-click > properties.

org network is like a network of the VAPP/VM can connect to.

If you do an org network, create a vApp and attach the virtual machine directly to the org network.

However, if you have only 1 group of ports in the pool of network... you get ONLY 1 network (org or vapp) not both.

In almost all cases I've seen, they do not use a Port supported group pool... VXLAN or vCNI are the most common options.  for most since a single vLAN = 1000 + networks.

If you wanted a network to the 'outside world' remove your network pool (separate from the org vdc after all are deleted), create an external network to the system (via the port group)... make an external network in the Organization related to System.  then put a virtual machine on the network it will directly in the external network.

having a pool of network could do an extra layer.  like having a local network with a gateway to the outside world.

  • Will vcloud Director 5.5 compatible with vsphere 5.1U1?

    Hey,.

We vSphere 5.1U1 running in production and we look at vCloud Director 5.5 for the deployment. But VMware does not have a virtual Director 5.1 appliance and we do not want to buy a server, Redhat enterprise server (we could upgrade vSphere 5.1u1 soon, but due the Veem, we cannot now). Since VMware provides the virtual appliance for vCloud Director 5.5, so I got this question that I can't answer in VMware documents:

Will vCloud Director 5.5 compatible with vSphere 5.1U1?

    Thank you

Yes vCloud Director 5.5 is compatible with vSphere 5.1U1.

  • vmotion in vcloud 5.1 configuration

We are running vcloud Director 5.1. The cluster backend wasn't originally setup with vmotion because we had no dedicated network. We are now successfully vcloud vapps and would add vmotion for the cluster. I read that there may be problems of vcloud after toggle DRS, I wanted to ask if anyone has seen the same thing with vmotion. Thank you

vMotion is independent of vCloud Director.  You shouldn't do anything in vCloud Director at all.  Simply configure kernel ports as required and out of the race.

If you have not configured for vMotion, DRS we that will perform the initial placement of the virtual machine... then more nothing else (since there is no mechanism to allow automatic movement of virtual machines).

  • Problem creating provider vDC on the way vCloud 5.1 of the Evaluation Guide

I'm folling the vCloud 5.1 Evaluation Guide.  Well, everything seems to be going, but when I try to create my first provider vDC, I have problems.  At the level of the vCD, I said just that operation exceeded all trying to install the agent on one of my two esx hosts.  Interestingly, it is the host on which I have installed the vShield Manager on.  When I dig down in the plain of vCenter, I see more specific complaints n the event logs for the hosts.

Apparently, the host must be turned off (for the installation of the agent vCloud, I guess) and this requires a migration of DRS of the vShield Manager vm to my other host.  This migration will fail.  And here is the most relevant information of the event.

DRS could not generate a recommendation of vMotion for a virtual machine on a host of passage in Maintenance Mode. This incident occurs usually because no other host in the cluster DRS is compatible with the virtual machine. Unless you migrate manually or turn off this virtual machine, the host will not be able to enter into Maintenance Mode.

Sounds pretty accurate, but I have no idea what could cause problems of "compatibility" with the other guests.  As far as I know, they are the same.  I certainly meant them to be.  The store of data that the virtual machine is on is a store of data shared between two hosts, as far as I can tell.

    Troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

the ESXi host is not off... the host is put in maintenance mode.

In an ideal world, you'd have vCenter/vShield in a different cluster your vCloud deployed VMs.

To do this, you must ensure you DRS is in fully automatic mode, and vMotion actually works.

Aside from that, if you create a provider vDC and prepare all hosts, they can all try mode of maintenance on their own.

It is somewhat a clumsy scenario... Since you cannot move the virtual machines on a host of passage in maintenance mode.

so, although if failed, if we lend... see if you can prepare the failed host... this time, it can work.
