VCO 5.5 on vCenter 5.0 installation (SSO)?

Hello

We lack vCenter 5.0 Update 3. We were assigned to installing vCenter Orchestrator. Preference version 5.5.

I have read a lot on the subject. SSO is quite often mentioned, but we have to 5.0... Is it possible to install it without SSO?

Thank you in advance.

/ Pete

Yes, you can install vCO using LDAP authentication.

  • Question of vCO Port connecting to vCenter

    Hi all

I have a problem that I hope can be easily solved. I'm pretty sure I know what the question is, just not how to correct it. When I created vCO to connect to vCenter I get the error "Exception," org.apache.http.conn.HttpHostConnectException: connection to http://vcenter.domain.com:80 denied ' "» What I know about the environment, vCenter here is actually using port 8080 for http connections. I can't change this behavior in vCO so far. Here are two screenshots for configuration and the error itself:

    vco_config.png

    vco_error.png

No way to change the port vCO tries to use on the side of http, or just something that I'm missing (seems likely )?

    Thank you!

    jaytindel,

Apparently I completely missed this all the time, while I was completely up to date with the generation which implement a 'solution' to this question, there is always a workaround solution that must be followed. A VMware support engineer guided me to a KB and using the solution of creating a workflow to add the vCenter Server works in fact for me. This is the KB:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=2042461

Let me know if you encounter any problems with it.

  • CA-signed SSL certificates on vCenter 5.1 installation (server or device)

I recently updated my 5.0 to 5.1 ESXi ESXi hosts and they all kept CA-signed SSL certificates that I installed previously. I did a new install of vCenter 5.1 server where the box even ran SSO, inventory, vCenter Server and Manager Update Services. After installing, everything worked perfectly except that none of the vCenter services used my CA-signed SSL certificate - only 5.1 ESXi hosts had these.

So, I followed the instructions in replacing default vCenter 5.1 and ESXi certificates PDF found at http://www.vmware.com/resources/techresources/10318. The document is terrible. For example, page 10 lists the locations by three default certificates SSL on Windows 2008. None of these paths are correct. The first a typo of extra space between "Program" and "Data" and the other two say "Program Files" when they should have been "ProgramData". This is just the beginning of the problems.

If you follow the instructions to the letter, you'll break vCenter. I got frustrated and thought I'd give the vCenter 5.1 device a shot. With regard to the Certificates SSL signed by CA, it was worse. The vCenter 5.1 device can even automatically generate a new SSL certificate if you change the host name (turn on generation auto-certificat, change of hostname and restart). It gives an error 653 during the boot process and keeps the original of the certificate. Even bother trying the steps on page 18 of the above-mentioned guide - you will get just the same mistake 653.

It seems to me that VMware did not all tests around the CA-signed SSL certificate on vCenter 5.1 installation. It's amazing to me that the installation of the SSL certificate is so tedious for ESXi and vCenter when vShield Manager 5.1 has a very simple process that works well (and is similar to the installation procedure for Certificate SSL on the DRAC, ASR, breeding various firewalls, etc.).

I did a lot of research on Google and found various articles on the installation of the SSL certificate, but most were based on GA pre - 5.1 products. If you have any installation of certificates SSL CA-signed success with vCenter Server or device 5.1 GA, let me know how you got around some of these issues. Please indicate if your vCenter Server or device will run on a 5.1 GA ESXi host as well. Please do not answer about vCenter 5.0 - I had no problem with SSL certificates (other than it was more painful to be).

    Thanks in advance,

    Nate

Finally I managed to install giving him to 127.0.0.1 instead of the period of INVESTIGATION, accessible from the outside of the vCenter server, it's very well in my case the vCenter and VUM server are on the same VM but its not exactly ideal for deployments of more large.

  • Get smashed on vCenter 5.1 Setup SSO

    VMWare experts,

Get smashed on the vCenter 5.1 Setup SSO and I was wondering if I could get assistance.

That's what I've done so far:

    1.) Execute the "rsaIMSLiteMSSQLSetupTables.sql".

2.) change only the part "C:\Changeme" of the script that has been 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.SQL2K8R2\MSSQL\DATA '.

3.) Execute the script that creates a database named RSA

I then went to vCenter install Simple which began by installing the SSO, I set myself on.

Under Database Type: I chose MSSQL:

I paint a white following the syntax remaining fields.

The names of the affected servers are:

Name of the SQL Server: TEST - SQL01.test.local

    Named instance of SQL: SQL2K8R2

vCenter Server: TEST - VC01.test.local (where I install the SSO, inventory service, etc.)

No idea on what to set for name of database, Windows, JDBC URL, authentication etc.

I tried to follow the installation guide and there was no mention of whether I needed to implement ODBC connections or something like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Of course, I'll be happy to help you, Tony!  Of course, I thought the vSphere 5.1 Setup Guide and was a little kludgy SSO, too.

Assuming that you already had a MSSQL DB taken in charge and install SSO on another virtual Windows computer or server (SSO vCenter separation is a best practice), here is what I recommend to you present to SSO with a database of MSSQL remote (not a local MSSQLEXPRESS).

Note: Your Windows SSO server does not belong to an AD domain at this point because you can combine SSO with AD al later through the Web Client of VirtualCenter, but if she is joined before running the installation of SSO, it will save you this step.

While there may be other methods supported to install SSO, here are the basic steps that worked for me:

    • Locate the rsaIMSLiteMSSQLSetupTables.sql on the installation of vCenter 5.1 ISO ([drive]: \Single Sign On\DBScripts\SSOServer\schema\mssql\) and double-click it in the MSSQL Server, which will open in SQL Management Studio for editing running.
    • Change the paths of the three[C:\CHANGEME\...] in the SQL script with the file appropriate to your DBs & Trans newspapers railways.  In my case, I put the DB and indexes on D:\MSSQL\DB and on E:\MSSQL\LOGS newspapers
    • Run the script, and if all goes well, he will create a RSA in MSSQL database and successfully complete
    • [IMPORTANT] Right-click on the top level of SQL Server icon and select Properties, select Security and select Windows and SQL Server authentication mode (it is now a requirement of VMware as indicated on page 241 of vSphere 5.1 Setup Guide and) and click OK.
    • Restart MSSQL & Agent of Service for this setting to take effect.
    • Create a new SQL user account (i.e. sso) in MSSQL Server-> Security-> connections in the hierarchy of SQL Management Studio (make sure that the account does not require that you must change the password during its first connection) and give it to the server role SYSADMIN and dbo in the DB of RSA under mapping of users, click OK.
      • Note: You can avoid running the other SQL 'users' script mentioned in thevSphere 5.1 Installation Guide and for creating user SSO if you do this step and let the SSO installation program create the necessary users to the site.
    • Sign in to your soon SSO Windows server as administrator
      • Note: Ensure that your Windows server is properly would be hostname, IP would be, with before and would reverse DNS synchronization and clocks.  See the documentation for the other terms, if necessary.  You can join an AD domain if you want right now.
    • Start the program installation 5.1 SSO to the ISO 5.1 vCenter vCenter.
    • Create a main node for SSO (assuming this is your first), click Next.
    • Select to create the head for a new Single Sign-On installation vCenter node (which you can later), click Next.
    • Enter a master password that you want to use for SINGLE sign-on, click Next.
    • Select use an existing supported database, click Next
      • Note: Because SSO uses JDBC, there is no need to create an ODBC System DSN for SSO.
    • Enter RSAin the database name field, enter your MSSQL Server's FULL domain name in the field name of host or IP address and, finally, enter sso (from my example above) the database username and the password you created, click Next.
      • Note: nothing else on this page must be changed
    • Fill in the name of the SSO (not the IP address!) server FQDN, click Next.
    • Keep the box using network service account, click Next
      • Note: Given that I had really no specific guidance on the use of a service with SSO account, I just went with the default for now.  Perhaps in the future I will use a service account, but given the SSO is somehow independent AD I thought to go with a choice course and do not a service account AD which can be revoked if SSO is seconded of this announcement in the future.
    • Select your preferred installation folder, click Next.
    • Keep the port by default, click Next.
    • Click on install!

SSO should install correctly and to create user accounts appropriate SQL called RSA_USER & RSA_DBA.

    • Disable or remove the sso SQL Admin account you created as it is no longer necessary once the SSO is installed.

Then, to install the Service to vCenter inventory where you want as well as the vCenter Server and Web Client (i.e. separate VMs)

Tip: You can only connect to vCenter 5.1 by using a local administrator (Windows) via vSphere Client 5.1 account.  To establish the rights vCenter to administrator in a Windows/AD user account (assuming that SSO was associated by AD), first open a session in vCenter (via vSphere Client 5.1) using admin as username and the SSO master password , you created during the installation of SSO.  Which will take you in and you can make adjustments if necessary permission.

Before that I'm totally flamed for what others might offer as a way of more refined for SSO rose, I realize VMware offers a few different implementation approaches and perhaps best practices will emerge in the coming months.  My intention was to share my success with Tony in SSO getting online and I hope this helps other people faced with this new service of vCenter.

Please do not hesitate to comment on everything that you feel could be improved with these general installation steps or let me know how it worked for you.

Is it possible to add an existing installation of Vcenter 6 incorporated to an external controller of the PSC so I can use related modes. ? The current problem is that we already have a server Vcenter 6 existing, we want to rebuild.

I think you can build a machine of the PSC and reposition the node from the existing to the new PSC Management Server.

  • vCenter 5.5 Installation stops after SSO

    Hello

Just downloaded a copy of eval for vCenter 5.5 and when I try to do a simple installation nothing happens after AUTHENTICATION is complete. I tried this on 2012 and 2008 R2. I have to manually install the rest of the components (inventory, vCenter, web). In vCenter 5.1 everything I had to do is hit the facility, the Simple installation menu button and everything worked very well. Is this a known issue? already?

  • vCenter 5.5 installation failure.

    Hello guys,.

It's a new Windows 2008 R2 server installed from scratch with all updates.  vCenter Single Sign-On, Web Client and inventory Service is installed with no problem, but when installing vCenter Server, it gives and error with the following message:

The wizard was interrupted before that vmware vcenter could be completely installed. Check the log of the vim-vci-msi files.  I've also attached the log file, to which it refers.  I already tried KB article 2013922 http://goo.gl/tTjBMQ but no change. I don't see anything obvious that could cause the installation to fail.  Thanks for your help.

I could install the vCenter indented the server in the domain, and then log in as local administrator account. Everything went smoothly after that. I don't know why it won't let me install when you use the domain administrator account.

    Thanks for your help.

  • VCenter server virtual installation vs. physical

Could Hello everyone, you give me advice on how to implement Vcenter server in Vsphere 4.1? Physical or virtual Vcenter server installation? Thanks for your help

I used vCenter virtualized servers in environments of production for a couple of years now... I did first minus 3.5 and did in 4.0 and 4.1 with no problems at all... Performance of the vCenter Server (in production environments) has never been a problem due to using enterprise grade, powerful host servers storage and put them in place properly (all the environment too)...

Beyond the benefits already mentioned to go with a vCenter Server virtual (that I've seen in action) I'll second the mention of make it easier to administer all of your environment... The savings are not to be rejected either... Not only can you save by not having no no need to have another Canon of material (even if it's the one you had in hand and simply re - purpose it) you save on power and the breakdown of costs (not a small amount per year on the old boxes)... There is also the added benefit of the higher speeds of communication (VM for VM networks run very fast)...

With respect to the complexity that it could bring your network... Not really... Unless you are about to run out of IP addresses on your network (which would require either expand your subnet to allow more addresses or add another subnet within your DHCP server) you can just assing the IP address of the virtual machine (really simple) i.e. the vCenter Server... Unless you have hundreds of servers, you should not need to another range of VLAN / subnet for the virtual environment...

I think you're really too complicate the coast network of things too... Think of it this way... Your host servers are intellectual property will 10.1.1.x, if you place the vCenter Server on the same IP range (a single system more on this beach)... You place your VM on the IP range, they are too (can be the same, may be different) linking the port of Machine Group virtual host NIC to physical switch ports correctly. Depending on your storage/SAN, you plug these host ports to correct physical switch ports...

Do not plan things for how things are going to interconnects. That being said, it is not a surgery of the brain here... I advise you intend having redundancy at the physical level of switch NIC and host for all connections... As two NIC for the management of the network, x 2 NIC / ports for traffic of the VM port group (depending on the size of the cluster/County of VM, you will need to have enough connections to support the claim), x 2 NIC / ports for SAN connectivity, etc... This is why I generally 8-10 NIC / ports in each host I've implemented (production level hosts)... This includes (in general) the four s Integrated NIC, so adding a pair of dual-port, or a quad (always class Intel server NIC is there), or a combination, to each host.

If you're having trouble designing the configuration of your network, view information such as the physical switches (and how the ports are configured so divided into several VLAN) for regular traffic and SAN connections, host configurations (include the two how many ports on board and through additional cards), SAN brand/model (and how which many network/controllers there how many ports per controller) etc... See also how you plan to put it all and will help people here making sure what did it right (or even better for the environment, in which it is to enter)... If the network is already installed, works well, and looking just to put more things in place (within the cluster) is something else...

  • vCO 5.5.1 & vCenter 5.5.1 - accessible Datastore: false, only showing freespace and capacity, put in incorrect space service

    Hello

Properties vc:datastore (GB) and freeSpace (GB) capacity display 0 (zero) in the vCO Client, for all data stores in my inventory (SAN & local). I noticed that the 'accessible' property is set to false on all data warehouses. ProvisionedSpace (GB) shows also the incorrect values. I tried to get the reason for the data store is inaccessible by using the vcHostMountInfo script object, but so far no luck (I think that the release is not a string, so Datastore.host.mountInfo.inaccessibleReason will not work).

Everyone knows the same question in their environments?

This is caused by the service of inventory... disable the use of the service of the inventory to the vCO by adding the following line to vmo.properties

    com VMware.o11n.vim.useInventoryService = false

Restart the service of vco-server after making the change.

  • vCenter virtual appliance Installation on shared storage

    Hello

I'll start testing virtualization soon, and for storage, I'll use a Synology NAS DS212j. My goal is to create a cluster with two servers ESXi, with the virtual machines stored on the NAS.

My question is should I plug my nas iSCSI on my ESXi and then deploy the model to the OVA of the appliance virtual vcenter or deploy the eggs on the physical storage of one of my ESXi and then I try it moved to the shared storage?

I'm not sure if my question is simple, but thank you for your answer!

    C. N.

    Happy, I can help you

You must configure the iSCSI conifguration for each host, Yes.

But the second and all other guests later then analyze the map iSCSI and see the VMFS data store that you created with the first host and set up automatically.

You don't need to add each host in the cluster even if. You only do that when you want to use functions such as HA and DRS on the hosts within the cluster.

  • vCenter operating system Installation

    Hi all

We have the operating system of windows 2008r2 that we installed vCenter 5.1. We have configured all hosts, licenses and the SAN configuration of virtual machines. Now, we are facing a problem with the tape library, according to the seller, it is a problem of operating system, this is the reason why the tape library is not detected.

Now my question, do I need to make a backup of vCenter server, how to make a backup of vCenter vCenter licenses status and what will be the status of the VM?

Ask you to focus on the above please.,.

What changes of operating system do you need to do?

The key to save vCenter is to save the vCenter database because this is where the vCenter environment is stored. VCenter stoppage will not affect running virtual machines - what will lose you is Drs the ability of vMotion and SRM protection if you have. HA will not be affected.

Can I buy two Standard vSphere licenses and a vSphere Essentials Kit License HA and vMotion? The price including 1 year support package would be $3 430 instead of the vSphere Essentials Plus of a package (for 3 machines) to $4 369

If this is not the case, what makes different product versions? Is it possible for vMotion/HA for only two guests at a lower price?

The answer is no, vSphere Essentials only can be used with the host Essentials license license and may not be used with another license.

The second answer is Yes, use the essential package more vSphere. It includes VMotion and HA.
