This is the command I am trying to use.  I am just running directly in with the cmdlet view loaded PowerCLI powershell command window.  The Virtual Machine name (-id) is obtained using the command Get-DesktopVM, so I know it's good.  I tried with a couple of virtual machines.  The query Get-DesktopVM also States that isInPool = false so that can't be buggered me upward.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.  It seems that everything simply, it does not find the virtual machine... but the name is correct, and various data collection 'get' commands work with this ID. VM unfortunately, not much good information out there on view PowerCLI and diddly for Add-ManualPool examples.

Just tried this and I think that the field id is case-sensitive - you must use a virtual machine in tiny i.e. VirtualMachine-vm-75557

  • VMware View | PowerCLI | How to get the number of virtual machine in a specific pool-ID

    Hello

Generally, to get the number of VMS in a pool, I run this command:

    Get-pool | Select Pool_id, @{Name = "NumVM"; Expression = {($_ |)} (Get - DesktopVM). County}} | out-gridview

But how can I list all the pools and then select the pool I want a county of?

    Maybe something like:

    Select 1 for accounts

    Select 2 for Marketing

and then County VM just for this pool and immediate where at the output (Out-gridview or Export-CSV)

    Thanks, Julien

    Hi LucD

    I don't understand the line:

    1.. $pools. County | %{
    Write-Host "$_" $Pools [$_ - 1]. Name

Why do we need the 1...

Also is the same as get-get-resourcepool pool?

  • Cannot launch PowerCLI view view 4.5

    Hello

I have two server running on View 4.5.
I need to use the view command, but whenever I try to run the VMware View PowerCLI, I got the same error on these two server.

Add-PSSnapin: Windows PowerShell "VMware.View.Broker" snap-in is not installed on this computer.

    D:\apps\VMware\VMware View\Server\extras\PowerShell\add-snapin.ps1:30 tank: 14

    + CategoryInfo: InvalidArgument: (VMware.View.Broker:String) [Add-PSSnapin], PSArgumentException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId: AddPSSnapInRead, Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.AddPSSnapinCommand

I try to install it manually.

In the 45 view integration guide: the script for the view PowerCLI cmdlets configuration file is named InitViewCmdlets.ps1.

    I can't find this script.

    Made several resettlement.

    If someone has an idea

OK, it seems as if the script is the choice the InstallUtil 32-bit rather than 64-bit.

Can you try to run the following command to install the snap?

    C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\installutil \bin\PowershellServiceCmdlets.dll

Where is where you installed your connection to the server.

If this works, run the script should work, because it will not try again to install the snap and just load using Add-PSSnapin.

As much as I know there is no cmdlet PowerCLI for this, but you can use the Invoke-VMScript cmdlet and interrogate the Win32_Product class.

By running the following. You can add a Where clause to return only the Agent of the view

    Get-WmiObject-class Win32_Product | Select the name, Version

  • Get the path of the last snapshot!

    Hey guys,.

So, I'm working on automating a recomposition. My current line is the following:

    Get-DesktopVM-pool_id Pool_Name | Send-LinkedCloneRecompose-annex ((Get-Date).) AddMinutes (2))-parentVMPath ' vm/pathforvm / ' - parentSnapshotPath "I/NEED/HELP/HERE" - $false - $false stopOnError forceLogoff

So, here's the tricky part. I would like to redial the most recent, that I took with instant. However, I see no easy controls to get the path of the last snapshot. Is it possible that I can get the path of the last snapshot and then store it only in $snapshot and then run my command like parentSnapshotPath - $snapshotpath?

    Thanks for the help!

I think that we could talk about different things here.

What you call PowerCLI, is indeed View PowerCLI, the PSSnapin to work with your environment from view.

Then, PowerCLI itself, there is a set of modules and PSSnapins to work with your vSphere environment.

The latter contains the cmdlets Get - VM and Get-Snapshot, I used in the above script.

To use the script, you need both.

There are several options here, as I documented in my blog.

You can install PowerCLI (for vSphere) on your connection to the server, then run the script on the login server.

The other option is to install PowerCLI (for vSphere) on your workstation.

To view PowerCLI cmdlets then use you the remote sessions on the login server.

    I hope that clarifies.

  • pwercli Vs Powershell

I haven't used HyperV as much, how many % of powercli script will work for hyperv whether or how cmdlets are the same? I'm sure that they do not have HA or DRS, but something else for the same set of features, I wonder how this will work for hyper V MS patches because so often, do they put host mode maint... Any link good doc for comparison of daily life for the automation of view Powercli Vs Powershell?

    Thank you

If we compare the set of Hyper-V cmdlets against applets command PowerCLI, is like comparing apples and pears.

    Both serve different platforms.

You will be able to reuse part of the logic of your scripts.

For example life cycle management script will essentially look the same, except that you need to use different cmdlets.

As for books, there is the book of christophe Microsoft Hyper-V PowerShell automation which is quite good.

  • Small Question about Advanced Configuration settings

When you change an advanced value of a VM, why the new object is created

    New-Object VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigSpec

When we look at the object of $vm.extensiondata.config this object looks like for me VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineConfigInfo no "context".

So my question... to rephrase and perhaps provide some clarification... Why is context and not ConfigInfo?

Objects of the type of information are present when you retrieve a vSphere object, objects of type Spec are used when you configure a vSphere object.

It's the Get-ter and Set-ter from the point of view PowerCLI cmdlets.

  • PowerCLI: Get - view filters and OR conditions

    Hi all

I'm little a beginner when it comes to tools from command-line and scripting in general, but I was playing around with PowerCLI and Get - view in particular and I wanted to understand if there was a way to specify multiple conditions and a 'GOLD' between them make in filters.
    Something like...

    Notice-EEG - ViewType VirtualMachine-filter @{name = "ABC123" or snapshot! = "} # does not work

I took a glance at the documentation and I was unable to find a solution, but maybe a more experienced writer can confirm this?
    Thank you!

I'm afraid, this is not possible, that all expressions in the filter hash table must comply.

So, indeed, all expressions are AND-ed together.

You can make a combination of two Get - sight lines of course.

But I admit that this solution is not elegant or optimal.

  • View remote PowerCli execution

I'm trying to create a script that will run a vm VDI reset when an alarm is triggered in vcenter and say remote view connection broker to update this vm.

While the actual mechanism for the vm name and the command to run a discount are not big thing, I am hanging in the part of the script Add-pssnapin.  Whenever I run it, the error "Add-PSSnapin: Windows PowerShell"VMware.View.Broker"snap-in is not installed on this computer." appears.  the script connects to the agent of connection and if I manually turn the Add-pssnapin command to a powershell prompt, it works. How can I get the add-pssnapin to work from the script?

    set-executionpolicy RemoteSigned
    Enter-PSSession - ComputerName < view server connection >
    Add-PSSnapin VMware.View.Broker #-ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

I'm afraid that this is not possible, see André after remote use of VMware.View.Broker PowerCLI
