• Virtual Machine NIC failure!

  I have a virtual machine (Windows 2003) environmental ESX 3 and I am facing a problem with it.     It was working fine and when I gave restart the NIC got automatically uninstalled and installed a new adapter.  Earlier network adapter was showing 'local area' connection and now its display "Local 2" network connection. When I assign a static IP address to "connecting to the network space 2" its gving me a warning that "IP is already used by another card.  So I tried to remove the old NIC that is not visible now. I ran the command "set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES = 1" and in the Device Manager click on 'show hidden devices '. But no use of it.  I could still see the old NIC ghosts.  I also referred a KB article and opportunity utility DEVCON to uninstall the old network card. Still no use.

  The solution I want to remove all entries from the old card and make sure that one adapter is there in my VM.

  How can I now delete the old NIC ghost?

  You should exect two command (set then Device Manager) from the SAME console.

• Solitaire 6.0 for Vista is doomed to failure

  My spider solitaire works very well but the regular soitaire seems to be virtually doomed to failure.  I won only one game on 50 that would never happen with real cards.  Is this software game corrupted somehow, or was it made to be extremely frustrating on purpose?

  Since Janauray the 8th we have problems with ISE. problem encounter were end of endpoint profiling devices like (Cisco 1140 AP) but the devices is a portable Motorola running Windows CE. Also the mac address of Motorola deleted endpoint identity, every 4 to 6 hours, and we need to put the mac address manually to start the authentication to work.

  We open a cisco with TAC. and TAC advice there is a bug in the software and must be upgraded to patch 17 or be upgraded to 1.4 as EHT it more stable than version 2.

  a few days later after one of the node POL3 (in the language of cisco PSN) went down. and one of our clinets SSID WiFi lost the connection that they were unable to authenticate (security WLC are on POL3 with ISE group created AD HOC Network devices with filtering MAC.) to solve the problem, we change the WLC AAA to POL1 (PSN) security to make it work. given that his work.

We are a hospital and all verification devices/doctor patients computers/handheld devices/records are authenticated through ISE. We using ISE mainly for the wireless.

  Now, it's the background story. now, I have a question can reload us the POL nodes 1 by 1 to resolve this problem. I also noticed there is another work around, we had another node ISE from another hospital of trust in our data center. It is a virtual appliance (ise - psn.web.com) in our controller ip address SSID (WLC) one of our leading hospitals of authentication setting two AAA is POL1 and next is the ip address of the ISE - PSN. WEB.COM if we recharge our ise and wlc, we note the ip address of the ISE - PSN. WEB.COM will be this keep the SSID client remains connected.

  To answer your questions:

  #1. I would certainly recommend the upgrade to a later version of ISE or at least get your current version on the last patch!

  #2. Yes, you can reload the Ssnp one at a time with zero and without interruption of service. Your WLC detects that your first PSN is down and then move to the second that is configured under the SSID > AAA servers. It is very important that your PSN is in a node group. This way if the PSN-1 goes down, none of the sessions that have been in the middle of the AAA process will get absorbed by another node in node group. If the PSN is not in a group of clients node trying to authenticate to the network at the time of charging will have to start again.

  #3. Once that clients are authenticated and authorized their rail traffic is no longer the PSN. So, reload the PSN will not affect clients that are already on the network. However, if a customer needs to re-auth (in due to inactivity, slowed down or re-auth timer) then a job THAT PSN is necessary, otherwise the AAA session will fail.

  #4. Certainly, you can set up a third NHPS under your SSID and use your PSN which is in another hospital. As long as this node is located in the same deployment of ISE and is synchronized with the PAN then you should be good to go. You can quickly test it by creating a temporary SSID > do as PSN its main Radius Server > test it with a test computer.

• I reinstall CS4 after failure of hard drive and everything works except Acrobat 9 Pro. I'm under El Capitan on MacbookPro. I reinstalled Acrobat but when I open I only get Word to Acrobat in the finder without options and it does not open.

  I reinstall the CS4 Master Collection after failure of the card logical and all work EXCEPT Acrobat 9 Pro. I'm under El Capitan on a Macbook Pro. The program worked with El Capitan until the logic board failure - I use it every day.  I reinstalled the entire Collection, but when I open I get that Word to Acrobat in the finder without other menus - the application does not open. As a first step, I get an error message.

  Thanks for the explanation. I actually have to install Acrobat and it now works. I downloaded and installed Adobe Reader XI (I think, http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/mac/11.x/11.0.02/en_US/AdbeRdr11002_en_US.dmg ) and opened the program. I noticed that after I opened the new drive, my Adobe Reader 9 program began to work. After that, I tried to open Acrobat and instead of getting the error 6 message that I had before, I had an error on a question of license that would require me to uninstall and reinstall the software. Once I did these steps my Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro started working! Don't know why my program, but it is fully functional again. I hope it helps someone else, I have why I came to answer.

• 12 usual Workstation upgrade disaster. Upgrade process is completely broken.

  Is not surprised at all. Been here before over and over. Is there an update of the workstation then it is best to avoid it altogether.  However, like a fool, I fell for the trap and thought to myself "it is not totally fail this time".  Wrong again.

  I will say that I have a full suite of VMware in the office and servers ESXi 5.5 and vSphere and the entire cluster of good things and it's a great enterprise class software. The WorkStation product has been pretty darn cool in the last decade but I learned, or should have understood now, once you have it work never touch or update. Never. Just don't.

  So I have WorkStation 12 Pro installed on a Red Hat Enterprise 6.8 machine which has terabytes of storage in mirror and 32 GB of memory with a collection of AMD Opteron processors, and it's a real workhorse that is running VMware WorkStation for years. I had every major release since WorkStation 5 and I go through this process once every few years. The dreaded disaster, called "update".  I made the mistake and fell for it and now of course, I installed the VMware Workstation 12.1.1 update and it does not start. It is fried.

  What I see:

• VIX 1.6.2 and ESXi 3.5.0: connection drops for no apparent reason

  I used vix to drive a virtual machine hosted by workstation, but I update this code (c#), to drive a virtual machine hosted by ESXi.

  I have a lot of problems with the connection to the abandonment. I set up a ping t on ESXi box and on the virtual machine I want to drive, and that shows a consistent link. However, I find the following:

  • If I call Connect successfully and then add a call to Open, on a regular basis, the call will fail with VIX_E_HOST_NOT_CONNECTED. I put the Connect and Open calls in a loop to try again with a break of 20 seconds between each attempt. After 3 or 4 attempts it usually connects.

  • If my program does a job without talking to the VM for about a minute, the connection drops usually such that if I try to call RunProgramInGuest after use the Vix api for a minute, it fails with "not connected". I put in a call to try again 'connection' before running a program on the virtual machine. Failure, I run the connection and open the loop to try one more time and then question the RunProgramInGuest call, I wanted to once again and it works.

  • However, I'm stuck, if I call RunProgramInGuest and then wait on the handle of the job, he is generally ok unless in the guest takes more than a minute or so to run. In this case returns never wait and the program is blocked.

  Anyone who knows the connection drop like that? What solution did you use to solve the final problem. I considered trying to exceed a reminder in, but the wait is failing, I expect that a reminder be never called back either. The other option I'm considering is that every time I call RunProgramInGuest, I actually run a script on the computer virtual who runs the program, then writes a file. So I can query reconnect, reopen and reconsignation-in in a loop to try again, and a quick turnaround program that looks like the existence of the file that tells me the program finished. It sounds crazy, so I hope that there are better suggestions!

  At least part of your problem may be a lack of understanding of what a "library".  In Windows 7, there is no specific place for a library.  It is a virtual collection of files from any number of locations. If you can't open or close a library, only one file that is referenced in it.

  It is a common misunderstanding, so don't feel not alone.

• Hard drive is no longer visible to windows 7 ultimate x 64

  I'm a MSDN. I have a number of virtual machines that I work on.

  Last night, I had two running virtual machines and failure at the same time.  They go on my F drive.

  Restarting the PC drive F is not visible to windows. I'm guessing that there is some sort of failure on the drive.

  I was looking around and found advice like going to disk management and rescan etc. No luck so far.

  I tried to switch the machine on in the BIOS, but in the bios ASUS, I do not see the mentioned drives.

  Can someone point me to a good article on how to diagnose the drive suddenly disappear like that with a failure suspected of some sort?

  This must happen a lot. I'm surprised that I wasn't able to find a good article detailed on google.

  I hope it isn't a catastrophic disk failure.

  I have now found a solution to my problem:

  Using the ESXi esxcli command to turn off a virtual machine

  The esxcli command can be used locally or remotely to turn off a virtual machine running on ESXi 5.x or later. For more information, see commands esxcli vm vSphere command-line Interface Reference.

  1. Open a console session where the esxcli is available, either in the shell of ESXi, vSphere Management Assistant (vMA) or where the vSphere command-line Interface (vCLI) is installed.
  2. The list of virtual classes, identified by world ID, UUID, display name and path to the .vmx configuration file by running this command:

     esxcli vm process list

  3. Turning off one of the virtual machines in the list by using this command:

     esxcli vm process kill --type= [soft,hard,force] --world-id= WorldNumber

     Notes:
     There are three ways of powering down. Soft is the most graceful, hard performing an immediate stop, and force should be used only as a last resort.

     Another power off of the syntax of the command is: esxcli vm process kill [ soft, hard, force] t w WorldNumber

  Repeat step 2 and confirm that the virtual machine is no longer running

  This is the green arrow disappear and I can now delete my virtual machine.
