Virtual machines cannot access IP host

I'm running Windows 7 x 64.  I installed VMWare workstation 7.x.  I created a few virtual machines, 3 XP and 1 Windows 7 x 86.   I created a network bridged on the properties of each virtual computer.  Everything worked well for months.   Now, all of a sudden I can not connect to server shares.   In fact, I don't even the IP addresses for all virtual machines.   I tried to sever the virtual machines in the network and the re - add but now I can't even add them because he can't find any field.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from VMWare.    I tried all the connections to different network that you can try in VMWare Workstation and nothing works.    I cannot join the domain and I can't get an IP address any.

I don't know what changed, but something has.  Any help would be great.

Thank you.

Have you checked the changes on the firewall of the host or do you use any type of protection software endpoint that is probably blocking the traffic of the virtual machine?

    1. To check the locks on the Service Console on non ESXi servers, run the command:

      lsof | grep

COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE SIZE NŒUD NOM_PERIPHERIQUE

If you receive results, however, file a support request to identify the process and to determine the causes.  If it is a third-party process, however, contact the appropriate provider to determine the cause before you kill the process ID, because it can happen again in the future.

Stop the process and the lock ID using the kill command. In the example above, the process ID is 3631:

      kill the 3631

After the termination of the process, you can try to turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

    2. To check if the virtual machine is always a world ID assigned, run these commands on all ESX/ESXi hosts:

On the ESX/ESXi host where the virtual machine still works, kill the VM, which releases the lock on the file. To kill the virtual machine, run the command:

      VM-support - X

Where the is the ID of the world of the virtual machine with the locked file.

Note: this command takes 5-10 minutes to complete. Answer No to "can I include a screenshot of the virtual machine", and answer Yes to all subsequent questions.

After the termination of the process, you can turn on the virtual machine or access the file resource.

Deleting the file .lck (NFS only)

The virtual machine files can be locked via NFS storage. You can identify this as reported by .lck files. # (where # is the ID of the world that holds the lock file) at the end of the file name. It is a NFS file lock and appears only when you use the ls command as it is the hidden file.
Beware: they can be removed safely only if the virtual machine is not running.

Note: VMFS volumes have no .lck files. The locking mechanism for VMFS volumes is managed within VMFS metadata on the volume.

You must kill the process that is locked, if it is not the case, you probably need to restart the VMware host.
I tell you from experience most likely end up rebooting it.

  • Virtual MACHINE cannot access the vlan

We have a vSwitch with a portgroup that services our Production network with no VLAN specific specified (0).  Gave us access to a new vlan on a physical Cisco switch level in our chassis and basic in our data center switches.

VSwitch physical maps show the new VLAN and production networks when you look at the vSwitch properties and the port group.

However we still cannot get out on the side of the chassis with a configured virtual computer to access the new VLAN.  Do we need to add a new port group to the vSwitch specifying the new vlan?  Any other ideas?

I have attached a doc showing the 101 new VLAN as a network, that NETWORK cards can see.

    Thank you

This VLAN 101 are arriving in two network cards?

If not, configure the two network cards.

If the vlan is marked on your switch, when you create a port group, set VLAN ID 101.

  • VCloud in virtual machines cannot communicate if they are in another ESX host

    Hi all

Currently I do a simulation for VCD in my laboratory of the company. I just discovered a few question in this simulation. Hope anyone can advice on that. Thank you.

    Senario:

    1. create an external network with 400 VLANS in vsphere Distribution Switch in two ESX server.

    2. create a VCD organization.

3 create a pool of network supported by network isolation VLAN 300

4 create an external organization routed network connection-NAT and select Network (VLAN 400) external and network pool (VCDNI vlan 300)

    5. create two virtual machines and assign the same network of the external organization that was created in step 4.

    6. If two virtual machines on the same host, they can communication or ping to each other.

    7. If two virtual machines in different hosts, they cannot communicate.

Why step 6 and step 7 will happen? What I have set up wrong? Please advice on this.

    Much appreciated for your help.

    Thank you.

    Concerning

    Ho

the physical switch must be configured for vlan 400 and 300,

vcni network tries to encapsulate the traffic on the 300 VLAN, if it is not configured on the physical switch virtual machines will be able to talk if they are on the same host.

correct its help is not a network back pvlan Isolation needs its own vlan you set to 300, which she in turn can then run 1000 + mac in the mac encapsulated networks in vlan 300,

Configure the ports on the switch to accept any vlan 300 institutions and it will be sweet

  • To access the virtual machines of two different hosts

    Greetings,

I have a question that I can't find the answer to. I am setting up a virtual machine environment small and need to better understand the architecture behind it.

    2 host servers

    1 iSCSI Equallogic San (target)

I have installed 35i ESX and runnning on two physical hosts. .205 et.206

I created a data store on my SAN to host my 'model' VM.

De.205, I can see the data on the SAN network store and browse the virtual machine I (using VMConverter) moved there.

De.206, I can see the data store on the SAN, but when I sail, I do not see the same information. I see no. VM.

MY understanding is that using the SAN to store the virtual machine and that I would make the hosts of this data store to run the virtual machine. But the way in which it seems that I have the virtual machine configured on both hosts, always pointing the data store on the San but again using converter, copy de.205 vers.206.

What don't understand me or that I don't understand.

    Your help is appreciated.

Welcome to the VMware community forums.   If you have configured things Ok, you will be able to browse the data from these two hosts store and see the same content.  You can register the virtual computers on both hosts.  For an existing VM on the host from 1, you find the data on the host of the 2nd store, right-click on the VMX file and select Add to the inventory.  Have you thought to vcenter server?  It's going to do it is a lot easier.

  • Virtual MACHINE running on two hosts after hung vmotion

    Hello

I started a VMotion of virtual machine by host A to host B. The request got hung at 65% for several hours. I restarted the VCenter service, registered to vsphere. The process was running is longer, but now the virtual machine appears on the Host A and host B.

The Cluster-'Virtual Machine' tab displays the virtual machine and cycles between two hosts seconds couple?

Anyone seen this before? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance!

First of all, it's impossible.  A virtual machine cannot be in 2 places at once.  It's just in the transition.

Secondly, vCenter manages the process but it doesn't actually do the vMotion, ESX hosts are.

What is happening is life of the virtual machine on the host only until the end of the evolution towards the other host (somewhere around 97%) when the transfer is confirmed with the new host.

Best thing to do is to restart the services of management on both hosts and see if that frees the vMotion.

  • New virtual machine cannot reach gateway all-in-olders Yes

Hi, I'm using ESXi for a year with no problems, but now I'm having a very strange situation. New virtual machine cannot reach the front door, while the 'old'. New virtual machine can ping olders VM and vice versa, but new looks as private. I tried different OS and still have the same question.

    That's what I have:

    Reference DELL R610 with RAID - 1 and RAID-5

    ESXi free 348481 4.1.0

    1 card NETWORK connected

    IPs public 16

    4 VM (W 2008 32bits, W 2008R2 64, 32 2008 W, W 2008 64) works perfectly

All VM are stored on the local Datastore2 (raid-5)

    Last week, I installed:

    1 Openfiler ESA (gateway problem)

    1 W 2008 R2 (gateway problem)

    1 W XP 32 (gateway problem)

    1 W 2008 32 (gateway problem)

Older VM never lose connection with gateway and beyond

    New never manage to bridge

I can't manually add gateway IP/mac address (error 5) in the new.

Anyone can figure it out and how to solve? I'm really lost.

    Thank you

New virtual machine can ping olders VM and vice versa...

This excludes actually questions 'virtual '. The vSwitch has no restrictions.

What kind of physical switch are you using? If this is a CISCO switch to ensure that the port is configured as a port of access (or trunk port) and spans tree portfast is. Some CISCO switches have a "macro"set desktop on their ports which limits the number of MAC addresses that are allowed on the port.

  • vCenter Server 4 as virtual machine by vSphere, ESX4 host

    Hello

I would like to ask if anyone has tried to do.

I create a virtual machine to run my vCenter Server 4 under a new brand, vSphere, ESX4, armed with other VM.

My question is, can I use vCenter Server 4 and the same vSphere, ESX4 host where the vCenter Server 4 is be managed host?  Is this possible.

I did this, but in the ESX and vcenter 4 installation guide his page 16 of the document makes it clear that: "the vCenter Server system is a physical machine or the virtual machine with access to a database taken in charge. The vCenter Server system must meet specific requirements. Also, make sure that the vSphere Client machines meet the hardware requirements. »

Here is the link to the document: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_esx_vc_installation_guide.pdf

But if you plan to do that you have to ensure three points (shown in this link: http://www.vladan.fr/three-main-reasons-to-run-virtual-center-server-as-a-virtual-machine/):

    1. Disable DRS (level of automation of change!) for your VirtualCenter VM and make sure the document where the VirtualCenter Server (my suggestion would be the first area of ESX)

    2. Enable HA for the VirtualCenter server and set the boot at high priority

    3. Make sure the VirtualCenter server gets sufficient resources by defining actions

There is also another useful post that describes the advantages of the virtual centre running as a virtual machine:

  • What is the interval of time between the virtual machine Linux and ESXi host synchronization?

I have ESX5.0 with a centos6 installed on this linux virtual machine.

After the installation of vmware for Linux virtual machine tools, I activated the time synchronization between the virtual machine linux and ESXi host through vmware-toolbox-cmd.

I wonder what is the interval of time between the virtual machine linux and ESXi host synchronization? If I quickly time OS system, when the OS system time will sync back to the ESXi host?

    According to http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/Timekeeping-In-VirtualMachines.pdf:

By default, the demon checks the guest only once per minute operating system clock.

However, depending on whether the guest is behind or in front of the result is different. So, please read the section "periodic synchronization" (at least) in the document mentioned above.

  • ESX as a virtual machine on an ESX host

Currently, I am installing ESX as a virtual machine on an ESX host. I have a couple of hosts potentially put this VM: two 4.0 in the course of execution, one running 4.1. I would like to run this VM on the host running 4.1, and the virtual machine must run 4.0. Thanks to my documentation and research of compatibility, I found that it is not supported as an operating system to run in a virtual machine under ESX ESX, but it's for the workstation and fusion. I read on some blogs that ESX install as a virtual machine on an ESX host is possible (at least on older versions), but comes with a few problems, which have no workaround. I found (external) positions regarding do all this with the 4.0, but my preference would be to do with 4.1 on the host and 4.0 on the virtual computer. I can't find something to do with 4.1, which is not surprising given that the upgrade became available less than two weeks ago. Does anyone tried it yet? Is there anything, you have found or recommend as I approach to do this? (I read that the virtual computer must be configured as a computer virtual running RHEL 5 with 2 GB of RAM http://when all this is done with version 4.0, but I was not able to find much more.) Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions!

    Hello

Yes, I tried last week and it worked for me. You are on the right track, we must select RHEL 5 64-bit as OS and assign the 2 GB of ram, and in addition to sound, you will need to use E1000 NICs for the installation to complete.

FYI, this configuration is not taken in charge/tested/certified by VMware.

    Hope this information helps
