Virus in official BIOS driver

I downloaded * BIOS driver * of * official * Toshiba website for the download link:

https://Support1.toshiba-tro.de/Tedd-files2/0/BIOS-20120814101902.zip

(Redirected from here: https://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_bios.jsp)

Here are the BIOS driver [VirusTotal report: | https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/394d02a0bc6763d60cf29e6f261c52b96a2195f8f55fa87e7f b31e04f83ada71/analysis/1421784797 /]

As you can see, 3 (Comodo, Trend Micro and AegisLab) antivirus programs reported the file as * suspicious * / * Trojan *.

The file is the old version of the BIOS (v1.60), the most recent is v6.80. It is * not * digitally signed *. I accidentally it linked my laptop (I have the latest BIOS version already installed, so when I ran v1.60, it seems that there no install, just shown popup, something like "new version already installed").

Questions for * certified * technicians Toshiba * (I want to * official response *):

1. maybe that's just a * detection of false positives *. You can * GUARANTEE * this file is * CLEAN / VIRUS FREE *?

2. if * virus * how * disinfect * my laptop? Do not forget that if it's BIOS virus I could eliminate it that by flashing the BIOS, but how when my BIOS of the laptop only comes with the .exe file (there no. ISO file to burn CD BIOS and it is not possible to Flash the BIOS within Windows, because I already have the latest version, or you know a work around for this?). Opening laptop is also impossible, because it is under warranty.

PS: I have already contacted the companies mentioned antivirus (submitted suspect BIOS driver file). I'll post their answers.

So please do not expect here to answer on the user forum.
Visit http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/ASP_SUPPORT/ and you will find Toshiba SPAS in your country. Contact the closest to the ASP and tell them what you want exactly.

All available drivers are put to the test, but you can specify everything with ASP from Toshiba. If there is a problem, they can contact Toshiba and clarify this issue.

I'm 100% sure that you are not the first or the last person who has updated the BIOS with this version.

By the way: what model of laptop you have exactly?

    Hi jobr46

    > I don't know that there is a virus in my bios.
Please don t be angry with me, but I think that you are not familiar with the BIOS.
Maybe you did not mean virus but better description would be bug.

    > I can not scroll correctly en my pointing devices do not work properly.
    > My cursor moves etc.

I assume you mean on the Touchpad. In case the touchpad is not working properly, you should check firsty if the new touchpad driver installation should solve your problem.
In which case it will not solve your problem, you should recover the laptop back to factory settings and should test if the new OS install would fix it.

If two workaround solutions won't help you, I recommend contacting the Toshiba ASP (service) to check and replace the touchpad module (maybe).

    > This also happens when I look in the bios settings
You cannot use touchpad in the BIOS. Only the keyboard allows you to choose and change the BIOS settings. So if you also have problems with your keyboard, this should be verified by the ASP as well

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy

its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one

  • HP Pavilion DV7-6c43cl: HP DV7: Guard Web Page Framework. Virus? Infected BIOS?

Posted in response to another as subject:

When I start my laptop, without clicking the shortcut of IE, IE (or firefox, tried both) opens a web page to the home page. The Web page then keeps reopening and then begins to open new windows, all with the home page. So I find myself with 20 to 40 new windows, the process does not stop.

Initially, I thought it was IE, but when I installed Firefox, the same problem. I disabled modules and scanned with virus recommended software, nothing helps. Had the same problem in safe mode. Scanned the HARD drive, no problems not discovered. Today, I did a reinstall of complete system of my HP recovery disks. Sure enough, as soon as I finished setting up the laptop and is computer went online for the first time, exactly the same problem. Guard re-opening the home page MSN and continues to open the homepage of many new widows.  I don't have much knowledge of computers, but I read somewhere that the bios may be infected? How will I know if this is the case? How to deal with this problem, are there any other options to get my phone working properly again?

I've had the laptop for almost 3 years and started having this problem about three months ago.

  • How can I check if I have a virus in the BIOS and what is the difference between formatting and full format in Windows 7?

    Hello

Recently I found a rootkit on my computer, especially rootkit.tdss.tdl4. Of after I read that I got one of the best!

    I have two questions:
Firstly - how can I check if my BIOS was hit without blinking? I read that this Trojan horse could have started exactly from the BIOS, and very likely to stand again after doing a clean install. I have a laptop HP seems like flashing procedures require to disconnect the disk hard - is this true for laptops?

Second, is how I format to ensure that clean the MBR? I have Vista and want to upgrade to Windows 7. I have Windows 7 upgrade ultimate disc that can do a custom install which should format entirely. Tell me if I think too old school here but should be low (or zero) format is required? From what I've read, the function of full format of Windows 7 should be as powerful as the low level. is that correct? I don't mind the overtime work as long as I don't have any problems (at least with this Trojan) later. I also fear that upgrading Windows 7 disk might not have all the features of formatting as a full version, which is a nonsense?

Thank you very much for your help!

In addition, suggest that you scan your computer with MalwareBytes' to remove all traces that may still be present.

    MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM)

    http://www.Malwarebytes.com/>

The free version of MBAM is a scanner at the request and offer no protection "real time". Keep and use it as "second opinion" scan.

Windows 7 tools to format the drive should be sufficient:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

    Click on drive Options

Select the disc/s click on Delete

    Click new

    Click on apply

    Click OK

Click Format, and then click next to proceed with the installation

Why do you want that specific file?
It is sufficient to perform the BIOS update through the Setup file provided in the package of the BIOS, you can download from the Toshiba download page.

Just tried and downloaded this package that contains only the setup.exe and the rom file.
I think there is no way to get this file you want, because it is not included.

  • Virus on external HARD drive - SwitchFK.exe-infected Email - Worm.Win32.Nyxem.e

Toshiba external hard drive is configured with two partitions. Main is 290 GB for backup data.
Small partition shows as a CD drive and contains the ONSPEC program (which I don't use).

The Shield Deluxe continuous anti-virus program to tell me there is a virus affecting a file in the small partition. The file affected (allegedly) is \Driver\SwitchFK.exe.

The virus is supposed to be Email - Worm.Win32.nyxem.e
I can not remove this file or even the program Onspec. Setup as a CD player gives me a message saying that the disk (the small partition) is not able to write to.

Even tried using Linux (Knoppix), but could not do the thing to remove.
So I have a password called drive, which seems to be a bad guy.

You seem to be missing the driver of service SM BIOS...

I thought it was part of the driver chipset but installing it didn't solve it. I have run the utility was updated and that does ' t get the driver to make it.

    Any ideas guys?

    Link to photo

The warning flag does not mean that it is not installed it is. But it does not properly. I might be a missing service or not started but generally its share of the chipset driver for the model.

I'm guessing it's from a media installation not OEM.

  • Lost CD/DVD in BIOS drive / Dell Inspiron 3847

I lost my driver CD/DVD entry in the boot BIOS section while trying to change the order of boot autour. I tried to use a boot disk that did not work properly and didn't know and thought that I had to change the boot order to see the boot-able DVD.  DOH!  ;-)

One of the 5 start past choices [HL - DT - ST DVD +/-RW GHBON] [internal STRANGE machines] in all cases.

Here are the 5 choices HHD entry and below which was the entry DVD of "HL - DT - ST DVD +/-RW GHBON. Now, there are only the HHD entry and no DVD entry.

DVD is OK in the "Device Manager" and start from the disc to start the good DVD OK.  I tried updating BIOS to A04 A05 without change. I ran each tool/test Dell I can find without success in the restoration/correction of writing DVD in BIOS.

I spent the better part of a week to implement this backup compy with all programs/files wife and I use to work/play. I wanted to make an ISO image for a total restoration at a glance.  I don't want to re - build from scratch once again unless I have no choice.  I did all the disks in the factory restore but it will restore the BIOS DVD boot entry correctly? If it's the only choice I do but we need to correct the BIOS entries.

I really don't think that there is a problem.
