Virus on external HARD drive - SwitchFK.exe-infected Email - Worm.Win32.Nyxem.e

Toshiba external hard drive is configured with two partitions. Main is 290 GB for backup data.
Small partition shows as a CD drive and contains the ONSPEC program (which I don't use).

The Shield Deluxe continuous anti-virus program to tell me there is a virus affecting a file in the small partition. The file affected (allegedly) is \Driver\SwitchFK.exe.

The virus is supposed to be Email - Worm.Win32.nyxem.e
I can not remove this file or even the program Onspec. Setup as a CD player gives me a message saying that the disk (the small partition) is not able to write to.

Even tried using Linux (Knoppix), but could not do the thing to remove.
So I have a password called drive, which seems to be a bad guy.

Any ideas, please!

  • Is there a possibility of the virus being transferred as well for moving files on an external hard drive?

Original title: Virus/malware/spyware portable with external hard drive?

I run Windows 7 64 bit. My subscription to Norton ran a while back (I know, dumb move) and I want to use MSE instead of pay crazy to renew Norton.  Right now, I'm waiting for Microsoft to difficulty MSE Windows 7 64 bit (there is a problem of file corruption with MSE for 64-bit Windows 7 version that Microsoft is working on fixing)... In the meantime, I suspect strongly I have some viruses and spyware on my laptop and wanted to try a system reset. If I back up my files to an external hard drive will be I might transfer of virus/malware to my computer when I put files on my laptop?

    Hi Cbx_ladyarabica

    Please contact the Microsoft Community.

I like to show you a point for Microsoft Security Essentials. Want to know if there is a possibility of virus being transferred on the external hard drive and back, as well as files. It's pretty simple and I'm here to help you. Thank you for taking the time to read this far.

It is a possibility that the virus may be transferred along with the files provided that they are infected, as well. To be on the safe side, I'd like you try to run a full scan on the computer by using various third-party programs (such as suggested by Andre) to ensure that the computer is virus-free.

  • Data from external hard drive not visible

My computer has been recently infected with the virus to restore Windows. As soon as I was aware, I unplugged my network cable and a drive external hard (without using to remove the device safely), who has all my data. I then used a previous restore point to get rid of the virus, which was apparently with success, because there is no remaining trace.

Now, the external hard drive is not visible in Explorer. Other utility programs say that the data is always there, but I can't see it or access it in the usual way. This drive worked perfectly up to this point. I tried to restart, unplug the external drive and reconnect it and using a different USB port, but so far nothing has worked.

How can I get Vista to recognize my external drive?

    Hello

Run the system restore will be not delete or remove the virus on the computer. System Restore helps you restore system files from your computer to an earlier point in time.

First I suggest you to run the check, and online virus scan if no malware or viruses detected on the computer activity. You can run the scan for viruses online from the link below: http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

NOTE: Make sure that you select the correct version of the operating system before downloading the scanner)

For the problem with the external hard drive, follow the methods below:

    Method 1:

Check if the device is detected in Device Manager. Follow the steps for the same thing:

    a. click on start

    b. click Run, in the Run dialog box type devmgmt.msc

    (c) in the Device Manager window, locate the drive

    Method 2:

Run the fix it from the link below and check if it helps. Link: Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/

    the cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

  • Managing disks in Windows 7 does not recognize external hard drive

It is a recent event. I backed up my computer only 45 days ago and it worked Ok. The same external drive has no problems with your Windows XP desktop.

No other USB devices is facing this problem.

Device Manager identifies the mass storage device (WD1140), as well as the USB controller.

    This utility cannot sort.
It is not possible to change/assignment of a new letter to the reader as disk management does not identify her. I also tried to use the command-line (list disk)... the only disc that displayed is internal.

I tried to change the USB port, without result.
The operating system is Windows 7 Starter.

    Hello Cristian,

I appreciate the efforts to solve the problem. We would like to know the following information form you for help to come.

    (1) what store did you run to fix the problem?

    (2) you have any software from third-party security installed on your computer?

    (3) what is the brand and model of your computer?

You could address this issue due to a hardware conflict or if the external hard drive that you are trying to connect has virus. Prior to the resolution problems make sure that you have installed all Windows updates. Follow the steps below to solve the problem.

Method 1: Run hardware and troubleshooting utility device.

Connect the external hard drive to your computer, and then run the troubleshooter below.

Open the hardware and devices troubleshooter.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-the-hardware-and-devices-Troubleshooter

Method 2: Reinstall the USB controllers.

You mentioned that another that this device, all other devices are detected, follow the steps to make sure that you have the latest USB drivers. This method addresses the steps where the USB driver currently loaded became unstable or corrupted.

    (a) click Start, type device in the area Manager Search , then click on the peripheral Manager.

    (b) expand Bus USB controllers. Right click on a device, and then click Uninstall. Repeat for each device.

    (c) when completed, restart your computer. Your USB controllers will automatically install.

Method 3: Run Microsoft Safety Scanner.

I also suggest that you scan your computer with the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: the Microsoft Safety Scanner expires 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: the data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

Write to us at the State of the question. If you need additional assistance, we will be happy to help you.

  • Problem with external hard drive (an unexpected error - 50)

I've had this problem for a few months now. Sometimes, I can't delete a file from my external hard drive, or export a file to it. The process is impossible, and I get a message "Cannot perform the action due to an unexpected error - 50". Ejecting the disc gives the message "eject impossible because another program can use it." Ejection force becomes the only option. After re-login, the problem goes away, like nothing ever happened.

The question is not constant, but quite common to become a nuisance, the one I want stopped.

That's what I think it is (a bad connection with the cable, defective contact), or is this a virus? I need to know.

The hard drive is 1 TB Toshiba Canvio Basics and is formatted as Mac OS extended (Journalized).

not a virus, and not only because there is no virus mac at this time.

negative errors on the discs can be a signal indicating that the file is corrupted or worse still, the drive is failing. While it can also be a problem with the cable or the connector that it commonly goes back on the disc itself.

Currently, it is recommended that you backup your data if a backup fails, you may need to save what you can manually and sometimes that means go to this folder by folder or file by file

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

All HARD drives (and SSD') eventually fail and while this isn't a your statement you should check the drive with disk utility (Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) after you got what you possibly can off and consider replacing the disk with a new one.

  • Regen not install software on external HARD drive

I recently bought a Toshiba external hard drive.
I try to install the software that came with it.
The software is Regen - PushButton Backup.
It seems to load and install ok (via install Wizard). But when I try to run it, I get the message:

    @chrismuirhead
Maybe the software has been placed in your first account and starts automatically if you use your account. For most of these software is placed in the registry under RUN or in the startup folder.
You must check the file if the application is placed here:

  • Satellite 2450-101: can I run recovery external HARD drive or USB key using

    Hello.

I have a Satellite 2450-101, on which the DVD player seems to have failed (could be engine, laser; uncertain).

I want to perform a full restore of the product, using both disks that came with the computer.
Defective hard drives before, I copied the data on these disks to an external hard drive and a usb flash drive.

Is it possible for me to run the recovery of the proceeds of one of these media (or indeed any source, other than the internal DVD player)?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. See you soon.

    > Defective hard drives before, I copied the data on these disks to an external hard drive and a usb flash drive.
    > Is it possible for me to run the recovery of the proceeds of one of these media (or indeed any source, other than the internal DVD player)?
Hmmm I doubt that this can be possible because it is not possible to boot from a USB flash or external HARD disk drive.

What you could do is to copy the folder the original Microsoft CD i386 on the HARD drive and then you can run setup.exe from this folder.
It would begin installing the XP installation program.

But Toshiba Recovery disk contains only image files and there is no i386 folder and therefore, you need the CD of XP Ms.

  • Toshiba PX1266E - 1 25 external hard drive (250 GB)

I had a glance at the map, I don't see anyone with a similar problem, so I am posting this in the hope that someone can help me.

I currently have a HDD external Toshiba PX1266E - 1 25 (250 GB) that is causing me problems.

I have two laptops that I use: a single running XP (SP3) and a staff of Vista (SP1). The password on the Toshiba Disk Manager software seems to be compatible with XP but not Vista, so whenever I used the disc with my Vista laptop, I've been disable Manager password using the application ONSPCRT.exe on the phantom CD-ROM created by the HARD drive, then reactivation using the ONSPCSET.exe application is also on the ghost of CD-ROM.

It worked well until last night. I had been back a few more data at the disk of the Vista laptop and then re-enabled the software Password Manager. However, 20 minutes later, I decided that I wanted to copy something from the HARD drive to the laptop Vista, so I plugged it in, turned off password using ONSPCRT Manager and then... nothing. Usually, when you do this, the AutoPlay box appears for the HARD disk and asks me how I want to set the type of files on the HARD drive. Now, it does absolutely nothing.

I tried in the XP laptop and once again, nothing. I tried to re - enable and disable Manager password several times. I always used the right password and do not understand why my HARD drive does not start to run automatically when I enter the password, or plug it into a computer with an invalid password manager.

The ghost CD (usually labeled as "Password" and allocated drive E :) appears again and I can access all the files on it, but the drive HARD himself (who was usually allocated drive F :) simply does not appear in my computer at all now.)

Please, please, please help - my ongoing doctoral research is stored on this drive and I'm frantic, just think that I could have lost. Is there some sort of Autorun feature that I could have accidentally triggered?

    Hmm.

    Try this:
-Disconnect the HARD drive to the USB port
-remove the hubs and USB port on the Device Manager
    -restart the laptop
-wait until the USB ports will be installed
-Connect the HARD drive and then try to access the data

I'm not sure if this will help, but in my case that worked perfectly if the external HARD drive was not recognized in my computer

    Good luck

  • move el capitan photo library app on external hard drive

    Question:

How to move to El Capitan new library of the 'Photo' app on an external drive?

The picture of El Capitan App behaves like a virus - it takes my computer whenever I plug a phone, etc.

There seems to be no preference to choose which application opens to plug in a device, and iPhoto failed to do not open.

(And selecting the cloud for storage is similar to trust someone else to keep forever, hundreds of concerts my confidential and important data.) "If they were to lose my credit card information, that would be correct.)

I will not "auto-save" my photos on my drive internally, and will not allow 'Photo' me to select one different folder other than the one they chose for me on my internal drive. Whenever I select a folder from the external hard drive in the preferences, it is default to the original destination in the internal drive.

Most discussions on the application of 'Photo' of Apple are extremely difficult to find because the results of a search of the generic name of there new beacon 'Photo' app display the results of all things by the word 'photo' in them. Go to Apple support with the name of their application as the search keyword: "photo".

It seems that the fellows who designed Windows 8 have been able to find a job at Apple. I think it may be easier to move a photo library of Windows 8 at the library 'Photos' El Capitan that moving the iPhotos library.

I don't remember thinking iPhoto needed to be redesigned. Simply not take 20 minutes for the Interior to appear cryptic images. And maybe be able to import large files of k 4, without crashing on every attempt.

PLEASE SEE THE APP "FUNBOX" BEFORE THE NEXT UPDATE OF 'PHOTO '!

in this soft - 128 GB iPhone photos appear in less than a minute, and you have the ability to save large images videos 4 k, voice memos, etc. simply by dragging them to the location desired. The good old MAC intuitive way that attracted us to Apple in the first place.

Perhaps Apple simply tries to leave the free App company.

    RULE NO. 1:

Applications need to be improved - not made obsolete!

One Solution: rename the new 'photo' application in iPhoto. (I'm a genius!)

How to move to El Capitan new library of the 'Photo' app on an external drive?

Select it in the image folder and drag the EHD.  Once there open to confirm a successful move and then remove the pictures folder.

There seems to be no preference to choose which application opens to plug in a device, and iPhoto failed to do not open.

With the trendy iPhone go to Photos and uncheck this box:

Do this for each device you have.  If you have memory cards and reformat them, you will have to repeat every time.

To kill the opening of Photos for all devices use the method posted by JadedEye:

OK, it worked for me on El Cap

defaults write currentHost - com.apple.ImageCapture disableHotPlug - bool YES

(followed by the return key or enter - ed)

    The exit of the terminal.

Photos will run if you run, but it will not autolaunch on each connection to a camera or the card or reformatted the card.

If you want to return Photos auto-launch almost everything, use the same command change YES no

This correction has set my workflow back to normal without Photos lance all the time.

I will not "auto-save" my photos on my drive internally, and will not allow 'Photo' me to select one different folder other than the one they chose for me on my internal drive. Whenever I select a folder from the external hard drive in the preferences, it is defaulted to the original destination in the internal drive

I don't know what you mean by that last statement.  Are you referring to export photos from your library to the EHD? Or are you referring to place your library on the EHD and its use here? The export window to select any location you want to save to.  By default, it opens to the desktop on the startup disk. But you can select any volume which is mounted by clicking it in the sidebar of the export window:
