Visible network icon

The network icon disappeared from the region of notificatioon of my taskbar.  It doesn't seem to be hidden.  How can I get that back?

Hello

Welcome to the Microsoft Community forums. According to the description of your problem, I understand that you can not see the network icon in the taskbar.

You did changes to the computer before the show?

I suggest you to check the link and try the connection troubleshooting steps.

System icons do not appear in the notification area in Windows Vista or Windows 7, you must restart the computer.

    Hello:

Go to Device Manager and look at the list of devices it.

Is there a device listed in the Device Manager, labeled as a network controller?

If so, this is the wireless card that need to install the driver.

If you don't know which driver you need for the wireless card, please report it to the listed hardware ID of the device that you see as a network controller.

To find the hardware ID, click the network controller device.

Then click on the Details tab in the upper part of the window network controller.

Now you will see a drop-down list of property, and it will be set to the Description of the unit.

On this list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID).

  • Portege Z30 - do you have a network icon in the taskbar?

This issue is specifically for users of Toshiba Portege Z30s. Mine does not have a network icon in the task bar, so I was wondering if another application from Toshiba is supposed to manage the network. In addition, it nothing happens when I go to control panel - network and Internet - connection to a network.
I was wondering if other Z30 users are facing the same question.

    Thank you.

It seems that you have already started a same discussion on this theme in another thread here in the forum:

    Hello

Place of absent Microsoft window network of my network icon. Effect of this unable to access shared folders on the other system.

    Best regards, AVGP

    Hello

Sharing must be configured on each computer player/folders first.

Only after that sharing is set correctly on each computer, they will appear in the network window.

If you have correctly configured the sharing.

  • Missing, probably deleted, the wireless network icon

Okay, I know I'm stupid. But I think a long time I could have deleted the wireless network icon. I have a desktop computer and I am connected to my modem with my ethernet cable. However, I just got a Roku Netflix player and need to have a wireless network. My modem has a wireless function, but I need this thing to wireless network icon who put in place.

I checked the forums and they tell everyone to go to Device Manager and uninstall something, then restart your computer.  When I go there my options for uninstall are Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection and network controller that has a yellow circle with and exclamation mark inside. I'm pretty sure is my wireless card, I had installed but no longer uses.

So, how can I uninstall? Or is this not what I need to do?

  • Network icon is missing from the notification area after the window updated

I have some problems about the notification for the network and the volume icon!
They are missing after the window updates!
I tried to check the "Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' > 'Notification area', Volume and network are grey which I cannot check these boxes. Grateful if you could help me solve this problem!
    Thank you very much!

    Hi VisBo,

Welcome to the windows vista forums.

Please follow the steps below to resolve this issue:

    1. right click on the taskbar and click Properties.

2 tab Area of Notification .

3 check (on) or disable (off) the options you want or do not want to display on the Taskbar Notification area.

For the network icon, you can also do with the registry.

    NOTE:

Please be careful while making changes to the registry, any undesirable changes can affect your operating system.

    1. click on start.

    2. in the start menu search bar type regedit, and then on enter.

3 Please go to this location in the registry by expanding each location by clicking on the brand more on the left side.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\
    Microsoft\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

    4. remove the keys 'IconStreams' & 'PastIconsStream '.

    5. start the Task Manager by pressing ctrl + alt + delete at the same time.

    6. in the Task Manager right click on explorer.exe and kill the process.

    7. click on applications in the task manage, press new task and type explorer.exe, and then press ENTER.

Explorer will now reboot and your icons should return.

Alternatively, you can try to uninstall the most recent update that has caused the problem. You can uninstall an update by clicking on the icon of the program features in Control Panel. Select the update that caused the problem, and then uninstall it.

You can also make a selection of updates to install by setting the windows updates to notify you before installing an update. To open this Panel, and then click windows updates, click settings.

I hope this information is useful.

Please let us know if you need assistance.
