Vista 64-bit hangs on tap

OS - Vista 64 bit SP2, when to stop or restart my computer it seems closed normally, except that when it "turns off" the power led lights up and I can still hear the rotation of the drive.  It would NOT then restart unless I hold the power button to turn off the computer.  Any thoughts?

Hello

Have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Step 1:

Try to start in safe mode and check.

Safe boot mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If you are able to connect in safe mode then run step 2.

Step 2:

Try a clean boot to safe mode and restart the computer in normal mode.

How to solve problems using the clean boot in Windows Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: once the diagnosis has been made, make sure that you try to step 7 of the article to reset the computer as usual.

Note: Also make sure that you have disconnected all external devices except the keyboard and mouse.

Hope the information is useful.

    Hello

I recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit and it works very well using GPU on board. Problems started when I installed the 9800GT. It works when I use the standard VGA driver windows installed, but after that I updated to the latest version of the driver the screen would be black after the initial screen that displays the progress bar just before the vista logo and nickname. I went to the VGA driver, so I can type this upward.

The machine is still trying to get all the service packs and updates, and I was wondering if the problem will be solved by getting all the updates.

The problem seems so much as questions of other people were able to see with the video card since ' 09. I hope he has improved since then.

If the network controller device is missing, then the driver installed and you should now see an Intel 5100 WiFi card listed in the category network adapters in the Device Manager.

You should now be able to connect to wireless internet.

The other two drivers you posted the ID for are the following:

You don't give any info on what was the original problem with the computer.

You have set the Bios Setup to boot from the CD/DVD drive?

At startup, it will say press F2 or delete key to go into Bios/Setup, or maybe F12 to go to the Start Menu.

And have you tried also to tap F8 at startup and choose Safe Mode from the list of Boot Options?

Use up arrow key to do this, press on enter.

Browse your Hard Drive manufacturer's website, download software from here and test your hard drive for errors.

  • Windows Vista 64-bit with readers that will not start after disabling all startup applications and registry changes

My Vista 64-bit system ran like a dream - until I tried to install Roxio Creator 2010.  When the installation failed and hung up, I stopped the installation with the Task Manager and rebooted the pc.  Following the instructions of blog users of Roxio, I did the following:

    1. selected disable all startup using MSCONFIG and restarted the pc applications.

2 download and run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp.

3 remove the partially installed Roxio files in the directory c:\Program Files x 86, then made an export of registry before editing the registry.

    4. under the leadership of the registry - deleted file folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Roxio and has attempted to delete the Wow6432Node folder from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder but encountered an error - didn't note it, unfortunately, but basically he said that he could not remove it when it has been changed, after waiting a while I tried to delete the folder Wow6432Node whe even once with the same answer, so I closed Regedit and restarted the pc.

The pc goes through the process of startup and hangs when it tries to start Windows Vista.

    5. I can't do a repair with the Vista disk - files are not present.

    Hello Ajay K.

Thank you very much for your detailed answer.

I got no error message.  I backed up the registry, but was not able to start the pc, so was not able to restore the registry.

I couldn't restore last good configuration known - the option was not yet present.

When I tried to restore the operating system, he asked drivers before it would proceed.

I have a floppy 1.44 with the raid drivers and after reloading of these drivers, I was able to reload Vista Ultimate.  Fortunately, all my data was recorded in a windows.old directory, and I'm back in business without losses.  Just had to reload all my software.  Do that...

I think that my problem was caused by disabling all startup applications in msconfig - which resulted in my hard not recognized disk array.  This seems likely.

You are awesome to provide an exceptional response.

  • Upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit in earlier upgrade Vista 32 bit OEM

I have searched this forum for an answer to my qusetion below but can't find descriobe my script, I hope someone here can help me understand if my upgrade is viable before you start along backup and the resettlement process.

I bought my PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OEM.

When Windows 7 was launched I purchsaed the upgrade to Home Premium disc which included 32-bit and 64-bit.

At the time many applications that I used was not compatible 64 bit so I simply upgrded to Windows 7 32 bit, I activated and have used since.

I am now find my system a bit slow and the most cost-effective upgrade would be to increase my ram from 2 GB to 8 GB, but only if I can also move to 64-bit.

What I read in other posts, the upgrade disks I have purchsed enabled me to move from 32-bit Vista either 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7.

    My qusetion is:-

Having already made the choice to upgrade my Vista 32 bit OEM for Windows 7 32 bit and activated this version, I can now reinstall using the same product keys but this time using the 64-bit installation disk?

I hope I'm not alone here, and others will be tried this and can therefore confirm the result.

    Kind regards

    Robert

You can use the key to existing product that you originally used to install and activate the Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

Installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit will not necessarily make your computer faster however.

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/07/using-Windows-easy-transfer-in-Windows-7/

Boot from the DVD 64 bit Windows 7

For information about how to modify your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, see the following tutorial:

    http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/

Once your computer is configured to boot from the DVD, you should see this option.

    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • PSE5 organizing on Windows 7 64-bit hangs on a catalog

Well, I know using PSE5 under Win7 64-bit is not officially supported, but many people seem to have success.

I'm migrating from XP and saved my catalog of 17000 + photos.  When I installed PSE5 (5.0.2 and patch) on Vista 64 - bit, PSE restored my backup successfully, but when I hit 'okay', crashes just up to the "not responding" without showing images.  In the meantime my Win7 update happened, so I uninstalled PSE5 and installed Win7.

When I reinstalled PSE5 (5.0.2 and), now under Win7 64 bit, this same catalog worked!  My catalogue was now well after generating all the thumbnails, and I even moved all the photos to the help of the folder view.  I was very happy.  But the next morning, I was back to the hanging of catalog.  If I create a new catalog with a few photos, it works fine, but of course, I want my old catalog.  I tried to restart, reinstall, starting with a new catalogue and to restore the backup, recovery of the big catalog, removal of the thumbnail cache, delete the status.dat file, looking at the catalogue with MS Access and more, all several times.

Any ideas?  If she had not worked a night, and if it does not work on a new catalog, I just assumed that this was not possible.
