Vista 64 SP1 question

I posted this in a forum of Vista, but it was suggested there that I repost here what follows:

I installed Vista 64 a few days ago and it was working fine until it updated for SP1. I tried a repair install and tried to do a restore without success.

Do I have other options other than a complete reinstall?

If I do a full reinstall, it would be better to install Windows7 64?

Wayne

Whem I try to restart after the installation of SP1, I get a black screen with the code 0 x 0000034! 292/155717

[1] I don't think that the upgrade path is a viable option for me. It is Vista Ultimate Edition and Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade is $100 more than Home Premium...

[2] I thought I only saw that 32-bit and 64-bit are included when you purchase an upgrade.

A1. Yes, you can buy & use a Win7 Home Premium Upgrade, but the upgrade would be a "custom (Advanced) installation" (vs an upgrade on the spot).

A2. Yes, each updated Win7 edition includes 32 - bit and 64 - bit.

See this simplified table of upgrade: http://i.zdnet.com/blogs/windows-upgrade-chart-eb-remake-final3.png?tag=col1;post-1246 (click on the image to enlarge).

You can find more info & support on the upgrade to Win7 here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads

    I think that the idea of Tempro is just great. This allows me to keep all the drivers updated. Unfortunately, it didn't work for a few days and never again. Now, I received a notification of update that Tempro 1.2 is out.

    PS: in case it helps: Tecra S5, ZoneAlarm, SuperAntiSpy, Webroot AV and Vista Business SP1

    I see that you have installed a lot of 3rd party software.
    Hey Buddy, I got the Zonealarm too and I wasn't satisfied. This tool always requires approvals and other applications didn't work properly.

    I m wondering if the Tempro crashed after installing a new OS from Toshiba. I mean you could test to see if a 3rd party tool affect this software.

    I would recommend taking the recovery disk and reinstall the operating system. Updated the Tempro, then check if the problem still persists.

    Sorry, but buddy is a way to discover what causes this problem.

Help? also, I got an error code 0 x 80070017.

    Hello

    1. When this error occurs during the installation?

    2. you have the Vista installation disc or the service pack disc?

    Method 1:

    I suggest you try the steps in the following article from Microsoft to install Windows Vista on your computer and check if it helps.

    Installation and reinstallation of Windows Vista:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista

    Method 2:

    I would also refer to a similar thread with a possible fix:

    Yes as the title: I lost my Windows Vista Premium SP1 CD! But I still have my product key. What should I do?

    Oh Vista Home premium!

    Hello

    Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

    they do it for a nominal cost of $

    also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

    you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

    Ask them of the exact key sequence

    or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

    Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

    they contain all versions of vista

    This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Cannot use or restore Vista after SP1 uninstall

    original title: cannot use or restore after uninstalling SP1 Vista - please help.

    In order to perform an upgrade of Vista installation to repair the damage caused by a virus recently, I uninstalled Service Pack 1 (because installation upgrade will not work with SP1). I know there are other things I should have done (a sfc/scannow in theCommandPrompt) or SP1 slipstreamed DVD, but I did not know them at the time, nor did I think there will be problems as a result of an uninstallation of SP1. As the title suggests, I got kind of wrong.

    It all started after uninstallation, which seemed successful. I rebooted, and instead to get Vista without SP1, I get an error code of the variety of the command prompt (just the black screen with white writing). This continues for a couple of times, and after a few remedies attempts that fail miserably, I decide to systemrestore(using the Vista CD, of course) at a point before uninstalling SP1. I think it will work, but the first time, as it gets to the "development of restoration" and how he hung for three hours before, I decided to turn off the computer because he was of course not moveable anywhere. I restart and let the boot from HARD drive upwards to see if maybe something worked, and I get to the login screen of Vista, how I notice none of my devices work. The mouse or the keyboard responds (both are USB) and the attempts with the PS/2 versions don't either. I thought maybe it was a driver problem, so I reinstalled the driver chipset at the disk using my laptop (took thedesktopHARD drive, put in a box outside, then executed the installer of the chipset on my laptop and said to install outside driver), but it could not solve the problem. I also tried other restorations, but invariably they fail after a certain point, which gives me an error message:

    "System restore failed due to an unspecified error. The file could not be opened from a transactional point of view, because its identity depends on the result of a unresolved transaction. (0x80071AA7).

    I googled errormessageand see that most people encounter it while trying to install a service pack, I thought it was a problem with restoring Vista without SP1 to Vista SP1. Thusly, I used the command from theVistaCD command-line option to read my Windows Update log and got the following:

    I can't interpret it, although it seems to confirm my suspicions the transition from other than the SP1 and SP1 is causing issues. If someone else could interpret this?

    Basically I have a non-functional operating system, I can not restore it to a State of operation, nor access the input devices because it does not work on the login screen. Anyone all proposed solutions to the problem, short of a clean install of Vista? I don't want to reformat unless absolutely necessary.

    This is the forum Vista install.

    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistarepair/threads

    You can try the repair Forum.

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
  • I bought a DVD of Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit English 3pk DSP 3 OEI from Amazon don't need to Kit?
    Hello
    Ive just ordered a "Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32-bit English 3pk DSP 3 OEI DVD" from amazon, and just realized, I need an OEM preinstallation Kit. And that I bought comes with 3 DVDs and 3 OEM.
    hendec123
    You don't need the Kit.
    Install in the usual way:
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
  • Vista Ultimate SP1 Pro: repeated failures to install SP2 and several failures repeat to install some other upgrades second request for help)
    Hello
    I'm a professional software developer, and in the last five days I have tried in vain to upgrade my Vista Ultimate Pro (purchased in the United States two years ago) SP1 to SP2 and make that the machine is in use.
    I would like professional assistance with this question and the advice to do a "clean" installation and annihilate the four days of settings and configuration of programs and software development tools is not a satisfactory answer: I want to know why I can't do an "upgrade" install: why 'upgrade install' disabled when I launch setup.exe from the original DVD / install install Vista?
    1 SP2 will not install (from Windows Update or the downloaded standalone installer from MS) (see my previous post here):
    http://social.answers.Microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistawu/thread/d499b50d-8f67-460f-ACF3-df2ff12ecec7
    for details and for a response of S. Bodin who gave no useful tips).
    2 56! other updates appear repeatedly as needing to be installed, and then they re - install whenever I have closed the computer, and, when I re - starts, they appear as being initialized, or whatever, once again.
    3 IE8 is already installed, .NET FrameWork 3.5 + is already installed (as part of the VS 2010 beta install), but they appear in the queue of facility among the 56 other updates.
    I can honestly say I've lost a lot of time and money dealing with the problems of Vista: it's one of the reasons I have not used for more than a year: I had hoped at the time of SP2, it would be stable enough to use.
  • How can I install SP1 for an installed Vista without SP1?
    Since my request for help, I decided to move from XP Pro to Vista.
    The Vista upgrade disc had never been implemented.
    That caused a problem.
    I was able to accomplish the upgrade with authenticity and successful activation.
    I did not know of SP1 is not responsible and are no longer supported by Microsoft and is first necessary before installing SP2.
    When I tried to download the program KB936330 who took an hour and twenty minutes to load, she didn't.
    Then I found KB947366 which did not work after using resolution 1.
    Today, I used 2 resolution, what brought me to run KB947821 first, then return to KB936330.
    KB947821 was successful, but the second attempt at KB936330 failed once again. The error code was: 0x800F0826.
    I had hoped that by the upgrade I would have been more successful.
    I noticed that there was perhaps a DVD for Vista SP1. Would that be available?
    Otherwise, I seem to be dead in the water.
    Your help and your advice would be much appreciated.
