Vista crashing on updates

I have a Dell XPS 420, chip Quad6600, 4gig ram, 512 m nvidia 8800gt, sata drives 2 x 500g

had to reinstall vista as my main drive failed, installation went well, but once my graphics card and antivirus (nod32) have been installed, whenever vista updated ie service pack 1, service pack 2, and now it seems that any update considered critical or important, downloads, installs and closed blocks then pc blue screen of death lots of text on the screen, impossible to see him as he is only there for a second.

So I nod 32 screaming at me that I need to update to vista, and if the cycle continues, anyone knows a workaround for this?

Thank you

Hello

(1) provide us the possible error code.

To know the error codes for blue screen (BSOD) follow these steps:

a. click on start and then Control Panel.

b. click on system and Maintenance link.

c. Note: If you see the classic view of the Control Panel, you will not see this link. Just double-click on the system icon and go to step e.

d. click on the system link.

e. in the left pane, click Advanced system settings.

f. Locate the startup and recovery area, and click on the settings button.

g. in the startup and recovery window, locate and uncheck the box next to automatically restart.

h. click OK in the startup and recovery window.

i. click OK in the System Properties window.

j. you can now close the system window.

k. therefore, when a problem causes a BSOD or another major error which stops the system, the PC restarts automatically. It will be necessary to restart manually.

l. Please take note of the error and the message comes back with the details

(2) However, you can download the standalone update package and try installed in the boot. To download you can follow the following steps.

  • Vista crashes after update 10/02/10 - different symptoms

My old Dell Inspiron desktop computer to 2 year began to break down last week after the updates of Windows.  Equipped with Vista.  Initially, tried as well repair and restore options CD of Vista without result.  Finally, reformatted my hard drive and installed a clean Vista.  Machine worked for 2 days, before crashing again.

    The symptoms are:
    1. the machine will start normally in Windows.  Before desktop is fully charged (for example, with the sidebar, etc.), screen is tinted yellow everywhere, mouse will be usable for a few seconds, then the screen will turn black (and monitor goes into power save).  At some point during this "crash", also spaced (semi-transparent) blue vertical lines appear across entire screen.
    2. when to restart after above, screen resolution will be wrong / fuzzy.  If I hit F12 to access boot options, screen will often be blurred, as if the 5th or 6th characters are displayed.
    3. when to reboot, usually see a series of alternating blue and black lines vertical on the screen (as in 1, above).
    4. the machine will go into safe mode and will apparently operate for at least an hour (longer that I tested) without crashing.

Note that, after doing the cleaning Vista install, I reinstalled manually all the Windows updates in chronological order from 2007 to 2010.  I deliberately did not install updates of February 2010.

    Help, please!

    I appreciate the response.

Other threads that I've read have concerned me about rootkits atapi.sys and iastor.sys.

Given that I am able to boot in safe mode, and now (after the 'clean' Vista installation and reformat my C drive) with several hours of availability after normal boot, am I probably not a problem of rootkit?

  • Satellite L300D - 13 X: Vista crashes everytime during the installation of updates

    Hello!

    I have a Satellite L300D Vista HB.

It started with the machine crashing, thought it would be OK after reinstalling operating system.
But it hangs whenever he has installed updates.

    Anyone experienced the same problem?

I know, I can just ignore the updates, or choose another OS, but what I would like to know if there is a general failure with this machine and updates.
It must be some recent updates to this year, since the problem first started a few weeks ago.

    Hello

I never had problems with the Vista updates.
Sometimes I need to update the driver WLan driver sound to the latest version after Vista has received some updates, but the operating system has never crashed.
But I switched to Windows 7 and now I m using the latest Win 7 OS which is much better than Vista.

I don't know why the updates affect the mobile-specific features; m may be due to old drivers.
Maybe you should install Vista and should update the OS before installing drivers or software

Original title: Lenovo SL500 Windows Vista crashed with STOP error message and won't start

    Hello peoples,
I just installed an iMicro Bluetooth adapter on my computer, and then I wanted to restart my computer. When I turned it on, loading like regular until right after the Vista loading screen, when the Blue Screen of Death (a blue screen with an error on this subject) flashed for about 1/2 second and then restarted my computer. Then he asked me if I wanted to load startup repair or simply start WIndows normally and I chose to start WIndows normally, but it's the same thing, so when the computer is restarted again, I chose the Startup Repair. He said that if I inserted an external device in my computer for me to remove it. But I had no external devices in my computer at the same time! I already pulled the iMicro adapter! So when my computer restarted again, I pressed the button Lenovo Care and charge of Lenovo Rescue and Recovery 4. (This is where I am now, typing away in the Opera browser.) I tried to find help, but could not find anythign useful so far. I installed for many drivers, updates, patches, etc. But none have anything to remove the blue screen of death. Now, after 7 hours, I really frustrated, and this is my last hope! (I don't want to save my hard drive and reinstall, because I paid more than 250 applications and more than 270 free programs on my computer! Of more, more than 350 iPad apps, of which a few are paid! Oh and 700 iBooks!)
Help, please! I'm really desperate right now, and any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

PS I run Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 (I think) on a Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 (NOT SL500c!)

PPS Lenovo all computers have this Lenovo Rescue Recovery 4, which is like an operating system of its own. It has a browser that you can install updates and other things. Right now I use Rescue and Recovery. Thanks again in advance and please answer my question! I had this problem for a week and I'm in school tomorrow! Thanks again!

If you have not saved the document before the reboot - and Windows always give a lot of warning before restarting automatically - while the file disappeared.  There is no way to recover; System Restore does apply to system files, not data.

    Hi JX2,.

    1. you receive an error message?
