Vista - cannot search updates

I am currenty running windows Vista Home Basic.  On my system tray, it shows the icon of update of windows, with a bubble of information indicating he can't watch updates.  I followed another thread would advise to check for malware using mircosoft's malicious software removal tool. He found nothing.  I also tried to download and install the analysis tool.  I could go as far as the "checking files" in the installation process and seem to be just hanging there. It has been several hours.  Any advise? The only firewall I have is windows.

Hello

·        What are the updates that you try to install on the system?

·        Did you install the updates on the system before with no problems?

·        Remember to make changes to the system?

·        You get the error message? If Yes, what is the exact error message?

I suggest you to check in the patches installed on the system if the .net framework is installed on the system or not.

  • Cannot search for windows update, error800700B7

Original title: Vista 2. Windows Update says first major update but cannot search updates. I get error code 800700B 7.

I fight with my laptop Acer Aspire 5313 since before the new year, trying to get my Media Player to work... trying to get my updates to load and I finally did a restore disk in desperation. I noticed when I did restore the Version of Windows Vista Home Premium it restored to was that for Service Pack 1, it should have been 2 Pack and registration of license # is different from that on the Windows label on the bottom. I downloaded the Service Pack 2 of MicroSoft.com as my laptop came with ANY disks and I thought I'd finally be able to perform the necessary updates and get at least my laptop up and running again as it was before the problems started. When I try to get the updates, it says I must first update Windows Update. I try to update, update and get tells me it can not search for updates. error code 800700B 7. Help! Please...

    Hello
You can follow the steps and then check.

    Step 1:
You can try to disable the antivirus installed on your computer software.
You can see the following link.
    Disable the anti-virus software
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2:
You can try to reset the Windows Update components. Read the following article.
How to reset the Windows Update components?
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058
