  • Pavilion dv6700: Pavilion laptop computer under Vista: Windows does not start, the Startup Repair cannot fix it. What to do next?

    Hello
    My laptop seven year old made me proud til yesterday, but now it does not fire upwards. Instead, it hangs for a minute or two (black screen, no HARD drive light blinks, nothing), while it charges to a screen with two options - either start the system restart or start Windows normally. The second option takes me around the loop again. The first option tells me that it cannot fix the problem automatically. When I display the error details, it lists all of the tests, as adopted successfully, but ends with the words: "Root cause found: failure so that the Setup program is underway.

    I'm sure I know why she fell: two days ago, I left all my files on a portable player and defragmented the disk. The idea was to speed up the machine and get it running like new. He immediately started to hang when connecting, so I thought, well I'll go for a complete restoration of the system. I followed the procedure using the disks provided with the machine, and that's when it stopped working completely. I felt that this was more than the aging than HARD drive could take.

    My attempts at rejuvenation have actually caused his untimely death? Or is there a difficulty - something I could undertake?

    Or should I just bite the bullet and go and buy a new machine? When everything (screen, keyboard and trackpad) worked so well, it seems a shame...

    Any help or thoughts welcome. Thank you

    If you really want to resurrect, you could certainly purchase a new hard drive and try to restore the system of work using the recovery media - but then, even if it did work, you would have still lost all your data, settings, and applications in the process - and having to reinstall all your applications everywhere again.

    Hey, don't feel bad, I'm guilty of this too - has recently attempted to resurrect an era Tablet XP PC so that it can run Win10!  He went from XP to Vista, Win7, for Win8 - and along the way, gains of new memory and drives hard - but the Win10 bet was too.  So, I got to a "give up to use it.

    However, I also kept a cell phone 5 year alive by replacing the HDD with a SSD and adding more memory.  So now it is faster than ever, it has been and works like new.

    But... He has NO touchscreen, there no USB3 ports, it doesn't have 1 GB ethernet - and the list goes.

    Thus, it works very well for what we use it for - but it can't really be upgraded, so sooner or later, we will have to replace it.

    Everything depends on how much you need 'new' - touch screen, stylus, handwriting, camera, 3 USB ports, display port jack, HDMI ports... etc.

  • Vista Defrag does not work continues by saying defragmentation will improve performance after hours of defragmentation

    I ran Defrag Vista several times (each for hours) and always says that "defragment your drive hard drive will improve the performance.

    It seems that he never really ran that whole defragmentation at all! It is perhaps also the reason why Defrag Vista does not display progress with graphical display. It does not work.

    Who out there can help find a Defrag Vista work?

    Thank you

    Hello

    The Vista defrag works quietly in the background without intervention on your part

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/942092

    In Windows Vista, there are a lot of improvements in the defrag engine and handling of fragmentation. By default, Windows Vista uses Task Scheduler to automatically keep the defragmented hard drive. This Automatic defragmentation does not affect the performance of the Windows Vista operating system...

    If you want to use a much better defragmentation program which is free and where you can see the results, I suggest this one:

    And that way if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Data recovery:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    Go to your retail store, they should have the disk recovery for you or you need to go to your manufacturer directly because the manufacturer is best qualified to support the software that the manufacturer has installed on the hardware, provide your serial number and order the CD on their part. I bet they arrange an expedition to the France and tax treatment for it, but should not be too much.

    Note: The manufacturer was required to provide a way to reinstall Windows. If it is not a set of disks with the computer, there will be a hidden restore partition (do not be confused with the system restore), you would use to return the computer to the State of the OOBE (Out of Box Experience).

    Hi Ad-HocHelp,

    (1) since when are you facing this problem?

    (2) remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

    Step 1: Disconnect all external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) readers, etc...) Except the keyboard and mouse and then start.

    If this solves the problem, then add back devices at a time until you discover the piece of hardware causing the issue.  Then get any drivers\software update for the device.

    Step 2: Run the Startup Repair tool, follow the steps mentioned in the link below to access the system recovery tools.

  • Satellite A200 PSAF6A - Vista now does not start

    A200 PSAF6A - 02C01N Vista built-in HARD drive recovery

    My friend used this PC and she just closes without warning.
    Vista won't start now... Turn it on and it starts to load then apparently hangs on a blank black screen just before the Welcome screen.

    I tried to use Linux to access the drive to get its stuff out before you reinstall, but several different versions of Linux can not install Windows.

    I tried the system recovery running now the 0 key during startup, then releasing 0 when the pc started to beep.
    Starts the recovery of loading, then the screen goes blank for a while, then rises... error... F3-F000-0001 error code... Press ok to reboot.
    Press ok, error message will... screen is blank... drive hard HDD light shows work... but it is not closed.

    Tried to launch a drive to reformat Vista. Boots in the disk, loads the files then crashes, just like the original problem, on a white screen.

    Tried the XP disk running... works well until it gets to the part where you choose where you want to install... and said... cannot install on this pc it is no hard drive!

    Tried formatting disk with Gnome Partition Editor... It hangs in the review of the disc.

    I think the next thing to try is to throw the thing out of a tall building and see if it can fly...

    Anyone got any ideas?

  • (Vista) computer does not start properly (Please HELP)

    My guarded vista stop without known reason. He started up the main login screen and I could connect. After that so long it would just turn off. I did a system restore, system repair at startup and F8 pressed and is entered in safe mode. Now, I have a new problem. He worked for a few hours. Enough to do a bit of homework. Then suddenly it disconnects and begins to do the updates for windows. Then it goes to a black screen and tells me what he planned for a clean disk. So he goes through this process and restarts. Now it is impossible to get pass Part 3 of 3 updates and it just stays at 0%. He will remain on this page for about a minute and just keeps restarting itself. I tried F8 again and cannot get into safe mode. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY COMPUTER HELP ME! (PS: now I use my laptop which is a XP!) Help, please!

  • What to do with my computer laptop windows vista which does not start? He gets a screen before before her windows error recovery screen restarts.

    Tittle says it all, I tried safe mode and the rest of them, but I can't start

    Restore point:

    Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.

    Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...

    Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If restore work not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
    Got a response from Ms.  Good all who have this problem - you have an ATI Radeon graphics card?  Driver is causing the conflict.  Uninstall all the stuff ATI goes on ATI web site and install the download of 'single driver '.  Reboot and then you can download and install other fancy programs that come with your graphics card.
