NEW HARD DRIVE NOW WINDOWS ACTIVATION ERROR PLEASE HELP
I bought 2 Dell inspiron laptop computer n5040 in July 2010 for my son. In October, the hard drive failed completely on one and had to be replaced. I have re-installed all software using the disks of backup/recovery system, I created when we first arrived the laptops. Has been a lot of work, but then I got the Activate message windows however, the label key at the bottom of the laptop is so faded, I can do only 15 first numbers/letters. I've run magical jelly bean and typed in the key, it gave me. However, this proved be the key to the other laptop. Apparently, when I did the re - install the system disks copied this information too.
I contacted Dell to find the right key and they have been very useful and after many emails, checking the laptop / proof of purchase etc, they agreed to send me a re-installation disc that would solve the problem.
My 30 days are up, and I constantly get the non-genuine message. Disk hadn't come in December (be they sent to my old address even if I confirm my new address 3 times). Finally, have them yesterday but not lucky me they sent me a disc to install windows 8. I don't want windows 8, I want to stay under windows 7. It is now October and I'm really tired now. Is can someone please tell me how to find the original key for my laptop so I can reactivate windows.
Thank you very much.
Teena
You're out of luck, because the media keys and recovery of COSTS directly from Dell would have been your best two options, the only other thing you can do if you really need Windows 7 is to buy a full version license:
Where can I still get Windows 7?
Full version - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate - full version
Full version - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional

Reinstalling Vista on a new hard drive in a Dell XPS420
I have been using my Dell XPS 420 for years, but lately the C: drive (with Windows Vista Home Premium and the recovery partition) are dead. I had to reinstall Vista on a new hard drive. It went well until Vista was finished all the updates that are accumulated. He says that my Windows is not genuine, and he refused to go further than the connection. The Windows CD is Dell and it came with the computer. My Dell warranty expired a long time ago. Can anyone help?
Using the recovery process of the manufacturer normally does not require activation. It will activate itself during the recovery process.
Product key and product ID are two different things

Satellite L350D-21 problems using new HARD drive recovery recovery disks
Hello
I have laptop SATELLITE L350D-212 with windows 7 Home premium OA.
He started to complain that there is something wrong with the hard drive so I went and bought another hard drive of the same size.I created the recovery disk when the computer was purchased and have backup of all the data in an external hard drive.
After I changed the new hard drive to the laptop and tried to boot from the recovery disc, nothing happens eventhoug I can see it seems to be all Ok with the disc.
Any ideas on how to get to run to the new hard drive recovery?
I have the old hard drive attached as external drive via the USB port, but cannot boot from that too. It just stops at a certain point and told to stop.
Hello
Usually, the recovery disk must format the new HARD drive but I recommend you to join the new HARD drive as an external device to another computer and format the new HARD drive before trying to recover the laptop.
Once the HARD drive has been formatted, connect it to the L350D and boot from the recovery disc
Good luck

Loading Vista on a new hard drive
I would like to re - install Windows Vista on a new hard drive on a laptop HP Pavilion DV6000 of portable entertainment is since 2007. Now, the laptop came with Vista pre-installed. The laptop came with a system recovery disk. My question is: this disk contains Windows Vista I need to load new hard disk?
GaryRob
Yes assuming that the new hard disk is at least as large as the former, system recovery disk is exactly what you need to restore the PC as long as you plant. Simply tap on F9 you turn on with the disc in the drive and select the DVD as a source of start-up and follow on-screen prompts. You'll need to do a lot of updates, but you will have a working computer.

How can I install a new HARD drive recovery DVD?
Hello!
Have you checked the BIOS if the new HARD drive is recognized properly?
Maybe the new drive HARD isn t working properly and if the BIOS doesn't recognize it. Then you are also not able to install the disc of recovery on this subject.Normally, you only have to boot from the recovery disc and follow the instructions on the screen. All that s.

Migration to Vista Home Premium programs and files for Windows 7 Ultimate
Hi guys, I just want to know if there's no possibilities
to migrate from installed programs and files in my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate
--------------------------------
Also if I have Vista Home Premium should I switch to Windows 7 Home Premium too. I want to Windows 7 Ultimate!
Hello
You can upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium or ultimate; the choice is yours.
«Compare the editions of Windows 7»
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/compare
If you go from Vista 32 bit Home Premiun 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, you can do an inplace upgrade.
The same goes for Vista 64 bit for Windows 7 64-bit
This will keep your programs and data intact.
But ALWAYS make a backup of data when you perform this type of work on your computer.
"How to do an Installation of upgrade Inplace of Vista to Windows 7"
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/1818-upgrade-install-Windows-7-a.html
And before you buy Windows 7 read and check to see if your computer is able to use Windows 7 to its best advantage:
Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=20
Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:
"Windows 7 system requirements"
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/system-requirements
"Windows 7 Compatibility Center" for software and hardware:
http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
Windows 7 upgrade paths:
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772579 (v = ws.10) .aspx
And the Microsoft Store where you can get an idea of the price of Windows 7:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/list/CategoryID.50726100
See you soon.
p.s. If you want from 32-bit to 64-bit, or 64 bit to 32 bit, upgrade facilities are not available.
You will need to do a clean install.

Using Vista Home Premium 64 x. In Windows Explorer how to group by name to display with the simple letters like A, B, C, D, etc. instead of A - H, P, Q - Z? In XP, it could be sorted by simple letter, which makes it easier in a folder with many files. Thanks in advance.
