  The Net is full of scams like the one you describe.

  Either they want you sell software without value or plant spyware to steal banking passwords and / or make an identity theft on you.

  You should never give someone at - it remote access to your computer.

  And if you already have an Antivirus installed, you do not install another AV before removing the first.

  More than one AV installed will cause system problems.

  But my advice to you is to backup your data and reinstall the operating system.

  It's the only way you'll know for certain that you deleted something they've installed.

  Also change the banking and credit card details / passwords with your credit card company, Bank.

  I'm a newbie enough on Mac, having changed my PC a couple of years ago.  I don't have to download Sophos Anti-virus at the moment where I bought the iMac.  I have the OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4 edition.  I had very few problems until recently when I seemed to download a virus or a trojan.  I was actually going to favourable sites when it happened and happened twisted things and something came and said that I had downloaded a virus.  Don't know what the program which has been notified me.

  It takes forever, forever, to run the anti-virus program Sophus, like 2 weeks to do (and it scans 2 external drives from 1 to 3 terabytes).

  He did not find "viruses", but did fine "an item found" and "detected problems."  When I open the Quarantine Manager, he has a list of 109 separate lines (files) and named the whole Genieo thing.  All but two of the 109 lines have the extension "pdf.pronto" and are listed in my external hard drive (Seagate Backup Plus drive).  Both of which do not have the extension of pdf.pronto have ' macOS/appYM' and Kuklorist in line, like an uninstall and the other as "Application Support/Kuklorist".

  I think I have maybe two? problems, as Genieo and Kuklorist, but that might have a single with two names.  I'm not sure.

  A - J Sophos program could not automatically delete the files and told to remove them manually.  I have trouble finding a way to do it.  I looked in the community of Apple support and got a few suggestions more elderly (year 2014 and 2015), but cannot follow the steps (I can't use the Finder to locate the lines I should copy.)  I need help, anyone?

  To get rid of the current problem you can restore your system to the State it was before the infection if you have made the system images.  Otherwise, see SpiritX advice in How to remove spyware from the computer

  You can use Microsoft Security Essentials in the future with an anti-spyware application [many are recommended in other threads].

  You can not upgrade to Windows 7, and then use the Vista OS you used as part of the upgrade to install another (even virtual).

  There is no Vista free download legal available.

  And Microsoft provide no DVD for computers of the brand OEM (Dell, HP, etc).

  Borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
  A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
  The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

  There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

• Important file deleted my Windows vista operating system using my anti virus!

  I removed 'c:\programdata\microsoft\search\data\applications\windows\mss03e68.log' using my anti virus. Now, I think it was a bad idea. Anti virus says it was a hidden folder and acted as a rootkit! So I took it without knowing what it was! This file is important? What is this for? BTW windows vista home edition OS.   I agree, you can't go wrong with Server 2003 as a VMware host OS. We have standardized on using Ubuntu 8.04.1 as our host operating system, but before you make the choice, we did tests with up to 32 virtual machines running simultaneously on a Dell PE 2950 with two Quad Core Xeon, 32 GB of RAM and 6 300 GB 15kRPM SAS drives in RAID 10. We found stability and performance under Server 2003 Enterprise to be just as good as in Ubuntu Linux. Our choice of Ubuntu as our host what OS was unrelated to performance or defects of stability in 2003 and I recommend it as a VMware host to any operating system.
