Professional Notepad HP comes with a few operating system options. In your case I guess you bought Windows Vista Business not the one with downgrade to Windows XP Professional custom installed. I don't know that you have noticed the price different between them, when you bought it. That's why HP comes not install Vista or XP CD/DVD, on the contrary of what they provide you with a picture of the Vista.the price also applied to technical support for it.

However, IMHO, you still have the right to go down, according to Ms. doc here, and I quote:

Can I downgrade my OEM version of Windows Vista business to Windows XP Professional?

Yes. Right of demotion OEM desktop operating systems PC apply to Windows Vista business and Windows Vista Edition full, as stated in the terms of the license. Please note, downgrade versions OEM Windows Vista business and Windows Vista Ultimate are limited to Windows XP Professional (including Windows XP Edition Tablet PC and Windows XP x 64 edition). End users can use the following media for their downgrade: Volume Licensing media (provided that the end-user has a Volume License Agreement), trade retail (FPP) or System Builder hologram CD (provided that the software is acquired in accordance with the Microsoft OEM System Builder License). Use of degraded operating system is governed by the Windows Vista Business license terms, and the end user cannot use the downgrade and professional Windows Vista operating system. There is no right of demotion for Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Edition Home Premium.

How downgrade it legally? You must use legal XP installation CD. It would be difficult for someone who did not, the legal XP CD Installer can be RETAIL or Volume License one but OEM XP install CD may not be. New measures can be found here

There will be a few questions of MS before they agreed to activate it. Some people find it very easy, but others do not. Try it and post your experience here.

  • Upgrade to Vista Business downgraded to XP 7

I recently bought a laptop HP Compaq 8710w comes with Vista Business downgraded to XP Professional. I ordered my upgrade kit, as I understand it will take to do me a clean install. My question is, I will receive a copy at retail of Windows 7, which also includes good 32-bit and 64-bit, or will I receive only the 32-bit version? If I get only the 32-bit version, it will be specific to my serial number or I'll be able to get on ebay and trade it for a 64-bit version?

It seems almost right that I have to do a clean install anything, I should be locked in the 32-bit version. As long as I do a clean install, it seems that I should be able to upgrade to 64-bit.

    Thank you

    Tyler

I think that you will have 32 bits by default, you can usually contact Microsoft directly and they will send 64-bit as long as you have a valid product key.

If you want Windows XP Pro on a new machine, Windows Vista (Business or Ultimate), and then downgrade
I don't know how many people is aware of this, but if you buy a Windows Vista Business or Ultimate then you can use a Windows XP CD (that you have legal access to) to load Windows XP on this machine.

When you need the product key / or need to activate, it will potentially fail, but a simple call to with your Vista product key activation center should give you all the details you need. Then, when you're ready to put Vista on this machine, you can do without the purchase of this new cost. Alternatively, you can buy Windows XP today and if you want to load Vista, you can give more money to a store for a copy again.

  • How can I get a key product validation for Windows XP to the OEM of Vista Business downgrade, which came with my laptop?

I recently bought an Asus laptop that came with a genuine product key Vista Business OEM. I want to downgrade to XP and have installed a copy of XP OEM for this purpose I have found information on the internet indicating that I would be able to contact Microsoft, explain my desire to downgrade, to provide them with my Vista Business product key, and they would provide me a product key for XP, I could then use to activate the copy of XP I have installed.

However, it seems that it is more possible, because all the support activation is automated, and I was able to get a Microsoft service on the phone representative to activate my new installation of XP. How can I do to receive a product key for XP and activation of my installation?

    Thank you

    Scott

Thanks for the replies, you two! I called Asus, and they said that, since they do not recommend the downgrade, they do not downgrade disks provide, or provide for XP Pro license keys in case a user wants to downgrade. I told them about the rights of download, which I had heard before on the MS site support and they have always said they wouldn't / couldn't provide me with a license key, even if it was for OEM Windows XP distribution. Ah, well!

I don't think that Asus just "recommended" it or not!

    They must conform to Microsoft.

  • The addition of Vista Business downgrade

My office (more than 25 computers) has a computer with Windows Vista Business edition and it's completely screwing of the network (all other computers use XP Pro).  I found this site: http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9040318/FAQ_Giving_up_on_Vista_Here_s_how_to_downgrade_to_XP , explaining if you own Windows Vista professional edition you can downgrade to Windows XP Professional for free.  My company wants to do that.

This pdf file: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/f/4/5f4c83d3-833e-4f11-8cbd-699b0c164182/royaltyoemreferencesheet.pdf more supported article and informed me that we have the right to downgrade.  I remembered to Microsoft technical support and was directed to the Department of licensing and they put me on hold for more than an hour to inform me that I have to pay $ 60 to get the support to do what my company has the RIGHT to do it for free.

I do not understand why microsoft has a PDF (on their website) explaining the cost free downgrade rights, but once I try to follow upwards, they try to charge me for the downgrade.  It was a huge mistake to trust Vista as being an operating system viable decent in the first place.  Even Microsoft themselves intrinsically admits Vista how shit is through their windows 7 ads.  Not only there all non-intuitive user problems, but it destroyed our database software and network when attempting to use it.

My boss has suggested that we should upgrade to windows 7 on the network, but after the troubles I had with Vista and the lack of responsibility that Microsoft took to my companies case, I have no other choice to the strongly advise against it.

I just tell my story in hopes that it might be a better way to solve the problem than to talk with someone on the phone that I understand not (for lack of comprehensible English).  Although I did not understand "pay 60 dollars and we will help you" he also at support.Microsoft.com for assistance.

Thank you for your time in reading this and your understanding of my frustration.  I appreciate what you can do for me.

Why I said to contact Dell, HP, it is because they are called OEM:

An original OEMor OEM, manufactures products or components that are purchased by a company and sold under the brandof purchase of the company. OEM refers to the company that has manufactured the origin of the product.

  • How downgrade Vista to XP Professional professional?

I have a HP that was purchased with Vista Business downgraded to XP Professional.  It crashed after about a year and would not restart correctly.  A local technology recovered data and then tried to reinstall the system with the original disks.  He said he could only install Vista Business.  I tried Vista briefly and do not want to use it, but want to go back to XP

I have the DVD 3 - restoration of HP;  Vista Business SP1.  Pack multiple language for use with Vista 32 bit.  I also have a CD with XP SP2.

For any other problem, contact HP:

    http://welcome.HP.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then restart with the XP disk in the drive.

Then follow the steps below to do a clean install.

Once installed, reload ALL your other programs of original media, or download again.

Reload all drivers and utilities for your motherboard.

  • 10 windows on Portege R600 - my experience

The Toshiba Portégé R600 is an older laptop which is official supported by Toshiba for Windows Vista, XP (downgrade), and Windows 7. But it appears to perform reasonably well 10 64-bit Windows. There's a thing I have with build Windows 10 Insider Preview 10074. She stops booting, with circular points from their round forever. (bootlog mode will show the reason)

What you do is boot in safe mode. Disabled the second entry for the graphic card in Device Manager. Windows starts normally. I hope that I can get with Microsoft to fix this stupid bug.

I don't know how this will affect build upgrades in the future.

    Other things of maintenance:

The thermal grease for the graphics card becomes a heat insulating powder useless over time. This will appear as a graphical corruption on the screen, short lines that will show the strange colors. If you open the laptop (Tip: bin for the screws), slide it gently open and cables sheet, there is a yellow sink on the back side. The white heat pinkish dough will collapse right away. For the moment, I redid with a Coolermaster thermal grease, but I think this will give the same problem later. Maybe I'll get myself some K5 - Pro, as this seems to be a silicone rubber which is more sticky without being a glue. And it should be replaced the torn thermal pad on the CPU too. Although a shim copper could work there too.

Notice of Windows troubleshooting will tell you there are drivers available, with links to download and install them manually. Do not use them, because they are Windows Vista drivers. It won't destroy anything, but they have some quirks. Simply download drivers 64 bit of Windows 7 on the Toshiba site.

It can accommodate 4 GB of RAM, bringing the total up to 5 GB. It can take memory is either labelled PC2 800 MHz or DDR2 6400.

A Corsair SSD BX100 works very well in it. But the disk controller is only SATA 2.0, so you will get half the speeds you will see benchmarked elsewhere. Don't forget device initiated Power Management (DIPM) enabled, as the BX100 falling to 250mAh to ~ 50mAh in this mode.

'VAT package' for Windows 8 64 bit for the Toshiba R700 will bring back most of the hotkey features. Unfortunately, this breaks the brightness control buttons, but you can adjust the brightness elsewhere. With this driver package, the pure Transflective mode works again.

Someone put up a "feature pack" for graphics drivers, which brings superior versions of OpenGL that have been supported by Intel on Windows 7 driver and earlier versions. And it installs the program in the task bar that allows you to control the graphics settings. That said, those that have been deleted for some reason (e.g. bugs), YMMV Yes. The video acceleration of h.264/AVC, through DXVA works even without this "feature pack".

I have not found an ALPS touchpad driver who survives on standby. Without the driver for the touchpad, it is just a touch pad without scrolling on the right side area. It works, but it would be nice to be able to scroll.

If you think your system is very slow, maybe check the BIOS [ESC then F1] on the second page [Fn + SHIFT + 9] if everything is set for maximum performance. The lower settings are there for the older operating systems that have no power which is own management (BACK). It will put the CPU in gas mode where it's the departure 50% of the time.

The battery life is of the order of the 4h30m with a new battery, according to 'powercfg /batteryreport '. Mine is a little older and will hit 4 hours. Something like 5 in the save mode [Fn + F2] Toshiba power.

Thank you very much for your report detailed on Win10 on Portege R60.

  • dc5800 sff computer of office: purchase recovery disc for dc5800 sff system, model KA404UT #ABA

I am the 2nd owner of computer and appears as former owner had installed a Dell on this HP operating system. would be OK but drive hard contains of disk errors that Windows cannot fix. Leading to intermittent shutdowns and all kinds of fluctuations to get a Win 7 upgrade disk to restart Windows. HP does not sell the RRD more. I'd be willing to pay for the discs, if someone has a set of left.

    Hello:

Most of the dc5800 comes with Windows Vista Business or Vista Business downgraded to XP Pro, like yours, so HP has never had recovery disc for the dc5800 W7.

    https://h10057.www1.HP.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/provisioner/05/KA404UT.htm

You call this number (USA/Canada) to see if HP recovery Vista Business left discs?

Demand for 64-bit because otherwise you will get 32 bits.

    1-800-334-5144

If they do not, you can still get a set of this provider not HP - looks like only 32-bit however.

You can call and ask if they have Vista Business 64-bit games.

  • Satellite A305 - access a card SDHC on XP

    Hello
I recently bought an A305D-S6851 with Vista and downgraded to XP.
Everything works great and it's great, but recently, I wanted to use the slot for memory card and load my 4 GB SDHC memory card, but I put it and nothing happens.
I have the drivers for the slot installed correctly, and after searching the forums, I discovered that I need a XP - KB934428 fix. I installed it and it does not solve the problem, and then I saw another post saying KB923293 that sorted. Once again, installed and nothing.

So I'm in a bit of a dead end here. Drivers? Check. Patches? Check.
In fact, I doubt that it's a problem of laptop because I go through the same process of problem solving on a desktop computer with a USB card reader and it can also read the card.
However, this isn't the card because until I moved to XP on the laptop I managed to access it with the slot with any problem.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Len

Have you tested with 1 or 2 GB card? Is the result the same?
What is with the other compatible cards? Have you tested some of them?

  • Satellite L305-S5933 - need driver Webcam and microphone

    Hello guys.

First of all, sorry my poor English.

Recentlly I bought a toshiba L305-S5933 and by the problems of Vista I downgraded to Win XP.

So I have so many problems with the drivers of the keys FN and Multi Media (multi media drivers = pause/play-stop-previous-next buttons w. media player and winamp, etc) the multimedia keys I fix with a few downloads.

I do many searches and downloads, and with this low I can fix the multimedia keys for win media players (that touches race only in WMP, Winamp don't work (I don't know why :()))

    CMOD 20080908150253
    chopsticks-en-200809088163414
    BIOS-200811061217

But the keys FN (FN + light + /, FN + Wirelles, etc, etc, etc) I can't fix.

I need help to fix all the FN keys, but do not know much about laptops.
I read a few posts from Jeff, with the right answers, if you can, please help, man.

    Hi dude

L305-S5933 is an American notebook series. I found it on the Toshiba page we and drivers should be published on this page:
    http://www.CSD.Toshiba.com/cgi-bin/TAIS/support/JSP/home.jsp?NAV=download

    > I do many searches and downloads, and with this low I can fix the multimedia keys for win media players (that touches race only in WMP, Winamp don't work (I don't know why))

The Toshiba control buttons (play, pause, stop, etc.) are assigned to Windows Media Player.
If you want to use these buttons in WinAmp, then you must activate it in the settings of WinAmp.

I think that you should look into the Options-> settings-> global shortcuts (or something like that).
    Here, you check the options.

    See you soon

  • Satellite Pro L300D extinguish once Windows XP stops.

Hello... I was wondering if someone can help me!
I have a ProL300D Satellite, and it's just more than a year. I had to turn off problems with it pretty much because I had, but after reloading XP four or five times, I decided to stay with restarting the laptop before stopping, he... But now that uni is finished for the year, I thought I'd have a go at sorting out again.

It basically stop Windows very well, although he does not seem to take a long time, then the screen goes black but the laptop has turned off. The green light is still on, and the screen stays on. As I said above, if I restart before stopping, then it stops without problem, also if I watch DVDs and do not go online, it stops without problem. If it goes into Stand By mode (it does on a critical battery, only about 3%, as I put it to "never" in the power settings, a cure can be read in another forum), it won't do anything and must be turned off by pressing the button. It gets stuck in all that he did and restart etc. The laptop came with Vista and an XP downgrade.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

You have problem with Vista before downgrading to XP? It may be OS/drivers or hardware problem. I found something interesting on shutdown restart troubleshooting. Do not know if this can help you:

  • Not possible to install XP on Satellite P200 PSPB3E

    Hello

I have a PSPB3E satellite; my friend and I tried to install Win XP on this laptop.
W have all of the drivers, on the site of toshiba, (also the SATA driver diskette), but it seems impossible to install XP.

We need XP for medical application (ultrasound). Uptill now, we tried: vista House downgrade to xp--> without success.
HARD drive total format; boot from the XP cd--> without success.

All the partitions have been deleted. We do not know what do us wrong. Al 1 last time XP installed OK but after he was scheduled to return: he had a blue screen for a second and you can only start up in save mode... and even that does not work.

Does anyone know what do us wrong, or someone has a solution for us?
Maybe the only way is to build in a new clean HARD drive?

    Hello

I m not 100% sure what harm s but I assume that the bad Intel Matrix Storage Manger has been installed.
Please visit the page of the Toshiba driver and download the Intel Storage Manager.

Do you use the Win XP OS, which includes SP2?
You must use a MS XP CD with SP2! It is very important

Friend here is my advice; I think you need to create a new XP CD using a freeware program called nLite (try Google for this program).
Then you could include SP2 and the (driver sata) Intel Storage Manager using the nLite to the XP operating system.

Finally, you should boot from the XP CD created new and should use it to reinstall XP on the P200 ;)

    Good luck
