VM Workstation 10 and VT - d

Hello

I use 10 VM workstation on a Windows 7 host and run 30 + VMs, I do not use EXSi due to problems with GPU 3D.

Can I get a performance improvement while having a compatible CPU VT - d?

Note: im not configure anything associated with VT - d, I just turn the VM Workstation 10, install virtual machines and run.

Thank you.

VT improved some features such as network performance, conversation between comments and VMM (or hypervisor) and direct IO. In VMware Workstation, I believe that the improvements are very tiny because air work stations is greater than General fresh ESXi.

  • VMWare Workstation 8 and 9

I can install Workstation 8 and 9 on the same PC (Windows XP SP3 home edition).

    Reason:

I have a VM that work perfectly on Workstation 8 and I buy upgrade and update Workstation 8 to 9 of the workstation to create a new Virtual Machine with Windows 8.

This new machine works fine, but the old machine did not start with the following message:

"This virtual machine policies are too old to be run by this version of VMware Workstation. Contact your system administrator. »

I use all of the solutions found on the community, but all have failed and is important for me to use this old virtual machine.

  • Workstation 6 and the XP Mode from Windows 7 Pro

    Hello

I wonder if somone can offer some advice?

I am running Workstation 6.0.2 build 59824 - I recently created a Windows 7 professional virtual machine under the ' option (experimental) Edition of Windows Server 2008 x 64. Successfully installed Windows 7 and it works fine.

However, I now have a need to run it in XP Mode to run legacy applications.

I successfully installed XP Mode, but when I run it, I get this message:

Cannot start windows virtual pc because hardware virtualization support is disabled.

I downloaded the utility HAV to check if she is capable of hardware virtualization, which checked OK.

    My PC is a HP DX5750 (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Dual Core 4200 +, 2.19 Ghz, 3.00 RAM).

There is an option in the BIOS called "Virtualization Technology", which I ACTIVATED.

But I think there may be something I need to change in the VMWARE Workstation environment, perhaps in the vmx configuration file?

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

    Thank you.

    Dave.

Workstation 6 is not virtualize vitualization material assistance of the physical processor features.  To do this, it should be at least Workstation 8 and an AMD processor with the IVR support.

However, there is a patch for Windows Virtual PC that will allow the use of binary translation instead of hardware-assisted virtualization.  See http://blogs.msdn.com/b/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/03/18/windows-virtual-pc-no-hardware-virtualization-update-now-available-for-download.aspx

It will be slow running a VM nested this way.

  • Workstation 8 and install XP

I worked around this just by using an iso direct rather than a xp installation cd. When I insert a win xp sp3 vmware disk it recognizes when you create the virtual machine and that it not auto config stuff. But after I click Finish and the installation and put the virtual machine for the first time that I get CDBOOT: couldn't find ntldr. I tried a different couple of xp sp3 CD all with the same luck. I have not tried to install any other OS but hope I don't run into the same problem. Any ideas what is causing this issue? I use these CD even on ordinary desktop computers without problem so I have a feeling it has something to do with a setting somewhere in the workstation 8 and the dvd player.

    Thank you

Try toggling the emulation of legacy in the settings of the virtual computer CD-ROM drive.

    Hi all

I just downloaded the trail for vmware workstation 8 and wanted to try the option of viewing with one of my virtual machines created.  I read that now, this option is only for modern processor. my processor is an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 which has the set of instructions VT - x visualisation. When I enable the option for my virtual machine I get the following error message "Virtualized Intel VT-x/EPT requires the support of Intel VT-x/EPT platform" I have this option enabled in my BIOS and have one of the most up-to-date versions of the BIOS for my motherboard.

It of just my CPU not supported by vmware or is there some kind in order to get this to work with my setup?

  • VMWare Workstation 12 and 18 of Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04) and vmware tools or open-vmware-tools

I created a new virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build-3770994 with a guest OS from Linux Mint 18 (which is built on top of Ubuntu 16.04). I have two monitors on my system, the two 2560 x 1440. I am unable to get this virtual machine Linux Mint 18 to cover all of my two monitors when I disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my vm settings, I get an error. I have another Linux Mint 17 VM running on the same VMWare Workstation 12 on the same host machine from Windows 10 and it is able to expand on my two monitors very well with "Accelerate 3D graphics" disabled, but he does not open-vmware-tools.

I have read instructions telling me to install open-vm-Tools-Office in this guest operating system of Linux Mint 18. I did it. Then I restart the guest operating system. When starting, I can click on 'Enter full screen mode' in my menu of VMWare Workstation, and the guest OS has a monitor as expected. When I then click on "Cycle multiple monitors", I get the following error. "The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected screen layout. If you add a monitor to the host computer, you must turn off and turn on the virtual machine to use this monitor. »

    vmware-monitors-error.jpg

I can optimize my VM to automatic adjustment, only one of my two screens, but not both. I tried to uninstall and reinstall open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and restart. I tried to use /vmware-tools-distrib/vmware-install.pl's original vmware tools and who does not work either.

In my vmware.log, I get these two lines that occur when I get the above error.

When I activate "Accelerate 3D graphics" with the configuration described above, I am able to use both of my monitors. Why is this the case?

I think remember having to disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my Linux Mint 17 comments vm because it would crash randomly. I try to run this VM Linux Mint 18 with 3D acceleration and see if it crashes, but why is there a difference with spanning multiple monitors?

    Thank you.

I didn't experience this problem for a few weeks. I don't have a definitive answer to my original problem.

I installed Mate instead of cinnamon 3 to my MINT 18. Then, I created a new VM with Ubuntu Gnome 3 16.04 running as the OF. I did have problems with both approaches. I also tried using Firefox as my main browser instead of Chrome, as I read that Chrome can have problems of memory. It could be a combination of several of these changes that have allowed me to work without problems.

Knowing what I know now, I think the move away from cinnamon 3 is what seems to have fixed my problems. I can certainly say that you use Firefox consumes less memory, as I can monitor the monitor system under Ubuntu. Chrome would eventually eat all my system memory, that I could see. The extent of the why? I'm not sure at this point.

  • Windows 10 no internet comments on VMWare Workstation 10 and 11

It is the only listed network adapter.

Switching to NAT does not work as well.

I added vhv.allow = "TRUE" in the configuration of VMware and restarted host without success.

By using the web client, go to the settings screen of the processor for the external client to Windows 7. Check the box "Expose hardware support for virtualization to the guest operating system."  Guest must be turned off when you make this change.

  • 9 - ESXi 5.1 workstation reviews and 10 GbE NIC

OK, I have a beefy machine running Windows Server 2012 VMW Workstation 9. The machine has a dual 1 GB NIC and dual port 10GBe NIC

All the features of the CPU are enabled in the i7 CPU 3820, so everything is running 64-bit stuff.

I have 2 machines virtual esxi connected to the card of 1 GB automatically filled. The virtual NETWORK card is "el1000" are in a Cluster, 2 nodes of course vCenter.

Each esxi is connected to a target iSCSI with a 200 GB LUN.

In each of the 2 VM esxi, I have 1 Windows 2008 R2 VM, one in each VM esxi. The two Windows 2008 R2 VM are on the iSCSI LUN.

The Windows 2008 R2 VM 2 is connected to the each host esxi, the 1 GB vswitch vswitch.

Launch t Windows 2008 R2 VM fine. Performance is as expected because they are only connected iSCSI LUNS to the 1 GB card.

While the configuration works as expected.

Since it worked, I decided, we will use 10GBe NIC so I disassembled all the iSCSI LUN and removed the adpter iSCSI iSCSI target in both machines virtual esxi. I'm to a 'Raw' build if you want.

Because I don't have a DAC SFP connection + 10GBe switch, I put a looping SFP + and everything was now pings to 10GBe port.

Since my objective was the LUN to a 1 GB NIC/subnet, I redirected the LUN target to the subnet in the subnet/10GBe NIC.

Everything was to pings to the 10GBe. Great huh?

Next, I added a new vmnic6 in workstation 9 in "Virtual Network Editor" and "Bridged" vmnic6 to the 10GBe NIC, then I added a NETWORK card as a 'vmxnet3"to each VM esxi, then configured a vswitch in each VM esxi. No problem. I see a "FULL 10000" synch/connection. Cool.

Then I configured the iSCSI initiators in each VM esxi to connect to the 200 GB iSCSI LUN. The update occurs and the two machines virtual esxi see the LUN and it goes up.

At this point, all connections are there and the iSCSI is connected to 10 Gbps.

So I import the virtual machine residing in the iSCSI LUN, one in each VM esxi. They import very well.

So I turn on one of the Windows 2008 R2 VM that is hosted on the first esxi host and... GROUP!

    I have attached the screenshot.

    PSOD.jpg

Can we do anything out it?... lol

I can repeat it each time.

I'm laughing because I'm probably using WS incorrectly or something.

However, I have flash the 10GBE optical is QLogic/HP lates BIOS.

    Thank you

Do not use the for the VM ESXi vmxnet3 adapter.  The pilot of ESXi 5.1 for vmxnet3 as a 'physical' NETWORK card has some problems.  Use rather e1000.

Note that you can always use vmxnet3 for any nested VMs, with no problems.

  • Display with VMware Workstation 9 and Enterprise of Windows 8 comments bug

    Hello

I just installed VMware Workstation 9.

I created and installed a VM of Windows 8 Enterprise comments.

Everything works fine, except that when I go to the Windows 8 settings via bar charm (not via the desktop...), the display setting menu is occasionally screwed up!

This problem appeared just after I installed the VMware Tools in the guest OS. Before that, there was no display problem. Believe me, I've taken care of that by testing entirely.

My OS is Windows 7 Ultimate. My processor is an Intel Core i7 870 (4 cores) and I have 8 GB of memory. My graphics card is an AMD ATI 5850 with the latest drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

PS: This is not one type of bug in time. I can repeat this every time I have to create a virtual machine Windows 8 Enterprise comments. The problem was also there with VMware Workstation 8. My guess is that VMware tools are buggy, at least with certain type of graphics compared to Windows 8...

  • VMWare Workstation 8 and/or Windows XP Mode

Level of experience:: I am an expert on ESXi but know almost nothing on my computer.  I bought 6 Workstation and got a free upgrade to 6.5.  I created a virtual in Windows 2000 Server machine that our accounting is on and the accountant can join.  I just was clicking the shortcut VM since 2008 button to start the virtual machine.  I have heard of the unit, but do not completely understand.  I also know nothing about another XP mode that what I saw in a video online.  I know it is possible to install Workstation and Windows XP Mode, but the two cannot be active at the same time.

The situation:  I have a new computer Dell laptop, M6600 w/i7 and Windows 7 64 Pro.  My old laptop has XP Pro 32.  I hae a development environment that I use which is 32 bits, but also uses some 16-bit utilities.  They have newer versions of the software, but it is less productive, and the old software generates 32 and 64 bit apps more efficiently, with fewer bugs and run much faster than my Microsoft .NET languages.  So, I maintain about 3 million lines of code in this language.  I have to say to anyone that is trying to maintain current information in two places and never have what it takes with you, so I want to move everything to the new laptop.  I need to be able to P2V and bring in the servers from client to the prototype network changes prior to deployment.  My ESXi boxes are through the VPN, so I need to do on the spot, and my laptop is what I bring to clients.  The new laptop has a quad i7 with 32 GB of RAM, 1 1/4 TB of disk space, consisting of a Crucial M4 512 GB SSD and Seagate Momentus 750, and eSata 3 and 3 USB ports.  Virtual machines will fall under Windows servers, Unix servers, and sometimes ESXi with UNIX VMs, which I know will be slow under the virtualized ESXi.

Thoughts:  What first reading it sounded like XP Mode would be transparent and that the C drive of the XP Mode is drive C of the host.  I have since read this is not the case, and that it is just a virtual machine with its own virtual hard disk.  I learned that when you install an application in XP Mode, it appears on the menu Windows 7 64 start, and when you launch it, the application is running in a window on the Windows 7 Desktop, almost as if it were a native application in Windows 7.  It would be nice instead of dealing with another office.  Workstation, said it allows to import the virtual machine XP Mode, but can only run one copy at a time.  I thought that disappointment, that I would need to run more than one old app at a time, but then I thought about it, and I guess in XP mode, they are simply short several app out of the virtual machine even with XP Mode also.  If I could get the same behavior integrated 8 workstations that I can with the XP Mode, then I would reflect the OS disk to the new computer on a hot spare, install XP mode copy on the virtual machine, install the original disks, set up 8 Workstation, re-import the virtual hard drive in my computer and delete the virtual hard disk.  Then I wouldn't need to have two virtual environments that cannot play together.

    Issues related to the:
1 Workstation 8, can I have applications in the menu start of Windows 7 64 embarking inside a virtual machine, without showing the desktop of the guest operating system, like I can with Windows XP Mode?  If the answer is Yes, it runs automatically launch the virtual machine where the app?
    2. If the answer to the point 1 is Yes, it is Windows XP Mode have all the advantages for me who don't Workstation 8?

    Thanks TONS!

Workstation is not automatically add apps to the start menu of the host, but you can make them yourself.  When the virtual machine is in the mode of the unit, use the launch of the unit menu to navigate the start menu of the guest. Right click on the application shortcut and select 'Create shortcut on the desktop.'  You can also run the application, click its button on the taskbar, and then PIN to the taskbar.  You can then run the application later using these shortcuts, and workstation will start the virtual machine and Unity mode if necessary.

  • Workstation 8 and connection open - work any

When I upgraded my VMware Workstation 7.1 to 8, I can't use bridged connection at all in a VM, I don't have any internet connection then.

I always need to use NAT. Even when I installed Windows 8, I can still fill it, only NAT works.

7.1 before everything worked well. How can I solve it?

    Home - Win 7 64 bit SP1

    VM - Xp Sp3, Win 7 64 bit SP1, Win 8 64 bit

Exactly the same problem here! After the upgrade to Workstation 8 bridged don't work for me!

I solved the problem by choosing restore default in the virtual network Editor. He removed all the VMNet adapters that didn't exist the version 7.x and left have met only 3 VMNetAdapters. I never understood why he had so many adapters in the editor. In any case, it worked for me!

I hope you can help me quickly while im doing certificate MCITP training and Certification tests in 4 weeks and I neet training

Thanks a lot for your help.

Sorry if I post in the wrong Thread.

There are a few days ago a user had problems with 64-bit VM too well that VT has been activated. Perhaps the cause (and the resolution/workaround) are the same.

According to Re: comments 8 and 64-bit Workstation bits in the vmware.log indicate that VT - x is turned on.
