VMDirectPath / Passthrough, Revodrive

Hey guys,.

I wonder if the following scenario would work.

I have a Dell R710 with Perc 6 / i controller in there and the controller will be SAS RAID hard drives containing Vmware ESXI 4.1 and blah blah blah, I know that everything that works fine. These hard drives will be held of the guest OS.

My question is, if I install it on the server:

http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820227596

I'd be able to VMDirectPath in one of the BONES invited? I don't know if VMDirectPath requires some form of compatibility, or as long as the host supports any device can be passed through. The Revodrive would only serve as an extra disc/partition within the guest operating system to host a SQL database. Since this is a pretty busy database, I was watching in the higher IOPS and read/write / s providing the device.

The machine is a Dell R710, 2 x Xeon X 5670 CPU. PERC 6 / i Controller with SAS hard disks that will house vmware ESXi 4.1.

Thanks in advance!

I have a x 2 100 GB revodrive in a Dell R810, ESXi 4.1.0 348481 running. The revodrive is enabled for passthrough, I gave it to a Server 2008 R2 x 64 VM. I installed the x 64 Windows 7 driver, which works very well. However, the driver cannot see the drive and nothing appears in disk management. As I see it does not unfortunately.

  • Standard (non-express) - card PCI Passthrough/VMDirectPath broken in ESXi 5.5?

    Hello

I use VMDirectPath/PCI passthrough with 2 cards in an ESXi 5 host environment:

    -The first card is a standard-PCI (not express), a "AVM B1 ISDN-Controller.

-The second is a card PCIe, a "Renesas USB 3.0 controller"

The two cards passthrough'ed work correctly with ESXi 5.0 for a long time...

After an upgrade to ESXi 5.5, the relay of the card to the PCI standard is no longer in effect:

-Two cards are listed very well as passthrough devices ' ed in the vSphere client

-Two cards are configured with "msiEnabled = FALSE" in the virtual machine, no error occur at power to the top of the virtual machine

-Two cards are listed without errors in the Device Manager of Windows Server 2003 in the VM - no exclamation point appears

-L'USB 3.0 controller works fine, devices are recognized and are accessible

    - But, the driver for the PCI ISDN card indicates an error in the Event Viewer system log in the Windows virtual machine: "the card can not be found" and the map does not work

After re - install of the 'old' ESXi 5.0 and restore a backup of the configuration, all works fine again.

A ' cat vmware.log | grep-i CPPI"VM file log shows no relevant difference regarding PCI passthrough between ESXi 5.0 and 5.5.

No idea what changed in ESXi 5.5 compared to 5.0 in PCI card passthrough/VMDirectPath ESXi?

    Thank you

  • Cancellation of the configuration of a device Passthrough/VMDirectPath?

I configured a NETWORK Intel® 10GbE to test VMDirectPath, and now I want to cancel the configuration it.  However, I can't find anywhere to do this, and a search in the docs has only instructions to configure Passthrough.  Someone has an idea how to undo the configuration it?

Also, has anyone tried setting up relays on an Intel 10 Gigabit AF DA Dual Port Server Adapter (http://www.intel.com/Products/Server/Adapters/10-Gb-AF-DA-DualPort/10-Gb-AF-DA-DualPort-overview.htm)?  For some reason any when I enable passthrough on the device, I can use a port or the other, but not both.  When I try to assign the other port to another virtual computer, it fails to turn on indicating that the unit is in use.

    Brian.

    Brian,

You can cancel the configuration of the network card using the same screen that you used the configuration. Simply uncheck the device.

  • ESXi 4.1 - Dell Poweredge 2850 - tape backup - host does not support configuring passthrough

I'm trying to get a tape backup to work on my ESXi host, so I can save my win2003 VM.  I get this error under VMDirectPath, 'host does not support configuring passthrough ".  Under Configuration > storage adapters > I don't see my tape drive listed.  Also, I noticed that my SCSI controller card is NOT on the HCL (Adaptec 39160).  See.  This is probably why passthrough doesn't work.

So, I was thinking of buying this one (Adaptec 39320) because he seems to be on the list.  This will solve my problem or is this server too old for passthrough to work?

To use VMDirectpath on an Intel Server chipset used must support Intel VT - d (Directed i/o).   I don't think that's the case with the models of 2850, but if it was you would see an option in the BIOS to enable this.  It is a separate option of VT - x, which allows the host run the 64-bit clients.

  • 2 questions about VMDirectpath (card PCI, DMA)

Well, I managed to configure Passthrough to date, but I have met barriers again. Here's what I want to know how to solve.

    1. whenever we encounter a lot of trouble, we probably think that those are hardware problems. We use actually PCI which does not support virtualization, even if we could set up passthrough. I already read the document on VMDirectpath partner supported, and I found the HP servers, HBA, ESX support versions, CVEVA, EVA boards and operating systems invited. However, I coldln can't find information on the PCI card. Should we use special PCI card? If Yes, could you let me know what to use?

    2. as I mentioned above, we have configured Passthrough, and we did two Virtual Machines. When we have simulated VMDirectpath, i/o control was OK, but the DMA was not available. Remapping is activate, but they return a ridiculous address. Why are these things happening? What's wrong?

Advice or useful links will help me.

  • VMDirectpath configuration problems.

Well, I think I Passthrough (VMDirectpath) configuration problems. I use vSphere VMware ESX, 4.0.0.

I tried to configue passthrough, so I checked Configuration-Hardware-Advanced setting and I don't found "no device currently activated for passthrough.

I clicked on "configuration Passthrough.. ' and tick"Mark of Passthrough devices"then I found all USB devices are passthrough capable but not running in passthrough mode and PCI/PCI bridges are not able to passthrough.

After ignoring the warnig message ('vmnic0' assignment, which used by the virtual switch 'vSwitch0' for passthrough access can make the inaccessible host and can require a lot of effort to cancel.), I marked as the relay device, and of course I've known the significant effort to cancel. :$

I could not access the server, and the start was now available for some time.

What I want to really know is.

I'm looking for the correct devices for passthrough

and what was the Passthrough configuration problem.

Is this Client vs server problem? or materials (such as the version of the kernel or CPU specifications)?

Anyone knows the solution or has any advice, please help me.

    Thank you.

    Kwangwon Chae

Hi kwangwon, it seems like you just a physical network adapter on the host ESX (i) and is used by the vSwitch0 (at installation time is created inteface vswif0 here commonly called console port or management service), that's why you get this 'warning' when you try to set this for VMDirectpath pci device and also, that's why you lose your connection to your host because it can no longer be used by your esx server.

    Kind regards.

    Greetings Henk

Take a look at article 3 on this page - http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/VMDirectPath/fix_config_issues.php.  When you run a repair of ESXi installation it will not wipe away the VMFS data store so after him reconfigure the host that you just add computers virtual back to inventory.

  • ESXi Passthrough disorder

    Hello

So I tried activating the relay for an external USB device. Now, I can't UN-configure the passthrough devices.

    The steps I took were:

    1. Enable the USB ports in vSphere client under Configuration - & gt; Advanced settings, and then check each box USB

    2. Connected the USB device

    3. Open the machine virtual and added a USB controller

    4. Restarted the server ESXi

Rebot took 20-30 minutes and made the VM do not seem to see any USB device, so I decided to remove the configuration, are the steps that I took:

    1. Stop the virtual machine, I tried to add the trundle for decision-making

    2. Edited settings and removed the USB controller

    3. Reboot the machine virtual and checked the Device Manager

    4. Stop the virtual machine

    5. disabled USB ports in vSphere client under Configuration - & gt; Advanced settings and then unchecking each box USB

    6. Restarted the server ESXi

Passthrough devices are always checked that whenever I do it, and start time are always very slow (20-30 minutes). Any advice on the steps I can take to remove configured pull-out decision would be greatly appreciated.

  • "Host does not support configuring passthrough"--Dell PE 1950

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on how I can be able to configure this server to support a passthrough configuration.

Basically, what I'm going to implement is a server to allow a single customer to use serial port physical on this server, there is no need for other customers would use the serial port so it can be dedicated to this customer, but currently my Dell Power Edge 1950, who has the last patched ESXi 4.0 running on it displays "host does support not configuring passthrough".

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

This KB article is for ESX (i) 3.5, but you can see that ESX supports the use of a physical serial port in a VM and ESXi don't.   If you wish to stay with ESXi and must support a serial port, you can consider a series to the IP for this device.

  • SOLVED: Slow wireless internet passthrough after firmware update

If I first bought a Nighthawk in July 2014 and it was great for a while. Then in the notice happened a few months my streaming services are jumping and more than usual buffering (which was almost never with the Nighthawk).

I have a connection of 110Mbps (Comcast and through a SB6141 modem), but all of a sudden was only getting 10 Mbps (or less) passthrough on 5 G wireless band (at the beginning of the speed test would sometimes up to 50 Mbit/s, but on a few seconds would fall to nothing..)

Cable speeds were very good. Always 110Mbps +. Tried several different channels and factory reset the router, wireless speed was still slow. Connected to the Netgear website and submitted a support ticket within 2 hours they sent me with an RMA number and the next day a new unit has been FedEx would be for me. Support rep Tech says it's a problem of material known in some units... I was super impressed with the customer service, it was seriously a no replacement of hassles that took every 15 minutes of my time.

EXCEPT when I got the replacement router in the next few days, he had the SAME PROBLEM. As soon as the new router is on and I'm connected, I've upgraded to the latest version of the firmware, done a factory reset and down Speedtest. And I had the same problem: speed internet passthrough on all my wireless devices has been terrible. Less than 10 Mbps when I have a connection 110 + Mbps. (Wired speeds were great, it was not a problem of modem or provider).

Again contacted support and they asked me to download the latest firmware on laptop and upgrade the router manually, do a factory reset before and after the upgrade. They also told me to try to disable WMM (made no difference speed passthrough, but lower my laptop connection between 433Mbps to 54Mbps speed!).

I tried this... still slow passthough wireless speed.

The only thing that has changed since I first got a Nighthawk in July 2014 (and I've run speedtests then and had a speed 110 wireless + Mbit/s at the time), is that the firmware has updated several times... makes me think...

I downloaded the Netgear support the past 5 versions of the firmware for the Nighthawk. http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#sear...

I then manually downgraded the Nighthawk to each previous version (do a factory reset before and after each installation) and ran Speedtest every time. Once I have got down to the R7000 Version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 (released 12/02/14) and ran a Speedtest, the PROBLEM has BEEN RESOLVED. Speed wireless devices (laptop, HTC a M7 and iPad Air 2) were all back up to 110Mbps or more!

Hope this experience helps someone else... If your are affected by the passthrough slow internet speeds and it is not your connection speed (i.e. radio parasites) that is the question, there seems to be a serious problem with the latest latest versions of couple... Try downgrading to the R7000 firmware version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20

UPDATE: Yes, I actually tested the speed with several different devices (a laptop HP HTC a M7 and Nexus 9) each on 5G band, all compatible with the latest updates ac. I also used a few test sites of different speed (speedtest.net, comcast speedtest, cnet speed test), not had the same result all devices and hosts.

However, I actually got in touch with Netgear L2 support for the last month... beta test a few different versions of the firmware of the Nighthawk and even spend more than an hour on the phone one night with a nice guy who told me he was on an island in Southeast Asia, part of the Philippines... This is where Netgear technical support is to halfway between China where they build them and Taiwan where engineers are. After trying all tweak he could think for an hour and not get better speeds wireless, he finally dropped out and wished me a Merry Christmas lol. Not one of these beta firmware made a bit of difference, and I hate the hours that they made me screwing around with them!

    BUT today, they released vR7000 - V1.0.4.14_1.1.50 http://support.netgear.com/product/r7000

And to my surprise it actually worked! Not only my high speed wireless is returned (120 + Mbps)

    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/4078979293 (laptop)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131321713 (nexus 9)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131332778 (htc a m7)

but also my Seagate SRD0SD0 previously incompatible (3 TB) USB 3.0 external hard drive works now, too. What a bonus! The reason I bought the Nighthawk was to use as Server DLNA and the monster external HD I picked up 6 months ago only was on the long list of those incompatible with this capricious router.

But now everything works (at least for now).

P.S. Maybe it's in my head, but I swear to you that since the last firmware update when running speedtest now or file transfer (while heavy streaming) I can hear the router doing a greater slope electric buzzing/hissing noise is a little disconcerting... I'm not sure my brain fried by overclocked wifi will be worth a high speed in the end...: eek:

    I have an Intel DX79/Xeon 2, CPU 0GHa with a NVidia GTX680 graphics card.

I use an HDMI output directly to a Denon surround amplifier. Everything had been working well for a few years but recently I reinstalled Windows 8.1 and I found the passage of in surround AC3 stopped working with iTunes.  Movies of the source that I use have 5.1 channels and used to work.  Nothing the silence I fear when "Prefer AC3" is now selected.   The material has not changed - just a re-installation of Windows with the latest version of iTunes 8.1 and NVidia version 359.06.  The installation is completely vanilla flavored outside these two packages being installed.

So, I added PowerDVD and tested with a couple of BluRay discs.

PowerDVD works well with AC3 pass by - the problem seems to be limited to iTunes.  Stereo mode in iTunes works fine.  I tried the "Old video card" version iTunes without success and I tried without downgrading the video version card / audio driver for NVidia 344.75 (a version I know that used to work for about a year back) all to nothing does not).  I also tried version 12 iTunes and encountered exactly the same problem. I think that maybe iTunes and the driver NVidia do not play well together.  All the world is this problem?  I tried to contact Apple support, but it generates an error with a hexadecimal error code large enough and said "try again later...".
