VMFS sharing between clusters

Is it safe to use as part of a cluster of ESX3 VMFS volume and a bunch of ESX4 simultaneously?

http://communities.VMware.com/thread/277900

As mentioned in the above discussion that it seems you can use your configuration without problem as long as you present LUN to all hosts with the same LUN ID.

    Is it possible to share resources between clusters? Please see the below example elaberated my question... ?

    I configured vSphere environment. In vCenter, I configured 2 Clusters are both HA and DRS active.

    Scenario:

    -------------

    CLUSTER1: I have configured 100 GB of memory with muliple and runnig hosts several virtual machines... HA and DRS all active.

    And this group is using its resources less than 30%.

    Cluster2: Once again I set up 100 GB of memory with several hosts and that multiple running s... also HA and DRS active VM.

    And this group uses its resources to over 70%.

    -> If a host falls down in Clister1, my VM's will market in the another host so I have enough connectors to power the virtual computer...

    -> If one that host goes down in Cluster2, my VM should not market in the other host, because I do not have the free slots in any other host.

    Now my Question is: is it possible to share in the form of resources to Cluster2 Cluster1, while is no matter what host goes down, in Cluster2, virtual machine

    will try to market in the host Cluster1 (or), if I put any host Cluster2 in my VM maintenance mode will migrate to host Cluster1.

    = Is it Possible..? If Possible how to set that... ??? ========================

    Please someone help me on this...

    Thanks in advance...

    Unfortunately, out of the box there is no way to do it.

    The only possible solution would be to set up a kind of Setup ESXi without disk that starts from SAN - with a kind of script to determine what Image to use (too messy)

    Alternatively, if you can tolerate a few minutes between breaks down, you can monitor your ESX host externally and have your host ESX 'free', stored outside your clusters.

    in the evnet of a cluster lose an ESX host, it is quite easy to add an ESX host to a cluster using Powercli script.

    You must of course host external control (easy to do) - and the "spare wheel" wouldf ESX host need to have all Exchange and storage for the two cluster configured.

    Of course, if all hosts in both groups have the same Exchange / storage and processors etc. can do a big bunch?

  • Store of data sharing between 4 ESX and ESXi 5

    Hello

    I have a vSphere environment 4.1 with a vCenter and a cluster of 3 ESX 4.1 access to the content of data through fiberchanel (type scneario) warehouses.

    And now I need to install a new ESXi 5.x (cannot be a different version) in a separate environment, outside of the current vCenter, BUT to access the warehouses of data even as the cluster of vSphere 4 current.

    Anyone know if there should be no problem sharing between 4 ESX and ESXi 5 access to the same data storage?

    Thanks in advance

    As long as the FC zoning is configured properly, avoid all the problems.   ESXi 5 will be able to see the data created by ESX4 VMFS3 stores, it will not be able to create the same size of virtual machine he can on a 5 VMFS datastore.

  • Storage shared between cluster hosts

    Hello

    I have a number of hosts managed under a VC server clusters. I want to downgrade the ESX 3.5 cluster and spend all my virtual machines to my vSphere cluster. I intend to move the storage currently used by ESX 3.5 clusters as well.

    Is this OK (or supported) or even possible for me to do the following?

    1. attach the storage used by the cluster cluster vSphere ESX 3.5 (so it is folded in TWO clusters).

    2. the servers from ESX3.5 to vSphere vMotion cluster cluster.

    3. turn off the cluster of ESX 3.5.

    I guess it boils down to two questions.

    1. can you be shared between host cluster storage two?

    2. If you can, is it possible to vMotion between cluster hosts, assuming that all the vMotion compatibility checks are successful?

    If the above is not possible, I'm guessing that a V2V of VMS ESX 3.5 would be the way to go, and I have to find new storage for the cluster of vSphere.

    Thank you

    G

    Hello

    If you have a SAN vSphere-taking in charge, so there is no problem.

    According to the CRA on your 3.5/vSphere ESX CPU hosts, you might have problems with storage vmotion/vmotion. One way would be to enable CVS, however requiring all virtual machines to be powered off.

    But present the LUN 3.5 4.x guests and make a svmotion is not a problem if you have taken care of storage. (www.vmware.com/go/hcl).

    Then you can just vmotion (if you do not have CPU incompatibility) virtual machines to new hosts, or stop and move.

  • Share data warehouses between clustered hosts

    Hello, we had initially a cluster of ESX consisting of two guests who had shared access to different VMFS LUNS on an iSCSI SAN.

    Recently we bought an additional server, and additional storage and we have some problems to get the extra VMFS LUNs to be recognized by all hosts. The additional LUN is recognized by all hosts after a new analysis to Configuration-> storage adapters, but it seems that data warehouses can be added only for the storage of an individual host and not shared by the cluster?

    Adding the extra VMFS LUNS to a host works very well but they are not immediately recognized by the other guests and whenever you try to add data to them warehouses they insists on formatting the LUN and treating it essentially as a data store different.

    Since there is no problem sharing data between hosts warehouses in the original configuration, I wonder what setting it is necessary to enable sharing between all hosts in a cluster of data store? Thanks in advance!

    Probably, you have LUNS in different ways for each ESX Server (or the new ESX). If any information logical unit number (Lun ID, wwwn, etc.) is not the same for all ESX host tend to view this as a snapshot LUN.

    If you can't find what's going on, you can try a workaround (not too recommended but should work in your environment): go to the ESX configuration tab, click Advanced settings, and look for LVM. DisallowSnapshotLun option under LVM. Change it to 0, click OK and perform a new analysis. Repeat this for all of your guests.

    Please let us know if it works.

  • Cache objects VI shared between 32 and 64 bit?

    Transferred into the LAVA: http://lavag.org/topic/16349-vi-object-cache-shared-between-32-and-64-bit/page__pid__99898

    I am currently working on a major project that is to be deployed in 32 - bit and 64-bit flavors. This means that I must periodically switch between installed versions of LV to build.

    It * seems * that if I work in 32-bit BT, and then I close and re-open my project in 64-bit BT, that everything needs to recompile... even if I had only changed a few things since the last, I worked in 64-bit.

    It seems that while LV keeps a Cache of objects VI separate for each version of LV, that it does NOT keep a cache separate for 32-bit versions and 64-bit. Is this really the case?

    Fabric Hello,

    LabVIEW maintain separate caches for versions 32-bit and 64-bit of the same version, but in the same file. They are separate entries in the objFileDB. Because 32-bit and 64-bit are very different beasts, the project must be recompiled in order to adapt to the new platform every time that you open in a new environment. It is possible to separate the compiled source code code. Research in the other forum posts, this separation likely to cause a higher risk of corruption VI.

  • global variables shared between several targets of RT

    Hello

    I'm looking for some information about variables shared between RT communication network.

    Scenario: a PXI 'master' and several 'slave' PXIs running that screw RT. data is available in the form of a cluster of definied type on each slave PXIs (inside a non deterministic while loop). I guess I create global variables of network shared for each PXI slaves. A variable for each slave. I only write data in these variables in one place (above mentioned, while loops), on the PXIs slave. I need to read that data in a way with loss (I just need that value the most recent, as tags) from the master PXI.

    Question: can I simply use "network shared variable" settings by default? I mean, I do not enable the option RT FIFO (single element), because I think that for a cluster that is a no go in the case of RT (variable length)?

    What do you think? Or would you have better idea how to share data between slaves and masters RT targets (I do not have deterministic/losless transmissions, only these last values)?

    I think that the way to proceed is to use the shared Variable Aliasing/binding - they allow you to 'link' shared variables in any of the multiple targets. https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Bind-Alias-shared-variable-to-scan-engine-variable/td-p/3290043.

    You can also use shared variables of programming access to access running on another target: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvconcepts/usingdynvarapi/

    With regard to the other methods - you could always disseminate data via UDP multicast (or with a TCP/IP connection manager).

  • Using variables shared between the different versions of labview

    Hello

    I look at the use of variables shared between two different versions of LabVIEW. We have a 2 of the PXI system and a single PC. We are currently updating the code on the PXI system to 2014, but the PC still work 8.2.1. We now need a map of ARINC-429, which is executed only 2009 +, that is why we are to day. First tests show that shared variables do not communicate between the two. I think that the reason may be that the PXI running the version of variable motor 2014 shared, while the PC is running 8.2.1, but I don't know if it is precisely for this reason it does not work. Is there a way to communicate between two different versions of LabVIEW with shared Variables?

    Thank you!

    SOLUTION

    There are two key elements in the process of installing software that are essential for PXI to communicate with another version of LabVIEW: Legacy Server Support Variable and Variable Support of Legacy Protocol. The first, in charge of the Protocol, was automatically installed through the selection of the other ingredients (although I do not know which triggered its installation). The second has been nested in the Protocol, but was not selected automatically.

    The Protocol allows the PXI 2014 connect to shared variables hosted by devices 8.6 or an earlier versions, while the server allows before 2009 devices to communicate to shared variables hosted on PXI of 2014 (which was the initial problem)!

  • Problem to create the Internet connection sharing between Windows XP and Windows Vista.

    Original title: Internet connection sharing between Windows XP and Windows Vista.

    Hello

    Recently, I plugged a laptop running Windows XP to a desktop computer running Windows Vista using a standard Ethernet cable with the intention of use sharing of Internet connection. The notebook contains a wireless connection that I've routed to the office via the cable said.  While the initial phase of installation went well (I was too lazy to do it manually, so I just used the Wizard "Set up a home or small business network" Windows XP,) I had to turn off the host computer to install a program. When I tried to set up ICS again, I couldn't connect to the Internet by using ICS. After this failure, I tried to configure the properties of TC/IPv4 (IP, gateway by default, etc.) manually, but I still couldn't run.  I am able to access the shared host PC and client files. It seems to me that some service essential to the proper functioning of the ICS may be disabled in some way, but it's just speculation, as I have no evidence of such a service. Help would be most appreciated.

    Thank you

    FG-man

    I tried this before using a laptop to share internet with my 360.  problem is there was Nat on the router, and it is in contradiction with the ics.

    Anyway long story short I did some research on the Internet and discovered that if you're behind a router ICS will be confllict with her, as ICS also does routing. a much better option is to "bridge the conections ' on the laptop.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/hnw_bridge_install.mspx?mfr=true

    If you go this route, you need to set a static ip address for the office,

    Either that or if you want to continue using ICS put the laptop in the DMZ in the router may help, but it will be less secure.

    Hope that this helped good luck

  • vm.relocateVM_Task does not work when moving between clusters

    Hi all

    I have a Scriptable who suppose to migrate virtual machines (datastore and host) to another cluster. When I test it within the cluster, everything works perfectly. But when I'm trying to move a VM between clusters, I get:

    "specified incorrect setting '

    I can manually move the virtual machine via vSphere Web Client without problem.

    This is the code in the script task:

    //Get VM's number of VMDKs
    diskIDArray = new Array();
    var devices = vm.config.hardware.device;
    for (var j in devices) {
        if (devices[j] instanceof VcVirtualDisk)
      {
             diskIDArray.push(devices[j].key);
      System.log("VM Disk ID:" + devices[j].key);
         }
    }
    //Migrate
    var spec = new VcVirtualMachineRelocateSpec();
    spec.datastore = destDatastore;
    spec.host = destHost;
    spec.disk = new Array();
    for (var i=0;i< diskIDArray.length;i++)
      {
      var disk = new VcVirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator();
      disk.diskId = diskIDArray[i];
      disk.datastore = destDatastore;
      spec.disk[i] = disk;
      }
    //vcTask = System.getModule("dk.atea.extra").XvMotion(vm,destHost,destDatastore);
    vcTask = vm.relocateVM_Task(spec, VcVirtualMachineMovePriority.defaultPriority);  // VirtualMachine

    Any ideas?

    Dan.

    Hi Dan,.

    You must set the target resourcepool (spec.pool).

  • Can I create an internal network or isolated on VDS shared between hosts?

    We seek to deploy VDS on our site of recovery (for MRS). We have expanded network of level 2 so the primary site and recovery, guests can use the same IP addresses, but I don't know the best way to test the SRM. If I create a dvportgroup SRM, without a dvuplink, the dvportgroup may exist on all hosts that share the same configuration of VDS, but will be virtual machines connected to this dvportgroup be able to communicate on different hosts?

    Otherwise, what is a good way to achieve an isolated private network that can be shared between virtual machines that have the same IP address as production systems? A distinct community VLAN?

    They will not be able to communicate without a VLAN on the physical switch upstream.

    If you have licenses VCloud suite for POSSIBLE, you could create a VXLAN to communicate, but the easiest solution would be to create a VIRTUAL LAN.

  • Share the data store between clusters

    Hello

    I want to add a second group to our existing data center and want to use the same data store (iSCSI) as for the first group. Is it safe to share between clusters within the same vCenter/datastore? All hosts are running the same version of vSphere 5.1 and managed by vCenter device 5.1. If additional information is required, ask.

    Yes you can share between clusters. You will share it on hosts. It won't matter for storage if the hosts are in a different cluster or a cluster, as you do at the host level.

  • Code sharing between applets

    Hello

    I currently use the Eclipse and JCOP plugin for the development of the applet, and I'm looking for solutions share libraries custom between applets. I'm especially not for sharing between cmdlets interface, but rather how to organize the source code, so I can include common custom classes in different applets (for example generic ASN1 analysis library, library of signature etc.)

    Thank you for any comments.

    Your question was worded correctly and I actually answered your question, that I'm talking about shareable Interface in my answer, maybe I mean. I would like to make it clear.

    -To create the new class, but does not extend Applet, let he called Class Library.

    -Generate a jar, exp and Cap of this class library.

    Case example:

    -You can have 2 applet, for example Applet A & B.

    -Applet may use the API (method/common code) of the class library by importing the class library jar file.

    -Generate the Cape of Applet A file including exp file of the class library.

    -Applet B may use the API (method/common code) of the class library by importing the class library jar file.

    -Generate the file of the Applet B cap including exp class library file.

    By this scheme, the class library must be loaded first before you download and install the Applet A & B.

    Let me know if you still have more questions.

    Hello..

    I shared LUN for ESXi host and now I want to have a shared LUN for my VMs too how can I do?

    Logic unit number that I want to do shared is already shared between my esx hos, can now do the same LUNS shared between my VMs? Is this possible?

    Tring to use RDMS, but when I assign shared my LUN shared for ESX host so not able to assign the same to another virtual computer that is located on another host ESX ESX LUN to my VM, its goingfrom

    Any idea?

    Thank you

    Once you have assigned to a virtual machine the RDM will be disppear. However as a virtual mode, there is a hard pointer created in the data store. then go on host2 make sure he has access to the LUN, and then add the pointer hard on the virtual computer via the existing disk option.
