VMware Converter 4.0 and 5.0 downloads

I believe that in order to download the 5.5.3 or 6.0 VMware Converter. I have a 2003 SP1 server to convert, and if I read correctly the documentation, to support the most recent version is 4.0.

I could install 2003 SP2, which means I could use Converter 5.0, but I'm not either of these versions of converter for download. They were abducted by VMware? If so, suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

Thank you

To be a little more specific - SP1 is not officially supported, but the code that performs the conversion is the same regardless of the level of MS.

  • VMware Converter 4.0 and Virtual Server 2005 R2 VM

I downloaded the new VMware Converter (Version 4.0.0) because he had promised for the merger as a target.

I have the image of Sharepoint 2007 VIrtual demonstration of Microsoft Server which works OK using Virtual Server.

The converter seems to be a valid VMware image on the PC where I run the converter.

I copy the VMware HD image created on my external Mac (OS X 10.5.6 Fusion 2.0.1) and merge it opens but there are questions.

1 fusion think that the virtual machine is an 'other' OS rather than Microsoft Server 2003 Enterprise, which is what the VM from virtual server. Therefore, I can not install VMware tools on the virtual computer.

    2. If I change the type of operating system in the interface of Fusion Server 2003 Enterprise settings and that seems ok. Then, I am able to install tools in VMware Fusion.

    3. after the required reboot to complete the installation of the tools, the VM comes back BUT the mouse pointer is no longer visible. The virtual machine makes it unusable at this point.

I remember posting on this forum awhile at the time where I realized first that the virtual server instance could be opened with a PC version of the workstation and I remember reading while the mouse pointer is a problem.

So is there anything, I can do to get the Fusion tools installed AND have a working mouse pointer?

    Any help appreciated.

    Jim

Yes, it is removed from the control panel and you can try on virtual machine converted however, it may not work.  As before you convert you can do anyway that you presented.  I like to make a copy and use it as I want to do some other preprocessing and then I just remove it when I'm done leaving the original intact, but whatever way works for you is fine.

  • VMware Converter 4.3 and disc alignment

    Hello

I am interested in the use of VMware Converter for a future project of P2V, but the client has raised concerns on VMware Converter and disc alignment.  Basically, this means that the disk files are shifted to 63KO, so need for the virtual machine to read from 2 clusters of disk order to read 1 data segment.  This can slow the performance of the virtual machine.

I know that the migration of Platespin product can solve the problem, but its very expensive and I would go with the cheaper if possible option.

    http://www.Novell.com/DOCREP/2010/02/Curing_Disk_Misalignment_with_PlateSpin_Migrate_en.PDF

Does anyone know if the latest version of the converter solves the problems of alignment on the VMS?

    Thanks in advance

    Iain

No, VMware Conveter cannot solve the problems of alignment of the drive.   You have to watch the 3rd party.  If you are a customer of NetApp, you can watch MBRScan/Align, or maybe something like vOptimizer

  • VMWare converter not compatible message agent

I get the message "agent VMWare converter interface version is not compatible" and I found a solution in the knowledge base to uninstall VMware Converter agent.

I'm looking at the list of the programs installed on my ViCenter server and I see:

    Center of VMWare Converter

    Customer Center of VMWare Converter

Can someone tell me who this is?

    Thank you.

Have you tried a server to P2V? If Yes, check on the physical server is there are agent VMware Converter race / installed and remove them.

After removing agents from the server start a new use of VMware Converter.

    Welcome to the community,

According to the Matrices of the interoperability of products VMware Converter 5.5 supports ESXi 4.0 and versions later, you shouldn't have issues related to the ESXi version you are using.

Support for the camera has been added in the latest version of Lightroom, version 5.7.1. After you download Camera Raw 8.7.1 will have no effect on Lightroom because Lightroom does not use plug in Camera Raw. You must ensure that you have updated Lightroom to the latest version in order to have support for this camera.

  • VMware Converter, XP and SCSI driver - in addition, deployment

    Hi all

I created a virtual XP of Windows machine of a physical machine with VMware Converter. But now I'm invited with an error message when you start the virtual machine, stating that I have not a SCSI driver that I need. I did some research on Google about this topic and tried a few things, but have so far is not solved this problem. Any ideas/tips?

Also, I'm about to deploy this virtual machine through the Casper Suite. There was a white paper by JAMF on the deployment of version 2 of Fusion, but I did not do any concrete documentation with 4. If the resources or experience you have would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

Another option to remove all the 'messages say just Ok' is
    msg.noOK = 'TRUE '.

  • Download the VMware converter integrated software (plug-in to vCenter)?

Can someone help me with this? We have not bought the upgrade license vSphere 4.

Where can I download Vmware converter software integrated (plug-in to vCenter)? Is it comes with Vsphere 4 bundle? I couldn't find this as a bundle of Vsphere 4.0 evaluation.

    Thank you

the installation of plugin files will be located on the vCenter Server .iso file.  Inside the .iso file, there will be a file converter.    However, if you are not running vCenter 4 you maybe better off using the stand-alone version.

  • VMware Converter Standalone copy is the copy block level and sometimes at the level of files

    Hi team,

I use VMware converter standalone for P2V and V2V migrations. I noticed that some readers are cloned by the converter by block-level copying and some readers are colned by the file-level copy. Anyone can unmask me why is it so? Block level and file level methodology is decided by the converter on what basis? is the size of the size\sector disc or disc type? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Kind regards

    No limit of resizing.

To resize the D: you extend that will always use at the block level.

What do you do to E:?  Size reduction?

  • VMWare converter hangs on RHEL/CentOS 2 and 3 guests

I tried this on three different hosts and in each case the vmware converter starts ok, then eventually it simply crashes.  I logged on the source host to see what was going on and noticed that it crashes there is no vmware running process, whereas before I was able to see the vmware converter process, but also the tar of the process which has begun.

Any suggestions?  This product don't feel really as it is completely "cooked", at least on the side of things Linux.

I really don't understand why rsync would be a faster, unless you were synchronizing after an initial copy.

I don't know why you have to do all this hack later.  I fear systems that you are having to do this on the 2.4 kernels, which are basically not supported (read as "will not work"), except for explicitly RHEL 2.1, which we specially deal.

CentOS is generally not supported (read as "not tested, no guarantee it won't work at all, no promises of any assistance, good luck").

That is all listed in the release notes: http://www.vmware.com/support/converter/doc/releasenotes_conv401.html#guestos

But many people have had success with CentOS, and they have not needed to play with the initrd, grub, etc..  This is a very large part of the value provided by the Linux P2V functionality, so have to do it yourself sucks.  Can you give me the versions accurate that you are having to do with?

Honestly, if you do all that cold converter Clone CD (available as part of the converter company releases) might be a better approach because it allows to copy disks completely, you will lose any LVM and won't have problems with 'magic' confusion of tar files. But for the record, the cold Clone CD does not support provisioning.

  • Software VMware 5.8 ACS and Base license

    Hello

So, I bought ACS 5.8 VMware software and basic license recently. When the software arrived, I was surprised to find 3 discs (one was for one installation of 5.7, the other an upgrade to 5.8% and a disc of license). When I created a virtual machine and went to download the .iso image file I found that this software came with a .img image instead. My question is why Cisco would send me and old drive that I need to upgrade rather than send the downloadable version on their site? Now a task for five minutes only transformed into who know how long. Should I just get a third party software to convert the .img to a .iso to load in a virtual machine or should I contact Cisco and ask what gives? I'm just disappointed by the fact Cisco would send former software and wait for a customer to upgrade to 5.8.

You just download the iso of 5.8 ("ACS_v5.8.0.32.iso") directly from the download site and deploy your virtual machine using that. Then update the current level of Patch (Patch 5 at the moment). Both are available for download to users entitled to here:

    https://software.Cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=286286338&flowid=...

Delivered support has a lot do with the logistics and distribution channel and not much to deliver the most common output directly to the end user.

I don't know that I've never deployed media, I received in the package, since I started working with Cisco equipment over 20 years ago.

  • VMWare converter - Windows NT

    Hello

Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I need to create an image of VM to a Windows NT computer.  I was hoping to use the Converter Standalone package, until I realized that it was not compatible with NT.  Then I read that an older version (3.0.2) of the converter work with NT, but was crushed to learn that he was no longer available for download.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Glen

glenikins wrote: I checked this and v4.0.1 does support Windows NT (SP6) but only for a machine virtual source, not to a conversion powered physical machine.  It's a physical Windows NT machine that I need to convert it to a virtual machine.  Do I have any options for this?

Yes, there are always options.  The manifest is for VMware converter - 3.0.3 - 89816.exe is no longer available for download on VMware, however, it can be downloaded from elsewhere.  Don't say that I recommend that, however, it is an option and if you choose that route then ensure that the SHA1 checksum: 29ed0cc664df0a7caba542ad1d3e18eb3aed4e96

Another option might be to use imaging software to create an image of the pHDD to a vHDD in a virtual machine and then see if the converter can handle the VM image to start correctly and install VMware Tools.

Then the other option is similar to the second option that after imaging P2V start the virtual machine with the appropriate ISO Image and manually inject the necessary Mass Storage Controller and keyboard driver and settings in the Windows registry to enable the virtual machine to start and then install VMware Tools.

  • Can not power on VM after restore acronis backup using VMWare Converter

I've restored a VM for VSPhere 5.1 using acronis backup VMWare Converter. The conversion completed successfully, but the virtual machine does not start and I get the following error message. Any guidance is appreciated

An error was received from the ESX host turning on VM Testdns.

Unable to start the virtual machine.

    Power DevicePowerOn module has failed.

Unable to create the virtual SCSI device for scsi0:0, ' / vmfs/volumes/deb7682b-d932a578/DNS Test/Testdns/Testdns.vmdk'

Could not open scsi0:0 disc: disc not supported or not valid type 7. Ensure that the disk has been imported.

Indeed IT loks like a problem with the used file format (twoGbMaxExtentSparse) hard which is no more supported with ESXi. Your options are either convert virtual disks using the command-line vmkfstools on the ESXi host (in this case, you must load the VMkernel multiextent module) or by downloading the hard files and convert them using vmware-vdiskmanager command-line utility. Another option is to download the virtual machine on a local system, and then use VMware Converter to convert to the ESXi host.

  • Difficulties of VMWare Converter

I just downloaded and installed the latest VMWare Converter app and I have a few problems.

The application is running on my local machine.  The source server is an old HP running RHEL 3, and the destination is a server ESXi 4.0.

After that I filled information in the form of the source server, I click on "View Source" or "Next"  Both lead the runs out of action with the message "Unable to linux machine live query.

The credentials are correct, as I am able to SSH to the server source with them.  There is no echo command in .bashrc, and iptables is disabled.

Apparently relevant errors in converter_gui_2.txt are:
