VMWare ESX 3.5 - Build number

Hello

As I discovered, the build number for ESX 3.5 Update 5 is "207095".

Currently, the "213532" version, but I've never installed update 5. Update 4 was installed and would invest it has been updated with Update Manager. So my question is...

VMWare View 4.0 should VMWare ESX 3.5 Update 3 or 4, so in principle, we have 'only' 4 update is installed, but the version number is higher and is in line with the update 5 or greater. So, what's my real condition now? Thanks for help.

Attached document will help you to upgrade the server ESX 3.5 U4 to 3.5 U 5

  • Minimum number of VMware ESX for a HA cluster

Can someone please detail the minimum number of hosts vsphere required for a HA cluster?

I'm planning an implementation of the VMware farm including a number of ESX hosts that will be split into two groups. The first group will include vsphere servers that are hosting virtual machines NOT required for DR via SRM. The second group will be VMware ESX and VMs protected by SRM.

With respect to the SRM cluster, the number of virtual machines is minimal (5-6 virtual machines) and can run on a host unique vsphere. The thin HA I will include 2 vpshere hosts in this cluster. My question is therefore if 2 VMware ESX is OK for a HA cluster because I'm not sure what should be the minimum number?

    Any guidance is appreciated.

  • VMware ESX Server 2.5.0 build-11548 - licenses can be centralized in vCenter 2.0.2?

VMware ESX Server, version 2.5.0 build-11548

    VC V. 2.0.2 Build 50618

My current mission is with some legacy equipment and versions.

When I add an esx host to vCenter (see versions above) - I don't get any options to add the 'module' of license to vCenter. The 3.0.2 host works well with a license from the local host and Add-ons vcenter. Version 2.5.0 host has a configured host license. I figured I could use a license for the host of the server and add vMotion, HA, DRS & as Add-ons of vCenter. Selecting the host 2.5 licenses tab is not activate 'configuration of the host' link or it lists license config below.

Also, if I should not just use vCenter 2.0.2 for esx 2.5.x guests... please chime in with the grounds.

Can the server vCenter 2.0.2 licenses treat the add-on (vMotion, HA, DRS) licenses for a range of esx 2.5.x with a local host (Server/SMP) license (s) OR even just centralized? It does for 3.0.2 without effort.

No - vmotion, HA and DRS is not possible with ESX 2.5 - even if it was possible to use the license server centralized with VC 2.0.x these features of VI - 3 can have be used with older versions of ESX.

If this is not the case, can I change esx 2.5.x to open ports or to start a service allowing the centralized license mgmt?

The only way to manage centrally ESX 2.5 license is with VC - 1, x -.

  • Update - old Build number of the host

    Hello

I tried to update two new hosts esxi (embedded) to the required version (381591), they are currently on version 348481. I used vSphere vcli on one and upgraded using vihostupdate.pl and on the other hand I tried to move the patch to a local depot and using esxupdate. The two seem to install properly and reported that the installation was a success and to restart, however, after rebooting the hosts, they have the old 348481 build number.

I tried to reinstall, but told me that the patch is already installed. Any ideas?

    Thank you!

Why do you have patches of ESX applied if you use ESX (i)?

    Try to remove:

    UG-201101223- ESX410- 2011 - 08 - 05 T 12: 23:22 3w-9xxx: driver scsi for VMware ESX
    UG-201101224- ESX410- 2011 - 08 - 05 T 12: 23:22 vxge: driver for VMware ESX

reboot a server and check the construction.

  • How do you know what was the latest patch installed on VMware ESX Server 3i, 3.5.0 207095

    Hello guys,.

I've been running an old server that was installed in a test system on workstation DELL - Optiplex GX620 (32 bit).

During installation, I had to confirgure the file: /usr/lib/vmware/installer/Core/TargetFilter.py to change the following line:

"interface returned. GetInterfaceType() == ScsiInterface.SCSI_IFACE_TYPE_IDE' as follows:

"interface returned. GetInterfaceType() == ScsiInterface.SCSI_IFACE_TYPE_ISCSI' this is it worked and I used it for 3 years now. However, right now, I was hoping to be updated with the latest patches and updates and I do not know if I just ESX or ESXi, or what was my last update, and what it takes then.

I used this command to get the following result:

    # vmware - v

    VMware ESX Server 3i 3.5.0 build-207095

... I think that the 3i says I have an ESXi 3.5.0 but build 207095 the buid even as ESXi 3.5.0 patch 5?

If this is not the case, how should I do to update? What is the KB # I should download?

I can manage using vSphere Client 5.5 and I can't SSH using PuTTY.

Note: When I run... "# esxupdate - bundle = ESXe350-201302401-I - SG.zip updated ' of in the folder where his property in the data store, nothing happens... just a new line scrolls.

    Also...

  • Updating ESX 4.0 build 208167 4.1 last. We need to get a new license for this?

    Hello, guys.

We have a few hosts running ESX 4.0 build 208167.

He is former generation and it has a large number of vulnerabilities.

I can't find if we do something with our existing licenses if we upgrade to 4.1 last? ESX will work fine with the old license after that upgrade or we will need to obtain a new license of support?

    Thank you in advance.

vSphere license keys are provided for major releases, so there shouldn't be the need of another license key.

  • Data growing in vmware esx server disk 3

Hi, I have been asked by a colleague If I can be useful to expand d: ------disc on an existing virtual windows server 2003.

    They use:

VMware ESX Server 3i Version 3.5.0 Build 110271

VMware Infrastructure Client Version 2.5.0 build 119826

Is it possible to extend the disc in vSphere clienten, start by clicking on the edit \ disk and then expand the *. wmdk file of 25 GB to 40 GB? After this connection in the server and expand the disk using a few better disk expansion program.

    / T.

Yes, it should work even with the virtual machine. After having developed the virtual disk in the graphical interface, connect to the virtual machine Windows 2003 (or open the console or via the administrative RDP session) and rescan storage in disk management. Assuming that the data disk has only one partition or is the last partition on the disk and does not have the file exchange/swapfile on it, you may even be able to extend disk space by using the diskpart command-line utility.

  • Build number does not refresh

    Hello

I have a little problem with the updates running on a couple of ESXi 4.1 hosts.

We have 4 ESXi 4.1 Hosts, build some 348481, everything works as stand-alone servers, so not available vCenter or UpdateManager.

Because they all start from USB Sticks installed on the server, it appeared that they have enough space on the poles to perform updates.

However, after you set manually a volume zero (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1033696) updates can be installed via vSphere CLI.

So, I downloaded the latest patches of them installed via viohostupdate.pl b-i < file from update - > host server and VMWare.

Moments later, he said that the update has been successfully installed and the server must be rebootet for the updates to take effect.

After a reboot, it always show to the top of the old build number (348481), even if it be 582267 after the update.

If I try to rerun the update, it says that all updates are already installed, so obviously that it install the updates.

The problem is the same for all four ESXi hosts.

Any thoughts on why it still shows the old build number?

    Best regards

Please post the results of the query here, you probably installed the patches that are not applicable to the esxi4.1

The only thing to look at will be the VLANs that you got set up on the vSwitch. You have defined VLAN native example, the VLAN untagged on the switch to be 4094, any traffic sent on the aura tags trunk VLAN, which will be removed by the vSwitch.

In my setup, I have established groups of ports using VLANS and VLAN 2 10. Traffic to the virtual machines on these VLANs are .1Q marked by the physical switch, which is then stripped by the vSwitch.

Take a look at the section "VLAN in VMware Infrastructure" on page 7 the concepts of virtual networking André already mentioned, but also the other interesting reading material is http://www.vmware.com/pdf/esx3_vlan_wp.pdf.

Finally, for the side of the switch of things, look at the examples on Scott Lowe's blog at http://blog.scottlowe.org/2006/12/04/esx-server-nic-teaming-and-vlan-trunking/.
