VMWARE Server 2 and Red Hat 5.4 Interface Web ES crashes

I have been using VMWare Server 2.0.1 fine several months until I've restarted my server in a new kernel.

Although all modules start OK in the window of the terminal web interface seems to hang after have been up for a few seconds only - sometimes barely enough to open a session.

Any ideas?

My hardware is Dell R900 - 4 image intel CPU with 128 GB of ram

My OS is Red Hat Linux ES version 2.6.18 kernel - 128.2.1.el5

Thank you

I came across the same issue last week. This is the background I and fix that made me backup for now.

It seems that vmware provides their own libraries for some of what they need and that there may be a bad interaction between that and RHEL 5.4 libraries updated.

The FIX:

yum downgrade glibc glibc-common

Delete it / come back about 22 packages/dependencies. Then I restarted and re - represented vmware-config and functions of each thing. Note You must change your configuration of yum update so that it is not pushing the new glibc glibc-common until this problem gets solved official.

  • VMware, GFS2 and Red Hat Cluster Suite

    Hello

I want to implement Red Hat Cluster Suite with a shared file system GFS2 on hosts VMware running RHEL 5.7. I want the implementation to be fully supported by Red Hat and VMware.

This Red Hat https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-46375 document says that VMDK is not supported, but that RDM (in virtual or physical Compatibility Mode Compatibility Mode) are fully supported when the perimeter fence fence_vmware_soap is used.

That's why I intend to place GFS2 filesystem on one of the two types of disc RDM (and obviously have the Red Hat operating system on another drive). I'm a bit confused about the options well! My questions are:

    (1) the ROW should be added to an additional SCSI controller on the guest, or can it be on the same controller as local drive (OS)? for example I just have a SCSI controller for the guest, with both OS and GFS2 storage?

    (2) how is the option 'Compatibility Mode' RDM (virtual or physical) affected by the option of 'sharing of SCSI Bus"of the SCSI controller (no, virtual or physical)? It's just different ways of putting the same thing? If so, which one is priority?

    (3) is it possible to vMotion these prompts do not turn off?

Thanks a lot in anticipation, the experts!

No RDM do not need to be on their virtual SCSI controller

The RDM compatibility mode is chosen based on the cluster that you are proposing to run - if you plan to have have the cluster extend to ESXi hosts that you can select the physical compatibility. Similarly the shared SCSI Bus is also selected according to the configuration of cluster - physical if you plan to have a "cluster - everywhere-boxing ' or virtual, if you plan a"cluster-in-a-box"."

    (3) is it possible to vMotion these prompts do not turn off?

No you are not able to vMotion a virtual machine that is part of a Cluster of BONES.

  • I need help with this error on VMware Server 2

Hello world!  I'm new to using this site, but not to a large part by using VMware, VMware Server software. I have worked with it for 1.0.5 version. I have a Dell 2950 PowerEdge Server with Red Hat 5.2 and VMware Server 2. I installed 3 virtual machines and I made a backup of any of it. I copied this entire virtual machine to another computer (Dell Optiplex 755) with the same Red Hat 5.2 and VMware Server 2 and I added the virtual machine properly in the inventory of machines with VMWare Server 2 recognized the very fast machine. But when I press Play to start the virtual machine I got the error that appears on the image and I don't know what can be the problem.

    Can someone help me please?

    Thank you very much!

    William Anderson

It looks like may have copied the files when the virtual machine is not correctly - stop search *.lck files/folders in the destination folder and delete them. Also, make sure that the account running the VMware process has permissions to write to the files/folders.

    Hello

I use VMWare Server 2 and create 1 virtual server: WIndows Server 2003 and all went well. Until I realize that I don't have a LAN.

I checked on VMWare Infrastructure Web Access on that virtual server, and I see that under the network adapter 1 (bridged) a red cross marks on it. I tried to delete and add them in. It's the same thing.

  • VMware server does not recognize my cpu

    Hello.

I installed debian squeeze on an IBM x 3650 M2 wth a quad core xeon E5504

    I use 2.6.32 - 3-vserver-686-bigmem in kernel and if I cat/proc/cpuinfo I can see all 4 core.

VMware server is correctly installed and now 2 virtual machine is running, but I see in the web gui:

    Processors Intel Xeon E5504 processor @ 2.00GHz 1 CPU x 2 hearts

    any suggestions?

    Hello

Yes, your server and the cpu are supported for ESX (i) 3.5 U4 and superior.

In the VMWare compatibility guide, nothing is said about compatibility with vmware server 2.

If you check the compatible processors in the guide to vmware server 2 , you'll see vmware server just supports until the Intel Xeon Quad Core 5300 series, not the new series 5400 or 5400. That's why vmware server 2 recognizes your Quad Core E5504 as Dual Core. Because it does not support your CPU.

IMHO, if I were you, I'll try to use your server esxi 4.0 U1. It is a best product of vmware server virtualization and supports your CPU.

    Best wishes / Saludos.

  • Could not load the interface Web VMware Server 2

    Hello

It seems that there have been a number of users has a problem similar to mine. Unfortunately so far it seems not be an easy fix. A few weeks ago, I downloaded VMware Server 2.0.2 and installed on my Ubuntu 8.04 Server. Surprisingly, it worked very well and I set up a virtual machine via the web interface. It took 3 weeks later I started having problems. Or, when I tried to access the web interface through the browser page just came not upward or it came I have connected, but then was then put on the door.

Initially, I have done the following but doesn't seem to help.

    -Reboot the system

    -Restart all vmware services

    -Delete all cookies and cache.

Then I thought that this question had to do with the process of webaccess. It seems that the process was not because for a very short period of time, the connection appeared and I was able to connect. But after a short period of time, it displays an error and then the connection was unreachable again.

I checked the port 8308 below:

    netstat - LNP | grep: 8308

    TCP 0 0 0.0.0.0:8308 0.0.0.0: * LISTEN 5754/webAccess

Here is the response from audit ipv6:

    netstat - LNP | grep tcp6

    ping6-c1 localhost

    Unknown host

I disabled it by changing of ipv6 on off in the etc/modprobe.d/aliases.

My hosts file resembles the following:

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    127.0.1.1 web web.cinci.rr.com

The following lines are desirable for the hosts with IPv6 support

    : 1 localhost ip6 ip6-loopback

    FE00::0 ip6-localnet

    FF00::0 ip6-mcastprefix

    FF02::1 ip6-allnodes

    FF02::2 ip6-allrouters

    FF02::3 ip6-allhosts

I have attached the file proxy.log. I saw a few exceptions so don't know if this has to do with the problem.

Also, I've included the hostd.log (it's in a zip archive because there are a few files of newspapers spend). I have

Removal and resettlement seem to succeed. After a reboot and an attempt to access the interface web it STILL didn't work. I'm really at a loss right now. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • VMware Server 2.0 CIFS data store bug?

I posted this problem a few weeks ago, but I still can't solve, then I write it again with new information on the problem. I think it could be a bug in VMware Serever but I am not certain about it.

I use VMware server 2.0.2 (b203138) with a Windows 7 Ultimate x 86 as vmware server host and configuration of the NAS data store. The data store hosts all virtual machines, including the ones configuration files, and it's a shared folder located in a Windows Server 2008 Enterprise x 86 SP2. The network mode working group, not in mode active directory.

    Symptoms of the problem:

    • If you stop or restart the host server, when it is once again the CFS data store is unusable and VMS are inaccessible, even if all of them were arrested at the time of the restart.

    • The option to update the data store does not solve anything.

    • If the NAS data store is deleted and recreated from scratch, the machines are still not accessible. It is also necessary to remove and re-add the VMs.

    • If you only reboot the VMware services then you lose not the NAS data store or virtual machines.

    • If you only reboot the NAS then also you don't waste either the data store, or virtual machines, although they were in operation when you rebooted the NAS; the same happens if you stop communication network between the host server and the NAS.

    • A delay in starting services VMware does not solve anything.

    • I tried the start VMware services in manual mode, to be sure that there is full access to the NAS before starting the service, but VMware is still losing the NAS data store and virtual machines, this isn't a problem with permissions to access the network or network connectivity.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

This applies to all the BONES that I know. VMWare server 2.x just keeps the security attributes for authenticated access to CIFS shares underlying network based data stores you set.

I see some information that it's actually worked in server 1.x version, but I can only confirm.

I don't know if it is a bug or by design since this behavior has persisted through several versions 2.x, it can be design to users of reader for commercial versions.

    Good luck

  • Working with VMware Server 2 Terminal | Linux

    Hello guys.

I just downloaded the VMware Server 2 and I want to install it on my linux dedicated server using ssh because I do not have a GUI on my server. I don't know how things work here, but I guess it's a kind of forum. The mine is a question. I can install it like this?... and then create my virtual server using ssh, configuration there and that sort of thing? Is there a howto or documentation because I looked but found nothing so far. I would be very grateful if someone can give me a tip.

My server Debian Lenny 5. It is an Athlon 2 x 2.8 Ghz with 2 GB ram and got enough HDD.

VMware Server can be installed without problems on a terminal (also remote with SSH) text.

Management of virtual machine, you can use or VMware CLI or (easier) the web administration page.

See the documentation on the site of VMware Server 2.

  • Best Linux o/s to be used for VMWare Server 2

    Hi guys,.

What would be the best Linux o/s to be used for VMWare Server 2 and why?

Are there known traps or other questions that you may have experienced with some operating systems.

    Thanks for the comments.

I don't know about the 'best' that I only use openSUSE x 64 but I find it incredibly stable and reliable, especially when compared to a lot of Vista (out of production). Image single with 8 GB disks and non - RAID SATA with usually about 10 virtual machines running constantly. CentOS and Ubuntu seem to appear a lot here, but that could be wrong, since people in general do not post when things are working very well. Fedora seems to have arisen recently with more than its share of problems.

  • How to enlarge the screen of Windows Server 2003 on VMware Server 2?

    People,

Hello. Because Windows 7 is not compatible must be installed to PeopleSoft PIA, I need to install VMware Server 2, and then install Windows Server 2003, which is compatible with PIA, on the virtual machine.

But when I open Windows Server 2003 on the virtual machine, Win2K3 screen is very small, and its size is of about 1/4 of the screen of my computer screen. It is not comfortable to work for a long time.

People know how to enlarge the screen of Windows Server 2003 in a virtual machine VMware Server 2 so that its size covers all of my computer screen?

    Thanks in advance!

    Lucy

Did you already installed the VMWare tools in your guest OS in VMWare? In general, it helps a lot to be able to redefine a larger screen definition.

  • Linux Red Hat Server VMWare P2V

    Hello

I have worked to something almost the whole day, but cannot make it work and thought that I should ask for help now. In the subject line of the present States, I need to convert a server running RHEL 3 to a virtual machine on a host running VMWare Server 2.0, no interruption of service, preferably with a physical box, but I'll deal with a small amount if necessary.

I've seen a few comments and those showing how do, but all of them are intended to complete ESX or ESXi. I did the procedure on this page http://www.vladan.fr/how-to-p2v-linux-into-vmware-esx-server/, but when I get to the part of destination, I can't select my machine running in VMWare server. I tried different versions of the programs without result. Currently I am running:

VMWare Server 2.0.0 build 128374 on Windows XP. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

When you run converter for Server 2.x, the destination type must be 'VMware Workstation or other VMware Virtual Machine' and then, you select a folder, local or remote, where he will place the files that you can then add manually to the server creates 2.x once these files are copied to any data store you use on the host 2.x server once the conversion is complete.

  • Installation tools in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 64 - Bit vmware

    Hello

I just want to install vmware tools in a VM for 64-bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 a RPM.

I don't want to install the kernel and CCG files, sort of compilation was released, unless I absolutely have to do.

It is a small database server footprint. X - Window is not installed. Perl is installed.

Here is the list of packages to choose from.

    http://packages.VMware.com/tools/ESX/5.1/rhel6/x86_64/index.html

I read the Setup Guide for VMWare tools for OSSP documentation (specifically the table 2-7) and the package base looks like that's what I need, but I don't know which one to choose.

    Should which package I install?

    Thank you!

Linux is not windows.  Libraries are necessary because these tools and programs were designed to use libraries that were not installed with the operating system.  The instructions are VERY specific, they give you a step by step to install, if the base packages are needed you can simply guess or assume are not necessary.

FOLLOW the instructions, that is what they are there for, is not serious if YOU think they aren't necessary, they are required, if the instructions to install VMtools say that they are required.
