VMware tools on OpenSuse 11.2 under vSphere...

Anyone having difficulties is to install VMWare tools in a race of VM (x 64) opensuse 11.2 under vSphere?  It seems to install fine, then it shows that 'no managed' in the summary of the virtual machine and the status in vcenter.  Hmmm...

Part of the guide: Unmanaged VMware Tools

After installing a PSB of tools on a client, the vSphere client VMware reports the status of the VMware Tools as

unmanaged response to comments. Thus, this indicates that the PSO is installed and you should not attempt

  • VMware Tools stops running

    Hello

I have an ESXi 5.1 U1 installation with a guest Windows 8.1 vSphere and problems with VMware Tools on this client. VMware Tools is installed, and that client vSphere summary screen says that it is running and the current, but after a certain time (do not know exactly how long, but I guess 20 minutes) VMware Tools stops running, resulting in people not being able to use remote desktop to connect to the host. As soon as I open the console to the guest in vSphere Client and click on the login screen then VMware Tools begin to run again and people can use remote desktop.

I tried to reinstall the VMware Tools, but that had no effect. Any ideas?

    Thank you

    Richard.

This sounds like the windows 8.1 client goes in some form of hibernation... you have all power saving / hibernation configured?

    Hello.

When you try to install vmware tools on a freshly installed server win2008r2 supposted to browser CD virtual to propose setup.exe shows two linux files: vmwareto.gtz and manifesto.

What have you selected for your Version of guest OS in the virtual machine settings?  That could be the cause of this problem.

4.0 U1 introduces support for Windows Server 2008 R2, so it would be a good thing to upgrade if you can.

  • Question about VMware Tools when upgrading of vSphere 5.1 to 5.5

We are the vSphere upgrade 5.1 to 5.5. We have still a few virtual machines with obsolete tools VMware vSphere 4.  There problems upgrade to vSphere 5.5 and then upgrade VMware Tools on those virtual machines to the version 5.5?  Or should we upgrade VMware Tools version 5.1 first before doing the upgrade to vSphere 5.5? We need plan restarting downtime when upgrading to VMware Tools on those virtual machines and would rather not upgrade VMware Tools twice and planning two stops

There is no problem, as vSphere ESXi 5.5 supports the VM running older versions of VMware Tools.

  • Upgrade VMware tools and hardware on vSphere

    Hello

After a few questions, I seem to be a host to complete my move to vSphere, and I'm looking at the next steps - VMWare tools and update virtual machine hardware.

Now, it seems reasonable to me to upgrade to VMWare tools, but the material I'm undecided.

As I see it, VMware tools requires a reboot, I won't be able to do in working time, but that's just a reboot (sure of 60 odd servers, but still it is probably worth the time spent), but the material of vmware seems not critical for me? VMS seem to be running ok (Mix of Linux, Windows 2003 and Windows 2008) and I wonder if I'll get all the benefits of the upgrade of these? Is there something that puts me in danger if I let the computer virtual hardware version 4?

It is mainly a question I have organize downtime, and the upgrade seems not smooth at all (completely detach existing NIC? Loss of MAC address I linked to the servers of licenses etc.) so if there is no benefit at this point, I'll be ok to keep the version 4?

All advice appreciated, if I missed anything big I'd appreciate knowing what!

    Thank you!

    Hello.

You will miss out on some of the new features Virtual material, but if you're not having performance issues it is in somewhat of a moot point.  The biggest potential problem is leaving all these VMs v4 and runs the risk of another (or one that follows) version of vSphere perhaps not material no longer v4 support.  Hardware upgrades are inevitable, so it's really just a matter of do it now or do it later.  If you are comfortable delaying the inevitable, so there is no reason to upgrade to v7 now.

    Good luck!

  • vSphere VMware Tools

    Hello

I have to upgrade my host 3.5 4.0 through the host update utility.  Then, I upgraded vmware tools on a virtual machine (with success, according to the OK status in VI client).  When I tried to upgrade the virtual hardware, I got an error saying my vmware tools has not updated yet.  So I powered the VM on connected and checked the version of VMware Tools.  It reads: v2.0!  I have re-run the again manually, vmware tools upgrade restarted, and it was always the same.  I checked on one of my other virtual machines that have not been upgraded yet, and the Tools version is 3.5 as expected.  I wouldve thought he'd say v4.0 for vSphere.

Is this normal?  If not, how to fix this?  What version is your vmware tools show?

I think something is wrong since I also tried to add paravirtual scsi and nic to the virtual machine, and the pilots were not available anywhere.  The virtual machine also knows morbid slow network communications.

    Help!

    Hello

I have VMware ESXi 4.0 Version 208167, after installing the VMware tools, it shows Version 4.0

Check other virtual machines VMware Tools Version?

Tried to uninstall VMware's VM tools completely and after restart, install the new VMware tools?

  • How to enable shared folders on VMWare Tools under ESX4

On a windows server is running on a host ESX 4, VMWare Tools reports that the shared folders are currently disabled on the host.

    How enable and use it?

    Hello

(VMware Shared Folders) vmhgfs driver will not work with ESX or ESXi, it is only for the workstation, Fusion, a player of nd. I would put in a virtual firewall that denies all access and dev environment, until you're ready to share data.

You can then open a port on the firewall and have a system to capture these data via the port. The alternative is to use something like a Keyspan USB hub IP and write data on a USB key, and then physically move to the side of the "production" of the House.

In general I find instead of much easier virtual firewall... VMsafe even won't work here.

  • Install VMWare Tools running under VMWare Server 2 Server

I have converted a physical server using VMWare converter 4.

When I start VMWare server 2 using the vmdk file converted - I need to install VMWare tools on this server.

    How do I do that?

If you return to vCenter Converter, which you can do it from another machine that installed him as long as he has access to hard and you .vmx files product, there is an option to "configure the Machine' rather than 'Convert the Machine' and this should allow installation of the tools in the image. If the converted image actually starts on the server 2.0 then there is an option in the web interface (https://yourserver:8333) to install VMware Tools when the prompt is selected in the left pane.

  • Install VMWare Tools does not not under Red Hat RHEL 5.2?

With the help of VMware Workstation 6.5.2.156735, I installed RHEL 5.2 without going through the "Easy install" option

You have only installed the files.  Now you must configure tools.  Run the configuration script tools.  See the Setup Guide to guest for details operating system.

  • Upgrade VMware Tools post 5 upgrade

I have updated vCenter to 5 and have my first ESXi host also running 5. Most of the time, it was a pretty easy upgrade. Now, I have two other guests are still running 4.1 and all our virtual machines are run on these hosts. By doc upgrade, then next step is to upgrade VMware tools for each virtual computer. Almost all of our machines virtual under Windows 2 k 8 and 2 k 3.

The problem I have is in vSphere Client 5, when I try to upgrade the tools, it throws an error that the tools are already up to date. I don't know what is the current version, but I show version 8.3.2 build 257589 installed. If I try to vMotion one of these virtual machines to the ESXi 5 host, he erred in declaring the virtual material is incorrect.

The specific error is "the version of VMware Tools is already up to date" installed in the virtual machine

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Josh

The error has nothing to do with VMware tools. It is more a problem with the types of CPU of the ESXi host and cluster settings. What type/model of CPU you have in your hosts and have you enabled EVC on the cluster?

  • How check/change in windows 2008 R2 vmware tools

    Hey guys,.

I go through the documentation about our backup software, and it says to check and ensure THAT VSS is installed/activated in the installation of vmware tools, but when I go to add/remove programs and to seek to 'Edit' the installation I don't have this option. My only option is to uninstall vmware tools.

Is VSS automatically installed/activated now in vmware tools? We run vsphere 4.0.

    Thank you

    Kevin

I could be wrong, but I think that the driver VSS is enabled by default.  To verify, right-click on the VMguestInstall/Upgrade tools. When mount tools, you have an option to change, look under the drivers section

  • the alarm when VMWare Tools installed?

    Hi friends,

I want to set up an alarm to be triggered when the client install VMWare tools. Is it possible to do? I saw not all defined event to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is an event defined for the installation of the tools you mentioned, when you right-click on a VM under tension and make an installation of tools he calls - MountToolsInstaller that doesn't return any value back to listen to you. Most likely, it generates a task in which you can find probably the system and the trigger of broad, but nothing in real time at default of the vSphere API.
