the alarm when VMWare Tools installed?
Hi friends,
I want to set up an alarm to be triggered when the client install VMWare tools. Is it possible to do? I saw not all defined event to do this.
Thanks in advance.
I don't think there is an event defined for the installation of the tools you mentioned, when you right-click on a VM under tension and make an installation of tools he calls - MountToolsInstaller that doesn't return any value back to listen to you. Most likely, it generates a task in which you can find probably the system and the trigger of broad, but nothing in real time at default of the vSphere API.

When vmware tools can be installed on windows 8 with the display driver
Hello

So when will there be an upgrade for it?
Thanks in advance

It will be the point in time that he came out and not before! (VMware does not disclose this kind of information by their policies.)

Hello
I use a custom Linux VM on a Linux VMware Server host. That my Linux VM is on measurement, I don't want to install VMware tools on my virtual machine. My question is without VMware tools installed on my virtual machine, is it possible for my virtual machine to connect at gigabit speeds. My server host has a gigabit network connection.
Thank you

without vmware-tools, make sure you that you use the E1000 nic in the comments and not the obsolete AMD
Check with the vmx file and make sure that you have

I used to use VMware Workstation 10 and recently upgraded to VMware workstation 11. However, whenever I try to install a newer version of VMware tools, it will fail with message saying something like "VMware Tools can be installed in the Virtual Machine.
Yes, I am trying to install VMware Tools within the guest operating system, but I get this notification for all my virtual machines, I'm running.
I'm under 6 Virtual Machines simultaneously and they run on Windows 7 32 bit OS and configured with 4 GB of RAM, 1CPU, 100GB HD + 5 GB second HD for the swap file, NO printer, no sound card.
For each virtual machine, I changed about 50 + key of Windows registry and detect the values to hide from all the programs that they are running on the virtual machine.
I assume due to records, I changed, it confuses VM installer who it is not running on a Virtual Machine. Then I tried to change all these registers changed to send it back to the original value, yet I is always the same message.
I must be missing either some registry values or values that I restored is false. But I don't know which is the case.
I can simply delete all my Virtual Machines and start again with the new virtual machine, but I don't want to repeat this process whenever a newer version of the VM tools out. and installation of windows and search and replace registry values for each virtual computer is full of works.
So, here is my question. Anyone know how to force the update / install VM tools in my virtual machine?
P.S. I added under scripts in the file .vmx for each of the virtual machines. I don't think it would cause the problem but just in case I include it.

I came across a very strange question. I tried to create some custom vmware scripting tools, such as a new .bat file. This file contains a large number of orders, mostly as copy command "copy file://\\192.168.172.5\abc.exe c:\. ». I set this file as a custom script for Script event - power on guest operating system. Everything goes well with the bat file when I tested it. But after that I changed the State of power to power on, all other commands work fine except the copy commands in the bat file. Why? How can I make it work? Of course the problem of network. And that makes me very confused.
Hello
First copy the files on local disk was OK.
If this works for local disk, but not to a network drive, then hit you indeed a permissions issue any.
But if I run the script with tools VMware service script, the commands of copy (of the remote shared folder) failed while other controls worked well. I'm quite confused.
In fact, it is easily explained. The VMware tools service (Yes, it's a service) runs under the account Local system and by default, the local system account has no access to the network for security reasons. You can change the user of the service runs under and see if that solves your problem (very likely)
To do this, go to computer management (right-click icon desktop, select 'Manage') and open Services and Applications, service page, locate the VMware Tools service in the list. Select properties, log on to the page tabs and change account at your own Local System account. Restart the service and it should work.

What happened to the Repo of VMWare tools?
It worked literally 2 days ago and I've synced it with our internal repo. Now he's dead and I was wondering if someone at - he heard of this. It is quite convenient to have a place to enter the VMWare tools and get them installed at the same time, the operating system is installed.
http://packages.VMware.com/tools/ESX/5.5U2/rhel6/x86_64/index.html
They have changed something in their security settings I guess. I saw it for a few days.
You can't browse the server more, but when you know the direct path it still works.
If you delete the / index.html to your link, for example, it works:
Index of /45848/tools/esx/5.5u2/rhel6/x86_64

VMware tools install fails - Centos 6.2 on VMware Workstation 8
Some setting in context.
ArcSight make an OVF vmware assessment based on Centos 6.2. I am able to install VMware tools on the ESXi 5.1 platform supported but NOT on VMware Workstation version 8.0.6 build 1035888 which is apparently not supported but works fine on my laptop.
The big problem here is that the time on the host computer is massively adrift without VMware tools and make more from the point of the eval worthless SIEM.
I'm sure it's a problem of script, but is not certain. When configuring VMware tools that occurs the following

Stop virtual machines with or without VMware tools installed
So after a power failure major where I work has taken place where the batteries of the UPS only ran about 10 minutes and the emergency generator didn't kick in, I was put in charge of writing a script that starts to stop the virtual machines and servers in a given cluster. Now that I am relatively new to the environment here, so I don't know if all the virtual machines have the tools are installed. I want to cover all bases and the virtual machines that do not have the tools installed. My script done now is it initiates closing the comments on all the virtual machines and check every 10 seconds to 120 seconds for virtual machines go offline if after 120 seconds, there are even virtual machines online, it issues a shutdown command on all servers that have not stopped. Now, he'll catch all the virtual machines, but I don't want the machine have to wait 2 minutes before totality if it can be avoided (remember that this script will be executed when the data center goes to the power of the UPS for every watt account to keep critical systems online). the script throws an error when it cannot stop because no tool is installed, so I thought I could use a try/catch block to catch the error and send just a detroit of turning control of these VMs off. I tried to do, but without success.
Is it possible that I can either catch the error, or a stop all virtual machines that do not have the tools installed?
Attached is my code, maybe you can spot what can I do to stop the virtual machines without tools within the do / while loop when errors occur first.
Add-PSSnapin VMware.VimAutomation.Core$server = $args [0]$cluster = $args [1]SE connect-VIServer-Server $server$counter = 0{}If (Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq 'receiving'}) {}If ($counter - eq 0) {}Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"} | stop-VMGuest-confirm: $false}Write-Host "VMs are on waiting" (120-$counter)"seconds"$counter = $counter + 10Sleep 10}}While ($counter - 110)-or ((Get-VMHost |)) Get - VM | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"}) .count)-No 0If ($counter = 120) {}Write-Host "certain virtual machines did not not stop properly, tension now.Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"} | Stop-VM-confirm: $false}Write-Host "Putting servers into maintenance mode."Get-cluster-name $cluster | Get-vmhost | where {$_.state - eq 'connected'} | Game-VMHost-State "Maintenance".Sleep 10Write-Host "stop servers."Get-cluster-name $cluster | Get-vmhost | where {$_.state - eq 'Maintenance'} | Stop-VMHost-confirm: $falseDisconnect-VIServer-confirm: $falseTry something like this
$vm = Get-VM $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "Running"} | Shutdown-VMGuest -Confirm:$false $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "NotRunning"} | Stop-VM -Confirm:$false
Virtual machines running VMware tools will get a judgment of comments, while the virtual machines that do not have the VMware tools running, will get a poweroff.

Hi all
I recently installed vmware player 3.0.0.Build - 203739 and I now have a prompt of Win XP pro on my Win XP pro host.
I initially had problems to get vmware tools to download whenever I was invited to download, the player said to me that he could not see the server (even if I was verifiable online).
Today, when I walked into the virtual machine, I was prompted to download the tools and this time the download seems to start (at least, there is no error and the progress bar indicates the download worked).
Current state, it's inside my VM menu, it says now "Cancel vmware tools installation"without doubt, implying that the installation is still progressing. However, this message has been there for about six hours now.
Can someone tell me if this installation is still ongoing, waiting or what? I have to do something about that installation is complete?
Thanks for your help!

I met the same problem, but the tools got only downloaded and nothing more.
In the status bar of the prompt, you see the logo of VMWare, but with a yellow triangle indicating that an upgrade of VMWare tools is available.
If you see in the menu VM the words 'Cancel' and then do a "install VMWare tools". The changes are great that it works now. You just download VMWare Tools, but they must be installed by yourself.

VMWare Tools installed and not installed...
3.5.0u4 ESX3i
I created a Ubuntu VM. Then I added VMWare tools via the settings / installation/upgrade of VMware Tools
(in the "status, if reported panel installation has succeeded).
Yet, when I look in the summary of this Ubuntu VM tab, it says:
VMware Tools: not installed
Why is it (a power power off of the virtual machine does not change it)?

What you were doing just before the guest system the VMware Tools CD .iso image file. On the host Windows installation should start automatically. For Linux, you will need to mount the CD, copy the files from there to the directory and use the .tar and .rpm to install the tools.

Get the mac without VMware tools running address
I looked to see if there was a way to get the mac address of a virtual machine without VMware tools running. I know that you can see this information for vSphere gui when you change the material, so I think it would be accessible without VMware tools, but maybe not.
Does anyone know if/how this is possible?
Thank you
Michael
That's right, you have no need for VMware tools must be installed to retrieve the MAC address, there are other attributes such as host name comments for example which is only available when the tools are installed.
Take a look at this script to retrieve the MAC address of virtual machines: getAllVMMacs.pl

The purpose of VMware Tools in a Linux guest?
There are benefits to install VMware tools in a Linux without head/command line only VM? The only things I see it adding would share his IP address info. Are there features that I miss out on by installing do not?
Indeed, as the RPM and tar from the instructions in file ends with "Start X Windows", it seems that it is not designed for anything other than the GUI (for mouse tracking/display setting enhancements)?
With VMware tools, you can make things easier. For example, you can do 'clean shutdown' of the machine virtual of ESXi, or synchronize the time between ESXi and VM. I'm not sure but I think that vmware balooning pilot would need tools to work correctly.
But you can still live without vmware-tools and perform all of the above tasks (although not as easily). Personally, I don't use vmware-tools with linux-VM as modular kernel is not permitted in our society.

need to get the installation for vmware Tools packages
Hello
With the help of ESX 4. I need to get the installation packages for the vmware tools for each version of Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 (x 86 and x 64) and Windows Server 2003 (x 86 and x 64).
1. where can I get them?
2 support without monitoring/silent install? I need to add them to an existing deployment routine.
Thanks in advance!
All the tools on your ESX host .iso files can be found in
/vmimages/tools-isoimages/
There is a way to push tools, but part of the upgrade tools are NETWORK card drivers and you can lose some pings or experience of ping times raised the expectations of the customers.

MOB (managed object browser) does not display information in the absence of VMware tools
Hello world
I have a pretty important question. Please help me to resolve this because it's an urgent priority on my list.
This is in regards to the CROWD (managed object browser).
I'm not able to see the details of the operating system in the "Guest" of the VM MOB. An additional comment I have is that VMware tools are not installed on these virtual machines.
But this infromation can be seen from the VI client which is the management application for managing virtual machines, clusters etc.
Also, I am not been able to get the information via the api of the VI SDK that the CROWD uses to display the information in the text format.
Is this a limitation of the VI API sdk that they do not provide the prompt information related if the VMware tools are not prexsent or not installed?
Thank you
Tejas Saner
VMware tools must be installed in order to get accurate information on your guest OS. A virtual machine is NOT really knows what OS runs on it unless you install the VMware tool. This isn't in itself a limit VI SDK.
