VMWare VIX instant without memory

I use the VMware VIX utility to automate the snapshot of a virtual server on my vCenter.  When I manually take the snapshot of the VMWare Infrastructure GUI, I uncheck the option to include the memory of the virtual machine, and my snapshot takes a minute or two.  When I take a snapshot using the following command, it takes nearly 19 minutes.

C:\Program VMware VIX > vmrun t h CR https://10.0.0.186/SDK oshq\achenard u Pei * snapshot "[OSCVMESX-flight6] OSCVMD .
B01/OSCVMDB01.vmx' mySnapshot

My first thoughts were that it was including the memory of the virtual machine in the snapshot and I tested it using the GUI and leaving the check for the memory of the virtual machine and which took 19 minutes as well.  There is an argument that I can include to turn off the option to take a snapshot of the virtual machine?  Or y at - it another way I can run a snapshot from a remote machine that PowerShell?

You must use Visual Studio 2008 to compile the module Perl de VIX.

On Windows, if you do not have Visual Studio, for easy to use, I would recommend using VBScript. COM of VIX library version is installed and registered, so it can be used without any other step.

Dim lib

Dim job

Is it possible to use VMWare.Vim.dll without installed PowerCLI?

I developed a code using VMWare.Vim.dll in my system that has installed PowerCLI.

When I run the application in another machine, it is thrown exceptions.

Is required PowerCLI in the machine in which we execute the application?

  • Need an msi for VMware VIX 1.10.0.12331

    Hello

I upgraded a vCenter to 5.5 b but have left traces of the old version.

To clean it up and avoid compatibility problems, I tried to remove VMware VIX 1.10.0.12331, but it throws me an error because it cannot find the msi file

I'm stuck there because even try to upgrade to a new version requires to remove the old first.

I opened a case to Support VMware, but they do not find this particular version more because it is too old.

Someone there by chance the specific msi?

    Thank you

    Sylvain

OK, I managed to solve my problem

In case someone else has this problem, I have to extract it from the installer of VMware PowerCLI - 4.1.1 - 332441.exe

    To do this:

    -Download VMware PowerCLI - 4.1.1 - 332441.exe VMware

-launch of a machine where it didn't is not installed PowerCLI-> it will detect that VIX is not installed on the machine and will launch its installer

    -go to the directory folder

-Search for the newly created directory

-get the VMware VIX.msi from there

Then you can copy it to the problematic server, go to remove software and point to this file when asked.

  • VMWare Fusion has a memory leak

I believe that VMWare Fusion has a memory leak. Version 4 has done, makes version 5 and version 6 only. I think I narrowed down it to VMWare Fusion. When I Google the topic, I find little information about it, which confuses me, as I assume that others must have this problem. I talked to the support, I did some research and I've not found anything useful. If you have had this problem, or have figured out how to fix, please let me know.

    Hi Tedmichon,

I believe that you never mentioned your guest OS?

If you the disks are aligned then disable hard disk buffering might help reduce the memory idle problem you have.

If your disks are aligned not - as the default with comments older operating systems such as Windows XP - disable and then hard disk buffering probably will diminish your experience of the guest OS. Windows Vista and later have their default aligned drives and I think that the hard disk buffering is less a problem.

To change preference may affect you negatively in other words, it was not clarified yet, but you can turn off hard disk buffering. (Don't forget the current setting)

With your VM close, go to settings-> Advanced-> disk buffering, change to disabled.

FWIW a long time ago, I aligned the disks on my main Windows XP and turn off buffering of hard drive.

    hope this helps,

  • VMware Capacity Planning without using an Internet connection

    Hello

I tried run VMWare Capacity Planner without using an Internet connection. I have run Performance and utility collection of inventory and then I synced data. I was able to see the CSV files in the Outbox. I copied the folder on an interenet connection machine having when I click on synchronize data, it began to send the data to the dashboard. the data has been sent successfully, but when I am logged into the dashboard there is no data view. A message was displayed as not enough data.

Please let me know if I made a mistake in my approach.

    Thank you

can u check with the administrator of your organization, which has admin on dash rights and see if the data is correctly downloaded to the dashboard.

also can ensure you that you use the same credentials on the two boxes on the client side. simple reason being it might be issue with the property user and group data that are downloaded.

  • VMware product: Question on memory and resources

    Hello VMware community and others.

I have a question about VMware. I can't understand some things, so I need help.

    1. can I create virtual MEMORY (as my physical in my computer memory) hard disk and use it for the memory of the VM?

(I thing anything like a (vmdk) file that will simulate the physical memory in a certain proportion without my)

memory of the computer, only with a file on my hard drive)!

    Can I do it?

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the community - with VMware Workstation you are limited to the amount of memory installed on the host computer - by the documentation of the work - station

The total amount of memory you can assign to all virtual machines running on a single host machine is

limited only by the amount of RAM on the host machine - page 12 of http://www.vmware.com/pdf/ws80-using.pdf

With vSphere, you can overcommitt memory

  • VMware DR solution without Site Recovery

    HI team,

    Note:-WE do not MRS.

I have two site located at 1 KM on the other and is conencted Black 8 Gbps Fibre. I have plans to build a new center data with 4 esxi host and the VM 20 on primary host and 2 and 10 VM on the site of Dr. storage DELL Equallogic will accompany 10 Gbps conenctivity.

Application (virtual machine will be in courses running on the primary will be replicated to disaster recovery site using Equallogic replication Manager software.

Primary and DR will be like a configuration LAN same but actually having the physical difference 1 KM between them. It will be my DR about.

Design looks ok, but I have some questions related to the installation that are mentioned below.

    1. can I manage primary and DR esxi in the same group since I was a very good replication synchronization and a link dedicated between them. LUNs that are folded on main site will also show at the DR site.

    2. If I been general installation both primary and DR VMware vcenter but seen primary and DR two different cluster. Main when LUN relicated to Dr. storage how I can mount them in DR esxi server without putting them in shape since they will always have the availability of recent data in terms of VM.

I use the vm in the primary case fails that I can use them as a primary application.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's exactly how we do it. vCenter actually extends from the Dominican Republic to the site so if production fails, your vCenter infrastructure is already running in DR. Since it is a virtual machine, thus, you also have the possibility of a migration between sites if there is no scheduled maintenance.

It is also a good example where you can set certain rules of DRS to ensure that you always know where your vCenter is in the case of an unplanned outage. I would create a rule that imposes the first host to your vCenter cluster (using one should decide, not a must rule) so that you can simply point your client vSphere to this host and raise vCenter first of all, when you need to - this saves checking each host to know where he is.

  • Take instant without merge to a parent

With the help of 8 workstations, how can I take a snapshot and recover disk space without merge to the parent disk (i.e. I want to throw the changes). In particular, there is a tree of snapshots such as the following:

    baseOS

    + Characters - instantane1

    + - snap2

    + - snap3

    + (etc)

baseOS is the snapshot once the installed operating system, name is the snapshot after a database server is instaloled with no data user in there. Each snapshot is data of a specific version of the software and is kept for a week or two for comparison purposes. When a snapshot for the years enough and is no longer necessary, I would throw and recover disk space.

So, for example, I want to throw instantane1. I can't use "remove the snapshot" as this would be to merge the data in the current state of relationships and would then be visible when I create the snap4. I can't use "return to characters" because that remove not only instantane1 but also snap2 and snap 3.

It seems that if I delete instantane1 current state of the virtual machine is set to characters (CDT) in the tree above. If "goto snap2" that the State is ignored, and then if I can 'goto characters' changes of instantane1 disappeared. Is there a simpler way to throw the entire contents of a snapshot?

In this example, you could delete the snapshots highlighted Red

to do this, you must review the vmsd file.

Read you would know what vmdk file refers to what snapshot.
Example: Instant Oracle 11 G R2 Base can relate to diskname - 000123.vmdk

If you are sure that you must never go back to the first branch in this case that you can then remove diskname - 000123.vmdk with your file manager, Explorer or whatever you use.

WARNING: If you start to manually remove VMDK snapshotmanager display will become incompatible!

If possible, I'd avoid this manual intervention.

    Maybe after a feature request.
There is really no way to get rid of unused branches using the GUI

  • SQL of VMware servers and balloon memory

    Hello

Who wish to know the best practices of VMware and SQL with regard to the ball of the memory.

We have a few small SQL servers with 1CPU and 1 GB of ram, a single small database running. But we find ball memory is to come in the virtual machine of VMware and stay inflated for hours even days performance problems, causing for these virtual machines.

Should I reserve the memory that this virtual machine has, or should I disable the balloon on this prompt. Or maybe increase his "shares" to that of the other guests on the same host.

Any information on this topic would be useful, thank you in advance

This article shows you what to look for in esxtop to help solve the problem, http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2010/06/10/is-this-vm-actively-swapping-helping-heiner_hardt/.    At one point, you had a certain type of constraint to inflate.   I still think that the booking for SQL server is the way to go.

  • fatal error VMware: (mks) after increasing memory

    Hello

I'm using VMware workstation 6.5.3 build 185404.  Image has been created with 752MB RAM.

Host and guest OS are Windows XP.

Host has up to 4 GB, so I want to increase the memory of the image to 2 GB.

After increasing the memory to 2 GB, when I start working with Visual Studio 2008, the image freezes and I get the following error:

    Fatal error VMware Workstation: (mks)

13:59:53.070 Jan 05: mks | Exception 0xc0000005 (access violation) occurred

If I display the memory back to 752MB, then fine. This behavior is the same on two different machines.

    I don't have a support contract.

I have attached the log file.

    Any suggestion?

try commenting out these lines in your vmx for a test file:

    MemAllowAutoScaleDown = FALSE

    MemTrimRate = 30

    vmci0. Unrestricted = TRUE

    MKS. Enable3D = TRUE

    vmci0. Present = TRUE

  • Qosmio G50 - Windows does not shut down without memory stick inserted

I have a Qosmio G50 running Windows 7. The pc does not stop unless I have my USB stick inserted. Without the USB, I can tell the pc to stop. Without the inserted stick, the pc will say that it stops and remains on the screen closed for 10-15 minutes and then restart.

However, as soon as I put the USB into the USB port, the pc will stop within 2 seconds.

It is not easy to understand the situation and explain why this happens.
Qosmio G50 is not latest model cell phone, so I can't imagine that this strange question comes on the first day.

Something like this can be done with the factory settings. The configuration, preinstalled software, background running applications and processes on your Qosmio OS are not known to us is not easy to help you with this.
Somehow, I think that something running in the background blocks of the system. Unfortunately, I can't say what that would be.

    Check a bit.
By the way: have you noticed the behavior even if you try to use standby or hibernation mode?

Yes, it starts with the first host in the list once it is out of resources that it moves to the next--until he started the machines it can or all of the if you have chosen to ignore the constraints of resources-

  • VMware Workstation running without the GUI

I used to use VMware Server and configured to start some VM, I need on-site at startup. I went to the workstation to work with our ESX VM, so now I wonder if there is an easy way to get a similar behavior.

There is no a lot of information about this in the manual, I tried running ' / usr/bin/vmware - blah.vmx x ' when when I connect, but the graphical interface starts too. If I can remove the GUI and I have just the tray icon, I'd be a happy man.

Once my session X crashed and the VM kept working well, so I guess that there is a process that is actually running the virtual machine independent of the GUI somewhere can I drill to get the virtual machine started?

N ° workstation is designed for interactive virtual machines.  6.x and newer, the ability was added to maintain a virtual machine running in the background AFTER it was launched upward - however the GUI should be started to start/run prompt, AND user must stay connected (i.e. the virtual computer is running as a user process).  If you want to run virtual machines under services, using VMware Server.
