VMware workstation - PCI switch to OS to solve the lack of host riders invited

Hi all

I'm quite new to VMware applications.

To implement PCI passthrough / directly access hardware PCI by the host OS

is it possible to just use VMware Workstation? or VMware ESXi OS is necessary?

In this case:

-The machine physics processor and card motherboard BIOS supports virtualization.

-The host OS is Windows 7 64 bit.

-A PCI card is interrupted and got only Windows XP / Vista drivers (the two 32-bit).

-VMware Worstation 8.0 running in the host operating system.

-VM guest OS is Windows XP (32 bit).

Can I somehow configure direct access to the virtual machine PCI card / guest OS?

I think that would solve a lot of pilot uncompatibility between 32/64 bit OS versions;

It would be useful to have work directly in the VMware workstation.

Or is it now possible only with OS ESXi and is rather simple to use here?

Thank you very much for the support.

LD

VMware Workstation isn't compatible PCI Passthrough, you must run ESX or another product to make it work.

    I get this error message:

I read up on the subject and found that I have to re size a partition. Anyone know what it could be? I can't find anything that looks like it has something to do with VMware. Does anyone know what size and what file system is it?

    My OS:

    Thanks in advance

  • VMware Workstation is unable to open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum file size supported by the host file system.

I'm transitioning from Windows XP (64-bit) on a new computer with Windows 7 installed.  I undertook to VMWare Workstation 6 7.0.1 in the process.  The problem is with a very large RAID 5 volume on the new system.  It's a score of 5.45 TB (TPG and NTFS).

When I try to start a virtual machine on this volume, I get the message "VMware Workstation cannot open one of the virtual disks required by this virtual machine because it is larger than the maximum size of the files supported by the host file system.".  This is obviously not true.  If I copy the virtual machine to another drive on the system, it starts without a problem.

Anyone have any ideas on how to work around this problem?

try to add this line in the vmx file:

    diskLib.sparseMaxFileSizeCheck = "false".

    Maybe it helps.

    VMDK-type do you use?

monolithicSparse? -C' is the only part type more?

  • Need to know how to turn an old server Novell Netware 3.12 in a virtual machine on Vmware Workstation 5.5.3

I'm a complete newbie to this. I have an old network of Novell server a 3.12 server and a ms - dos workstation running Novell client software. The underlying operating system on butterfly os server and workstations working MS - Dos 5.0. The material is old and fails at some point.

I need to put everything in virtual machines. The ultimate goal is to run the Novell server in a vmware player on Windows Server 2003 and run the Novell Workstation in a vmware player running on a Windows XP workstation, so that the old, unreliable material can be discarded.

My VMware software is VMWare Workstation 5.5.3 build-34685. The operating system host, such as reported by VMWare Workstation, Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600, Service Pack 3 is.

I have a backup of the entire drive of the Novell server in a tar archive.

I've never done anything like this before, and I have no idea how to even start.

I'll need a lot of help.

    What I do first. ?

3.12 is a version really old - I'm not even sure that it will work?

    .

In any case - first try to create a 'new' installation of Netware 3.12 - if it works you can use as a reference.

    Try to set

    guestOS = "netware4."

  • USB foot pedal problem (Infinity IN-USB-2): recognized by Windows but does not work on VMware Workstation 10

When I connect an Infinity IN-USB-2 pedal for my guest Windows 7 Professional (on Ubuntu 14.04 and VMware Workstation 10.0.2), the pedal gets recognized by Windows and different applications, but by pressing the pedal itself has no effect.

I downloaded a USB foot pedal Tester (http://vec-infinity-in-usb-1-foot-pedal-tester.soft112.com/) on the client and he acknowledged that the device is connected, but when I pressed on any of the three pedals, the tester has not detected the presses.

I tried the pedal on a real Windows computer, and it worked fine.

When I connect the pedals, even with the guest in the foreground, VMware Workstation will appear a dialog box:

The specified device is claimed by another (usbhid) driver on the host operating system. The device can be used. To continue, the appliance will be first disconnected from its current driver. [Cancel] [OK]

When I click 'OK', we state above: Windows recognizes that the device is connected, but foot-presses are not detected. My other USB devices are not pop this dialog box. (Click Cancel maintains the device disconnected from the guest.) I don't know if the dialog box is significant or a red herring.

Here's what/var/log/syslog says when I connect the pedal with the Windows client in the foreground:

kernel: [281434.822751] usb 2 - 1.7: new low speed USB device number 28 using ehci-pci

And when I click on "OK" to the dialog, he said:

kernel: [281480.900448] usb 2 - 1.7: reset low speed USB device number 28 using ehci-pci

When I unplug the device, it is said:

    kernel: [281517.582472] usb 2 - 1.7: unplug USB, the device number 28

Thanks for the ideas on solving this problem.

Answering my own question: I spoke with a salesman who told this pedal does not work on virtual machines for the following reason:

These pedals are all just Universal USB controllers that require programs or applications to be able to see and recognize them for use. Because they are installed by the base of Windows and Generic USB devices drivers, they can not be seen my remote computers via USB sharing etc.

They recommended using a hotkey program to work around the problem. I have not tried this solution, but bought a different pedal that works out of the box with VM: a vP-1 vPedal. Lower build quality than infinity (in my opinion) but it works perfectly.

This is the idea of the key of the seller:

I have a solution that will allow you to use the pedal as expected if the remote program who need to use supports the use of shortcut keys. For example, these pedals are commonly used with NCH Software Express Scribe professional software. This software can use either a pedal, or you can assign the playback functions to access keys. In the scenario you are talking you re Express Scribe on the remote computer to use keyboard shortcuts, you then install Pedalware (http://www.altoedge.com/pedalware/index.html), a free Windows only the foot pedal utility made by NCH Software, you then use the Pedalware utility to assign the buttons on the pedal of a keyboard shortcut that coincides with those remote program.

  • 15 Ubuntu won't start in VMware workstation 12 after a recent update of Ubuntu

I'm quite new to the environment virtual system and linux. Someone could me help on my question below?

I have a virtual system installed using VMware workstation 12. It works fine, until the upgrade of Ubuntu this morning.

I have no idea what the update installed.

After the required reboot, Windows VMware has always stop a black page.

Before everything, there were some posts that I think they should be useful to target the issue here.

    He said:

Thank you very much for your help!

    I found a solution!

There is problem of ubuntu, new kernel is bad and it's a bug.

To start again just hold SHIFT while your machine virtual machine to the menu shows ubuntu boot.

Select Advanced, then choose more old kernel version and that's all.

After you restart your virtual machine it always start on black screen, you need to delete newes kernel version linux-headers - 4.2.0 - 30 to begin on the old version and problem SOLVED!

    remove the kernel:

    sudo apt-get remove linux-image-4.2.0-30-generic
    sudo update-grub2

    reboot.

  • VMware Workstation VMX unrecoverable ERROR when starting a VMachine

    Hi all

This is my first post and would really apreciate to help as I am facing a problem with VM Workstation (and with VMplayer)

I installed an evaluation of VMware Workstation 9 on my PC (see attached the System Configuration.png).

When you try to start a newly created VMachine I still get the same error you see in 2 attached images-screenshots 'fatal error VMX' and after that "cannot find a peer process valid to connect to" (see attachment VMware Player - Workstation and VMware Player - Workstation Error_02.png Error_01.png)

I don't really know what else to try, I tried to reinstall VM Workstation 9, I uninstalled VM Workstation 9 and tryied with VMPlayer 4 and 5, but I still get the same error.

As you can see in attachment System Configuration.png my motherboard is made with the NVidia GeForce 7100 Northbridge and SouthBridge NForce 630i2008.

    I have attached vmware.log and vmware-vmx - 3468.dmp

I also check with VM tools boot cd and the results where 'compatible with VMWARE = YES ". only RDTSCP was: No.

Can someone please? wouldn't be a problem of compatibility of equipment?

Thank you in advance, I really apreciate any help.

  • VMware Player (VMware Workstation?) Interfere with the connection of the browser

I installed VMware Player (or so I think) on Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.  Here's what the Properties tab - & gt; Details shows for "C:\Program VMware Player\vmplayer.exe:

Description of the file: VMware Player
    Type: Application
    File version: 6.5.4.11892
    Product name: VMware Workstation

    Size: 3.06 MB
    Updated: March 31, 2010 23:31
    Language: English (United States)

I looked for this in order to make the version of the-what? -VMware Player or VMware Workstation I, and in order to find the right users Guide or manual.

But this isn't my problem entirely.

My problem is that I was using my HTTP (browser) client and it has been noticed that I could not connect to certain websites (e.g., http://www.gnu.org/).  I can do that at home, through my wireless router (configured for IP) static on the local network.  Then I go to work where I use the ethernet connection (not getting any IP by DHCP!... configured for a static IP address on the WAN).  I call tech info, that says they can connect.  I think it's because I'm using OpenDNS instead of the name of University servers, and then I enter the "Network Sharing Center' and see 'several networks' and THREE Local (ethernet) connections.

After that think "WTF?" and think that 2 local connections and 3 are screwing things up, I disable all local connections and re-enable the connection with the hardware ethernet card.  Who has NOT solved the problem of my failed to connect to the web site, that is

    http://grub4dos.sourceforge.NET/

    The service

    http://GSiteCrawler.com/tools/server-status.aspx

reports the HTTP 200 response code very quickly.  I use this service to see if the info tech group workplace blocks a web site.

However, I want to learn more about virtual network maps created by the VMware Player (desktop?).  I ran the "vmnetcfg.exe" interface and in the Summary tab, see:

    Virtual network

    Subnet

    DHCP

    VMnet0 (bridged)

    255.255.255.255

    VMnet1 (host only)

    192.168.136.0

    Activated

    VMnet8 (NAT)

    192.168.219.0

    Activated

The guide I want to read should explain what are these local ethernet adapters and they can interfere with the operation of the host outside of the virtual machine.

    Thank you

    Welcome to the forums!

    The guide: http://pubs.vmware.com/ws7_ace26/ws_user/ws_net.html#989125

Where is your problem to browse occur? In comments or host?

VMnet0 is the virtual bridged network. He connected the virtual NETWORK adapter of your guests who are bridge transparently to your physical network device.

VMnet1 is the network invited only, a virtual, where the host and the guests are members of. You see a VMnet1 NIC on the host, because it's the virtual card that the host uses to connect to VMnet1.

VMnet8 is the NAT network. It connects to each stack TCP/IP Protocol on the host computer. Therefore the guest may use any communication device that uses TCP/IP. Th egust is hidden behind the NAT device. This means that all packets leaving the host, coming from the prompt appear to come from the host. VMnet8 virtual card is one that connects to the host on VMnet8 virtual network to enable external communication for the customer.

  • VMWare Workstation v.6.5.2 suppresses the display of controls in Microsoft Expression Blend

I tried to install Expression Blend on different OS in VMWare Workstation 6.5.2 v. and got the same result.

Any dialog box displays only the default button that has the focus.  The rest of the controls on a dialog box are invisible; Although they respond to the keyboard (Alt + key short) assuming that we can guess the short key of the invisible control.   After completing the installation of mixture by using the shortcut key controls of the dialogs in the installed software appears unless the mouse is hovered over them.

I had this problem with VMWare Workstation 6.5.2 Vista Ultimate, Windows XP Pro or Win 7RC running.  All of them display the same result for both Expression Blend v. 2 and 3.

No idea why?  Is there a display setting in VMWare that could cause orders are invisible until this that over?

I had the same problem, I solved it by uncheck "Accelerate 3D graphics (DirectX 9.0c)" and then properly installed Expression and display correctly.

Without more information, it is probably related to the known bug xkeymap.keycode in my computer at the moment.

  • Cannot start the virtual machine on VMware Workstation 12.1.0

The host machine is W2008R2, VM is the same. When im trying to start the current VM I see VMware screen, then "download files" screen loading, then VMware loading new screen and etc.

    Log file is attached below.

An update of the firmware could certainly help.  After you install the update of the firmware, it can be useful following the instructions from the motherboard to reset the firmware configuration by default (if its configuration is not too heavily customized) and then reconfigure with custom settings, you might need.  Check that you have disabled in your TXT firmware settings too... who's going to stop us from using the capabilities of VT - x from the host.  And, where there is doubt, the error message is not really pleasant on cyclical food... Some systems cannot put a change of configuration of VT - x into force without being truly disconnected from power for a while, so if in case of doubt, he put it off and remove the power outlet for a few seconds.

Your CPU is certainly capable of VT - x and support all the VT - x features required by VMware Workstation... Simply to force the system to allowing the use of VT - x and then it should start to work well.

1 you shouldn't have to download all the drivers for the vHDD, as LSI Logic drivers are included in Windows Server 2003.  In other words, you have not selected correct SCSI (LSI Logic) controller.

Now I get NTLDR is missing, restart the computer.

Make sure that the disk is disconnected.
